    I really appreciate when a photographer reviews a camera and it’s all about what helps him take better pictures and what works for him! All the while posting really good images. Not reviews of pixel peeping and specs with bad photography mixed in. Subscribed!

    Truth is I'm not really interested in the Leica SL in particular, but your videos are always so great (well edited, funny, interesting, etc.), that I ended up seeing the full video. Some time ago I already said (in another video's comment) that you deserve many more subs - not that 66k is bad at all of course! But I think that your channel should be skyrocketing, your content is really good, or at least that's what I think. Congratulations for your work, as a content creator I truly look up to people like you! Thanks for sharing all of this great stuff, no matter if they are reviews, "on the street with", potato vlogs or whatever.

    I know I am 3 years too late, but just in case anyone new wonders what a Leica M digital is like, I say that I have an M2, an M3 and an M6 for a long time, and I also have a M 240. The M240 is the closest experience to shooting a Leica M film camera. Leica did a magnificent job with the M240, to keep the analogue feel.

    I’ve sold all my Fuji gear one year ago for a SL 601, very happy with this choice so far.
    The ergonomic, the sensor, the general design, maybe one of my favorite camera
    A real joy to shoot with, casually and professionally
    Sure it’s not a perfect camera, but damn near it
    If only it had ibis, i don’t really want to switch to the SL2S, try it and i really prefer the 601 sensor and body 🌝

    Very good points. I have gone through the same process with the M vs SL. I love the M10, too, but ended up getting the SL. The SL is definitely better for telephoto lenses, and with the Ms you have issues with not knowing how e.g. flare will affect the image. You also have the problem with the rangefinder having to be adjusted at regular intervals. That said, the M10 is definitely "Prettier".

    ha super cool how you just set up the streaming H1 - having the battery grip there at all times, i assume no batteries inside the battery grip and want to ask you could power the H1 for streaming with no batteries at all and only rely on the power cable connected to the camera?
    also very interesting how you compare the FF 35mm looks good while the 35mm equivalent looks flat, does that feel the same in other focal lengths wider or more tele? Or its something unique with the 35mm field of view and or bokeh haha

I will buy a Leica SL2, but I’m still debating between a 35 1.4 or 50 1.4 lens... On my Nikon I primarily used the 58mm 1.4 (lovely) Do you have some good advise? I’m really new to Leica.

    I see you're using the novoflex adapter here, in your experience with shooting like this (vintage style lens + modern body) do you see an advantage to using premium adapters like Novoflex and/or Leica? I just got my 601 today, and want to also use M lenses on it. Currently ordered a 50€ adapter from a company called Urth, it seems to work ok, but I'm worried if longterm a bad adapter may hurt the body and/or lenses? 😞

    • @SamuelStreetlife
      @SamuelStreetlife  9 месяцев назад

      I have no experience with the Urth adapter on the Leica SL but I had one from Urth for the Sigma Fp and adapted M lenses on it. There was no problem and I dont think mount adapters will damage your camera. Just leave the adapter on the camera and you should be finde. Novoflex was well made but there was nothing special about it :)

  • @TheBigNegative-PhotoChannel
    @TheBigNegative-PhotoChannel 3 года назад +1

    You don't have to worry about taking the wrong camera. The SL is newer and has a much better sensor than the good old m240. It is also much more sensible to buy an analog M as you said because of the value retention. But an M-P is exaggerated. Just follow the Sunny-16 rule and you won't need a light meter anyway. So you can take an M4 and would be absolutely happy with it.
    I found it funny that you said the m240 is thick but then you buy an SL. 😄

    I saw late just yesterday and it looked nice. In hands seems an old Mamiya 6 which is still a wonderful camera. I have an M240 but it would be great to fix my 90 nano and use it just in case without the necessity to change the lens and capture too much dust on the sensor.

    I really understand what you mean about having that film experience but on a digital system, even though it sounds a bit backwards.
    Ever since I started shooting film on my M6 a year ago it really has ruined my digital experience for me, I have owned Sony, Fujifilm and even a Leica Q but it felt so much more rewarding to get that scan back that you hoped was in focus because you really nailed the focus and exposure, I mean the masters were doing it with a lot less. I eventually got 2 leica lenses for my M6 and now I took the plunge and sold all my digital cameras and lenses (except my ricoh, love that thing to death) and am switching to a M10-R as my end all be all camera (It must be nice 😂) .
    I can also relate with the idea of trying to get better at focusing on the fly and getting those distances just right with a digital body.
    Love the video man. Keep up the good work.

    I’ve just picked up a Leica SL and fairly recently a Q so the timing of this video was perfect. Granted I had to wait 5 years and sell all my canon gear plus a Pentax 67 to ‘have that Nice’ feeling. I have a policy that if I want something new, then I have to sell something else. I picked up the SL as my environmental portrait and video body. The Q is my everyday/family/travel camera. I wanted to have two similar cameras to match my future projects. The user experience was important to me, menus, build, optics and just being excited to pick up the camera and ‘Put in the work’. Just need to pick up a lens. I thinking voigtlander for the OOF rendering. The Leica’s just make me feel fired up to actually get out and create....

    • @Muchtoobizy
      @Muchtoobizy 3 года назад

      Interesting. I also recently picked up the same two cameras (used). The Q and the SL are really good prices now, since people are switching to higher resolution versions. I use the SL with Voigtlander lenses: 35mm f1.7 Ultron, 50mm f1.5 Nokton and 75mm f1.5 Nokton. Although that 35mm f2 in the video looks nice as well. It seems weird to own a Leica autofocus enabled camera and not a single autofocus lens, but having the ability to use manual focus Leica M mount lenses on a camera body with an EVF was tempting for me. A rangefinders is nice in a street situation if you can get used to it - but try pointing it at the branches of a tree or railings for example and its just a funny joke :-)

    • @WILDANDSTORY
      @WILDANDSTORY 3 года назад

      Muchtoobizy It’s the perfect time to pick up the Q and SL. 5 years later they’re still great cameras. I don’t need massive megapixel. I’d love to have a good autofocus lens, not too big, bit of character and not too expensive. So for now I’m looking at the manual focus voigtlander 40mm f1.2. I can’t believe the m adaptor is £250-300.

    • @Muchtoobizy
      @Muchtoobizy 3 года назад

      WILD AND STORY I agree about not needing all those megapixels and I’d rather not crop heavily in post.
      I use an inexpensive adapter to mount my M mount lenses onto the SL (I paid about £50) and it’s totally fine. Sigma make a small, lightweight 45mm F2.8 AF lens for L mount, but I don’t own it. I bought the SL to be used as a “Leica M with an EVF”, so I’ve no interest in using it as an AF camera.

    • @WILDANDSTORY
      @WILDANDSTORY 3 года назад

      Muchtoobizy yeah I went to try that sigma lens out but it didn’t want to talk to the camera because the SL was on 3.2 firmware. I’ve since updated to 3.7 but will have to try it out again but I don’t think it’ll have the sudo medium format look I’m looking for with the 40mm f1.2. The great thing with the SL is flexibility to go manual or autofocus, stills and video.

    one idea would be to either use mate grey or mate black paint to fill in the 'leica' lettering to make it less visible while maintaining the nice look without the ugly tape. That is if you plan to keep it for life. I dont like white lettering either. It just sticks out like a soar thumb!

    I finally realize why people pair Leica bodies with [less-than-Leica] other glass: if they're going for a vintage ("swirly") out of focus bokeh, why spend on "Pre-asph" Leica M lenses with the other brands are so much cheaper? I still buy vintage Leica glass, but to each their own!

    Leica M9 is something closest to analogue feel. I went from X100F to M9, and oh man, it's a... better not to talk about it, you have your SL now :D

      Samuel L. Streetlife thank you i only asked because I’m selling my 5d markiv so by the SL always wanted to get a Leica but was super expensive but after watching your video I think I might make the switch the prices are doable now on eBay and i can have best of both worlds with the sigma lens when I want autofocus at a fraction of the price

      I’ve been doing research and I feel like your the only one who takes great pictures with this camera. The blogs I’ve seen on the review of the SL the images look super edited and colors are off that is why I asked if you can make another video covering portrait and everyday uses.

    So how is 35 on ff different than 35 (23) on a crop sensor? Can you please elaborate more on what you mean? It is literally the same field of view. Same.

    • @SamuelStreetlife
      @SamuelStreetlife  3 года назад +1

      Like I said in this video it feels flat. A 35mm F2 on FF has a "3D" look. On crop sensor the same field of view often has a deeper depth of field as well. There is more to it than I can explain...

    • @kubowich
      @kubowich 3 года назад

      @@SamuelStreetlife but you never implied the f-stop into that assumption. Of course, f2 on crop has effective DOF f3.0 in ff equivalent. But if you use f1.4 on crop, it is 95% same as f2 on ff...

    Nice camera, have saw some leica cameras, it is cool to keep them in hands, but i cant find reason - why should spend so much money, will stay with fujifilm ,they also cool.

    Does the SL take forever to startup or wake up from sleep like the M? Don’t get the M10 or the M240 they take forever to start up you will loose shots. If you want a film M just get an M6 it’s not as pretty as the MP but it’s essentially the same camera, if you want you can get the MP finder glass retrofitted to the M6 that is the only substantive difference between the two cameras.

    It's crazy how this camera doesn't get the same haywood as the M. But saying that film rangefinders are more desirable then slr bodies. I'll join you guys one day 😂
