Knowledge of what you’re doing while also having a well qualified vessel such as the catamaran you two have should be enough to get the two of you across any body of water. Right ? Absolutely! 😊
Well certainly lots happening. Glad to see some sailing time as I know you want to be off the engines. Congratulations on crossing the equator . The food prep clearly is going well. I love the excitement as you reach goals. Be safe always
Excellent passage video! I really enjoy watching the day to day things that go on that make this kind of voyage possible… Thank you and cheers from Anacortes.
We've just stumbled across your channel and have binged watched through the next 4 epi's 📹 and loved them all. We have such a Facination with the South 🏝 Pacific and we look forward to following your Journey ⛵ with much Envey Cheers Mick & Nikki 🇦🇺
@5:44 Ray, why didn't you just use the pressure washer against the attacking birds! Now were getting somewhere LOL! It'd be like that old game Missile Defense!
Hi, love your channel and adventures! My wife and I are nearing full retirement and like other non sailors, our experience has only been on a few Royal Caribbean cruises and a day sail on an inland lake. We're both scuba divers and love the water, and are contemplating the catamaran lifestyle at some point, (understandably, this would be after a crewed charter to see if we like the lifestyle, lessons, and then a few more charters before outlaying capital for a boat), one of my wife's lingering questions/concerns are would she get bored or stir crazy looking out at endless blue all the time during passages, and doing maintenance all day is not her idea of a retirement-traveling. My thought is most of our travels would be island hopping in the Caribbean and not passage making at this time, but who knows. Your insights and perspectives would be most appreciative, thx.
Hi, Mike! Thanks for watching! Personally, I never tire of the endless blue view. In the Caribbean, most island hopping can be done via short day sails, conditions change, keeping things interesting, and we’re almost always listening to music or an audiobook. There is also plenty to do while underway, we’re more likely to go stir crazy on anchor. I would recommended cultivating a few indoor hobbies before moving aboard a boat for those longer stretches of bad weather that “trap” you indoors. :)
@@HollyandRay Thanks Holly, we just finished a few minutes ago watching your Q&A from patrons while anchored in the Marquesas. My wife loves your videos as you guys keep it real and show the good and the tough side of your adventures. So happy for you guys and look forward to your passage to Australia and the adventures there! My wife, Deb, said she has no shortage of inside hobbies, so no problem there, but she feels a kindred spirit to you as she also talks to animals all the time, the butterflies in the garden, the birds in our trees, and even the darn lizards that set off our Ring camera/doorbell at 6 AM in the morning. Cheers.
Haha! I’ve been chatting with animals for as long as I can remember! Glad to hear that I’m not the only one. :) This life is full of challenges, but in our opinion it’s worth it. We’re still working on grabbing the camera when things are tough, but it hasn’t become natural to us quite yet- we share even more on our blog if you’re ever craving more! Sometimes it’s easier to write than film…
how much diesel fuel did you start out with ? how much did you consume on this trip ? VERY interesting !! I sailed my 10.8 meter sloop from San Diego, Ca. to Ft. Myers Fl. mostly alone. AN ADVENTURE !! Lived on board for 8 years.. SINGLE !!
I've never tried dried beans. I live in Fl and moisture is a problem, i use regular white rice in my salt, and other seasonings that turn sticky.it works well. Wondering if you have used rice and the beans work better? Another great video! Thx for sharing the fon! Bummer about the parts failure. Prayers your way!
Thank you for the well wishes! I have tried rice, but the holes in my spice bottle shakers are a bit too large and we got tired of finding raw grains of rice in our food, so beans it is! So far, so good 🫘
I like the rubber shock absorber on the preventer. I hate hearing it bang from time to time and that will solve it. Best part is I have a few extras on board and will do that shortly. Safe travels. It would also be great if you could give us the miles traveled each day report. We are crossing next year and it would be great to see reality before we take that adventure
Hey, Chad! Yes the snubber works great, we’ve been using it like that for years. So exciting to hear about your future crossing! We have been doing daily real time blog posts and Instagram updates that might shed some light on the reality of the passage for you. Ray’s Instagram updates usually include miles traveled. :)
Great episode guys ‼️ 🎉 😊 Seems like only minor chafe/ wear-n-tear not to mention great attitudes unlike some other crossings I've watched. Love it. Looking forward to the next episode..........Soooooo, we'll see you next time. ✨ 🌊 💨 ⛵️ 🏝️ 👙 🌞 ✨
Hi, I just came across yr channel. Need to see more of Ash in front of camera. It was wonderful Ray washing boat, Ray checking proactively for repairs, Ray repairing engines, ray repairing outside, Ray repairing inside, Ray repairing the covers, Ray washing theRay washing windows….. Ray seemed to be doing everything except cooking. Time to get Ray behind the camera more as i get the feeling you are far more hands on than you present yourself. Looking forward to following yr trip across the pacific
Is it a perverse suggestion? Possibly they just need to look for a channel that shows more skin.....🤷🏻♂️. Maybe that's not what was meant but that's all I can come up with. I like your content just fine the way it is😇❤️
My first video of yours. Just subscribed. In WW2 when US Navy in the Pacific War crossed the Equator, they would get on the PA system & play Dixie as they steamed south. Isn't that cool?
Happy you’ve joined us! Welcome aboard! That sounds like an incredible experience. We love hearing everyone’s equator crossing stories- so cool that everyone seems to have a different ceremony.
For the whales I suggest the fireworks called M80 , it will not hurt them but the bang should quite effectively scare them off. We use them in the Gulf Coast for practically the same reasons. Fair-winds Shellbacks !!! Woo hoo!!⛵️🎊
So... how close to real time are you? Nahoa's latest vid was sailing past Columbia. I'm going to hazard a guess that they are behind by 8 weeks or so. Show them and their sweeties when you get to Marquesas. I remember being in awe of their first landfall and hike there. First I'd seen because Delos wasn't making many vids when they were first there. Thanks for the vids.
Not officially a shellback unless you do something wild and crazy while crossing the equator. So hopefully y'all ran around the boat naked or something else just as wild and crazy.
We’ve always used “Rice” to absorb moisture in everything, but I’m sure it’s from using it in salt to keep it from turning into mush. I’ve never heard of using beans, you’ll have to let us know if it works or grows beans……😂
Holly. Orca attacks in the eastern Pacific are almost unheard of. However, a Drama in Real Life story in Reader's Digest is of a Sailboat sunk by orcas off Mexico 1971. A family, parents and 2 or 3 kids, were attacked. Their monohull was made of ferrocement. But fiberglass isn't much better in that situation. Don't be too concerned about orcas until you get to southern Spain. Nice pilot whale and spinner dolphin footage.
Et bien le bonjour a vous deux,je suis nouveau sur votre site ....here is a little french for you and you could reply if you wish i am from MONTREAL.....YOU AVE A GREAT DAY
Mentioning Med Orca interactions on a Pacific Crossing is nothing short of RUclips revenue spin. Experts = Ex - Unknown quantity, Pert - Drip under pressure.
Ah, man… missed opportunity! I should’ve titled the video “Can’t believe we saw THIS in the middle of the ocean😳” or “Close encounter with KILLER WHALES: Will we make it to French Polynesia?!” 😂 THEN maybe we’d make some money!!
Knowledge of what you’re doing while also having a well qualified vessel such as the catamaran you two have should be enough to get the two of you across any body of water. Right ? Absolutely! 😊
You can also put dry white rice in your spice jars that works well.

Thank you! So happy to have you with us for the adventure (virtually) ☺️
Thank you for the great episode and sharing your experiences! And thank you soooo much for not playing annoying music!!!
Hahaha thank you! My rule is if the song annoys me while I’m editing the video, I change or delete it😂
And no fast edits for no reason.

Nice video! Happy to see you guys in your groove now.
Thanks! We’re happy to be back on the move❤️⛵️
Hi guys! @3:55 I've heard that buying rubber snakes and putting them all over the boat can deter birds. I love the jack line idea though! Yaaaaa! LOL!
Hahaha! Sometimes we have to improvise… 🤷🏼♀️😂
Things are looking great.
Indeed! Submitting my formal request for ~15kn of wind aft of the beam though… 😉🤞🏼

Mini marshmallows will help with moisture. Great for brown sugar and spices. Anything that gets hard

Thanks for watching! ☺️
What program did you use for the boat across the map at the start of the video ?
Travel Boast!
You can put white rice in your spices, which does the same thing.
Yes but rice tends to squeeze through my shakers and it’s harder to pick it out of our food! 😂
For the whales I suggest the fireworks called M80 , it will not hurt them but the bang should quite effectively scare them off. We use them in the Gulf Coast for practically the same reasons. Fair-winds Shellbacks !!! Woo hoo!!⛵️🎊
Interesting! We’ll have to look into that when we make it over near Spain (where most of the encounters are happening). Thank you!! ⛵️

Some things have to stay private, John 😉🤫
Never tried dry beans but rice has always worked for me
Beans or rice. Cooking. I'll take rice. Multipurpose
Rice is more economical cooking or multipurpose
Tradition states you must thank Neptune and ask for his blessing when crossing the equater.
Correct!
Looking great you two!

I was going to do rice but the holes on my shakers are too big! We’d be unintentionally eating raw rice with every meal😂

Yes, that’s why we didn’t have a plan! Loved how close the pilot whales came, we’ll remember it forever… :)
What happens in Spain? I’m about to learn how to sail and I’m worried by orcas. I actually dislike them!

you got to have a thimble brother ... good idea to invest in a sewing machine also
On our wish list for when we return to civilization😅
Fun Sailing 😊
Indeed ☺️
good luck with the bulkheads
No bulkhead issues on the 42
What is the length of your boat ?? Wish i were with you guys. :))
42 feet! :)

gotta know what kind of rum that was?
Abuelo! Got it in Panama.
How many person on board?
Just the two of us!
I get the orca fear. I hated sailing down the coast of Spain. I am happy to never sea any whale.
If this is still an issue when we head that way, we may skip it😅 So scary.
