I follow the Quran alone but when I prayed that Allah enable me to do the pilgrimage I indeed went to Mecca. That isn’t to say that everyone who comes has pure intentions or that idol worship isn’t occurring. I do believe the kissing of the stone, throwing stones at « Satan », trying to seek out the shrine of the prophet Muhammad, trying to touch the footsteps of Abraham and believing the kaaba has power to answer prayers worshipping it, all of this is idol worship. I don’t disagree that the Kaaba has been made an idol when the Quran has not authorised that we idolise the Kaaba but that we simply take it as a direction or qibla. It doesn’t mention hanging the Kaaba picture in our homes or burying our dead facing it or praying to it. But the act of pilgrimage itself must be in Mecca because there isn’t to date any other place where thousands of people are coming from everywhere as the Quran prophesied…
