Fantastic video! Rarely I feel that surprised. Although I like Ellie, after all the videos I watched in her channel, the only thing I got was that I'm moon, but now I finally know that I'm also a mountain and fire. But I appreciate little things from each style root. Thank you so much!
Aw thank you Lina, that means a lot! It sounds like you've found your roots and they sounds like a totally powerful, driven person who still wants to be feminine in their expression!
This was excellent, Mili. You made this so much easier to understand. I appreciate the time and effort you have put into this video. Thank you so much ❤
This video is so interesting!!! It’s nice to have a new way to think of the style roots! If I made scales based on the connections I made at first they’d be earth and flower (nature/connection), fire and mountain (formal/luxury), stone and mushroom (relaxed/casual), and sun and moon (expressive/bold) 😊 I’ve made a few other connections since but I’d never have put them on scales and yours were new to me so this was really fun! I see where Ellie is coming from because I think we have parts of who we are that are consistent over time and that’s what her system was designed to capture. But I also see where you’re coming from, many factors can make different, changing needs for style! I used to rely heavily on moon and sun because I felt unsafe and pressured to conform. Now that I’m out of that circumstance I don’t use either of them, and I didn’t before. I borrowed them but they aren’t my roots!
Thank you for sharing, and I totally agree that we could pair the roots differently and that would still work - it would be a different style need (perhaps to feel 'natural', 'elevated' and 'casual') And it's so interesting, I think sometimes we borrow roots because of the situation - and it's only when we're out of it that we find whether it was true for us or not. For me, I always wore blazers, but now I work from home... and I still love wearing blazers! That's how I knew mountain was a real root for me - I don't need to have structured items anymore but I do enjoy a bit of a structure!
@@MiliVelikova Yes! Mountain is a really cool style root to have! It sounds nice to have that confirmation 😊 Having to dress a certain way for any reason can make it so hard to know. It can make you feel good about things you wouldn’t wear otherwise and it can make you dislike something you’d otherwise love
Wow! This is such an insightful take on the style roots! I love your analytical approach to these systems. I clearly fit into 3 needs spectrums Relaxed, Feminine, and Different. My relaxed one leans mostly earthy, my feminine one is probably in the middle but slightly more flower and my different one is probably in the middle but slightly more sun. It's why despite claiming 🌱🌞🌸 as my 3, I use 🪨🔥🌙 quite a bit too. More 🔥🌙 than even 🪨 but that makes sense since I would place myself close to middle on those spectrums and less so on the relaxed one.

Thank you for this video, it’s brought me a lot of clarity!! I actually have both moon and sun roots, and was coming unstuck trying to fit that into this system. I have been told I have the wardrobe of a crazy person (🤣) - a lot of darkness, studs, chunky & tough elements but also quirky, bright, unusual, playful pieces. It’s very eclectic. I’m still not sure what my third root is, and honestly I think it changes day to day depending on mood/activity/weather, but this video has helped me identify what I definitely don’t vibe with ❤
@@rahrahcrafts hahaha love that, I think my wardrobe is similar - one of my fave bags and boots are black leather chained ones (you've seen them in the video)... Thank you for this video! I’ve really struggled with understanding this style system. I’m so deep into kibbe/Kitchener and Rita’s style keys, and I was struggling to understand where this fit in. I think the breakdown of sun and moon was really helpful. And I def think my proportion of which style root gets expressed is very different depending on the time of the year.
Aww I love Rita, she's amazing and the style keys are helpful! I am glad the sun / moon breakdown helped you - it helped me a lot when I finally figured it out! And I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that their roots / proportions of roots change with the weather!
Omg I just LOVE this concept of style needs! I loved this video and appreciate the time and effort you put into constructing all the outfits and thinking through the styles they embody. Thank you! I really liked your look in the Fire style root for going out - you look gorgeous! I am petite and have an ingenue and gamine essence, so I never feel comfortable with the Fire version of femininity, it feels like too much. The same goes for Moon, as I am light and bright, so wearing Moon feels always like a costume. I think that our appearance is also a guide towards the style roots. Based on my features (colors and silhouette), I feel my best in Mountain, Flower, Sun and Earth (Yes, I have four, and I cannot seem to eliminate one to make them three). If you were so inclined, I would love more videos where you'd recreate different style root combinations!
@@AnamariaDS thank you so much for watching Anamaria! I think you're absolutely right - our essences, body and colour type would make us look more harmonious in some style roots and less so in others, that's a great point. I'm a soft classic (based on my own typing and that of quite a few people) .. so it makes sense that I'm very "in the middle". I look pretty undone in anything stone or earth because they're the opposite of what looks good on a soft classic. And I always strive for balance! The fire one definitely looks fine, it suits my body but I'm definitely a bit self conscious with deep Vs 😅 I love that you've found yourself in the style roots that make a lot of sense for ingenue / petite - I think flower and sun have a lot of that, and the gamine wands a bit of mix of things - so mountain + earth can give you that! I'd definitely try doing more outfits for combinations :) maybe on shorts?
@@MiliVelikova Yes, shorts are perfect for these outfit combinations. And maybe a future video where you'd discuss your color season and how that plays into your style roots?
Hi Mili! Great video! I love Ellie‘s style roots system. I think it’s really helped me hone in on my style, but I absolutely agree with you about your roots changing with the weather. When I took her style roots quiz, I got mushroom and flower as my two dominant and mountain being my third in the fall and winter time, I absolutely agree with that but undoubtedly in the spring and summer months, I still have my mushroom and flower roots, but I think my mountain root fizzles away and I bring in more fire into my style ☺️
@@Scentual_secret thank you for your comment! So good to hear that I'm not the only one who's roots change - I think it makes perfect sense, and as someone who has mountain too - it's definitely so much easier to incorporate it into autumn winter! I definitely go more fire in the summer as well
You did a really good job analyzing Ellie-Jean’s system and explaining it in a different way! I think this way of looking at the style roots can be a valuable addition to the discourse, especially for those who struggle to identify their roots just by looking at pictures and prefer a more analytical/logical approach. Personally I was able to identify my first and second root super quickly after being introduced to the system, and then my third root after studying Ellie-Jean’s Pinterest boards. I like 🍄🪨🌱. And yes, I feel totally represented in those style needs: put-together (in a minimal way), and relaxed (both in a cool and free way). With my going-out looks I actually sometimes also like a bit of 🔥 or 🌘, but the other three roots are more important to me and I always prioritize them.
Thank you so much for watching and sharing your thoughts! That's amazing that you've been able to identify yours from Ellie's videos and boards! That's such a lovely combination - mushroom, stone and earth make for a minimal, carefree, relaxed and cool outfit! I'm glad you've confirmed that my analytical ideas give you the same result! And totally - I think going out is oftentimes when we want to feel a bit "extra" so a lot of people would borrow a bit of fire / sun / moon inspiration even if they don't use it day to day!
This is a revelation to me. I frequently wear moon outfits and sun outfits and couldn't understand how my personal style had such "opposites". But now I see they're on the same spectrum! Same with feminity! Day looks are: flower and sun Night looks are: moon and fire Always
Thank you for watching, I'm so glad this helped! And genuinely... I am very similar! Definitely more flower / sun leaning in the daytime, especially in the summer as well... and then a lot more moon / fire in the evenings or when it's festive season!
This is really interesting. The only thing that doesnt feel quite right to me is how you describe the moon style root. I am definitely drawn to moon styles and not much drawn to sun styles but I really don't want to look tough. Maybe a little bit dangerous, but not tough. Maybe its just because I dislike the strength conveyed by the mountain style root and I love the delicate feeling of the flower style root. I would just describe the feeling I'm trying to go for with moon more as strange or even a bit creepy rather than tough.
Totally appreciate that comment, and I probably a better word would be dark / strange - I think moon is the most complex root on its own, so it's great to read your feedback :)
Wow, I think you didn't much better job explaining it. Then she did it sometimes. When it's your own baby, it's hard to put the words together with your passion.. Since she's so passionate about it and it's her baby. I actually thought I was different style routes than I am. You did such a great job. I always knew I had sun but I definitely think, i'm mushroom for the classic element. And instead of thinking I'm flower. I'm somewhere in the middle the flower and whatever the other one was.
Glad it was helpful, and thank you for watching and sharing! I think you're right, sometimes when it's our own baby and concept, it's harder to explain it to people because you just 'get it'. I love putting some structure and happy that you found yours!
@@Mitra-sd7np oh amazing, thanks for watching! And which of the two sun outfits? The bright yellow or the neutral one? I kinda like them both 😂 What are your roots btw?
Top quality as usual! ❤ Your channel is the BEST. I think I’m a sunflower ☀️🌸 with a side of, maybe stone? I have a ton of minimalist, feminine pieces (all jewel tones), with modesty as a general rule and lots of pops of bright colour (yellow & orange) in my accessories
Aw thank you Danielle! If modesty is a big thing for you, I'd suggest mushroom might be a thing! To me the mushroom person doesn't like to be too exposed or sensual, and even though you might like feminine and even bright sun pieces, if the cut itself is more minimalist, simple, balanced, classic - I think that's mushroom!
Excellent breakdown and clear examples. We have similar style except I lean more ☀️, especially in spring & summer. Bold colors and patterns, classic silhouette with feminine details
Again, this is a very helpful video. I need a huge number of examples to understand things like that. I bought Ellie's book after watching your video, and I'm curious about what I can learn from it. Thank you ❤ Although I have to admit, I still struggle to find my roots. I think I'm more mountain and feminine (probably more fire than flower) und moon (but as my 3 root, more in accessories or stuff like that). And here is my problem. I also think Earth could be one of my roots. I like cosy, feminine, and autumn colour outfits but with a little edge ... I will get there, I know, but it's difficult 😅
@@tins369 thank you so much for watching and commenting! It's definitely a process - I think celebrate the things you already know. And experiment with the ones you consider possible - it will eventually click into place! It's taken me a good few years and I still sometimes find things confusing - we're all fluid and ever changing, so find what works for you now and let it be okay if they change in the future ❤️
Fantastic video! 😊 I always knew I was 🪨🌸, but I’ve gone back and forth between ☀️ and 🌙. I like the artsy part of sun and the edgy part of moon, so maybe I’m like dawn or something?
Thank you for watching! And haha some people have suggested it should be called eclipse, I also like dawn! Definitely something in the middle - I'm definitely attracted to the same two things - creatively edgy!
Anyways i'm in the middle of flower and moon. Then mushroom for my classic element and. Sun for my playful colorful element. I personally think putting all the things together like finding out your colors finding out your body. Type in what flatters you. Then finding a couple of different style systems helps figure out the whole package adding your three words in as well. Three words is very similar to ellie's system.
Your explanations were really interesting. One of the things that I found helpful was the idea of having a styling need to fill. I'd say my style roots are natural stone, earth, and moon/sun (I care about comfort.I care about finding ways to honor my artistic side, and lean towards darker clothes and motifs.) I don't always have the ability to dress the way I want. For example: my native style needs don't really fall into mushroom or mountain (I don't care) but sometimes I have to cosplay as an office worker (on the daily) -- and when I have to do that, I tap into the Mountain side of things vs the mushroom 🍄. (Strong, more structured - but not too structured. Always comfortable.) It's a very rare day when I am aiming at the feminine. I feel off if I look too sexy or too much like a fairy princess/little girl. It's just not a place where I feel myself. (Though I'm not comfortable in a too masculine place, either.) Great way to work with the system.
Thank you so much for watching and sharing! I think it's often that people who don't necessarily want to look 'polished / put together' have to do that because of their work. It can definitely be tricky to incorporate your roots into the typical 'office worker' aesthetic... but depending on how formal the place is, even a brighter colour, more interesting shape, or a comfy material might make you feel a tiny bit closer to your own roots!
Thank you so much for making this video, Mili! It was really helpful and confirmed that my roots are Mountain, Mushroom and Fire. I was wondering if I have mountain and mushroom both, because in general I like mountain more. But on my casual every day life mushroom is a more realistic way to dress put together and timeless. We'll see if it changes when I move on from studying to working, I may need to revisit my roots then. I don't feel at all a need to be relaxed and while I maybe want a point of interest in my outfit, I rather want to achieve that with a feminine/sensual fire element than something unexpected/different. I actually now think that fire is more important root for me what I thought about when I filmed my style roots video. If I have nothing sensual in my outfit, I feel too plain and like something is missing.
Thanks for watching and sharing Katariina! I totally think these 3 are reflected well in your style (from what I've seen!). And 100% get you on the neeed to have something feminine / sensual - if I don't, it feels like something is missing for me, too!
Omg, congrats for all of the work for this video! Your approach is super insightful and you are very good at identifying the questions we must ask in this process. Would you recommend some good quality brands for the combination mountain + sun + moon? I'm a foreigner living in the U.S. for just a couple months and don't know many brands yet (I know you don't live in the U.S., but I'm pretty sure you're more familiar with American brands than me - I'm Brazilian). Also, where did you buy this gorgeous pointed toe loafers? Thank you!
@@leticiapalazzo2957 aww thank you! I love thinking about style, and I'm really glad that things resonate! So the loafers are from a brand called Vagabond shoes. I thrifted them and they're 100% leather so they're really comfy and practical too! Hmmm mountain + sun + moon is a great combo! So I'd look into Diane Von furstenberg (DvF) - she has some great skirts / dresses in quite crazy prints, but you can get some of the darker leaning ones. Also maybe looking into Ganni and Essentiel Antwerp - both are quite pricey but I'm sure you can find them on poshmark I'd also look into Maje / Sandro - they often do "fun" prices but in more structured shapes, and might have some details like chains / rhinestones etc. I'd also look into having some staples in terms of pants / shoes / coat that fit in mountain - so then you can have more "interesting" clothes and calmer accessories:) hope this helps!
That's a common misconception! I think florals can be very flower if they're delicate .. but if you light brighter florals, fun colours and designs, that leans more sun for sure! Thank you for watching :)
Totally understand, and I think 'dark' is the word that Ellie uses :) Glad you have found your style root(s) though - I think they're really helpful :)
I have to admit that the system still confuses me. Your explanation is great and I actually think I have the same style roots as you, but they too fluctuate so I don't really connect with them. The style words work better for me, because they have the flexibility in mind. Edit: I think focussing on 3 style roots work for making an outfit or a capsule wardrobe, but, at least for me, they don't apply to the whole personality
All dog owners have stone. At least they use it for the walks. I eould say my sister is very montain but she ha,a dog and does riding,so there is stone.
Yeah that makes sense, I don't see anyone walking their dog in a very mountain or sun outfit haha! I think some people have a very small capsule of 'walking the dog' clothes but don't dress in stone for the rest of the day, others incorporate stone in their entire style!
I'm very mushroom an I disagree wird Ellie Jean about you must have 3 roots. Well, according to your scheme I'm more mountain, because I want structure and being put together. But with few clothes and easy. And I have a bit earth: loose fit, comfortable, neutral colors. My husband has a very strong earth style root. And sun- dark sun,he has many black T Shirts. But with comics etc on it. I think that moon is sun,but darker and more serious. I'm neither sun nor moon. Me being serious is my mountain root. Mountain is kind of mushroom more serious and formal, I think. I don' t want glam and sparkle or being girly so I think I don' t have fire or flower. I' m a classic body type, that' s very feminine.
That's great that you seem to know yourself (and your husband too) - I agree to an extent that moon is sun but darker and more serious :) I also have a classic body type so I agree, I think our body is already naturally feminine and balanced, so if you don't want to emphasise that, you absolutely don't need to!
I think it gets way easier if you apply the 3 style roots to one outfit formula, but not to the whole person or wardrobe. I resonated with many style roots, but they will change depending on the occasion and mood. But for making one balanced outfit, I think the roots can be very helpful to decide which items to use.
What an informative video! Amazing work! For me I lead more towards ⛰️🌸🌱, although I also leave some space for experimenting. Definitely love the idea of interpretation of the outfit concept and adjusting it more towards your own personal style. Love the video.
Thank you so much for watching and commenting Daria! I found it liberating to have the style needs rather than roots, because it does allow for that interpetation and adjustment!

I'm a soft classic (based on my own typing and that of quite a few people) .. so it makes sense that I'm very "in the middle". I look pretty undone in anything stone or earth because they're the opposite of what looks good on a soft classic. And I always strive for balance! The fire one definitely looks fine, it suits my body but I'm definitely a bit self conscious with deep Vs 😅
I love that you've found yourself in the style roots that make a lot of sense for ingenue / petite - I think flower and sun have a lot of that, and the gamine wands a bit of mix of things - so mountain + earth can give you that!
I'd definitely try doing more outfits for combinations :) maybe on shorts?
@@MiliVelikova Yes, shorts are perfect for these outfit combinations. And maybe a future video where you'd discuss your color season and how that plays into your style roots?
you’ve done such a good job with this vid! thank you for the clear and detailed explanations!
Glad you've enjoyed this Devi, thank you for wathing!
Day looks are: flower and sun
Night looks are: moon and fire
Always
Wow, wow, wow. This video is amazing. You did such an incredible job with these concepts. I just subscribed.
@@estherwilliams7005 thank you so much Esther! Welcome to the channel ❤️
I loved this video. Thank you!
Thank you so much for watching!! I appreciate you :)
This is so helpful!
@@lilithowl thank you for watching, glad this was helpful!!
Your video confirmed what I thought my style roots are. Thank you. Btw I love that Sun outfit on you.
@@Mitra-sd7np oh amazing, thanks for watching! And which of the two sun outfits? The bright yellow or the neutral one? I kinda like them both 😂 What are your roots btw?
@@MiliVelikova The bright yellow one. But you like them both too 😀
Top quality as usual!
To me the mushroom person doesn't like to be too exposed or sensual, and even though you might like feminine and even bright sun pieces, if the cut itself is more minimalist, simple, balanced, classic - I think that's mushroom!
great explanation!
@@penelopecoker8978 thank you so much, glad this was clear!
Excellent breakdown and clear examples. We have similar style except I lean more ☀️, especially in spring & summer. Bold colors and patterns, classic silhouette with feminine details
Aw love that J - sun is a great root I usually explore more in spring summer too! Thanks for watching :))
Wow! You did a very thorough job explaining this. Thanks!
@@ewinstead9709 thank you so much for watching E ❤️
Again, this is a very helpful video. I need a huge number of examples to understand things like that. I bought Ellie's book after watching your video, and I'm curious about what I can learn from it.
Thank you ❤
Although I have to admit, I still struggle to find my roots.
This is very helpful, i finally found my style...mountain!
Woohoo so glad this was helpful, thanks for watching!
From your wonderful explanations I have discovered I am mushroom, stone and sun
This soooo good! Thank you for illustrating these style roots for us. It helps make it so much more clear.
I'm so glad this was helpful, thanks for watching!
Always comfortable.)
It's a very rare day when I am aiming at the feminine. I feel off if I look too sexy or too much like a fairy princess/little girl. It's just not a place where I feel myself. (Though I'm not comfortable in a too masculine place, either.)
Great way to work with the system.
Also maybe looking into Ganni and Essentiel Antwerp - both are quite pricey but I'm sure you can find them on poshmark
I'd also look into Maje / Sandro - they often do "fun" prices but in more structured shapes, and might have some details like chains / rhinestones etc.
I'd also look into having some staples in terms of pants / shoes / coat that fit in mountain - so then you can have more "interesting" clothes and calmer accessories:) hope this helps!
You look great in the jumpsuit
Aw thank you Mary!
I thought I had flower f cause I liked florals but I found out that was pretty much it and It was closer to sun actually
That's a common misconception! I think florals can be very flower if they're delicate .. but if you light brighter florals, fun colours and designs, that leans more sun for sure! Thank you for watching :)
I’d say I’m 🌸 🌱 or 🔥 🌙 depending on my mood.
Oh sometimes ☀️ thrown into one of those combos ❤
Love it! Those would make for some really fun outfits!
🍄 🌱
I wish you had used dark/edgy for moon and not tough/strong. I am very moon but don't relate to the word "tough" at all.
Me being serious is my mountain
root. Mountain is kind of mushroom more serious and formal, I think.
I don' t want glam and sparkle or being girly so I think I don' t have fire or flower.
I' m a classic body type,that' s very feminine.
That's great that you seem to know yourself (and your husband too) - I agree to an extent that moon is sun but darker and more serious :)
I also have a classic body type so I agree, I think our body is already naturally feminine and balanced, so if you don't want to emphasise that, you absolutely don't need to!
Fantastic video! I knew I was 🌞🌸 but struggled with my third root and using your method I fall right in the middle of 🌱and🪨
Thank you so much for watching, glad it helped you figure out where you're at on the 'relaxed' style need spectrum!
