The problem lies with no consistency perks, which is a problem for Aggressives. If Aggressives didn’t need Opening Shot to be usual, then Mindbenders becomes a Top 5 shotgun overnight
Was about to comment this. This was a great indication of the ridiculousness of Opening Shot on the heavy hitting shotties. The curated roll had Steady Rounds, but its lower range because of that did not seem to matter. It was always a super consistent shotgun. The "God roll" for most was either Quickdraw/Slideshot or Quickdraw/Snapshot.
Way too early to say. Besides, you can still have it with threat detector/fragile focus. Gives essentially the same buffs and such but with more risk/reward elements added. On top of that, do you *really* wanna relive that year 2 meta all over again?

Tbf Threat Detector is seriously under rated. It procs at 15m and gives you the info someone is that close even if they are invis. Imo it is way more reliable and definitely more consistant than Surplus. When else would you want to quickly swap to your shotty? Add Quick Access Sling and Quick Charge and you're good.
This is the one gun I never got rid of when I got it. I have full choke, accurized, threat detect and QD with range MW. This gun in my baby in crucible and still is.
No it couldn't roll quickdraw opening shot. Opening shot was only on the curated one with rampage. You could get quickdraw slideshot or quickdraw snapshot as the 2 godrolls. Quick/snap is better now due to the quickdraw nerf but it's the only remaining agressive shotty in the game with quickdraw.
dude i think it needs this roll, but fully kitted out for range, plus adept range mod. brings it to 69 range and 15 handling, but u only need this shotty out within 15 meters of an enemy anyway. this is what i'll grind for at least. gun lighting up is too sick
Threat Detector will let you pull it out pretty darn fast, plus will let you know an invisible player is near you when they are off radar. Combined with fragile focus I think it will be decent.
Its so annoying that bungie added now a second aggressive frame SG into the nightfall weapon pool which is completely garbage compared to many other option... such a letdown.
Quick charge, quick access sling, threat detector and swash range mw accurized and either full choke or small bore can easily make it smooth for swap, especially since so far my trash roll sudden death (doesnt have ele cap) is getting some good swap speeds. But i suppose thats a personal preference.
Weird that they took away quickdraw when its been nerfed, and no surplus either even though they were fine putting it on felwinters. These days you're just better off using a lightweight - same chance of 1-shotting but extra mobility and usually better handling.

One of the new perks is Pugilist, a perk that gives Melee energy on a kill. If it works anything like its cousin, Demolitionist, I'll be looking for shotguns and other weapons with that perk for melee-centric builds.
I think it'll feel fine, Barrel Shroud/Assault Mag/Snapshot Sights/steady hands/Handling Masterwork/Quick Charge Mod will feel as good if not better than sunset mindbenders. They've stated that steady hands gives higher handling than prenerf quickdraw. Plus snapshot gives the best ADS benefit for specials.

Wether I’m patrolling the moon all alone in some random spot or in a crucible match surrounded by enemies. I want it to feel the same. Never been a fan of threat detector for that reason and I’ve never been a fan of perks that only change the way your gun feels after you meet specific requirements. Id much rather have snapshot since it’s always working.

Yeah except then you’ll have 29 range on an aggressive frame without opening shot. 60 range on an aggressive frame is ideal. A better roll would be barrel shroud/accurized/threat detector/fragile focus/range masterwork with an adept handling mod. 49 range with 54 handling plus quick charge, handling mod and threat detector should feel pretty good. Fragile focus is just poor man’s opening shot, but it’s still gotta be better than steady hands which needs a 1 shot kill with your shotgun to proc.
It’s crazy to think that a lot of people still do not know that Quick Charge is a legit option for shotgun handling. It’s a complete game changer for sure. With Ophidians and Quick Charge, all shotguns feel extremely snappy!
I mean is there a reason to not run the triple cwl mods for +20+s and the handling? You can't use scavs, you don't really need double targeting and you only really need a reload and Dex mod on gloves which leaves the slot open. Has made countering apes more consistent for me ever since i realised how it worked.
The handling isn’t really the issue imo. The problem is that the last perks are really bad. The best perk is Fragile Focus and that shit sucks on Shotguns
Actually I’d argue swashbuckler is the best. Combine that with ophidian warlock, knockout Titan, or combat flow hunter and you’ll be able to get off a shotgun melee combo pretty easily giving you 5 stacks of swash which is a 33.3% damage increase, making it feel a lot more consistent and able to hit from farther ranges. Imo fragile focus is arguably the worst as there’s no way to swap to this gun before taking damage (low handling) and you’ll be taking damage anyways if you’re aping, it’ll probably see little to no uptime. I agree tho, other than swash (and maybe one two punch for supers but without remorse does that better) there is basically nothing in that final column. Wish they had put snapshot in there instead of the third, snap and threat together would make it feel so nice

This used to be a PvP weapon that you had to grind PvE content for. I feel like they decided to make it a PvE weapon. Especially since unstoppable shotgun is a thing and you can get things like incandescent on this one right after they released Solar 3.0.

Rifled is not the play tho hey barrel shroud and it checks all the boxes especially good sights also that arc mod that gives 25 handling puts the roll I want at 69 handling with threat detector it will be snappy along with fragile and 59 range

@@awee1564 If you want a 1-2 punch shotty for bubble and well, I would use the craftable shotgun from last season or the one from dares since they both can get enhanced 1-2 punch. Enhance 1-2 punch decreases the amount of pellets needed to get the buff. Great on lightweight shottys

Found verdict isn't that good, realistically you are going to use your abilities a bunch so surplus won't be active at all times, it's really only good if you have ophidians...
Found Verdict with all Handling + Quick Charge is near 100 handling at all time. You don’t need Surplus if you don’t like it. Instead run another S tier per on shotguns, Slideshot. Mindbender’s has neither of these options. Then in the 2nd column really your only option is Fragile Focus, which is a worse Opening Shot. 2-0 win for Found Verdict there.
Like many other people I grinded non stop every time it was available for that perfect roll and I still keep them. I did get the considered god rolls and the curated roll as well. When I saw it was coming back I just about screamed lol. But as soon as I saw those perks, ugh. Why bring something back but have it be worse, that’s just a messed up thing to do. Easily one of the coolest shotguns ever made and so dominate in PVP and now they are ruining that legacy by bringing it back but being a lesser version.
U dont need ophidians lol u just need decent handling with adept handling and quick charge with shotty dexterity and with those mods the speed and slide distance of transversives will help
Well, I don't give a f*ck about perks on mindbender's. I've always been playing with snap + rampage, choke and assault and i loved it. And I still love, i still using it in comp, quick and so on. I love this shoty not because of it's perks but because of it's look, vibe, sound. And it's adept now so i can have even more handling than i had before. So I'm happy seeing it back and I'll grind for it as hard as it could be

I would swap Snapshot for TD. Gives a better handling percentage for drawing your shotgun

Still have my snapshot, quickdraw roll in the vault. It and curated explosive payload spare rations was my go to PVP loadout way back when.

I agree it has a whack perk pool now but if I get Threat Detector Fragile Focus with the rest of the good good ill be happy, understanding why Mindbenders perks were good back in Forsaken helped me understand loadouts believe it or not and perks in general to get better at the game because the first few I got were totally ass

Sudden Death would still be much better in terms of handling. Fragile Focus wouldn't do much to one hit kill potential. Plus it's not always active

Rifled is not the play tho hey barrel shroud and it checks all the boxes especially good sights also that arc mod that gives 25 handling puts the roll I want at 69 handling with threat detector it will be snappy along with fragile and 59 range

@@awee1564 If you want a 1-2 punch shotty for bubble and well, I would use the craftable shotgun from last season or the one from dares since they both can get enhanced 1-2 punch. Enhance 1-2 punch decreases the amount of pellets needed to get the buff. Great on lightweight shottys

Found verdict isn't that good, realistically you are going to use your abilities a bunch so surplus won't be active at all times, it's really only good if you have ophidians...

Found Verdict with all Handling + Quick Charge is near 100 handling at all time. You don’t need Surplus if you don’t like it. Instead run another S tier per on shotguns, Slideshot. Mindbender’s has neither of these options. Then in the 2nd column really your only option is Fragile Focus, which is a worse Opening Shot. 2-0 win for Found Verdict there.

Like many other people I grinded non stop every time it was available for that perfect roll and I still keep them. I did get the considered god rolls and the curated roll as well. When I saw it was coming back I just about screamed lol. But as soon as I saw those perks, ugh. Why bring something back but have it be worse, that’s just a messed up thing to do. Easily one of the coolest shotguns ever made and so dominate in PVP and now they are ruining that legacy by bringing it back but being a lesser version.

Well, I don't give a f*ck about perks on mindbender's. I've always been playing with snap + rampage, choke and assault and i loved it. And I still love, i still using it in comp, quick and so on. I love this shoty not because of it's perks but because of it's look, vibe, sound. And it's adept now so i can have even more handling than i had before. So I'm happy seeing it back and I'll grind for it as hard as it could be
