@@consciouscoma85 He's great but once I saw him at a small venue and he was not himself. Didn't seem like Steve or how I thought he might be and he made no connections to small audience and didn't seem that interested in being there. Probably just a bad night.
An underappreciated American treasure, Steve is. So many amazing songs in his catalog. This one was an inspired performance. Touching, beautiful stuff.
Best Forbert song, and great performance here. A truely great musician and songwriter. So glad my Dad found him a few decades ago and has had me hooked since birth!
Every once in a while I come back to watch and listen to this performance...I've seen Steve on so many occasions and he never once disappointed. My twenty-one year old son's verdict- 'a class act!'. Irrespective of generational differences, good is good- and this guy is great!
In 78, i purchased Alive on arrival, and in 2021, i was lucky a anough and found in a record store The street of this town . Wow, Steve Forbert, i can't stop listening to this great album. Thanks!
This is my favorite song of his for sure. A classic and the stage set and lighting combined with the sound of the song carry you back in time like a dream. Nobody makes music like this a anymore. Awesome!
Man. Steve Forbert gets everything right with this song. Full manifestation of his talent and inspiration. I identify: "I blinked once, and it was gone." 🙋🧡 Kerrie Lynn Robinson April 22, 2024
STREETS OF THIS TOWN is one of my favorite albums of the 80s. The songs still go through my head, especially "Live and Breathe" and "Mexico." Taped it off the radio premiere on WNEW-FM and saw Steve at a club in NYC when he was touring to support it. Used to think this was called "Gone" - shows you how few titles I got while taping. Raise your hand if you know what STREETS OF THIS TOWN is about: it was his comeback when he got sober. That's why it's more spiritual than his earlier work.
under rated is an under statement. ..if it were not for his early commercial success i would have never known who Steve Forbert was .he is living proof that commercialism does not have to kill the artist in you. he is still making music to day .
My wife and I saw him perform about 20 years ago at Froggy Bottoms in downtown Dallas. One of the best shows we have ever been to. Thanks for the memories.
amerikanprincess--thanks for your post. I love Streets Of This Town, it's my fave Forbert album. I did not know it was a sober comeback. Forbert has always been highly under rated in my opinion.
I had heard Romeo's Tune but had no idea he was from Meridian, Mississippi about a 2 1/2 hour drive away from where I grew up until I listened to "Streets of This Town" and I thought, "why don't we talk about him being a famous Mississippian as much as Oprah, Walter Peyton, or Jim Henson?" Brilliant, simply brilliant.
Master singer, master guitar player, master songwriter, master harmonica player.ect.Saw you in Pawtucket 5 years ago.Sorry I confess it was me tapping on a table.Hope u forgive me.
I read in a comment that he played in Decatur,Georgia three years ago.I just discovered him three days ago and would love to see him perform live!I absolutely love his music!
I saw him at a coffee house in Northampton Massachusetts back in the 80's. While waiting in line to use the restroom, we talked about Ramblin Jack Elliot's version of House of the Rising Sun.
The song portrays a person w/ ageless foresight. What I perceive as the essential "message" contained herein, I could not possibly appreciate until now, when I am older. January 9, 2023
Blinked I did ...arrived at the crossroads I did .....blinked I did arrived back at the crossroads I did,,, blinked Again I did ..... arrived at the croosroads Again I did ...blinked Again I did ...life is a circle ....the last blink.... the most peaceful blink of all .!
There aren't many songwriters better than this guy. He deserves wider acclaim.
a man, a microphone, a harmonica and a guitar....thats all he needed to make this beautiful piece of music...what a great artist
you know you have talent when you can entertain a crowed of people with just an acoustic guitar, harmonica ,and a mic .

I love this dude! Is he single? He has the most poetic lyrics ❤️
I blinked once and Steve Forbert was 69 years old. Crazy!

A brilliant musician and songwriter capturing life in its reality and beauty!
Childhood often seemed a pain to me
So hard waiting to be grown
childhood climbed up in a white oak tree
I blinked once and it was gone..
just cry for it all
1980...on the East Coast of NZ kicking back n tuning into this awesome guy... wicked stuff...
Saw him last night in Glasgow ... Still brilliant after all these years
What a lovely song, Steve has always been my favourite singer 🎸

Definitely one of the most underrated. Love this ❤
I love the way he appears shocked when he hits a loud chord. He is the player and audience all in one. He is also an observer. Lordy, lordy.

Just found this guy. HE'S AMAZING!!
CONSISTENT TALENT!

Very moving song. Lovely! Love me some Steve Forbert.
Thanks for posting this. Loved his voice: expressive, playful, tender. This is one of his most affecting performances, in my opinion.
Always been a favorite of mine . So unappreciated by most
I love him...he's so good!
Besides Willie Nile he was one of my sing and song writer favourites late 70s and early 80s Happy as a child to hear him again,
Thanks jeffjn
Amazing video, Steve is incredible, wish more people knew about him. I'm glad my dad has known about him for so long.
My wife and I saw him perform about 20 years ago at Froggy Bottoms in downtown Dallas. One of the best shows we have ever been to. Thanks for the memories.
3:25: The pain becomes too intense for voice, so he deploys his harmonica. What a privilege to listen to this.
very very underated ....awesome

AMEN 🙏☮️🇺🇦
love Steve... it all started with 'Romeo's Tune' for me
it's pretty cool to see him on stage; thanks ;)
I had heard Romeo's Tune but had no idea he was from Meridian, Mississippi about a 2 1/2 hour drive away from where I grew up until I listened to "Streets of This Town" and I thought, "why don't we talk about him being a famous Mississippian as much as Oprah, Walter Peyton, or Jim Henson?" I saw Steve play once and he's one of my all time favorite artists
Never tire of this. Absolute legend!
Check out his albums "Mission of the Crossroad Palms" and "Rocking Horse Head" for a wonderful renaissance in the 1990s.
Wonderful poetry put to music.
Wow, thanks for posting. I had this album way back in the day and it is so very memorable, Beautiful song!
One of my favorite Steve Forbert songs. The studio cut was Produced by Garry Tallent of the E Street Band.

He Nailed it!
What a song
I saw him at a coffee house in Northampton Massachusetts back in the 80's. While waiting in line to use the restroom, we talked about Ramblin Jack Elliot's version of House of the Rising Sun.
in this time of play dough music where all songs are made of the same substance - Forbert shines.
just blinked and he was gone us old folks must keep this music alive
The man is a genius - so much of his stuff turns me over.
