The price of a used Leica SL varies depending on where you buy it. I found it for $1500 used in a store with warranty. A used Sigma 45mm is easily found for $350. As a reference, together that is less than our retail price for the Fuji X100VI. Happy hunting. Наука

I have bought all my Pro gear from MPB - 5 year long customer - recent lokk at my account £48K so far
A video from Mattias, it is a special day.
👍
The "two camera rule" should be the next thing reviewed. 😅
I love my SL, I highly doubt I’ll ever get rid of it. I could sell it and one of my M cameras and buy a new SL3 but the pictures won’t come out the same as they do on the SL so that’s why I’ll pass on the SL3.
I love the minimalist design and the build quality. Compared to my Lumix S1R thats soon to be sold, it’s a joy to hold.
For a camera from 2015, the SL has amazing image quality and I absolutely love using it. The pictures come out different and better when I use a camera that I love using compared to a brand new camera with the latest tech. The SL and M10 cameras showed me that I don’t need the latest cameras to get my best pictures. I need a camera that I truly enjoy using and one that makes me want to go out and shoot.
Thus the Leica SL and M10 have cured my GAS. I now only have a 3 camera rule and not 10 camera rule 😂.
Love your videos so I’m excited to see what you got in the next video!
Awesome combo with the M10.
I recently got the SL type 601 with a voigtlander 35mm 1.5. And its my favo camera of all time instantly. Its so fun to use , the EVF is amazing , the sensor is amazing. Love the design of the body.
I still got my PENTAX Q because of you!. Never had a regret at all. Great video as always.
The Q is king 👑
Pew, two cameras only rule! I did not know that, that sounds tough 😅
Otherwise I would be living on the streets 😂
But yes, it can be relatively tough, this was a perfect example of when. Would have loved to get the unbelievably good Sigma 65mm for it and put it through its paces.
Agree! Two cameras are a hard task. I have about 5 cameras that are considered "never sell" but I rotate in other cameras that I buy and sell to try out features, etc.
I abide exactly to the same rule, 2 cameras only. The other 28-ish Retina, Leicaflex, Contaflex, Contarex, Pentax, Canon and Fujifilm just followed me home.

Mattias video days are always great days!
I hope it won't disappoint too much.
@@gearreallydoesntmatter you’ve caused me to try cameras I never would have otherwise. The Pentax K-1 and KP are such great cameras!
Always a good day when Mattias puts out a video. Definitely appreciated.
For anyone interested getting an SL typ 601, I found my copy from Leica soho nyc store website. I gave them a call and they told me they have a like new copy and will price it same as the cheapest one on their website for $1395 with 1 yr leica warranty. They also didn't charge me tax. It came with the box and all accessories and it was indeed a new condition SL. I was so happy with my purchase because of the price and the condition and inclusions I got. Cheers!
I just bought an old used SL and it's amazing. Colors are fantastic, feel is second to none and I the EVF still crushes my new Canons. Your channel probably is why my 401k isn't where it should be but I'm having too much fun to care. :) Thank you!
I have been wanting to hear your thoughts about the SL for a long time. Even though it isn’t a real review I’m still very happy you made the video!
I used to watch your stuff back in the day. Glad to see your still doing your thing. I bought an a7ii years ago cause of your reviews.
Not every camera talk has to be a review. Sounds like the SL was an interesting camera for you to experience even for a short time. The first time I held one I felt it wasn’t a camera I was interested in at all. Fast forward 5-years and it became my ‘budget’ [a used M10 was more than twice the price] alternative camera for use with M-series (and other lenses). Having had it now to 4-years it has grown on me more than I thought it would. Still not compact and with some weight but a joy to use; handles well, great feature-set, solid superb build quality, well thought out button/menu system, the EVF is very clear and bright, great with vintage lenses!, and it does look very cool in a modern sense. In 2024 I’m not seeing any reason to upgrade or change. It just does everything so well for my photographic use.
Great vid Mattias! Do you still have the Sigma SDQ?
I've several of your favorites - R1, RX1, TL2, S1, X-T1 through 4, and so on. The SL is hands down the greatest (to date) Vintage shooting machine - simple interface, exceptional EVF, and so on.... YES my S1 does more, has a better EVF, has IS, blah blah blah. SL is the one I grab. Like you always say - FEEL is #1. Here is to hoping you go back down this road....
You are 100% right!
He's Back!
Bought one last year because I had heard such great things about the viewfinder and the feel in hand. I love using old lenses with manual focus and the SL was supposedly great for that. A part of me was convinced I wouldn’t keep it because of the size and weight but I fell in love with it straight away, sold my canon 5d and fuji x-e3 and all my fuji lenses. I still get annoyed with the size sometimes and think I should trade it in but that’s usually when I’m not actually using it, then I pick it up and use it and the pictures blow me away and it feels so good in hand that the size doesn’t matter anymore.
I agree with the size. At home while holding it I think, this is too big and heavy. But out shooting it never crossed my mind even for a second. It’s worth it.
It’s too bad there’s no review, I would have loved to hear all these points you won’t say :(
Maybe some other time :)
Mattias, which camera with 28mm would you get to use mostly for street photography with a price around 1000-1500 euro ? Id like something small but really cant decide
Ricoh GRii/iii are the most given options. Your just shy of a used Leica Q, a little bigger but a Leica :)
Then if you want interchangeable there are hundreds of options. Panasonic GX9 + 14mm is nice.
You are still my fav youtuber, by a long stretch. When I see a new video on your channel, I grab a coffee, put my feet up and push play. Personally I think your combination of narrative and images is unmatched on youtube. Glad to see you back, Hope everything is ok. And yes, people that don't see the difference in Leica colours are idoits.
Hi, Do you like the out put of Leica M9 or the SL? Or maybe 240/262 vs the SL? I think this might be an interesting comparison... They are roughly about the same price in my region, but totally different cameras.
M9 for sure. But if one doesn’t want a rangefinder, then the output from the SL won’t disappoint.
Used the SL briefly… the take away for me was the EVF. So bright and big and clear. Felt excellent in the hand too.m
Another bucketlist camera 😮? We shall eagerly await….
Its still in the box, it came in om friday. Waiting for the perfect moment 😅
This is the review ive been waiting for from you. This is a camera I use, love and adore. ITs given me everything ive wanted in a camera, full frame to get all the juicy bits out of old lenses, beautiful colours for portraits and access to the sigma I series. IT has unbelievable build quality which I love as a tactile person to go with the beautifully made m mount lenses available. also while you might not get all the bells and whistles on the Nikon z8/7/6 or canon r6/5 you have the basics which matches and exceeds them for less. since. I picked up this camera. year ago my fuji and canon have basically been unused.
It’s definitely special. Hopefully I can get another one at a later date.
Definitely want to know about the bucket list camera
THANK YOU, you made my day🙂
I recently traded mine, and I terrible miss it. Probably not so much for the IQ, but the shooting experience and the integrated GPS made it very interesting for traveling.
I've checked the SL2 & SL3 and none of them have GPS? Is the SL the only Leica camera with integrated GPS?
I tested this once. Beautiful photos (it was second hand and came with a tiny 50mm f2 m mount lens and adapter) but the grip was a bit big for my small hands. I adored the uni body though. It really felt like a wonderful piece of engineering, not technology.
I can't believe you're going to leave us hanging like this, and not do a review.... ;). Glad to have you back making videos!
Did you managed to get your hands on ZF?
Haven’t tried, will keep it in mind.
What a pity that you never got to cover any of the points that you did. Erm... ....anyway, it's always good to hear from Mattais.
That’s my all time favourite camera. Glad you got your hands on it. Too bad we didn’t get to hear what you thought ;)
I can see why it is a favorite.
Love the SL!
Guess whose back. Back again. Mattias' back. Tell a friend.
I always wanted an SL as an adapted lens platform. Might still get one one day.
It’s perfect for adapting vintage glass.
Glad you're uploading again! This is unrelated to this video, but I bought a Pentax mx1 back in 2021 because of you. It's still going strong and I absolutely love it. Cheers!
Thats awesome!
Should we expect a “why I haven’t reviewed the OM-1” too? 😂 I’m waiting for that video but am now worried…
No I will definitely review it, 100%.
BTW, recorded this video with it.
You have good taste in cameras!
Please! Do a review of one of the ABSOLUTE classics, the Nikon D70!
The last seconds of the video kept me on edge.
Love your ‘non’ reviews 😂😂. 10/10.
I won't leave a comment but if I did it would be to say hi and thanks for the video
😂❤️
I just bought one, great results already
I’m actually jealous. I might change to a three camera rule just to have one.
@@gearreallydoesntmatter the price is too silly not to. specially with the TTart 21mmf1.5 and other cheap Leica-M lenses.
The little one is growing up. She was just a little bit such a short time ago. The SL-2 is an interesting camera, pricey though.
She is. The SL2 is definitely interesting but the SL is just so affordable.
@@gearreallydoesntmatter Mattias, my bad, I was thinking SL-2 and you did SL. The SL is a bargain, half the price of an M9 now. In that price range it is quite attractive. Used camera prices can be crazy. BTW, those M9 prices are not with upgraded sensor glass!
That’s crazy. Here an M9 is around $2000 and the SL $1500.
@@gearreallydoesntmatter US$2200 lowest, $2700 and $2900, most w/out replaced sensors.
my favourite of all time
You will regret selling it. It’s the best camera also for the use with vintage lenses. And the focus peaking just works as it should be!
Maybe, but it’s quite commonly and very affordable. So I can probably buy it again.
I bought a second hand SL last summer I my Leica V3 50mm Summicron sits permanently on it.
I haven’t used any of the TL lenses on it because they crop down to APSC at 10MP and I’d rather use my manual lenses and use the full frame of the sensor.
What crazy camera could Mattias have gotten to immediately get rid of the SL? My guess is a Nikon DL 18-50 that somehow escaped from Nikon's prototype camera dungeon.
Now that would be an awesome find. I bet there is one somewhere in someone’s desk drawer.
Urgh, my CL. I love it so much.
You should 📷
@@gearreallydoesntmatter I've thought about selling my G9 and Leica 100/400 & Nocticron (what a lens) and get the SL for a two camera system, but I just can't not have a wildlife & video option. One day hopefully...
I can see that, m4/3 is pretty unbeatable for wildlife.
One day i want to be calm as you are when my 2 year old is sitting next to my camera
She is always sitting next to or grabbing whatever is in front of me 😅
At the moment i have a 6 camera rule..! (Nikon D40, D50, D200, D700 Fujifilm X100s, X-H1)
;) Beginner.
It's a real shame Mattias 😢 wasn't able to review the SL. Scrap that silly 2 camera rule - GAS is real, gracefully give in to it.
Can't wait for your next non-review review.
🤞 let's hope it not the CL without the 18mm.
The Leica SL is amazing, but I probably know why you sent it back 😉
This is a camera I'm looking for from time to time. I've heard about the fantastic colours and craftsmanship and the sigma seems to be perfect. But the prices are rising higher and higher....may be one day...
Btw... I'm selling every camera, I'm not loving enough. But only 2!? Impossible 🙈😄
Here the SL is constantly dropping. If it’s going up you would make a profit if you don’t like it 😀
@@gearreallydoesntmatter 😄😉👍🏻
You have the discipline of a monk.
I wa sjust playing around with my new ttartisan f35 that just arrived and here I am watching a Leica video like I could afford anything other than said lens LOL
Ive used TT artisan on Leica many times 👍
@@gearreallydoesntmatter Must be nice on a Leica. I paired mine with my decade old Sony NEX 5 and it surprisingly delivered...all things considered LOL
The NEX is 4 years younger than the M8, so it should be nice 😀
wish i could watch this video but i just cant
4:11 my anxiety 📈📈📈
Its a rugged camera :)
I don't really get why manufacturers who don't compete tech wise with giants make these PSAM SLR style bodies. I would have though that focusing on a niche would sell better every time. At least in the niche it's harder to be directly compared to the front runners.
Especially with Leica and Fujifilm, big full frame sized SLR bodies always make me wonder why they'd bother making a Sony a7 or Canon R copy, but slightly worse. The X-H and SL range feel like they'd have been at least a bit more competitive in 2018 or so, now it feels like a lot of R&D and resource investment to aim for 4th place or lower in the race.
Might just be me, but I find the value of certain brands to be that they are running their own race. True range finders, or compact character lenses on small range finder style manual dial aps-c bodies, feels like you're getting something unique worth giving up the best tech for - it makes them feel appealing to spend the money on.
🤷♂️
It is just you, they sell faster than Leica can make them. And remember, “worse” is just your subjective feelings, not facts. And many simply don’t share your feelings on the matter.
@@gearreallydoesntmatter I thought Leica recently said that they comparatively struggle to sell the SL but are committing to it anyway. The petapixel podcast even commended them for the honesty. Maybe I misheard. 🤷♂️
Because you don’t want to be part of the L mount alliance alliance alliance…
Yeah I hate those affordable, sharp and versatile lenses that go on multiple brands. So inconvenient :)
Because it’s almost a rehoused LUMIX s5
They rehoused it 5 years before the s5 was released? That’s quite the achievement.
@@gearreallydoesntmatter ofc i’m talking about newer models, the original sl is in its own category
So then the S5 is pretty much a rehoused SL.
If you had the camera for only a couple of hours then why make the video??? If this is not a review???
Not every video on the internet has to be a review.
had me in the first 5 seconds love a mattias video!
Post reviews, not not reviews.
