Shadow teleports inside the ARK and meets the G.U.N. Commander, who is about to avenge Maria. Shadow is astonished and is then told by the G.U.N. Commander how Shadow was created. Afterwards, the G.U.N. Commander shoots at Shadow, but Shadow avoids the attack and stands right behind the G.U.N. Commander. The G.U.N. Commander then ask Shadow if he really doesn't remember anything from the past. Shadow tells him that he's going to find the real truth and then walks away. As Shadow makes his leave, the G.U.N. Commander fall down on his knees.

wow I liked Shadow in this scene he felt so genuine here, he was willing to accept his fate if he was responsible for the destruction that happened on the Ark
i like how the commander is scared of shadow, but Black Doom, a floating horned thing its like a regular thing to him

I’m willing to bet this was a translation error since the SA era was filled with them but I can’t even imagine how confused the VAs must’ve been when they recorded these
At 0:48 the gun commander said Maria was the only family he knew, but later he says "It's not just about Maria, everyone I knew was killed when the ark was destroyed! Worst of all my family!" You just said Maria was your only family though... I never understood that while playing and I still don't.
WhiteFlame what the commander is basically saying is that shadow killed maria and his friends but when it was the gun that was responsible for this "COMMANDER YOU ARE DUMB YOU JUST JOIN THE GUN BECAUSE YOU WANTED REVENGE ON SHADOW BUT IT WAS OTHER PEOPLE" if anybody disagrees with me then let me know.
WhiteFlame The GUN Commander is a huge delusional jerk Shadow had nothing to do with Maria's death or everyone's death on the Ark what's he's trying to do to Shadow is unjustified it was GUN who murdered everyone on the Ark including Maria not Shadow.

But you also have to remember the Gun Commander had no idea that it wasn't really Shadow's fault.

Huh, it’s almost as if he’s shocked that Shadow a guy with super speed is faster than a speeding bullet.
As cheesy as this game is, I think how is Shadow acted that cut scene actually wasn’t that bad.
He honestly can’t remember what happened on the ark and says that if it turns out he is responsible for Maria’s Death, he will willingly face justice. But before that happens he wants to try and do some good.
That’s a Shadow I wish he was throughout the entire game. Someone who isn’t sure who he is or what he’s done but he’s just trying to do the right thing in the moment.
Maria’s death was not down to Shadow. She was fatally shot by when G.U.N. raided the ark.

Not sure if anyone’s caught this yet, but if you pause at 0:28 you can see one of the giants drills that chased Dr. Eggman at the end of Cosmic Wall in SA2 behind Shadow

I find it funny that the G.U.N. Commander had grey hair as a kid. It reminds me of Lincoln Loud from The Loud House.
Maybe Chris Savino took inspiration from the game to create his protagonist.
He must've meant the he was the closest with Maria on the ARK, in addition to his family. When he says "my family", he could be referring to Maria and his blood family too. If anything, don't read too much into it.
It's never explained how he survived the Ark raid.
I THINK that can be explained. I’m SA2 Gerald said he saw Maria’s name on the list of the ones killed in the raid and never said that everyone died. That sort of implies that there were survivors
"Because of you!" The commander immaturely blames Shadow for the actions of his creators - you CANNOT blame the son for the actions of his father - and even worked his way up the ranks of the corrupt organisation that commissioned him as a genetic weapon and killed everybody on the ARK to cover it up. Up until Sonic Adventure 2 - which happened a few days, maybe a week previous to this game - he had Shadow in stasis, where he could easily have been destroyed at any point, but instead Eggman stole Shadow.

Yeah, I got super heated trying to figure that out. Like, his own solders killed Maria. Yet he's blaming Shadow for Maria's death? 🤨
@@tantheman0921 Maria’s death happened 50 years ago during these events, the G.U.N Commander was a kid and Maria’s childhood Friend
dude the commander was a kid when it happen how his mans are the responsable for that? everybody responsable and in that operation is dead when this happen because it was 50 years before this game that this happen!

they lied to him, they say that shadow was the one who destroyed ark, they don't say that was gun and the united federation goverment who does it
and to be honest gun was just following orders, orders that was send because of shadow and gerald robotnick, so they are not really responsible for that
I think that this level would be absolutely astonishing if it was as fast paced as the music suggests. Rapidly racing along falling debris would be amazing!
