Holly and Ray

Just a couple of sailors trying to stay afloat and filming along the way! With no jobs and no plan, we live every day like it’s Saturday. ⛵️
Originally from Portland, Oregon, and San Diego, California, we sold all our belongings in exchange for a life on the water. Now, we are slowly circumnavigating! With backgrounds in science and engineering, we have a knack for technology and self-repairs. Our vlogs are casual, real-time videos that feature us enjoying and constantly trying to improve upon our 2017 Lagoon 42.

Trouble in Paradise?⛈ Sailing the South Pacific
Join us for a rough week in the Tuamotus, a notoriously exposed island chain offering little to no protection if a storm rolls through.😬 We wait out a five-day blow in Makemo before sailing overnight to Fakarava to refuel. The forecast drastically changes at the last minute, and we find ourselves bouncing around in an unprotected anchorage… 🫣 It’s not always sunshine and snorkeling out here! ⛵️

What it’s REALLY Like Sailing the Remote Islands of the South Pacific⛵️
Просмотров 3,1 тыс.21 день назад
Annnnd we’re off!⛵️ This week, we head to our next atoll in the Tuamotu Islands of French Polynesia. We keep an eye out for coral bommies and struggle to time our exit and entrance through the pass with the unpredictable tides.🌊 We sailed through the night, selected a less-than-ideal anchorage to avoid navigating in poor visibility, and dragged anchor. We re-provisioned and moved to a more suit...

We Sailed to Our DREAM DESTINATION!⛵️🏝️
Просмотров 3,8 тыс.Месяц назад
This week, we spent some quality time with the locals learning how to harvest giant clams, weave hats out of palm fronds, dance, and play the ukulele. 🏝️ We hosted friends for dinner, watched a fantastic sunset, and then made the best of a windy morning by running the watermaker and working on a new monitoring screen. 💻 The goal is to know when something is wrong with our watermaker and/or our ...

WE MADE IT! 🏝️ Difficult 4-Day Sail to the Tuamotus
Просмотров 4,8 тыс.2 месяца назад
If it was easy, everyone would do it! Join us for a not-so-enjoyable sail to the remote islands of the Tuamotus. 😩 We struggled to stay positive when the weather forecast was dead wrong, our chartplotter screen and mainsail lazy jack broke, and we found ourselves navigating through the narrow, unfamiliar pass dodging numerous bommies with terrible visibility and 25kn winds, despite our patience...
SAILING THE SOUTH PACIFIC⛵ Preparing for the Tuamotus

Are we crazy, leaving the Marquesas so soon? ⛵️ We sailed for 27 days to get here, but we’re ready to move on to the Tuamotus. 🏝️ In this video, we take you along as we sail overnight from a beautiful, empty anchorage in Tahuata to the busy island of Nuku Hiva. There, we restock on spares, food, and fuel in preparation for our 3-4 day sail to the remote islands of the Tuamotus. 🌊 ⛵️Join the Cre...

I am a linux engineer and a sailor I will be happy to build system like yours as I have none - just a tablet with navionics it will be nice to have detailed video on it internals and have a links (affiliate) to all components
Hello! We have more details (wiring diagrams, explanation docs, etc.) on our Patreon, and lots of the gear is linked on our Amazon page. :) You can also message us on Instagram- we’re happy to answer any questions you may have!
More radio goodness! Gotta love it! lol
We always keep it in if we catch something good😂
"Did we leave Saturday?" I thought every day was Saturday!?!? lmao
As a truck driver it did my heart good hearing that folks on boats use their radios the same way we do in trucks.... to tell idiots they're being idiots!
Hahaha! We’re all living similar lives 😎
My husband and I are also about to live on a boat and sail as well! ❤
How exciting!! Fair winds❤️
Great video, thumbs up! Happy to learn what OpenCPN and SignalK, which I've never heard of, can do, I'll definitely look into that too as we're about to move aboard. Was a little bummed to hear you've got many Tb of pirated movies, etc. Having friends in the film-making business, I can assure you that downloading movies, music, etc, w/o paying hurts far more people than Lady Gaga, Brad Pitt, Mr. Bean or Harvey Weinstein. Watch the credits at the end of movie, there are literally hundreds of non-zillionaires working the industry trying to survive. Sorry, not trying to preach, ok, maybe I am, but just my PSA for doing it the right way. Not judging, got plenty of close friends who do the same. Hope we'll see you out there someday soon.
How long did you take to get tou this result?
Hmmm maybe 4 days once we got all the supplies.
Where is the fresh foods video? I can't seem to find it :(
Wish you would have showed more pictures of the completed system.
What kind of pictures? The batteries in their compartment and the solar panels maybe?
How were you able to directly save the track to the SIM card in the B&G? Assuming it's on the network and somehow the card is mounted as a shared drive from your OpenCPN system?
Hi, Doug! The B&G Zeus has a ftp server that you can log in to and do the transfer.
Great video guys! Stay safe… missing ya’ll!!
Miss you KK! You two are welcome aboard anytime. ❤️
You are living my dream, I can experience it through you guys, count your blessing and keep going! Thank you!
Thank you for your kind words, this is our dream, too! We never forget it❤️
Another great video you are clearly a competent and professional bow watch. I love seeing the team work, which brings smiles. I hope your weather improves. Continue to enjoy and be safe.
Thank you, Angelo! We’re yearning for some sunshine😩
Some Sensational Sunsets and Sunrises 😍 Great Chilled Epi 📹 Is there a reason why Ray likes the handlines over a good Boat Rod 🎣 Cheers Mick & Nikki 🇦🇺
Thanks, guys! Hand lines are easier to store and less likely to get stolen. 😅 It’s also easier to get the fish from the water onto the boat with a hand line!
Thank you so very much and wish you all the best! Fair winds and nice times!
Thank you! ❤️
@10:51 What's up with the sombraro and the teletubbie on your outboard! So... weird... :)
Hahaha! The purple teletubbie is Tinky Winky, it’s what we drunkenly named our dinghy years ago😂 and the sombrero is actually a light, but the cheap adhesive patch is peeling up.
I saw that pink sky and you said good morning and I thought dang here it comes. Like sleeping in the washing machine. Still, so pretty out there.
A beautiful but unforgiving place, for sure. 😅
I’ve been binge watching your vids. I’m at 1 year ago, 7 days offshore. Your videos went from good to excellent. Really enjoying!!!!
Hello and welcome!☺️ Thanks for watching! We have definitely learned a lot about filming and editing along the way, so glad you are enjoying the videos❤️
Glad to see you guys on RUclips again. I am a friend of your grandmother Gladys.
Hi Linda, thanks for watching! ❤️
What editing software are you using on your IPAD
Luma Fusion!
Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice episode, guys‼️ Totally love the yellow SABADO t-shirt💕 BTW, the video of the weather was just fine👍🏻 Some glorious colors for sure……especially the 1st one where you mentioned the lighting was weird. Beautiful transition from shallow light blue to deeper blue to the shimmering storm/twilight on the surface. F.a.b.u.l.o.u.s.🎉🎉🎉 See you next time. ✨🌊💨⛵️🏝️👙🌞✨
Glad you enjoyed this one! I’m always interested to see what the clouds are doing🤔
Lovely! I watch a lot of sailing channels and you guys and Sailing Nahoa are my favorites! Love the laidback presentation.
Wow! It is such a compliment to be compared to those guys! Thank you! ❤️
@@HollyandRay Its well earned, keep it up🙌
Haha that’s the ocean. 6ft waves are nothing.
Are the 6ft seas in the room with us 😂
Hahaha😂 Cameras can never capture the actual sea state!
@@HollyandRayok as surfer I can believe that
@windy6455 especially from above like this!
Nice bird 🐦
Oh god I miss Sailing😢😊
It’s always an adventure😂
What kind of fuel conditioning system do you use?
It’s a Racor fuel filtration/water separation system!
Super cool thank you
Thanks for watching! :)
You can put white rice in your spices, which does the same thing.
Yes but rice tends to squeeze through my shakers and it’s harder to pick it out of our food! 😂
Can u pls share more on the hardware, OS and software packages used for your navdesk dusplay? How did u integrate it with bg and radar? Links? Much appreciated appreciated. Thx!
We have put together some documents & wiring diagrams about this on our Patreon! :)
We've just stumbled across your channel and have binged watched through the next 4 epi's 📹 and loved them all. We have such a Facination with the South 🏝 Pacific and we look forward to following your Journey ⛵ with much Envey Cheers Mick & Nikki 🇦🇺
Welcome aboard, Mick and Nikki! We’re also fascinated with this little corner of the world😍 Thanks for following along, cheers guys! 😊
Awesome
Such a beautiful place!
Gosh I sure love this view from the deck. I can almost feel the swell.
The perfect, gentle rocking 😍
Do you have a link to the touchscreen that you are running at the NavDesk please? Thanks!
It’s the Beetronics 19 inch metal! They’ve raised the price since we purchased🙄
@@HollyandRay Thank you so much!
@TheAaronAndShara no problem! Thanks for watching :)
Seems wind direction is not low-pass filtered in software, showing every value on screen, making the UI unpleasant to look at and less meaningful. Are there options in OpenCPN to fix this?
Yes, you can apply dampening!
@@HollyandRay That's good! Thanks for letting me know.
No problem! :)
Shark tooth? It sure looks like one to me. I vote yes.
Aw, man! It looked kind of porous so I decided it was coral and left it on the beach!! 😩
Wow another great video. Happy birthday. Love how excited you guys get when the sails go up.
Thank you! Sails up and engines off = guaranteed smiling crew!
lovely Holly. love watching you guys.
Thank you! ❤️
Is that Sailing Parlay in the background at 7:34?
I have no idea! Our videos are in real time, not sure what part of the world they were in while we were here…
Very nice, thank you so much for your shared videos and I wish you fair winds and all the good!
Thank you! Sending you some good right back! ☺️
What are bommies?
Large columns of coral! Some of them sit just a few inches below the waterline- we dont want to run into one😅 They can do serious damage to our boat.
Where was this? Amazing shot.
Thank you❤️ this is in the Tuamotu Islands, French Polynesia!
@@HollyandRay stunning. Enjoy!
