Just because he chooses to elevate the project with other tools doesn’t mean you can’t do it with the 3 tools, as well as he had to size rough lumber which takes specialty tools that you wouldn’t need. Don’t let people having access to more tools then you make you think it’s not a beginner project
i guess i am a carpenter in my past life because i am always inspired to do one like the ones you always build, i just don't have the tools because they are very costly here in my place... you got one subbie here in the Philppines... keep doing videos like this... two thumbs up!
Better to buy already made shelfs ...and just hang them coz this is easy when u have the tools for free right ..it might cost u a little more but saves u alot of hassle
Thank you for explaining how to make them with hand power tools like a Circular Saw and the type of wood to buy that's already has a straight edge. I have a Circular saw, router, drill, sander, and a pocket jig. I love to see someone like yourself make a video with these types of tools. I've also have been looking at Craigslist for used tools. Thank you again, and everyone else reading this, don't get discouraged. If you're serious about wood working, take a loan to buy the tools you need. At that point you jump right in to a serious business, and have to push yourself to succeed. You wear all hats in the business. I did this with screen printing and had to learn to sell. Started with friends, family and church.
I lucky, I have woodshop at my school and we are doing custom projects and the school provides everything! So I'm definitely going to be making some of these
It’s not about the “expensive tools” it’s being creative, doing a craft you enjoy and have a passion for. These excuses of not having his equipment is lame. Yes, those tools make the job 4x fast and better but this can be done with simple tools as well. All you need is the courage to get started.
I'm expecting the equipment used woodsaw hammer drill (cheap drill is available) but still i like the video can still explain the basic of making this shelves you just have to adapt it on your available tools
great, simple project. projects like this keep encouraging me to take the plunge on investing in a planer. Working with rough lumber looks really rewarding
It is super rewarding, definitely a major turning point in the woodworking experience. Even an inexpensive planer is well worth the investment. That, paired with a table saw, will allow you to build almost anything.
Rockler is the BEST supplier of accessories for any woodworker! And since I'm talking about Rockler this is a good time to mention that they do offer some surfaced wood online. I'm not in any way affiliated with Rockler, I just love their stuff. Anyway, I haven't had much time to watch your videos lately, but I finally found a minute and I'm glad I did because this is a great quick weekend project idea! Thanks again for such great videos!
Dude... You're a genius. You just taught me at least 3 game changing techniques. Sanding dowels with a drill, using a speed square with a circular saw, and of course the method of making floating shelves without expensive hardware. Thank you! Awesome work! 2:15
Great video Johnny. I made my own floating box shelves out of recycled timber and they look fantastic - very strong too. Cheers Nick, Darwin Australia.
This is so awesome!!! I just found your channel, I’ve never held a power tool but now I’m so curious. My husband and I are on the hunt for our first house and I’m going to have to invest in some tools to start my own DIY projects. So inspirational!!!! 5:48
Man I love how you explain a simple and cost sensitive way of doing the same job in the beginning! Most people think there is only one way to do a job, thanks for giving some perspective - Awesome job on the rough lumber version too! Takes a pro to use pro tools.
I’ve used those support bracket, except, I trace the mounting bracket on the drywall, used a multi-tool and cut out the drywall “plug”, mounted the support directly to the stud. Not only is it stronger, but, the shelf will fit perfectly flush against the wall and not stick out a bit due to the shelf sitting against the square mount instead of against the wall
Those came out nice. Though I would of loved to see some dovetail or even finger joinery as it would of really set them off. Even just 45% them and spline them would look good. Especially if you put bubinga wood splines on the maple and vs versa. Not knocking what you have done. I am just a sucker for joinery work. It makes things like this pop even more as that end grain always stands out. But again nice build.
The mounting brackets don't let the shelf fit tight to the wall. I've built floating shelves years ago for my sister's football knick knacks using 1x6's and just screwed them to the wall (@ the studs) using finish screws. The shelves are still "floating" to this day. It's been about 10 years.
My first thought too. With all those tools, he could have chiseled a recess for the bracket so the shelf would fit against the wall (and hide the hardware).
Another great build. Question... Did your chisel out a section for the small rectangle portion of the hanging hardware so the shelf is snug on the wall?
I love that you specifically mention only needing 3 basic tools, then use about 20 specialty tools and jigs....
Absolutely right, it's not a fair game for beginners
Yup
I was thinking the exact same thing. This isn’t a beginner video by any means.
Just because he chooses to elevate the project with other tools doesn’t mean you can’t do it with the 3 tools, as well as he had to size rough lumber which takes specialty tools that you wouldn’t need. Don’t let people having access to more tools then you make you think it’s not a beginner project
@@Fisher.armstrong I think we can buy sized lumber from lumber shop.
This was the most aesthetically pleasing build I think I have ever seen. So simple but SOOOO satisfying.
It's good to see the woodprx has new Instructions to save my money and energy to build it.

@@beliajkrouinc21 Pure awesomeness to me!

my girlfriends dad told me about WoodVan.xyz he was showing me few plans in there for a new deck, they had tons of projects

It would be cool to see a wall covered in those especially if they were all made of varying woods
Yup, that's what my eye doctor has on their wall, that's where I got this idea!
Great ... Thank you for what you teach us...
Amazing! I like the blind shelf support post method. Thank you for sharing.
wow i didn't think woodwork can be cool, but this is actually very productive.

Great ! Should I also buy all those machines ?:)
I love it.
Nowadays, I'm thinking about doing it as hobbie I just need some stuffs from the store then I'll get on it.

This should be rename as diy if you have a woodshop
diy creators is more enjoyable, simple and shows products from cheaper things
Glen has expensive stuff also.

Dude is beautiful and talented with 692 jealous people giving a thumbs down!

I have made dowel holes with a jig its hard but works in a pinch
pretty nice, easy and simple!!
+Octavio Garcia thanks!
Great video and great way!
Thanks!
Good project
Another great build. Question... Did your chisel out a section for the small rectangle portion of the hanging hardware so the shelf is snug on the wall?
+BronkBuilt thanks! And no, totally forgot to do that. Doesn't make a huge difference but that would definitely be a nice touch.
