A developmental delay is when a child is not reaching the expected developmental milestones. For example, the CDC states that children, by 18 months of age, should be saying 3 or more words. If they are not, they may be developmentally delayed.
Dr. Michaud discusses with us her research related to infant developmental milestones such as cooing. In her research, she looks for this interaction starting as early as one to two months old. When cooing is absent, it can be an early sign of developmental delays or autism.
A study by Mays and Zikgraf in 2019 found that atypical eating behaviors, such as severely limited food preferences and refusal of different textured foods, occur in about 70% of children with autism-15 times more frequently than in typically developing children.

I just have a 3 year old with a mix of language receptive expesive disorder. Seems no one knows if he has autism or other. He hand leads, doesn't respond to his name. Doesn't pay attention to what others are doing. Doesn't share. Loves numbers or letters because he can organize them. Doesn't play with other toys. He knows his abc and numbers. He just stated saying all done this week for no. Starting saying lets go if he wants to take you somewhere (hand lead) if he doesn't want you around. Then just runs away.
