Awesome book that gives you step-by-step photos ruclips.net/user/postUgkxTNB_zFBSnTo_O1PqfVUwgi7ityw0JlKt and directions to make every day project. I can see myself making a few of these projects and giving them as housewarming and holiday gifts!
Also, if you allow me a suggestion that I regret not having done this on mine as well, put a LED string on the upper side of the top shelf as well.. as you could see in the last pic at the end when you turn off all the lights and just turn on the shelving lights, the upper side of top shelf is dark. But as always, great execution and awesome craft, Alex. You are the best
Looks great!! You could have just plugged the driver into the outlet and hid it under the desk and only ran the low voltage wire up the wall to the shelves. Would have made the install a little easier! You can get LEDs with a wireless rf dimmer remote and mount the holder to wall. Next time 😉
After studying your videos and calculating our space where we want floating shelves...We are going to attempt at your floating shelves this month- you make it look easy! Thank you so much for the links also... wish us luck!
I have a question about the wiring for the LED. Did you daisy chain them inside the wall with the leads coming through the shelf support? I watched a few times hoping to see a camera angle that showed how you hid the wires.
You can daisy chain them or run each one back to the transformer. It makes no difference one way or the other. Just if you daisy chain them make sure your wire is rated for the full amperage of all the lights. Your lights will have a watt/foot rating and match your wire to the watts. Wire is in measured in amps. So take the watts of the lights and divide the volts of the lights and it will give you the amps of your lights.
Can you please do a video where you show exact measurements of the floating shelves and also how you made the router cuts. I'm having a difficult time making the side miter cuts line up. It's either to long or to wide.
Super cool build 👏 Question: what was your reason to put the led strip closer to the wall vs closer to the lip 0f the shelf? I’ve seen them done both ways and am trying to figure out what would be best for my project. TIA 🙏
All the comments were making me think it was gonna look bad when he was done but it looks amazing! You see the strip of lights but they still look amazing!
Honestly i think the shelves turned out beautiful and i'm with you you can hide it behind something it's all the way up there and again trying not to burn down a house
I like that you aren’t afraid to say you made a mistake, show it, and then correct it. Some RUclipsrs are so fake and will not share that. You kept it real the whole video. Good work!
It would have been nice if you did a close up and more in depth explanation of what you meant with the visuals of your measurements when explaining the 45 degree miter. Like what did you mean by adding 3/4 length or subtracting 3/4 length?
I did this exact project over my wife's craft desk a few years ago, except I routed a channel for the LED's so they didn't go all the way to the ends. I also used plexiglass that I sanded as the diffuser, which allowed it to pick up some of the gray stain and blend in. She thought it was ridiculous until she turned them on. I should have had the camera rolling to catch her telling me I was right, then maybe I could get away with a few more things in my projects haha.
Man I love you videos! As a first home buyer last year I have been using your videos as a staple for inspiration and ideas to make my house a home! Thnx 🤘🏾👹 keep up the great builds, looking forward to the next video!
I wouldn't say edgebanding the face of the floating shelves is beginner to intermediate. I would say it's quicker, easier and smarter in my opinion. I've done this method many times and works great and seamless. Anyways nice work👍
Off topic, but I’m trying to add a bedroom upstairs in the game room, would I just frame it on top of a cross beam and nail it into that or is there another way? please leave me some tips
Looks great, but you need a led strip on the top of the top shelf to keep the lights consistent. The back wall of the top shelf would be lighted like the rest.
Suggestion on the fish tape: Cut a piece about 8 feet long and bend the fresh cut end around to match the other. This way when you have the small projects, your not messing with 50 feet roll.
I just recently found your channel and I love the builds. I think the power brick on top is fine. Like you said haters will hate. I do think it would have been really cool to do a double light for the top shelf so the top was lit up as well. Maybe a future mod.
That was my thought as well. It would take this beautiful job up another level. It would kinda mess with the location of the driver, but it would balance out the light in the room. I think that, if I were to do it, I would probably run the lights at the front of the shelves, but running the dado at a 45° to the wall so as to Illuminate the front of the trinkets instead of the wall behind the stuff. I'm not hating, just mentioning what I would do differently in case anyone else needed ideas. These shelves, and this build itself, are awesome.
I’m not a mathematician but I went all the way through to Trigonometry. I’m not a dumb person! With that said, why on God’s green earth can I NEVER cut/measure miter ends correctly 😢 It doesn’t matter if I triple check, once the cuts are finished there are always a couple that are off and I have a gap. 😩
looks great! I think if I were to do it in my home I would put the lights on the top of the shelf so they're hidden from view and every shelf is illuminated.
1. Never solder above expensive stuff you might care about. In this case it's just a Mac. 2. Could have added a light above too. Maybe flip the shelves, and add an extra one downwards on the edge far away from the wall. This way it would light before the screen, and use it as a desk / keyboard light. A butt joint and some extra material would help to channel the light just on the desk, and not directly in your eyes. Architectural theory says to avoid reflections in the desk as well. A white desk will reflect a lot of light. 3. Switches. Could come in handy to have individual lights, especially if you apply #2.

Or just turn all 3 shelves upside down?
Looks great, but I would have also added lights on top of the top shelf to add some glow to those plants as well.
Thanks!
This channel and Drew Build’s Stuff have hands down the best DIY content. Another great video as always!

how did it go?
Love the mitre hood!
Honestly, I like your RYOBI shop. Proof to all that "price of tools" doesn't equal skill in the shop. Thanks for this video.
Loved the way you made it Brother. Genius at work. Great JOB ! :)

Beautiful job. only recomendation is to add leds to the top of the uppershelf
Super cool build 👏

Wow they look great! I’m thinking I would have satin polyurethane the shelves
Looks amazing
Great work
Great project!
I want this in my pantry so bad!
how much weight could I put on a floating shelf like this?? I need Corner floating shelves for my books
MAESTRO.. Bendiciones...
I used those diffusers on light strips outside and a rubber mallet works great getting those covers on. Nice shelves!
Wow looks great!!!!!!
How thick is the material you are using in this video is it half inch or three-quarter inch and is that a maple grain to that plywood
Eres un artista.👏👏👏👏👏.
how did u connect the dimmer switch?
Can I use this design for floating book shelves? Will it support that kind of weight?
That looks amazing! Nice work Mr. Build It!
Great video.. shelves look great with lights but I was trying to figure out how you hid the 18/2 wire on the right side for each shelf.
are splines unnecessary for joining the mitered boards?
Love this.. any chance you can upload this to your site and get the plans...lol!
Is that half or 3/4 inch plywood?
You shouldn’t have route the channel for LEDs all the way through the shelf. You could have stopped 1/2” before the and and no caps would be needed.😉
My wife and I play a game with his videos.... Finding all the "easter eggs" of things we would never allow.
@@MrPhilGainer hope its not a drinking game....you would get wasted.
exposed leds look terrible, that’s a good way to be lazy…
All the comments were making me think it was gonna look bad when he was done but it looks amazing! You see the strip of lights but they still look amazing!
Are the plans for this for sale anywhere?
Nice job and thank you for going with long mitres! Looks great with the bright, warm glow of the leds
What size do u cut your boards to
Honestly i think the shelves turned out beautiful and i'm with you you can hide it behind something it's all the way up there and again trying not to burn down a house

i agree
This dude is killin the game. Great work Alex
What are the finished dimensions of the shelves?
It would have been nice if you did a close up and more in depth explanation of what you meant with the visuals of your measurements when explaining the 45 degree miter. Like what did you mean by adding 3/4 length or subtracting 3/4 length?
Very nice
Where did you get the wall Mount video light for video calls and such? Would love one for my office when I make yt videos!

見かけによらずセンス良すぎ
Too Good
Looks nice 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰.
Those LEDs really made this a notch above the rest. Great Job!
Nice.. Suggestion.. adding another strip to the top face of the top shelf ...
very nicely done. great install and good selection on the LED strip
Great Job!!

I've always wanted some floating shelves to show off my giant wooden chain links.
love it!
Rock Star... :)
did you consider putting another strip of lights at the top - back of the top shelf? so that top shelf isn't so dark with the others well lit?
New viewer here. What battery operated tool brand do you recommend? haha
Great job. And you are ready to steal Irina's job as Chief Decorating Officer!
MOVE THE COMPUTER ! So much dust just went into that one xD
This is glorious. Great work!
Wonderful job
How many hours did this take?
No links??
Did you use a dado stack to make the channel for the diffuser? Great video BTW
yes he did
Looks great, but you need a led strip on the top of the top shelf to keep the lights consistent. The back wall of the top shelf would be lighted like the rest.
AWESOME, should channel in an LED strip on the top of the top shelf to light up the items on the top shelf......
Just finished watching and I thought the same thing.
I thought the same thing
Damn! That’s good
Suggestion on the fish tape: Cut a piece about 8 feet long and bend the fresh cut end around to match the other. This way when you have the small projects, your not messing with 50 feet roll.
By far one of my favorite builders to learn from. Went to website and didn’t see the new merch when is it going to be on there? I need both!
What kind of wood is that?
Ah perfect timing! My wife has been wanting to do floating shelves for awhile and I always wanted to install light in them!
that's awesome
Same here 😆
great job looks great !! thanks for the vid... now come wire my house? lol
Quick question, what sanding paper do you recommend for wood?
Damn bro you’re the real deal
what shirt you rocking in this?
Code Inspector has entered the chat...
Great vid, what brand sander is your go to for projects?
Maybe flip them over so the lights shine upward and the top shelf gets illuminated? Seems like the better aesthetic overall.
Love your videos man, when you add all the numbers at the end, I always wonder how many hours it took!
Very nice,,but next time I bet you use a router to cut you light channel to hide the ends, that would drive me nuts.
You should check out rubio monocoat for your finishes. I think you'd like them
Wish you showed the wiring more in depth like a how to
I never knew that i needed to watch randy orton making shelves, but here I am, hitting the like button.
When you plan stuff out your videos and work are amazing.
I think your channel makes every man jealous

These shelves, and this build itself, are awesome.
Most of the time, when the wire isn't color coded, one side will have some ribs, and the other half will be smooth - might help in the future!
Now flip them over so the LEDs are on the top and you get a nice ambient reflected light.
Definitely should put one channel on the top, shelf that points upward
Great build! Add a wireless charger inside the bottom shelf.
how did you fish the led wire through the wall? i guess i don't understand lol
Is there any wisdom to making the miter slightly more aggressive ( like 46 degrees ) so you can get the two ends to meet up with zero gaps?
I’m not a mathematician but I went all the way through to Trigonometry. I’m not a dumb person! With that said, why on God’s green earth can I NEVER cut/measure miter ends correctly 😢 It doesn’t matter if I triple check, once the cuts are finished there are always a couple that are off and I have a gap. 😩

Nice build! How much would you sell those for if you were building to sell?
