Brian Linehan, who passed away in 2004, left his entire estate to The Brian Linehan Charitable Foundation to provide training, work opportunities and promotion for young actors of exceptional talent. All of the income of his Foundation is donated to not-for-profit institutions for that purpose. In the decade since his death, recipients of the Foundation’s support have included extraordinary young actors affiliated with the Canadian Film Centre, The National Screen Institute of Canada, the Stratford Shakespearean Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival, which, since Brian's passing, has preserved and housed Brian's personal archive and tape library.

Emmy worthy performance. Goode is the best part of The Offer, and that’s really saying something because the whole series is phenomenal.
I don’t think so, there’s so many off putting voices put on in that show, ruddy, Evan’s and joe Colombo. Still I think Matthew Goode is the best performance out of the 3, but the voices are far too contrived, I don’t think Evan’s would of approved.
The Offer is abit campy, It has to be in a sense to reflect the time period.

I agree although he overdoes the lilting voice a bit. Being able to maintain the character during explosive rants is very impressive in my opinion.

As a cinephile, this man has always fascinated me with his unbridled authenticity. When answering the question whom would you want at a dinner party dead or alive, Bob Evans is in the top ten.
An amazing man. Knew him long ago in NYC, when he was on the cusp of leaving Evan-Picone for Hollywood . I was way young, but fascinated with this unbearably handsome man who played tennis on Sutton Place around the corner from my grandparents' brownstone. Looking back now, he was building his publicity machine quietly before he left. Being photographed with the "right" people in society columns. He was brilliant and creative in so many ways, high energy and driven, and just a unique person to know. Great sense of humor, with no problem laughing at himself. It was so long ago, but when I heard he died it still came as a shock - and I cried. End of an era, for sure. RIP Bobby.
This man was dedicated to his craft. His drive and determination helped to drive the arc of cinema.
Say what you want about Bob Evans. Egomaniac. Narcissist. Whatever. He was all of those things. But he was an incredibly intelligent articulate guy who absolutely loved cinema. You can't take that away from him. And he puts all of these punk 30 year old Harvard MBA studio heads in the dirt.
I'd like to see someone come on a talk show today and speak as openly and honestly as Robert Evans just did about Hollywood. They won't because of the image they try to protect, of the secrets they must hide, and the fear of failure. And we need more expert interviewers like Brain Linehan too, someone who asks the tough questions and doesn't kiss a star's ass for half an hour. RIP Robert Evans and Brian Linehan.

I came here to gauge Matthew Goode’s incredible performance in The Offer and became fascinated by Robert Evans. I love this guy!
Robert Evans is riveting to listen to. He's clear minded, focused, has excellent recall, forthright, enthusiastic and places a high importance on integrity. Having integrity and honesty in phony Hollywood can get him misjudged as a slick salesman out for big money. He wasn't, he was out to make good films, which he himself makes clear time and again. "Here's how this happened, it's not a con, here's why, I'm good at what I do, I got almost nothing for it". It's fascinating to watch.
In the end it was his vision which drove an empire and for it he receives nothing but a little recognition. Even though he COULD sell a bag of fries to a potato with his confidence and passion. Also, Brian seems to have a crush on this handsome man who reveres film for it's own sake. He sort of reminds me of Phillip Seymour Hoffman's character in 'Boogie Nights' in the presence of Dirk Diggler.

Listen to interviews with lots of people in the '70s, and it's the same. Hugh Hefner in the '70s, Stallone, John Lennon, and on and on. It was in the culture back then.

I had this phrase on my office wall with the movie poster for over ten years. I was mesmerized by the moxie and the talent the surpassed it by light years. I felt like he was my Paul Bunyan. Listening to Matthew Goode channel him has been a wild thing.
After seeing 2019 Oscars, I miss producers like Evans.

When you say things like, my country, my political party, my town, my school, etc., does it mean you are taking credit for their existence? A producer though, does play a part in the creation of something. A producer is no less important to a film project than the director, the financier, etc., each can refer to a movie as theirs. If Bob Evans corrals the elements which bring a project to fruition, he has every right to refer to it as his film.

I am grateful to hear Robert Evans version of what happened on The Godfather because Coppola’s version is completely different. Two sides to every story. Interesting. Don’t know who to believe.

@@Melinda8162 Many people make millions and go broke. I was just listening to a podcast with Peter Bogdanovich the director, who lost everything and made most of it back. I know people who've lost a fortune a few times and come back. You can always come back quickly if you're bankable and/or have successful friends. Evans did.

After watching The Offer the guy who played him was perfect!
it's brilliant this interview. I only knew Evans from interviews late in his life when he looked a caricature of an old time film studio boss, with the shades, the permanent-tan, bouffant hair and grand voice. Here he looks and sounds like a student (he looks 20 years younger than is) and you get his passion for film making and story telling.
What Redford did was so mean and uncalled for. I'm glad Evans said what he said.

just watching these interviews and I'm amazed at the casting and acting in the The Offer!
Evans' uncanny ability in the editing room helped shaped many movies prior to The Godfather, so it's no surprise he could independently cut a film, as his home was first-and-foremost a screening room (see Jack Nicholson) and then an office, and finally a bedroom (but of course). Mainly it was a sanctuary for him to experience a movie--usually while it was in post-production. So I believe him, because Francis said he shot the Sollozzo footage out of order to save Pacino from being fired, and doesn't credit Evans for the intervention only because Evans had fought with him about hiring Pacino in the first place.

The story about how Evans found Puzo's novel 'The Godfather' has been told in so many ways it's hard to know what the truth is. In one story Puzo shows up hat in hand at Evan's office and Paramount gave Puzo $15,000 for a 60 page unfinished book. In another story, also at Evan's office, he was offered $10,000 for the same 60 pages, and Puzo, an addictive gambler, owed a lot of money to various people, so he asked for $15,000 and Evans gave him $12,500. And now in this interview Evans says he gave Puzo $5000. Puzo states that he never met Evans until after the deal was made for his unfinished book, through his literary agent, for $12,500. This was an option (meaning the movie might or might not get made) and Puzo got another $80,000 when the movie started production, got more as a co-writer, and got tons more when the book became a massive hit.

Robert Evans' own life exemplifies his business thinking as a producer to emphasize quality of the film over bottom line. Although he was a native of New York City,he carefully corrected his thick NewYork accent to have a vanilla-bland accent,instead. He holds himself to a higher standard as only a perfectionist should who plays the part of the self directed role model of higher attainable values. He is self driven as a trail blazer to find his own way to faraway or odd places in the theater of the mind to get a different take on a social issue and then project it on to the mainstream viewing public obliquely from challenging sight lights to open or escalate awareness with awe inspiring open mouthed shock.Robert Evans oozes sexy self assuredness and a cool swagger of nonchalant masculine cool. He has a softness of humility just below his outer tough defensiveness. It seems that he would be the first one in the audience to boo himself before he corrects it to worthiness of spellbinding applause. He has sleuth's nose for finding the diamond in the rough with his repertoire of work,both personal and professional. He would be the first to admit to being human and not being perfect.That's what makes him likeable to me ,who also holds myself to a higher standard.
