It’s so tempting, i keep seeing them regularly under $2000 USD, I just gotta decide if the Leica Allure is more important than actual technology in other modern cameras. Plus Leica glass is the main reason you’d want a Leica, and that’s 5X the cost of the body!
It’s an amazing camera and the sigma lenses are actually really great. Yeah Leica has amazing colors an all-around good user experience you have to really appreciate those things I still have my Sony as well though the Leica Can’t replace it unfortunately.
Something to remember about the SL series is that they are optimized for adapted Leica M mount lenses as well. This means that where the Sony A7 whatevers will produce bad results with a Leica, Zeiss or Voigtlander M lens, the SL cameras will perform well. As long as you're comfortable with manual focus, you can get a number of secondhand Zeiss ZM lenses for the price of a single new Summicron SL lens.
Battery life when filming is a serious issue...charging with power block while filming is NOT possible....battery capacity is just 1860ma,..almost half of Panasonic S Seres ..what's been your exsperiance??
If you're still with your Leica/L-mount, you should rent/try Sigma's 105mm 1.4 lens. It's one of my faves from Sigma. It's huge, but used around a studio, or short photoshoots, the images it produces are really awesome.
Nice review, I just got the SL2-S and after having the SL it has some really important upgrades. The main for me is IBIS and also the incredible ISO performance, I have had many cameras but Leica just makes me "want" to take images. Cheers Ian (UK)
You all prolly dont give a damn but does anyone know of a tool to log back into an instagram account..? I was dumb forgot my password. I would love any assistance you can offer me
@Lochlan Abdullah i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and Im trying it out now. I see it takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Not interested at all… was my first hands-on impression when the SL came out. Coming from decades of M-series it was just too large and heavy. Things change, and I bought a like-new used SL a few years ago at less than ½ the price of a used M10, and yes, still larger/heavier, but really great EVF for critical focus, a ‘modern’ camera in features, and design is beautiful and functional. It’s a great camera still. No reason for me to up-grade, it does everything I bought it for. The custom made sensor for the SL is still great. Works very well with my M-series and other vintage smaller (match well with the larger camera body) manual focus lenses. Maybe the best used digital Leica deal out there.
I shoot with my SL1 on an almost daily basis and love it. Soon I'll be purchasing the SL2, one dilemma though, I'm a very diverse photographer and on occasion find myself in low light conditions, however I would love the higher pixel count because I'll take an image and pull multiple images out of it, meaning I'm a cropping mad man! You get where I'm going with this, SL2 vs SL2S?
Depends on the number of photos you take. I shoot almost everyday so sl2 Is a no go for me. The sl2s is so sharp I’ve never had a problem cropping in a lot.
I've been looking closely at the first generation SL, but I've been so spoiled by the EOS R eye detection and shooting wide open at 1.2. It's obscenely reliable. I know you mentioned mostly shooting slower with single point, but what would you say the keeper rate is with the SL on continuous autofocus on a reasonably still face?
It depends on how clear their face is as well and the lighting conditions if there’s not much movement the hit rate is 90% if they move a lot it’ll drop a little bit
The good news is you're getting the upcoming firmware update for the SL2. The SL2-S is said to have improved tracking. If it's anywhere near the Panasonic S5, you'll be in really great shape.
Watching this after seeing one for $3000NZD complete package 2nd hand in excellent condition barely used. I'm worry about not having warranty but I've heard they are very durable.
I've just bought one here in NZ too, Paired with a Sigma 65mm f2, coming from Sony A9 I need to get used to the menu... But overall IQ is very different even the A9 is slightly better in low light.
@@frankwieczorek5112 I actually bought if after I posted that comment haha I bought a Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 so that I can do a bit of everything with it. Leica lenses are out of my reach at the moment :)
Hey Matt I know you have moved on to the SL2s but I wanted to ask you if you could only choose one camera between the Q and the SL which would you pick? I shoot more as a hobby when I’m out with the family and kids . I currently own a Leica M8, I’ve used a Q before but debating wether I should grab a Q or an SL with a 28mm and a 50mm M mount (voigtlander most likely)
Very good video. Im a portrait photographer currently am on an a7Riii system with sigma lenses and thinking of switching to a leica SL, Do you it is worth it? And does leica sl have that "micro contrast" or contrast detect that ive been reading a lot? And how are the overall image quality? Do you think leica sl is better than your a7iii?

Thoughts on the Sigma 35mm 1.2? Compared to other 35mm prime L mount options?

Thanks for the reply. Do you experience a lot of hunting/focus pulsing that's common in contrast detect systems?
@@cm100099 yep unfortunately, even with the sl2s it still hunts but I just love the image quality and feel so I let it slide.

Mostly comes down to size, if you don’t mind the bigger camera SL Is a great deal right now but if you just want portable Q Is beautiful

I'm honestly considering trading in a A9ii to a SL
depends on what you shoot
Leica has 4mp viewfinder and a7iii is 2.36mp
