Be interesting to see what happens if you tee the ball lower with the cobra. Like you said it seems to like lower strikes and I find this with my own f9 if I hit on almost thin it still rockets up there where before you wouldn't have a chance of that distance with my m2
I'd be interested to see a test on a lower lofted head in the Cobra. If I understand correctly they didn't bring out a "plus" model but rather had the lower lofted heads geared more towards lower spin. The variance does worry me a bit but Mark's were relatively stable and Dan admitted to having trouble finding the middle. Just a thought
Cobra definitely knows how to "jazz the funk" Mark!! Not sure how y'all could prefer the look of the Ping, but you Brits do get used to the dull grey of an 8 month winter don't you? ;-)
we're not all dull, I've got an orange cobra fly-z! ha ha. I think that ping is hideous and it looks cheap and tacky, as do most of their clubs. The woods are normally ok, the 400 range i thought were nice, but they've gone way off-piste with the 410.
@@MakinComputers haha good on ya! That's BOLD!! Don't think I could handle the big orange but I do like to use bright, near-neon yellow NXTs!! After all, I am an American who can't resist bright, shiny objects!! Although I've never been an early adopter. However, I can say, if you want understated elegance and precision performance, I would highly recommend anyone to check out the Ft. Worth Blacks by Hogan, so sweet and I've legit added 10 yards on my irons. Of course some of that is probably the weightier shaft and lower COG on these iron faces. They claim they are the normal standard gapping; IOW no TM games being played on the lofting for the 7 thru W. ;-) I might have to check out some of the Ping drivers prior to the 410. I'm old school, but I hate matte finish grey / nardo as we call it in the States I think. Or is that universal? Cheers!
Just changed from a Ping G30 I have used for several years, to the 410. The straightline, forgiveness level is much better...and a few yards further. Well done Ping!
Great vid guys as always. Just got fitted F9, Black and White with a shortened shaft and now have the confidence I do with a hybrid in my hand. Love it.
The g410 is a good bit of kit. I spent numerous hrs testing the g410,epic flash and f9 against my XR speed. The ping won on dispersion left and right and also on constant numbers. The flash for me was longest but like the f9 inconsistency and drop off on bad hits took them out the equation.
I’ve been using the Cobra F8 driver for a while now, and must admit when I started teeing the ball lower (and therefore I assume lower my strike on the face) I’m definitely seeing better performance in terms of distance and ball flight.
Re Mark’s comment about feeling like Ping wasn’t setup equivalently to Cobra because it did not have a moveable weight at the front: is it possible that Ping manufacturers it with weight there already, to keep the spin down such that there is no need to move a weight there?
Had a cobra fitting at the local on Monday and I have to say I found the same results as you guys did. Even though I’m a 14 handicap golfer... the cobra just naturally seemed to hit high on the face but when I did get them out the bottom a bit more the distance was really noticeable! 15-20 yards on some shots. As in good shot on top of the face compared to one from the bottom. Might go test the ping I think! And a few others
The ping has to be one of the best and most underrated drivers on the market just because it is not callaway or Taylor made money gets overlooked by a lot of people, my only criticism is I don’t see the point in having the sft version now that the weight is movable.
Not Surprised with the results. Intested each of those and other new drivers. I was getting faster club head on the F9 but if you hit out of the center, you get a drop off on yrds. For distance and consistent I found the Epic Flash to perform best.
So Dan is #263 (at least with the Ping) In fairness every Cobra driver I tested always span up a little too much for me. Gave me very straight shots but short. I think it is a design philosophy for them
I have a Cally sub-zero. If I put the weight forward I struggle to hit the ball. Is it just me or does moving the CG forward affect ability to find middle for some?
Have you tried different heads in the Cobra? I’ve noticed I get MORE distance and consistent spin drop with high toe strikes on my F9... (trackman numbers). The Cobra matte finish model looks great!
Really like the ping woods these days. The hybrids, fairway and driver are all great looking feeling and performing. Man I wish they would do something more in the iron game. The iBlade was the last one I liked and the newer ones just dont do it for me. Would love to see an iBlade 2 or something along that line from Ping.
Has Lockey hit the F9? Perhaps you have to be a monster to unleash its' potential :) A couple weeks ago I took it out for a Desert Southwest golf trip and had the best driving week I've had in years. It's firmly in the bag for this year, er, Spring. It's the Matte finish. Perhaps they made the matte finish better than the glossy yellow ;)
Mark, I could be wrong, but I seem to recall a video where you mentioned that the “sweet spot” of the golf club is dynamic rather than static. Any chance you could elaborate on this idea or simply point me back to that video? Cheers brah and as always #getupdan
Could you do a G410 vs G400 LST? Lots of reviews are saying that the G410 is near the LST in spin but with more forgiveness. Just would like to see your opinions.
Its interesting how some aren't having these issues with the f9, and some are.. Shields smashed it, and I know TXG is getting huge #s with it also. Infact watched TXG hit high toe for for like 320 carry with low spin.
Hearty Load I’ve been thinking this the whole time. Rick and Matt are our here smashing the F9 and swear by it and Mark is over here, not doing that. Just goes to show that fitting a driver that works best for you, and not just basing it off someone else is always the answer.
I have an issue with this Mark and Dan. You talk at the start about having the correct fitted club to test against each other which is great. YET, you are using a low launch low spin shaft in the Ping and a mid spin and mid launch shaft in the cobra. From the numbers it appears that the cobra isn't correctly fitted to you. Obviously this doesn't address the other 'issues' of looks, feel and to some extent the 'drop offs' you talk about, and we all know how potentially how little impact shafts make but if you could get a shaft that would get similar numbers and the matte head in the cobra it may have been a different result. I also appreciate that it is not always possible to get the perfect fitting in every club to test with! Love the video and keep up the good work.
Hard telling. Dan was longer with the Ping but more offline. Mark was fairly consistent with distance between both clubs but more offline with the Cobra.
I think the guys who are banging it 285+ are getting better performance from the Cobra. Is there anything to that? I like Ping but I prefer the previous driver looks and feel wise.
Good video post guys, I agree that I was surprised that the Ping had such low spin rates with both of you. Plus I'm surprised Coach did not get a shot at both of the drivers after he walked in, sooooooooooooo.
as people say different days same club different numbers , F9 here average 260 carry , Dec 16 2019 average carry 270 , All of today's drivers are pretty close to each other in distance , swing whatever feels good to you . try a bunch of them .
The ping I find rather ugly, Its a Klingon on a stick. The F9 PRETTY. Isn't it true that most amateurs hit low on the clubface, especially when trying to hit up on the ball? And therefore a strategic move from Cobra to accomodate for that with a little more emphasis towards the low end of the club, so especially the low strikes have a bit of extra uhmpf?
Would like to see you hit the matt white version of the F9, which I think has a slightly higher standard loft then the yellow, to see if you get the same drop off from your sweet spot hits. Why, because that's where I like hitting it on the face as well.
@markcrossfield - After watching many of your videos and understanding the 262 reference, as well as reading the recent myspygolf test of the Superspeed sticks, I believe you'd be a prime candidate to use/test them and post a review! I'd love to see it.
Please test PING G410 Plus Driver 9° with ALL shaft options in "S"; Alta, Tour, Tensei, Even Flow. It will be interesting how different the results are. Maybe 1 yard...:-)???
My Ping G30 LST is still going strong... Love Ping drivers, though I've hit the Cobra and love the sound... Wish I could have that in a Ping... black it out and matte it out like Batman colors... Kind of like a PXG... Love a good ole fashioned compare!!! #262
The white one is matt finish on top?!?? F9 seems to favor a lowish heel strike for good nmbrs.. that's right in my wheelhouse for my blistering 100 mph "swing" haha
The weight at the front of the Cobra does not suit your swing Mark I think, hence you get drop offs. Its a shame you dont do full fittings for each of the clubs and spend that time getting the club performing at optimum based on a fitter getting the best numbers out of you (hopefully without getting those bad shots)
Over 20 testers & here are their results comparing the 410 Ping & the F9 Cobra: Ping, launch ang 13.86, spin 2561, apex 27.60, decent 36.03, carry 222.29, total 239.49 & Cobra, la 13.79, sp 2524, apx 28.75, dec 36.78, carr 220.39, tot 237.56... They used low/high handicap testers; I don’t see the larger differences you guys are seeing between these clubs - the spin of the Cobra is 37 revs lower than the Ping & Ping carries a tad under 2yds longer than the Cobra...
A mark crossfield cobra f9 video, a minute in and I'm sat here with popcorn ready for the angry comments as you give hate to the 2019 peoples driver 😳😳
I’m a Ping fan, I use G10 hybrids(they work!) i210 irons and stealth wedges! I HATE the G410 woods and hybrids, just cannot get them to work! No issues with F9, Epic Flash or Taylor Made! TS3 was right up there with Epic Flash as a great driver, need to get fitted now!
OK, so here is another piece of brilliance. Always view a number of reviews, because not every driver will suit a reviewer. Reviewers rarely have a club optimized for them as they review what is sent them, so it can be expected that evaluations will differ not only from swing mechanics, but from the club itself. Then one tries to glean some threads of commonality from the different reviews to get an average overall picture. Then go swing the club yourself. Personally, I believe all the main manufacturers have excellent drivers, but some may suit your swing better. That said, if I had to pick one driver for 2019 that seems to have had the greatest preponderance for good reviewer results, it would be the Ping G410 line. And there you have it. HAHAHA.
What about side spin though? My Cobra F8 fairway wood does tend to flight low and the bad miss is a horrible low hook. But I haven't been able to tweak it yet with a wrench (not included for $250!!?). Were your dispersion patterns better with one over the other? I reckon the Ping was pretty consistently straight to get such consistent spin, carry and roll-out numbers?
Y’all don’t like the shiny top on the driver. But you both game the shiniest ones they make. What’s wrong with that picture

Ping driver is a very good club but when one is bias to start with then one becomes subjective rather than objective. Both drivers are awesome and both need customisation. This review is not a proper test. The Cobra has more options 're settings and I think Mark and Dan are now embedded in bias.
Hey Mark, How often do you think you would change drivers if you had to pay retail? Right now I'm gaming the Titleist 913 and am still hitting it pretty good. But I was maybe looking to get a new one this spring. I just think I could get more out of my top end shots even if the average numbers wouldn't change all that much. But then again those 500+ price tags are keeping me away
I play a rogue subzero, and just got a white f9 for 310 niw on Ebay. I'm gonna try both and see where it falls, but cobra is so easy to find cheap even in the same year. My rogue sz was 500, so I'm really curious how this shakes out.
The white version of the F9 driver has a matte finish on top, since you both like the matte on the Ping.
Be interesting to see what happens if you tee the ball lower with the cobra. Like you said it seems to like lower strikes and I find this with my own f9 if I hit on almost thin it still rockets up there where before you wouldn't have a chance of that distance with my m2
I have never been a guy that cared about having a bag of mixed brands but I could be happy with a bag of Ping clubs.
I really have to tee my F9 down compared to the TM M1 that I used to game, it’s definitely got a sweet spot that’s lower in the face
I'd be interested to see a test on a lower lofted head in the Cobra. If I understand correctly they didn't bring out a "plus" model but rather had the lower lofted heads geared more towards lower spin. Just changed from a Ping G30 I have used for several years, to the 410. The straightline, forgiveness level is much better...and a few yards further. Well done Ping!
I cannot believe the ping g 410 cost a thousand dollars in my country of New Zealand. Insane!
WHAT A BATTLE !!!!!! I agree . Set them both at their best.
Maby u should be using a lower tee for the cobra , i changed from m4 to m6 but had to use a lower tee on the test to gain the 7 yards extra
unable to find a the matte finish on the Cobra F9, would love to see a picture of it
