    Those IJN BBs look suspiciously like Kongo class battlecruisers of the actual IJN. One was even named the Hyuga I think.
    Edit- Hyuga was an Ise class.

    Mission idea: Crisis in Agadir.
    The German Empire demands for compensations after the French started to send more forces in Morroco turns sour, and at everyone's surprise the United Kingdom decide to side with the German Empire in the argument. While none of their ships set sails, they break their alliance pact with France and Russia, leaving the Germans free to mobilize and threaten the country in a series of low intensity skirmishes across the border.
    At sea, the German Empire sends a fleet of fast new ships to enforce their demands and if possible sink the French convoys of troops to Agadir, and the French fleet sails out of their Atlantic ports to block them in the North Sea.
    German technology would be more modern due to the massive investment done in the past few years, and would be set around 1908-1910. Their fleet would consist of:
    - 2 Battlecruisers.
    - 5 Heavy cruisers.
    - 6 Destroyers.
    Their French adversaries would have a more massive fleet, but the lack of investment in that field after the alliance with the UK is hard to compensate. Their tech level would be 1900, and their fleet would be:
    - 3 Battleships.
    - 5 Heavy cruisers.
    - 3 Light cruisers.
    - 6 Destroyers/torpedo boats.
    You would design the German battlecruisers (that historically were thought more as pocket battleships than super cruisers, just because the more you know...) and will have to use that small bit of tech advantage over the French fleet to try and keep them at bay. The Battlecruisers need a speed of at least 31 knots, and the maximum budget for them is high. Since they're brand new and Germany have little experience in designing dreadnoughts, some choices of configurations are... interesting (pick either a side guns mount or another "strange" idea of naval architecture in them if possible).
    Starting positions would be 10.000 meters apart only, due to the poor weather of the North Sea (it's sad you cannot pick what weather you want to fight in game, would be a neat addition tbh) that made spotting harder for both the fleets.
    Victory conditions are to either scatter or destroy the enemy fleet, but more importantly to keep the BC alive, seeing as they are quite the costly investment and needs to be examined after the battle for improvement.
    Third time's the charm, and anyways any of your videos are good so keep them that way!

      31 knots is way too fast for battlecruisers of the time. It’s more realistic to have 25

      @@richmond3090 correct the Iowa went 33 kn and it was a battleship and the Tirpitz was 31 kn.

    US fleet:
    Battle Cruisers: 1
    Light Cruises: 2
    Destroyers: 4
    Transports: 5
    Japanese Fleet
    Destroyers: 5 (your design/control)
    Scenario:
    The year is 1944, The US has sent a Assault fleet against a small island the Japanese are using as a fueling station and airfield. Your mission is to stop this assault by destroying the Transports and battle cruiser using the small Destroyer fleet fueling up at the island.
    Victory conditions: Destroy the enemy transports and Battle cruiser by any means necessary.

      Strike mission with B-25 Mitchells and A-20 Havocs strafers escorted by fighters followed up with B-17, B-24 and or B-29 Air strike. B-29s would be carrying Tallboys!
      Edit: Night mission lay Sea mines.
      Edit 2: Yep know it's a naval game. But what the heck it's fun to speculate. Oh and forgot about para frags!

    Here's a mission idea!
    You play as America VS. the British, one renowned for its damage control, and the other renowned for its armor.
    You're going to need that damage control because you will be designing a class of battleship, which will act as a brawler.
    Close range, tanking hits from every side, and gets up close to the enemy to break them in half with pounding close-range volleys.
    You'll be escorted by two other battleships and face 2 battlecruisers, 5 heavy cruisers, 5 light cruisers, and two destroyers.
    I've always wondered how close-range battles would or could be fought by these kinds of ships. A lot of people say it's impractical so I want to see how you take on such a challenge!

    After playing yesterday a bit I noticed that the each propellant had its up and downsides. I almost always go for something else than high tnt if I don't get 18" guns because of the penetration "loss". Also the towers aren't always better if they are higher tier. Sometimes you have a tier 6 be better in nearly every way than the tier 8.
    If you got the time you could consider looking at those stats a bit more for min maxing the ships performance.
    The penetration thingy pops up if you hover over an enemies you have not focused with your camera (double clicked). For easier use, pause the game, move the camera a tiny bit and hover over the enemie you want to know the penchance from.
    And be careful with setting your guns at aggressive if you manually target. They will try and fire past their maximum range like in 37:30 this is then a complete waste of ammo if you can't hit the dd under any circumstances

      The best IMO was ballistite but the developers removed that from later ships. Ballistite was great because it has a +8.5% muzzle velocity which reallyu worked for extra heavy shells. The plunging fire at +28kms was absolutely devastating. One game I got a hit with a ranging shot at 35kms and blew the enemy up with one shot.
      Now White Powder is the best all round compromise - by far, since it gives you +.7.5% muzzle velocity increase and a lot of other benefits, such as great cost to performance ratio. That said with 18" guns I have found Liddite II with HE to be about the best for damage. When destroyers get to within 10kms and you switch the secondaries to 'aggressive' and the of the ships secondaries open up it seems to be about the best.
      Also the pen on the mains is really good with HE but the ships have to be under 20kms which is a bit close for comfort.
      Also if you have multiple targets under 10kms and say 3", 5" and 8' secondaries and you switch to agressive, the AI will prioritise 3" and 5" to the closest target[s] and the 8" will target the more distant. I think this only works after a ship has been sunk via the secondaries though. If you let it do its own thing the AI does a reasonable job on close in targets so long as you have a formidible array of varying gun calibers. I'm yet to run out of ammo on any gun under 8" so wasting isn't so much of a problem esp the 3" as I think there's like 25k of it LOL. I actually like the 3" a lot as any destroyer attack that get inside of 5kms has a hard time surviving if you have lots of 3". With Liddite the start lots of fires and gives the enemy a great deal of bother.

      @@ThePaulv12 yea maybe they bring it back or add variants etc etc. This game is far from finished anyway.
      And my point with wasting ammo is not that you might run out, but that it's just a waste. It's more of a visual thing that game play but still it bothers me a bit that they fire into the ocean. Maybe in some patch there will be regulations that the behavior will be changed so guns won't fire past 25m of their max range. And stealth likes to select targets on his own (which I can understand) so there is way more micromanagement needed to keep all guns hitting stuff.
      And by the way nothing I said is critique to you Stealth, just tips and ideas :)

    The AI is just so inconsistent in this game. The devs need to improve it a lot before they can even consider releasing it - especially the random "no shoot torps/arbitrarily retreat". There should be options when setting up a battle to control these things.
    Stealth, you need to stop trying HE shells against BBs. HE is only going to do anything if it pens, and that's not gonna happen with a BB's armour.

      @@Waldherz I mean, in reality, HE vs heavy armor would only cause spalling damage. It could set fires and such, but damage control and well-trained crews ensured that HE was basically useless against battleships. If you wanted to do much to a battleship, you needed high-velocity AP fired by 'modern' (WWII) 206mm (8-inch) cannons or larger mounted on heavy cruisers and battlecruiser/ships.

    I wonder if you could recreate the battle off Samar, as the Americans. The interesting part being that you only have 1 set of torpedoes, and you can use cargo ships(with 5 inch guns) as the carriers. The win condition being the transports surviving.

    good job on sinking the enemy fleet . :) Could put more secondary guns on the ship and underwater torpedo for the battleship in case the destroyers close up on you while u were focusing on something else. Anyways good job and continue making more of this video.

    I changed you to build something like the USS Atlanta vs 15 Imperial Japanese destroyers. The year is 1942 the Imperial Japanese Navy is on the run. You have been sent out on a recon mission. Your ship uss Atlanta spots smoke on the horizon at distance of 15,000.You think what you see is just transports but it’s a last-ditch effort for the Imperial navy.

    Haven't finished watching, but during building I notice that you say "13 inches of armour...that means I'll never be able to completely negate that amount of pen" (paraphrased to say what I think you meant).
    You forgot about armour quality, which for you is +118%. To negate 13" of penetration at 25km you only need your *belt* to be 6" thick, the *deck* penetration at 25km was almost 28". With 11.5" belt and deck the effective thickness including armour quality is 25". This means you should be staying at 16-23km from battleships/battlecruisers during the battle (assuming they use mark 5 16" guns with super heavy high TNT shells) as under about 16km your belt will get penetrated and over about 23km your deck will get penetrated. If they however get the same guns as you are using (unlikely as you have the tech advantage) your ship will get penetrated at any range, and only angling will help you.
    Edit: at 37:58 it looks like the B turret and possibly also the A turret aren't quite aiming at the target, so the ship doesn't fire the salvo.

    I don’t think you should use dual barrel even if they have higher accuracy. Remember the triple has an additional barrel so it basically will have more chance to hit as you are firing one more extra shell. After 10 salvos it will be 10 extra shell so it could potentially end up as few extra hits including other secondaries you have included.

      robert goodman actually I just checked my self and the answer is yes it does have a faster reload speed of only one second. So if you give 1 min of time double will shoot 5 times and triple will fire 4.5 times. And if you do quick maths that will be 10 shots from the double and a minimum of 12 shots by the triple. Therefore triple will 100% have an advantage over double.

      robert goodman and by the way the chance for a double to hit in 1 min is about 82% but for a triple it is about 86.45(might be wrong didn’t use a calculator) so you should definitely take triple unless you are worried about ammunition storage on a SUPER battleship like this one.

      No actually it is 94.8% for a TRIPLE to hit in 1 min so no matter what you should take triple if possible.

    Fairly confident that holes those size would just lead to the compartment being sealed, patching would be damn near impossible.

      You would be surprised just how much repair plating ships carry. Yes, mid-battle they would just seal the bulkheads but if they survived they would have some plating on board that they could weld in place to at least give some floatability and reduce drag in order to make the trip to a port that could do proper repairs.

      Deatroec the 80000 ton Tillman with 15 18/50 guns like just able to squeeze into the Panama Canal, for the N3s I just mentioned them since their a bit easier to find than some of their other designs. Plus a 100,000 battleship is just ridiculous prior to the 1970.

    When an area is destroyed repeated hits will have no effect as there is nothing to damage. This is why you noticed decreasing effect at the bow of the enemy battleship.

    Stealth I have a idea for you ..taskmaster ..Missouri/Iowa class battleship 1940 ..the enemy gets 3 battleships 4 heavy’s..sink all ships and you must have 16 or of a higher caliber with little secondary and good about of amor ..hope this makes it in your taskmaster as I’m currently watching this video… love your content

    To patch any sizable hole on a ship, we just get any bunk bed mattresses or anything bigger than the hole to stop the flooding and secure it with wooden planks. Or just close the whole compartment during General Quarters.
    I know, i work in the Navy. And it is tiring.

    You could show us the might of the Battlecruiser by puting 3 of them against a numerically superior enemy fleet consisting of something like 1 Battleship, 3 Heavy Cruisers, 2 Light Cruisers and 2 Destroyers. You could play as the germans facing off the british during the Battle of the Atlantic (1940), with the battle commencing at a range of 30km as the brits spot the german convoy raider's smoke and move in to engage them.

    I have found that swatting DD's and CL's requires 5" guns and lots of them!
    if 5's won't fit, use 4" guns and stick them everywhere they will fit.

    4:40 the middle-most secondary was able to superfire with the taller barbette but you changed that. The green arc indicates it's fire arc

    believe it or not the first thing they do is put a peice of wood or metal on it. then pump out the compartment with a pump, two types a submersible pump or one that uses a 2.5 in hose, both are kept on board in a repair locker.

    Scenario: Thunder in the South Atlantic
    Alternate history where the American Independence from the British Empire happens during the Great War. A British transport flotilla of 15, escorted by 2 post-Dreadnought era Battleships and 2 Destroyers, is ambushed by a raiding party of more advanced and more numerous Heavy and Light US Cruisers, 3 CA and 6 CL.
    Take command of either the British, constructing the older empire cruising Battleships (Long range minimum, 1910 tech) or the modern US Atlantic raiding flotilla, constructing the CA (Medium range, 1915 tech). The historical records of this battle will put initial manoeuvres beginning at a distance of 15km, to allow positioning and such.
    If you choose Britain, the transports survival is top priority, loosing any more than 6 will severely damage production efforts. In addition to that loosing the Battleships will also be heavy blow so they must also survive.
    If you choose America either the Battleships or Transports are your target, destroying both BBs is or sinking 9 transports is your victory condition. Do not take this mission lightly however, the ships under your command represent a massive technological and financial investment and their loss will reflect on you poorly, loosing any more than 6 ships or all 3 Heavy Cruisers will be considered a loss.

    PS: I don't actually have this game, so if you feel like any of these constrictions need adjusting to have a more balanced game (outside of tech and ranges) I will not take it as a slight, I just want a smaller older but heavier escort force taking on a lighter but newer raiding force.

    Scenario here... Build a US battleship designed to absorb damage but also has multi-caliber guns. Needs at least have one of each turret ranging from 20" to 14" mains and torpedoes in underwater, double, triple and quint then the rest of the armaments is just pick n choose. Maximum bulkheads and displacement, no range and whatever speed you feel safe with... My best build took damage from 58 torpedoes and 3,872 dmg from 13,000+ shells that hit it.

    At 38:00 I don’t think it’s a bug. It’s simply waiting for all turrets to aim on target so they can fire a full volley instead of missing some turrets.

    I have an idea, and a couple of titles for an episode, either: David(s) vs. Goliath, or: The Charge of the Light Brigade! (There was a Brit BB named: Goliath I believe, and for the latter title, maybe you could have British TB's attacking a Russian BB? That would really mimic the real event, since the British light cavalry actually reached the guns, albeit briefly!
    I watched where you attack a Dreadnaught BB with torpedo boats. One episode was with one top-of-the-line TB with 5 single launchers, and the other with two TBs. What you have not yet tried was to swarm the BB. In short, use numbers and different tactics, and expect plenty of losses!
    Put simply, make 5-7 TB's, as small, simple and cheap as possible, with only a single gun on the front, and a single torpedo on the rear. Make them reasonably fast, but you want numbers, not quality. In short, a simple bridge, fast, but not blazing fast (you might have to chase the BB), cheap propulsion, a full set of funnels, cheapest possible pop-gun up front, and a single cheap torpedo astern. Best possible reload time, but not at the expense of money or tonnage. Even consider a smaller diameter cheaper, slower torpedo, since only a few will do the trick and you will be firing from short range. Remember, the smaller the boat the better, this will reduce their target size and thus the chance to be hit.
    The difficulty here is twofold. First, you must close the range, so speed will help with this and it will also lessen the time spent under fire. Second, you will have to break the line-ahead 'division' idea almost immediately, and send all of them directly at the BB, aiming ahead of the beast so that they all close up on him. This means a lot of micromanaging of 5-7 TBs, but you can go full speed ahead, and just go up and down the line making small zig-zag corrections to each TB as you pass down the line. First 'zig' all the TBs in succession, then go back quickly, run down the line and 'zag' all the boats. Rinse and repeat all over again.
    Another valuable tactic, especially once you approach the 1km line where the accuracy of secondary fire, even from case-mate guns becomes excellent, is to have one of the TB's launch its torpedo, and then immediately go into a doughnut while it reloads. The BB will have to turn to evade that torpedo, and this will throw off the aim of the BB's guns while it is turning. Meanwhile, the rest of your boats will be closing. Ideally you stagger your timing of launches, so that reloads will come on board in an even fashion. Eventually, you will outmaneuver the BB and be able to hit him from multiple angles... at least that is the plan!
    It will be fun also, to see if the game rations out the secondaries across all of the TBs as they close on the BB, or if it can only select one at a time. If the latter, you should succeed every time!

    i have never been in the navy but i dont think they have ppl try to patch the big holes like that they close off sections of the ship until they can dock and properly repair but this is just a guess haha

    Perhaps once an area of the ship is red perhaps it doesn't or can't take anymore damage, thus huge damaging hits in the game start and later smaller damage from hitting already destroyed areas.

    I recommend slowing down and seeing if that helps your accuracy. battleships were not known for being able to do 24 and be accurate. I would drop to 18-20 when at extreme range (I.E. not needing speed to play around with to dodge torps) and see if that fixes things.

    It would help if you actually devoted a bit to evasive maneuvering, like changing speed when the BC fired, slight changes in heading immediately after he fires and again after the salvo strikes the water. But your tactic should have been to charge him and hope the AI doesn't retreat, or the other tactic to use would have been to sail directly away from the BC and draw him toward you and away from BB support, and then turn on him in a full charge.

    Is Armor Scheme actually taken into account as part of the construction OR is the game using it as flat bonus as other parts? All or Nothing is leaving a lot of "unimportant" parts without defense to save up on weight. So, what if it is detrimental to use it if you have 9+ inches of armor everywhere on maximum steel quality ie equal to 18+ inches overmatching the highest caliber of guns in the game and resulting in shell penetration being calculated by different method.
    Or on the other hand, what the point of Deck and Belt Extended IF you go by All or Nothing? Ignore it and lower both to 2 inches?

    So, I have no clue how the game calculates for armour but from what I've understood, your deck armour only needs to have a theoretical strength to withstands plunging fire coming from about 45 degrees, i.e. maximum ballistic trajectory, which the range closing in, the relative thickness of the deck armour goes up making the belt armour much more important.

      Good point, but in a ideal kinematic formula, it will be 45 degrees, but in the real world it tends to be a little less angled(relative to deck) due to drag forces and other factors. No idea how that is done in game though.
      Also some guns IRL have high angle and could theoretically fire like a mortar albeit I don't know of any historical instance this was done and doubt this will ever get modeled in the first place.

    Question for Stealth:
    When it comes to armor thickness, don't you have to account for the Krupp IV value? You had "+118% armor quality", doesn't that mean your armor is basically over twice as "thick"?
    Because in a different video you were confused how the enemy had 15.6 inches of armor when it said "armor: 1.5 - 7.8 inches" on the enemy's ship. Am I misunderstanding this or are you not aware of it?

A hypothetic open battle between italy and Austria-H (Tegethoffs vs Dorias), a goeben-like modern battlecruiser joyriding against russian early dreadnoughts and pre-dreadnoughts, brawls between the earliest dreadnoughts and the better ships approaching 1914 between whomever, treaty ship battles, a modernized old lady from WWI (something like the warspite) against state of the art but smaller 1940 ships(scharnhorst?)... anything but pure WW2 tech for your next foray, pretty please?

    Sails away and shows braodside for the entire battle, then complains once the enemy stops acting stupid and angles away...
    I recommend angling at around 45 degrees towards the enemy fleet and adjusting your speed to dodge torpedoes. 0 to flank to 0, manuevering slightly. Regulate distance to enemy with speed.
