I think the reason for this is that the online fashion girlies are always looking for and trying out new styles / trends, where as everyday people in real life are typically just living life without really trying to be on the cutting edge of fashion. By the time current online trends filter down to the mainstream, i'm sure the online fashion girlies will have moved on to something else.
I think also more "everyday" people are kind of scared to stand out so they won't adopt a trend until it's already popular whereas someone whose into fashion or even more so just style, would be exactly as you said the kind of person to experiment with new things and come up with the trends.
I am no fashion girly & I was all about high waisted pants/jeans especially since I have a mom pooch but I realized low rise baggy jeans just suit my body type better especially bc I have hip dips and luckily the longer hem tops are in so I can hide my loose belly 😂 also they’re WAY more comfortable than high waisted when you go out & eat
I’m a teen girl in socal I can say that the trends are more common here, tons of sambas, and EVERYTHING flaired or baggy, but overall trends online are way less seen in person
I was in fashion for like a decade and refuse to care about trends. I wear what looks good and makes sense in my life. Also I lived through y2k once, and that’s enough. I couldn’t deal with the trashy, ripped, shiny looks then and wasn’t about to do it as an adult. If you want to try trends to find your own style I think it’s great but living in trend cycles is silly and stressful. I look at them as inspiration and I think a lot of people do the same- it’s fun to try new things and experiment . Ultimately building your own sense of style is so much more satisfying than hopping on bandwagons!
I'm from Canada and I think the trends that tend to be the same online and irl are winter ones. For example everyone online and irl has Ugg boots and North Face puffer jackets. Where I am there's only a couple of neighbourhood where people dress the same as online, but for the rest of the city the guys follow "UK fashion" so nike techs, air force 1 and lacoste bags and the girls still like "baddie fashion" with a lot of makeup and skinny ripped jeans.
I’m from the uk and this couldn’t be closer to the truth 😭 alternative fashion isn’t the norm here at all, especially for guys. I wonder why. Girls however seem to have more room for expression; however lean more towards clean girl or baddie aesthetic
so interesting to hear what people wear in reality in new zealand, because here in Sweden some of these online trends are definitely trending in reality here. Bootcut jeans are worn by almost every girl in their teens or 20s, low rise especially it's so hard to get them second hand. I see quite a bit of long tops here too, but that might just be because crop tops don't rly suit our weather haha
People here are soo nice, no one would judge, but if u don’t want to dilute your style, you’ll definitely have to get used to looking overdressed at times😆💕
I am commenting for the algorithm because your stuff is so high quality and enjoyable! Like your other commenter said, I expected several hundred thousand subs as well! Also, subbed.
Thank for for commenting, I’m so glad u enjoyed the video🩷 But yes! I agree with you, we may buy a trendy product but don’t get ride of them as fast as social media does😆
i'm from the u.s. but i've been seeing a lot of the same irl stuff going on! online trends have really been messing with my expectations for what i think i'll see people wearing so it always suprises me.
i’m from london and it’s so funny seeing you say you only see these things online. i see ALL of these ‘online only’ trends you listed daily as a 18 yr old in school haha. everyone seems to be wearing low waisted jeans, sambas, big pendant jewellery, ruched tops irl!!
wow i'm from nz too and i think this analysis was really spot on, esp for akl! love how you're purely looking at it from an objective view. great watch
Im a ‘fashion girly’ I kind of like all the trends, basically anything trendy that the online girlies are wearing is most of the time gonna be archival fashion, and it’s really not about necessarily following all the trends but imagining if you were transported to that time, how would you dress? Because even in these eras we all have our own sense of style, sense of style stays the same no matter what era you’re in. That’s my personal opinion, and I participate in most trends because it’s nostalgic and I actually enjoyed those eras it’s like a personal reminder of all these things I forgot about! However I don’t always wear trendy stuff sometimes the things I wear aren’t trendy
I thought the same thing in 2004 and bought the same pair in 3 different colors a bit bigger so I could grow and still fit in those and then they stopped making them. 😢 14 yo me was devastated when I couldn't use them anymore.
2:47 girlie probably haven't suffered the embarresment of low rise pants during school year. but I have, and i'm never wearing them again 😭 you are so elegant, both in looks and in mannerism. i usually treat youtube videos like podcast but this video i watched properly
I will never be caught in low rise, but I was when I was younger and wasn't aware of trends and types of clothing and was just wearing what I bought in store. There's a perpetual feeling that my trousers are falling down when they're below my hipbone. 😒 It's a no. I also don't go to high though... There's such a thing as too much legs and no torso 😆
As a NZer I think this difference in online vs street style is because imo kiwis are really slow to change to a new trend especially when it’s kind of opposite from what is currently being worn. But once they do it becomes a uniform. Think the white croc, os sweater with bike shorts. Or gym tights and hoodies. Or pale denim wide leg Mum jeans. Every female in NZ wore skinnies every day of their life for ten years while this trend was in and it took ages for this trend to die. We seem to be more comfortable wearing very low key clothing that everyone else is wearing. The fashionistas are few and far between. Just my opinion lol.
I just got my first proper park of low-waisted jeans, not that you can really tell with the jumpers I wear over them lol. I got them because of cut and I have really liked them so far. Loving the video, just subscribed!
you've got such a good video quality, looks and the topic of the video, so that I expected you to have several hundred thousand subscribers. keep on going girl, you got it!!!!!!!!!!!!
One thing that's always bothered me is millenials telling me omg you dont know the horrors of low rise smh like i, a cusp gen z, didnt wear low/mid rise till like 2019. I'm kinda glad we are back to a lower rise because having the waistband squeeze my waist gave me so many sensory issues. Just as I realized I didnt like wearing pants BECAUSE they'd squeeze my legs and it felt uncomfortable. Hence as a size 23 I'd wear size 27 skinny jeans back in the day. I hope we as a society can keep moving towards what each person finds most comfortable. I am still in search for the perfect low/mid rise wide leg jeans tho.
As someone in college in Canada, some of these trends haven’t fully come here yet imo. I’m in arts so I do see some of my more expressive fashion forward friends mixing trends with thrifted pieces, but the majority of regular degular students come to school in Jean, sweats and a hoodie or a clean crop top or shirt like you said. There’s definitely a difference depending on where you’re from!
I don't think any country that is hooked up to the internet is behind any trends, even if it's on the other side of the world from us (I'm in Europe), it's probably more about wether you live in a big city or in the country. And even that contrast is not as big as it was because young people are all on social media. The other thing I thought while watching your video is that the trend cycles are so incredibly fast these days - it feels like crop tops only just came back in style and now they're supposed to be over again? It's too fast for me, lol. Maybe that's why there are a lot of trends existing simultaneously and I think that's kinda cool. I really enjoyed your video, I bet next time I check you have like 10 times the amount of subscribers!!
Nz always ends up kinda behind because of the season mismatch. Online is like “crop tops for spring!” or whatever and the locals are getting out their winter boots and coats.
I know this is trivial, but ive been wearing claw clips, looser jeans, and big jewelry (not like costume jewelry. Im from the southwest so that vibe). Before i was just that girl who wore whatever she wanted and didnt look dated. Just different. When these all blow over im going to look so dated. Which does bother me because im know as the fashionable one in my circles. I know this doesnt matter too, but some guys that tag along with my fiances friends have made fun of my makeup and clothes. Imagine the ammo theyll have when im out of style. It hurts my feelings. I still wear my stuff and just think "man just tell me you want to f*** me."
Y'all listen to me when I say CLEAN YOUR EARRINGS I hadn't cleaned mine ever and my ears started to get really irritated when I wore earrings, I put the earrings in warm water w soap in it, an hour later the water was orange tinted w little brown flakes floating in it🤢 I scrubbed off each individual earring (was so annoying cuz I've collected so many over the years, I also just realized I never cleaned earrings that I got at thrift stores🤮🤮🤮) anyways I wore one of the earrings today and my ears felt fine, clean your earrings!! Especially if you got them at a thrift store like ew why didn't I clean them before wearing them (lol I love to over share)
I definitely depends on location. In my southern undergrad, everyone just wore lululemon lol. Now I’m in grad school at a different uni (more city vibes) and the undergrad kids around me dress like Pinterest boards. My grad classmates and I are too stress to dress up cute at school tho lol
Omgg I live in a little city in Brazil and I learned how to wear what I want without caring about what people will say (especially older people) but it's just so harddd, even the outfits that you normally see in NZ are kinda weird for people here.
I remember when Old Navy sold ultra ultra low rise jeans the first time around 🤣😂 Mine were super dark denim and bootcut… and the inseam was like 4 inches. As a thicky short girl with a belly, I BEGGED my mom to get them for me and was honestly relieved that our school uniform shirt was tucked in because 1)I wasn’t allowed to wear a thong, and 2)I got tired of sucking in after lunch 😅

also people not being able to afford new clothes every time trends start changing

Exaclty. We cant forget that a lot of us dont have those popular influencer money.
I definitely agree with u there, in certain situations, low rise jeans are more comfortable😆
I’m a teen girl in socal I can say that the trends are more common here, tons of sambas, and EVERYTHING flaired or baggy, but overall trends online are way less seen in person
Fr, I see sambas EVERYWHERE

I agree! It depends where u are, but it's so cold in Canada I've had to sacrifice my fashionability for warmth 😭
I’m from the uk and this couldn’t be closer to the truth 😭 alternative fashion isn’t the norm here at all, especially for guys. I wonder why. Girls however seem to have more room for expression; however lean more towards clean girl or baddie aesthetic

Copenhageners are so on trend too
as someone who will be moving to NZ this year i’m terrified to look overdressed 😭 yall so chill there don’t wanna stand out 😭😭
People here are soo nice, no one would judge, but if u don’t want to dilute your style, you’ll definitely have to get used to looking overdressed at times😆💕
Omg so true!! As an NZ girly I definitely feel like it’s hard to venture out and try new styles since everyone is quite behind haha
So many people feel the same way, we should all just go for it and wear what we want💕
I am commenting for the algorithm because your stuff is so high quality and enjoyable! Like your other commenter said, I expected several hundred thousand subs as well! Also, subbed.

im a very short girl, so low rise jeans fit me perfectly and i love wearing crop tops because they look like normal shirts 😭🙏🏻
i’m from london and it’s so funny seeing you say you only see these things online. i see ALL of these ‘online only’ trends you listed daily as a 18 yr old in school haha. everyone seems to be wearing low waisted jeans, sambas, big pendant jewellery, ruched tops irl!!
London is one of the fashion capitals so makes sense😊💕!
wow i'm from nz too and i think this analysis was really spot on, esp for akl! love how you're purely looking at it from an objective view. great watch
Thank you! glad to hear I got some things right😊💕

I will never stop wearing cargo pants 😅
I thought the same thing in 2004 and bought the same pair in 3 different colors a bit bigger so I could grow and still fit in those and then they stopped making them. 😢 14 yo me was devastated when I couldn't use them anymore.
Cargo pants for life.😊
Same. I don't need to bring bags sometimes depending on how much I can fit into the pockets lol
2:47 girlie probably haven't suffered the embarresment of low rise pants during school year. but I have, and i'm never wearing them again 😭

From New Zealand too! I’m still seeing the cow print and swirl print trend from 2020 in my town💀
literally
very high quality video. you should have more subs for sure

😂thank you!🩷
That’s such an interesting and fun video !❤
Glad you liked it!!🥰
I like over the top hair accessories for winter… like the big scrunchies and bows are nice with a plain black turtleneck
you've got such a good video quality, looks and the topic of the video, so that I expected you to have several hundred thousand subscribers. keep on going girl, you got it!!!!!!!!!!!!
