20 KT leveled most of Hiroshima. After that, it goes up by the 2/3rds power of the blast. 150 MT would have leveled most of the Island of Great Britain. Read Herman Kahn’s Thinking The Unthinkable for dispassionate discussion.
What's even more daunting is that because of concerns about the literal fallout that could have resulted, the Soviets stopped at 50 Megatons instead of the upper limit of 100.

We should’ve stopped making nukes more powerful after the atom bomb. We should let the fat man and little boy be the only weapons of mass destruction ever used in warfare.
Big bombs are less destructive than many smaller bombs, though, so the big ones only make sense to split asteroids the size of Texas. There is a reason that the largest devices in the USA arsenal are about one half megaton or less, especially in the good old days of nine thousand warheads or more.
Fun fact: The Tsar Bomba was a relatively clean nuclear bomb with fast fission eliminated, thermonuclear fusion accounted for as much as 97% of the yield. Thus, despite its huge yield, Tsar Bomba did not actually generate much nuclear fallout. If the fast fission was never eliminated, it would have created a dangerous amount of nuclear fallout and turned it into a 100-megaton nuclear bomb.
It was not a warning but a technological competition. The West (USA)succeeded before the Soviets in making a thermonuclear bomb, but it was not a bomb but a device the size of a building. The Soviets were the first to make a practical device that an airplane can carry and throw.
Tsar was designed because Soviet missiles lacked accuracy compared to US warheads. So if the Soviets couldn't compete in accuracy, it could make up for it with yield size.
@@TheJTcreate missiles? warheads? Do you even know what this is about? During the 50's and 60's there were no nuclear warheads or nuclear missiles. It also served as a technology demonstrator for potentially bigger designs. It proves that there's almost no limit on how powerful a Thermonuclear weapon can get. Theoretically a bomb like that could be planted on the sea floor some distance away from the target and be used as an earthquake bomb to destroy cities without any radioactivity. Or just use the Tsunami from it💀💀
The Russians do have a Nuclear armed and propelled Mega Torpedo exactly for this purpose. They claim it has similar yield to the Tsar bomb and can be salted with Colat 60 to create a radioactive Tsunami washing cities away

nothing since it has a 2 megaton warhead and in any case even if it had 100, water is the best thing to contain the explosions and in any case to make the tsunami more powerful that of 2004 in Indonesia to create waves 10 meters high they have been calculated that it would have taken not 10 not 100, but rather 56,000 megatons very far from 2 megatons of the poseidon torpedo which needs to be seen if it exists, and if it exists in what state it is seen that even the burevestnik the nuclear propelled cruise missile flew only for a few km and nuclear propulsion didn't even happen, indeed in another test it exploded killing 6 famous Russian scientists in the field of nuclear weapons in Archangel oblast.

100 MT levels an entire city. 1 MT levels an entire neighborhood. 10 KT levels an entire residential area. Nukes are bad.
20 KT leveled most of Hiroshima. After that, it goes up by the 2/3rds power of the blast. 150 MT would have leveled most of the Island of Great Britain. Read Herman Kahn’s Thinking The Unthinkable for dispassionate discussion.

Nah, it's too inconvenient to use in real combat. They claim to have Poseidon torpedos now armed with 200 MT nukes, far stronger than this one. A 'Tsunami' from the blue, if you may.
The problem with H-bombs is that they are too easy to build big.
The fact that the soviets named it "tsar" 💀💀💀
Which means "leader". We could've "tsared" them back, but what's the point??
8 meters is not the site of a building
Tsar was designed because Soviet missiles lacked accuracy compared to US warheads. So if the Soviets couldn't compete in accuracy, it could make up for it with yield size.
@@TheJTcreate missiles? warheads? Do you even know what this is about? During the 50's and 60's there were no nuclear warheads or nuclear missiles.
First high-yield thermonuclear weapon test were conducted by the USA and it name was Castle Bravo. It was a huge device mounted on ground and activated remotely. In order for the Soviets to show that they are not late with technology, they made an even stronger bomb, but now more compact and portable.
Just nuclear race.
A lot of this should be prepared for NATO in case of world war.
