15 UPCOMING Hack And Slash Games of 2023 And Beyond

- Hack-and-slash games were some of the most popular during the sixth and seventh generations of consoles, which gave us classics of the genre including but not limited to the Onimusha series, Metal Gear Rising and many more. This genre is obviously not as popular in the current gaming landscape, but there are plenty of developers working hard to express their love for hack-and-slash games with interesting projects that have the potential to be something truly great.
2023 and beyond will see the release of highly anticipated games like Marvel’s Wolverine and Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2. This feature will run down 15 such hack and slash games that are looking really promising.

Glad to see some up and coming Hack and Slash games showing the old over-the-top, high octane gameplay and not everything being strictly Soulslike.
This might just be me but I think that a hack n slash can never be a true soulslike
@@mrpotoo3772That’s kind of the weird thing about modern gaming now. It’s all a blend yk? Like the stealth genre. There’s MGS and Splinter cell. But now you can just throw in a crouch button and boom it has potential for a “stealth” game. HnS is kind of similar. Focused more on a mechanic than a genre. So is the soulsborne series (sekiro and elden ring included) hack and slash? Yes. But not remotely as pure as like DMC. Though I will say Sekiro is the most pure of all of em

@@speedb.bernard5404 Not really. Souls like derived from hack and slash. You have a weapon. Weapon has unique skill set, when you attack an enemy, it staggers leading to combo potential. Proceed to moving through any degree of level design until you get to the boss. Dodge boss attacks until you learn move set and attack during the opening.
You know what two franchises have that in common? DMC and the soulsborne series. The fundamental game design difference is just the why. Dmc took the combos, the actual hack and slash and turned it up to 10. Hence it’s considered a purer form of hack and slash. Whilst Dark souls, be it doing a similar thing. Watered it down and focused on atmospherics and move set difficulty. Refining that until they got the iconic “dark souls” game design. That’s all to say, they have overlap. There’s a blend of mechanics that both have. I figured this would be obvious.
I thought Black Myth Wukong was releasing for Xbox Series X as well….not just PC?
Lies of P isn't a hack and slash. it's a soulsborne game. same with Rise of the Ronin according to the info so far.
just coz you swing a sword, doesn't mean it's a hack and slash.
I find most of the souls like games involve a stamina bar and everything you do utilizing that whereas hack and slash seem to be that only special moves use stamina MP or whatever and you can use your light and heavy attacks infinite amount which honestly makes them more fun
I really think Chinese & Korean studios are the only ones that will save the Hack & Slash genre with a wide variety of titles and they are coming slowly but strongly to mainstream platforms like Xbox/PC and Playstation no more MMOs Android only. If they keep that pace they wil be bigger than ever in the gaming industry also you forgot about Phantom blade 0. 😉😉
P.S: Thanks for the video @GamingBolt please make it a stable top 10 each year cause fewer videos talk about hack n slash genre.

Me personally most games on here I don`t consider a hack & slash, while they are by the name they are I consider a game a H&S when you have you can combine button presses that have a different attack animation and/or have a light and heavy attack and (but not required) have the ability to jump and do air combos so games like Lost Soul Aside and Enenra is what I consider a true H&S.
Also there is a game in development that has not being getting a lot of attention so I'm going to talk about it here, there is a game called:
Yasuke The Lost Descendent
It has an anime aesthetic, parkour, has a futuristic setting and for the first time in a H&S genre the main character is black, now if I could play a H&S game with a Indian character that would be great.
Another game that`s out right now is called:
Soulstice
If you like the anime Berserk and Claymore, you will love the heck out of this game, as soon as you see it you will see the inspiration straight away and if you do decide to get it I recommend you watch both animes first before you play Soulstice and trust me if you do you will be hyped.
There have not been a long of H&S games being made but now there a loads and I have counted at least 11 that I want to get, to me H&S is the best when it come to weapon combat nothing else beats it.
Shouts out to hack & slash games, they are making a comeback.

Yeah, souls like games usually suck imo. Most recent hack and slash I played was Evil West. Kinda short but fun
Ultra Age isn't bad. It was made by just two guys. Short and simple, but not bad.
If you haven't tried, the Darksiders series is pretty good. First one is best IMO.
I don't know how far your catalog goes back but Metal Gear Rising and Nier Automata come to mind as well.

Hack and slash is pretty much fast based action games where you often fight many 1v2+ enemy battles. Look to games like devil may cry for examples of this.
Whereas Soulslikes tend to be more grounded about slow-paced, hack and slash is the opposite. Fast paced, quick twitched. As much style as you can fit into a single attack. Devil May Cry and Ninja Gaiden are the kings of this.

Try TAILS of IRON it's 2D souls like. It's been able to make me like souls-like games but I still doubt I'll play a 3D one.

Fast paced hack’n slash is my fav genre but half of the list won’t ever come out. Chinese games never see the light of day unless it’s mobile.

Black Myth Wukong is a souls-like cuz it has a shitty stamina bar a symptom of a souls-like please don't lump it in with hack and slash. When is Hellblade 2 even coming out?
Wow. The fact that Stellar Blade / Project Eve, which looks better than most of these, was completely snubbed is cray cray.
The beautiful female character design "from a bygone era" bias strikes.

Once again non of these games can match the lvl of DMC... The only game that somewhat can be compare to DMC is Lost Soul Aside but we all know that $hit won't get release anytime soon.
Lies of P is inspired so much by Souls games that it forgets to be its own game. It's also one of these Soulslikes that tries to be harder than its inspiration and I'm tired of those.
Why does every hack and slash game have to be souls like, give me a hack and slash like elder scrolls where I don’t have to spend 7 hours fighting the tutorial boss.
im fed up of soulslike games since they are painfully slow, its a breath of fresh Air games like Stellar Blade and specially Soul Lost Aside really Hope they sell well like FF XVI so developers start milking this genre instead of soulslike, and lies of P and rise of ronin are soulsborne since they are painfully slow( lies of P)

Majority of the games are made by Asian developers...this is bad. Their work is always incomplete...bugs..glitches...they wont ever finish the game (so no support) etc. etc. they are only fun for 1\2 week max.
Japanese developers are the masters of character action hack n slash. Having said that, a lot of these are random Chinese titles from unknown devs 🤢

Lol, completely omitting EAs track record, the debacle that was Halo Infinite, Rockay City being heavily mediocre, Redfall being super underwhelming --- You can not like thegames coming out but a blanket statement of Asian developers = mostly unfinished games, is a far cry from reality.
