Also appreciated your focus on spin/bait fishing and not fly fishing which is most of what I can find when searching for info re: Boise River fishing. • @SilhouetteOutdoors
      @SilhouetteOutdoors  6 лет назад +1

      Tyler Nix with the 2 pole permit it is a great tactic to have in your arsenal! Or to fish two dead stick poles in different directions to cover more area. I used colored marshmallows growing up for years and so many times I would get a bite and next thing i knew my marshmallow was floating away. And I realized it was more to keep your bait off the bottom and an attractant, not so much that trout are addicted to marshmallows.. So I started using the corkies with the dead stick. Some reservoirs like Horsethief where there’s lots of moss on the bottom it is dynamite! Using this method in a deep hole in a river is great where the water is too deep to effectively get a spinner down to. It just really doubles up your chances to catch fish and an opportunity to try different methods. Thanks so much for watching and good luck on the water!

      @@rickhoward1516 That's why I really like hole hoping. Throw on some river shoes and shorts, hike and wade big sections of the river. Time of year makes a big difference in best times to fish many of those holes. I personally like the high and fast moving water of the summer. And make no mistake, there are a lot of big fish in there that you wouldn't imagine. There are giant brown trout well over 10 lbs that you just wont ever catch with typical methods. They wont even look at a worm. They are after minnows, mice, etc.. Right now is prime time though, as soon as the air cools down, the fish try to feed up for the long cold winter. I was lucky enough to spend all of my childhood summers at Magic Reservoir and my grandpa was a great teacher. Fly fishing is an entirely different beast than drift fishing, drowning worms. It takes years to perfect fly fishing. But I wouldn't be apposed to showing some basic tips and gear to get started some time down on the river in town. There is a learning process, some catch on faster than others. We live in a great state for it and anyone can learn to fish.

      The tail end of that hole just 15 yards down river is actually a better spot than that concrete block. But many times there are guys fishing there. That drift method works really good from the opposite side of the river (north side). And the nice thing about that is you can start at the top of the hole and work your way down to the end of it just above the bridge. Plan on wading out in the water for sure. But thats a great way to stay cool in the summer and catch a ton of fish!!

      This video was actually taken late winter/early spring while the water level was low. So this is the prefect time to use those tactics. When it get's really cold, the fish tend to be a bit more lethargic and stay in the deeper holes and that dead stick method with the corky works pretty good. There are, but you likely wont find them until you get down around Star. There's a few at the bridge there. And from there to the Snake river you'll find small pods of smallies and largemouth in the river. Usually in deep slow moving holes for the smallmouth and back water sloughs for the largey's.

      Street Epistemology that is one section I have not. I’ve fished by Glenn’s Ferry and a ton by CJ and Bruneau. Apparently it’s been a “fly-by” spot for me.

      Right after the bridge on Hwy 78, you turn down Indian something road....drive until you see the pumphouse. That's the only real access point to the water. I caught a huge Squaw fish on a top water popper. But ive seen some monsters swim by too...

    Cool Video thanks for sharing. That's the rules on keeping fish in the Boise river?

    • @SilhouetteOutdoors
      @SilhouetteOutdoors  3 года назад

      Most of the Boise river is 6 trout any size. But, when fish and game plants steelhead in the river, any rainbow trout over 20 inches is considered a steelhead and you need a steelhead permit to retain them. They also have special rules up stream from the Parkcenter bridge, so I highly recommend reading the regulations if you fish that stretch of river, tight lines..

      Hello Heather, this was at the Glennwood Bridge early spring, just before they raised the water for Spring flows. They regularly stock that location and as you can see, there are some nice natives in there as well!

    What size is the corky?

    • @SilhouetteOutdoors
      @SilhouetteOutdoors  4 года назад

      Luis T I use #6 and #8’s. It just depends on the current in the river. I’ll use the larger size with swifter waters. Smaller for calmer waters. And with poor water clarity I’ll also use a larger corky for visibility for the fish to find the bait more easily. Buy a couple sized and adjust according. Good luck!

    Have you done any fishing down the river towards eagle or star do you know of any good spots

    • @SilhouetteOutdoors
      @SilhouetteOutdoors  6 лет назад +1

      I've fished the south channel up stream from Eagle road and have done well! Right behind the Water Treatment Plant I've caught a few rainbows over 20 inches there. But, I always fished during the winter when the river flows were low. It's pretty much all private property on both sides and you have to be able to stay in the river and wade up to the good holes.. There is decent fishing at the Star bridge just up stream in that deep hole where everyone swims. There are small mouth bass in there also. I do much better in Boise during high water.

      Ryuga Seguchi I’ll tell ya, since this video, that spot has been hammered. Try more mid-town, or possibly Barber Park area. Glen wood does get stocked regularly. But these tactics will work on any hole throughout town. I like to throw on some river shoes and hole hop til I find the fish, great time of year for it to cool off!
