  • On Saturday, September 9th, and Sunday, September 10th, 2022, I drove north from Toronto to again hike the Highlands Backpacking Trail in Algonquin Park. This is my second time doing this trail, although I took a bit of a different route this time. The weather was perfect, the vistas spectacular, and, except for the annoyance of trash and air pollution, it was nevertheless a wonderful and peaceful experience. I just love backpacking so much. I hope you enjoy this video!

This is the second time I've watched this video since you first posted it and I feel I have a new appreciation for your anger and frustration with those who don't understand the concept of Leave No Trace. Thank you for packing that stuff out.

Me and my family have done this trail twice now, it really is an amazing trail, the litter is bad but there are some really great scenes

I didn’t find a lot of litter in the regular sense; no wrappers on trail, for example. But the large items left behind at campsites is pretty disappointing. Anyhoo. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Another great hike and camp Christina. And it is okay to complain about what careless fools do to our nature areas and forests. Anyone who actually cares about them should feel they have a right to complain when they see the damage that careless people are doing to these areas. I think that we can all agree that the world needs these areas to be sustained for future populations to be able to enjoy what we are now enjoying. Thank you for always going above and beyond to do your part in keeping these areas clean and enjoyable. It should inspire each and everyone of us to do the same. And thank you for allowing us to join you on another beautiful adventure. See you on the next one and stay happy and healthy.

Yeah, we don't build our life on the opinions of others and likewise don't let the behaviour of others affect our enjoyment... I wish! It was kind of interesting to see the items left behind. I hope you get to spend more of your free time doing this sort of thing. Anywhoooo...

I feel you in this video. You've hiked 15+km into Algonquin back country, one would think you could expect clean/beautiful nature as well as peace & quiet. And then...you got crap everywhere & noisy neighbours. I'd be frustrated too! I hope you were still able to enjoy it somewhat! Also hope your book launch went well 😀 I would have loved to come but I don't handle Toronto too well these days 😆. Take care Christina! - Sharon

Hello, Aw Ja! Yes, I first saw this style in France, and bought one for the novelty of it; had never seen a can opener like that before. This one was made of very thick metal and would last a lifetime. But I couldn’t figure out how to use it/it was “too hard” compared to a regular can opener. Now that I “get it” and am a “big girl now” 🤣😁💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼 I can’t find it! Anyhoo. Thanks for your lovely comment, Sir Aw Ja. 😊🙏🏼💛✌🏼

My oldest child gave me the term "Trasher" when he was about 4. It has become a most common refrain for our family ever since! We are always sad to see their trails, but you need never apologize for calling out what you find. My kids are with you too! Keep hiking without a trace! Cheers!
