I like how everytime Dave plays a Nirvana riff Taylor looks so ready to cover the song
Taylor is definitely just itching to play them
The rest of the band play them when Dave isn’t there
That’s because he’s the reborn kurt cobain
@@johnkramer5886 he should hate the song then lol
Taylor has no emotional connection to nirvana to be fair. It would never be his decision. He is ready to do whatever dave is ready to do.
I'd love to hear Foo Fighters cover Nirvana, but I do think Dave has made the best and most respectful decision not to.
Well said. And I agree.
They coverd Molly's lips....
ruclips.net/video/0vOSf5BbErg/видео.html
Took the words out of my mouth
@@iupiter.161 that is a vaselines song
That’s the right answer.
Dave still has dreams about being in Nirvana, and if he wouldn't feel right singing a song that Kurt sang then it's understandable. I can dig on some Foo Fighters songs on their own.
It was heartbreaking hearing about that.
I totally understand Dave's decision. In '93, I lost a best friend in a horrific car accident. I've always dedicated Hollow from Pantera to him, which came out the year before. Even as a lifelong musician myself, and all these years passed, there's no way I could perform that song live without f*cking losing it. Memories never die.
Sorry about your loss
@@djwalkerfemaledj Thank you
I love the song hollow I'm sorry that you lost your friend Ive seen Pantera four times live and there isn't a band out there that could touch Pantera their music is timeless
@@randybrinkley4421 Thank you. And very much agreed. I got to see them just once, Southern Trendkill tour with Anthrax and Coal Chamber. Dime is a huge inspiration to me as a musician 🤘
I don’t think pantera themselves ever played the whole thing it’s my favorite by them has breakdowns soft acoustic shit everything in between
TMI. I lost my mom when I was 7. I still cannot talk about her without tearing up. I understand his decision. Sometime it just is healthier to not invite in the inevitabile pain that would result from singing Nivana's songs.
I lost my dad at age 9 and my best friend back in 09. I think of them always...I know both your pain and Dave's...
I’m sorry guys
Too much info?
I think for Dave it would be very hard emotionally to cover a Nirvana tune, also for years he struggled to get out from under the looming shadow of comparisons with Nirvana, and suddenly covering one of their songs straight away people will be comparing the two bands once again. Dave is showing total respect to his friend and has went from strength to strength in his own right.
That is no longer true. Foo Fighters has a larger legacy than nirvana has now. At this point, it's just about respect.
@@rich1051414 i wouldn’t say a larger legacy.
I watched the RUclips videos of Dave playing the drum part to Smells Like Teen Spirit as part of his book tour. He played it to the recorded guitar parts and Kurt singing. It does blow you away when you watch him play the drums, because you realize what a powerful, skilled drummer he is. However, there is sadness in his face when he sits down to the drums. Then there is this total joy as he’s drumming. I get tears in my eyes when I watch him playing along with Kurt’s voice. It brings back what Nirvana, Nirvana’s fans and the music world lost when Kurt died. I totally understand why Dave won’t play Nirvana’s songs. He respects Kurt and wants to keep his memory alive.
I'm a Nirvana fan, not so much a Foo Fighters fan, but a Dave Grohl fan bc he's an amazing human and talented musician. I think Dave is being respectful by not playing Nirvana songs. And does anyone consider if that hurts Dave?
Maybe once every decade a song would be special, but there's no reason for FF's to play Nirvana songs.
Honestly I didn't really know he doesn't do covers of Nirvana, but this legitimately made me cry now.
Not a big fan of Foo Fighters I like Nirvana, but not really a huge fan, but hearing this you can see he lost a friend. I never really thought about it.
RIP Kurt. He is a Legend and will for ever in our hearts
I am one of those fans who wishes Foo Fighters WOULD cover some Nirvana songs in honor of Kurt Cobain. Dave is what we have left still touring & making albums. And Pat is a great part of Nirvana in my opinion. I would go nutts if Foo Fighters did some Nirvana songs out of pure love, heart & soul. No, of course Dave does not sing just like Kurt! But it is the fact that him & Pat ARE Nirvana too! If I knew he could cope with his grief after ALL these years, it would be a truly phenomenal experience to buy an album or go to a concert & amidst all the great Foo Fighters songs we could be pleasured by the memory of our beloved Kurt Cobain! If only...Never say never! Maybe one day!!!
As an “old guy” that has seen Nirvana live I agree. I would love to see them play Nirvana songs and I believe they have every right to however I fully understand the reasons he chooses not to.
no....please no........and pat was a great part until he start to get microphone(sound like a seagull trap in a bear trap)
@@sebg2086 He works well on on in bloom cuz high voice
@@RadicalSharkRS where ?! he sound he dying
@@sebg2086 🤣🤣
I love Dave honoring his need to grieve in his own way. How long it takes to heal, is how long it takes to heal. Much respect for him
While not an actual “Nirvana,” song, the Foo Fighters have played Molly’s Lips live, with Krist joining in.
They also played marigold with krist novesolic
Yeah, Dave solo, Nirvana b side, and foo release
@@jimvindedahl1376 Dave and Krist recorded Marigold
@Fred Sux Dave wrote that song though. He just recorded it with Nirvana
@@spencer2745 I just realized that I replied to the wrong guy in the last comment. Whoops. Anyway, yes, you’re right.
Dave's right. He has his own legacy of legitimately great material to stand on. Him playing Nirvana, is like sending a titanic survivor down to scuba dive in the wreck tbf.
Your comment is amazing!
@@nirvanaprincess9989 ty kind princess :) I really appreciate that little boost, whoever you are, you're awesome *hug*
submarine down to the titanic 💀
I totally understand Dave's reasons and I respect his decision 100%.
Ok, I'm a huge fan of both bands. I can totally understand how Dave would feel performing Nirvana songs. BUT, I also feel Dave and the Foo Fighters would be the right band to perform these songs. Just the pure authenticity of it would be spectacular. The level of respect all Foo Fighter members have for each note and each lyric of Kurt's songs is evident and I understand it's a tricky subject, especially for Dave. I've watched him in many interviews and he really has to control himself emotionally when talking about Kurt. But, I honestly think the time is right and there would be no other band worthy of playing these songs. Do it Dave 100%.....Life is too short.
No that honor is reserved only for the highly acclaimed Billy eilish.
If you weren’t part of the energy of those times, it breaks my heart, but there is no way you can understand. Dave is fully aware that he’ll never get that moment in time back, as much as he continues to rock for all our sakes now. It’s somehow eye opening and comforting, actually, that Dave recognizes and respects those days to such a deep extent.
So true… I have teenagers now and try to explain how world changing- and life changing, that music was- the energy of the times was unique- totally rare and awesome
Dave made the right choice to leave Nirvana where it was and to make his own career with his own music. Much respect to Dave for that.
Let the Music of NIRVANA " REST IN PEACE. Dave's decision is 101% correct. 🎸🕊
Honestly, If I were in Nirvana, and I witnessed/heard of Kurt's death, I would play his songs any chance I get, I would probably make my own band like Dave, but I would play his stuff so his music doesn't get forgotten. Kurt was a music icon, and an artist which influenced all of music today. We all miss you, Kurt. Live happily, don't do your normal drugs/any drugs, and just stay safe buddy. RIP
the remaining members do play nirvana songs all the time but in private. its their sort of therapy
I don’t think nirvana songs could ever be forgotten haha 😂
Me either. People still stream their songs and wear their shirts.
Kurt left a permanent mark on the music industry… his music will never be forgotten
Easy for you to say as an outsider looking in
I absolutely get it. Dave is a class act, even when the easy way out was there for him. Having said that, if I went to see them live and they belt out a Nirvana song, I would probably lose my sh*t lol
I think it was 2017 in Seattle, Krist Novoselic’s current band opened for the foo fighters and later in the show he came out with Dave and they did cover mollys lips. That was really cool to see
Good video 👍🏽
Dave probably thinks he will get emotional half way thru a Nirvana song in front of Thousands..Who can blame him...R.I.P Kurt!!! Thank You for the best childhood EVER
Great work. You should review your fans music they make! Start with one of my songs pleasee!
Then mine!! 🤘🤘
@@justthedrummer330 just checked out some of your songs on your channel. They’re good dude! I’ll keep checking in for new songs down the line.
Is your music half Charlie?
I don’t know that the Foo Fighters will ever do Nirvana covers, but since the HOF induction they do seem more open to having periodic Nirvana “reunions”. I think that might be Dave’s way of acknowledging that enough time has passed to play the songs, but without having to sing the lyrics. I would not be surprised to see a Nirvana tour at some point with a guest singer - perhaps with the Foo Fighters opening - as a way to give fans a live Nirvana experience. Or maybe a reunion happens at Lollapalooza at some point in the future with guest singers.
fun fact, in 2014 all the remaining nirvana members played smells like teen spirit replacing kurt with joan jett at rock hall
I was lucky enough to grow up in seattle as a teenager in the 90’s… it was an amazing time in history. I think some things need to be left alone, untouched & left as they were. To remain this magical, epic thing that we all look back on with nostalgia… remembering the good times. But I also think that if anyone can or should do it… it’s Dave. I think pulling one out for an anniversary of Kurt’s death could be out of this world amazing.
I absolutely respect Dave’s decision, but it would be so incredible to see him do one tribute tour or show at the least before he dies.
I 💯 agree with Dave
I just bought nirvana's with lights out. It ha previously unreleased recordings and I gotta say the experience is surreal. Some of the songs do effect you especially if you know the band history. It's crazy. If that can happen to just a fan, man imagine the grief this man is going through. Much respect to him for his decision
Right now Kurt has been gone 27 years, He has been gone as long as he lived
I can imagine Dave hearing Kurt’s voice when he’s even trying to sing a Nirvana. But I think it’s emotionally hard to do a Nirvana song. Although they did play with other artist singing on the rnrhof. That’s probably the best you’ll ever see.
It makes sense. Dave and Krist have both mentioned in interviews one idea before Foo Fighters was the two of them in a band together but they both decided against it.
I just really think Dave couldn’t sing like Kurt could to tell ya the truth
Yeah kurt had a raspy arghhhh voice bit hard for anybody to sing like that lol
@@warwatch there are literally hundreds of well known bands with singers like that.
They did a great Nirvana cover song with Krist with Molly's Lips and he's done Marigold also
WITHOUT NIRVANA, THERE WOULD BE NO FOO FIGHTERS. IMAGINE THAT
I would love to see the foo fighters cover Nirvana but you also have to look at the position that Dave and Pat would be in so much pain knowing Kurt is no hear anymore.
If Dave were to attempt to play a song ajd sing it and say he couldn't sing anymore im sure the audience would carry out the rest of the vocals for him
I love Nirvana but him being a member and with their success, I get it. However, I take a different approach. If I were in his shoes and had a very strong connection with a member who died, then after awhile, I might choose to grieve and process that way by playing those songs for a time, maybe the one who died's favorites that maybe I wasn't a huge fan of or something and just let that energy consume me and express through me and let their legacy live through those moments in a timeless fashion. I think as long as there is passion and sincerity and Dave sung it his own way, there would still be a lot of honesty and reverence and respect for Kurt in his performance but we all process differently and to embrace is hard to do when you never fully accept it. Grieving is hard and Dave is a very emotional guy who has a really big heart out there. I respect whatever he chooses in regards to Nirvana because he acts in love and honor with a pinch of bittersweet and savory. Let's not forget that for Dave, it is like opening old wounds. It isn't AS spiritually beneficial for him at all times and to cover the songs as a guitarist is likely what makes him most uncomfortable. He doesn't want Kurt's spot. I think that is why he can drum it out but he won't play and sing it without comedic relief.
Well said
Theres a video of FF playing Mollys Lips live. I think Noveselic was on stage with them.
Yes, i know its a cover ... but its a Nirvana song now.
Can you imagine how amazing it must've been to be dave when he joined nirvana and got to be in THE band that would change music with THE singer.. anyone of us can only dream of being in nirvana.. he actually was.. that is life complete 🙌 🙏
They did a Nirvana "reunion" in 2018 at Cal Jam where they played 25 minutes of Nirvana songs
Didn't Dave just recently drum to SLTS in NY for his book release?
I saw Foo Fighters on Mother’s Day a few years ago and Dave did a Medley of different songs on the drums and I remember hearing him play a snippet of Smells Like Teen Spirit
He plays a snippet of SLTS every now and then when they play Under Pressure
iv seen videos of 2 different nirvana tunes they played. One was "mollys lips" in seattle with krist as a surprise guest (i guess its not an original nirvana song, its a cover) and 2nd was "marigold" which dave sings lead vocals n sounds like a FF song. If anybody else knows if they have done it another time, please let me know.
I think he's made the right decision. I do like how they've been playing Molly's Lips in concert. A cover of a cover is as close as they should come, I think. I would give up my left nut to see Dave, Krist and Pat tour with Frances Bean, playing Nirvana songs, though.
just gonna copy paste this everywhere because my actual comment is gonna get lost... i understand the point of this video but like... do people not know there have been nirvana reunions live multiple times with all the nirvana members and a different singer of actual nirvana songs with the most recent beinf i think 2020... There was even a time in 2014 when Joan F'in Jett the goddess herself played lead guitar and lead vocals for smells like teen spirit with all the nirvana members, yes all the other 3.
I always felt that Serve The Servants Sounded like early Foo Fighters
Truth
Dave has said in interviews he'll have a dream where Kurdt shows up.
He's like "Dude! Oh my gawd!! Where have you been!? People are looking for you!" He wakes up and is sad.
He's said the first few weeks and even months he couldn't listen to music or anything....it'd make him cry.
He then buckled down (just like how he talks of when Skeeter left n SCREAM spit) he didn't know what to do. Music is all he's known and he put all his eggs into the basket.
He stepped out I to that uncomfortable zone and when it started flowing... he felt it "just felt right"
Kudos to Dave man! He's been through a lot and is still so humble and sweet of a soul!
Scope out SOUND CITY!
Its bomb and has a good amount of Nirvaner background stories in it.
Soundcity is where... what, was it a weeks time? The world was changed forever! Even still feeling the effects and seeing the impact to this day!
Those 3 kids would've never dreamt of what they were doing would have such an impact and had led to what it did!
Kurdt, Krist and Dave!!
3 cats that changed n shaped my life!... still to this day!
Hell... I'm 36, its almost been my whole life they came in and changed me!
🤘🎸🤘🎸🤘🎸🤘💚🖤💚🖤💚🥰🥰
I saw them play Molly Lips in 2015... but that was Nirvana covering The Vaselines
Respect, just pure respect for Kurt and the pain of losing him That’s what makes Dave a real class act.
I would love to see FF play a Nirvana song but I also get an understand why they don't.
I am sure they did in a concert in Maui I was at in early 2000! Dave took to drums and Taylor sung the nirvana number!
I like Dave to go with his feelings on this..if the right opportunity arrives, then yes!! Otherwise leave those times as precious memories and your fans will too.
wow, in that picture at 0:49 dave is totally holding one of Kurt's guitars, you can tell it's upside down because of the strings.
I would love to see the foo s cover dive
They play Marigold from time to time, which while it's a Dave song it was recorded by Nirvana and was a b-side to Heart Shaped Box.
Lets just call it unspoken or silent respect...it speaks volumes.what a band..love it...them
I mean if I lost one of my closest friends in a tragic and sad way I don't think I would want to sing something they wrote either
I just imagine dave going to the drums and taylor picking the mic and they start playing radio friendly unit shifter
I would like to see it. But it choked me up hearing his reasoning why he wouldn’t do it. He’s a good friend and a good man:
You're unit!
That 1st LP is a pure gem!
2 songs on Colour sound like that could've been Nirvaner songs!
3 in the 1st LP were in proposal for it!
Kurdt was just uneasy about asking to change the lyrics.
Alone & easy, Exhausted and 1 more
Maybe at the odd show that Krist joins them on stage which is very infrequent but would make for a great bonus to any show
I think it would be wonderful to see Dave play a nirvana song on like one of nirvana's anniversaries as a tribute. No more often than that I'd say, because I'd hate to see people coming after Dave and I think we all know a certain someone whose name starts with a "C" would.
Yep, I feel like he doesn’t want to stir the pot. I think Dave honestly is just trying to trust his gut, and I’d do the same.
just gonna copy paste this everywhere because my actual comment is gonna get lost... i understand the point of this video but like... do people not know there have been nirvana reunions live multiple times with all the nirvana members and a different singer of actual nirvana songs with the most recent beinf i think 2020... @@theDragoon007yaboiCJ honestly had no clue about that, but now i gotta look it up because that sounds like one hell of a performance
Ppl get upset that they don’t or think about how awesome it would be if they did (which it would be the best thing I’ve heard and seen in awhile) but just do this. Imagine someone older than you that you looked up to, suddenly asking you to join them and then they changed your life forever, you go on to see the world and make the happiest moments in your life then BOOM that person passes away…literally the equivalent to your wife or brother dying. So sad to think but I totally understand Mr. Grohl’s hardship and struggle w that subject. Hopefully one day he’s at complete peace w everything and finds nothing but joy singing those songs💙👏🏽
In an interview with Howard Stern recently Dave said that Krist Pat and him regularly get together and sometimes play Nirvana songs..... but he didn't say whether or not he sang....
Whenever Dave first busted on the scene with Foo Fighters, I was really hoping he would cover them at shows and what not. But honestly, I'm glad he never did and I hope they never do.
But they have played Nirvana songs. From the period of 2012 to around 2015, including at the R&R Hall of Fame gig, on several occasions they performed with Joan Jett taking on Kurt's vocals. Great performances, by the way.
@@bryanmack7463 Well, it's not like Dave Grohl has the best vocals in rock and roll. (No offense intended.) Nor did Kurt, really. My point being, that they will do Nirvana songs, just not with Dave or Taylor on vocals. ;o) I thought the performances with Joan Jett on vocals was pretty awesome, myself.
It doesn’t happen very often, usually it happens at anniversary shows or rock n Roll inductions is the only time you will see Dave Grohl cover Nirvana songs. But he usually does it with Krist at bass and Pat as well. He wants all the band members with him when he plays Nirvana songs.
I think as long as it was a one off, maybe for a big gig, just to honor the memory of Kurt and the band itself. I don't think it would be a bad idea, especially since Krist doesn't perform anymore, it would be epic just the one time.
I totally respect dave for his choice of what to do about playing nirvana songs. So many others would have sold out so quick to be playing the old hits and i admire him for not doing that. Of course id love to hear them do it once and awhile but i can totally understand at the same time if they never do! I do like how grohl has been doing the drums to nirvana songs with kurt singing, which is super cool, and that kinda leads me to think they wont ever cover those songs. Either way total respect for him and the band!
I understand.🎶
They did Molly’s lips one time , not a nirvana song originally but that was the only one I know of
I would love to see Frances Bean belting out her dad's songs with Dave drumming...THAT would be epic.
Once, just once, I'd love to hear Dave an the boys do "Breed". They'd own it
Yes , let's play
So sad R.I.P Kurt your still missed.
They did. They did Molly's lips with Krist as guest bass player. It's on youtube
ID love to here Foo Fighters Play Come As you are I hope day they Do.
Dave made the right decision. We did however have Chad Channing join the stage to drum all the songs on the bleach albums which was cool.
I see it now, in like 20 years (whenever their last show is) they play smells like teen spirit as part of it.
I love that the remaining members of Nirvana jam together and play Nirvana songs privately, I have enjoyed the tributes they have done to Nirvana with guest vocalists taking Kurts part. Violet Grohl did a kick ass version of Heart Shaped Box, Kurt would have been proud that his friends daughter honoured him so beautifully. Ultimately though, I prefer to listen to Nirvana with Kurt as lead vocalist, because let’s face it, no one can ever match his vocals or his growls, screams and intensity, he had a rare magnetism that no one can emulate
Highly respect Dave, he's an awesome musician. However Nirvana and Kurt especially had a great ear for melody. I guess it was a different time as well so I may be unfairly judging Dave by comparing his music now to Kurt's 40 years ago. Also, I think Dave's voice is lower than Kurt's so that would be even harder to pull off. Big shoes to fill, I understand why they don't do it.
He has said on multiple occasions it makes him really sad and wishes kurt were still here.
Wish they would…. Even if it was one a year! Or do a tribune album and donate all the proceeds to a music related national charity. Honoring Kurt (and Nirvana’s) impact.
You’re in the hall of fame. If you’re able to sing the songs we would love it.
As a singer I’m not sure if I’d be able to do it. As I can get emotional when singing my own stuff if it were a past friend I’d have to be in the right frame of mind.
I would like the remaining members to do a 30th concert of the entire Nevermind album, Not sure who they could get to sing it, Maybe Taylor could pull it off, I would say hologram, But I think the boys would break down
I was thinking the same thing about Taylor doing the vocals. I really think that he could pull it off.
Dave should pick one song he can really deliver on. Maybe bring his own artistic twist on. Do it so well it goes on the radio.
Gotta admit, as the only one that got a career out of them i have never been a Fan. Of Dave's music, but as a guy I love him. Very cool dude.
I appreciate that the only time they do cover Nirvana songs l, at their yearly charity event. It's usually Dave's daughter ot Joan Jett singing them. First time I feel it, chills.
I know it'll never happen but I think it would be cool to see Nirvana reunite with Frances Cobain singing. Again I know it'll never happen and that would be alot to ask of the band and Frances, but it would still be cool
I think the only way he should play them is on the drums with krist playing bass pat on guitar and another singer But that’s my opinion
Dave is a God of Music that’s why he thinks in that way… We have a very similar situation down here in Brazil with a legendary band called Charlie Brown Jr. and the disrespect from the guitar guys over the memory of the founder/front man (who passed away in 2013) is insane… Ego, Envy, Greedy, all that sh*t! So, YES! Dave is a honored man and proved 2 HUGE things, firat of all “the RESPECT” about Kurt and the whole Nirvana’s legacy and above all else, he showed to the intire f*ng world how badass he is to not associate or even use a single music from Nirvava to make FF to take off, which means, he’s a f*ng God of Rock! Love Ya Dave! All my respect for you!
I think he made the right call. It would be interesting but too many people would have too many opinions about it. I see why he's refrained from playing those songs
It would be cool to see Frances bean sing a nirvana song that fits her voice with the rest of nirvana. Like for an anniversary. One can dream
true friend god bless
The foo fighters play Molly's Lips. They bring Kris onstage to play bass on them and it was great.
I been wanting them to sing a nirvana song but now I understand why
My grandpa used to sing and play guitar. There are two songs i've heard him play live before he died. I can't sing those, because I start crying
Nirvana songs for the most part are simple to play but I haven't heard many covers really sound any good I guess it comes down to the way he played his guitar and his vocals oh seether do pretty good nirvana covers
Three Nirvana Songs on Feb 20th 2027 ... one for each member would be awesome.
