You are right I grew up using Pautzke salmon eggs. We lived on the north fork of the American river near South lake Tahoe. That was around 1961-1962 when I started fishing with them. Has been a go to bait of mine ever since.
I have had great success using the Garlic-E-Salmon eggs. Tip them on top of a hooked nightcrawler. Using a bobber or just sinking it to the bottom, the addition of the salmon egg has helped many times.
when I am trout fishing with Pautzke salmon eggs in The Creeks or streams. I use a small size 8 hook & a small size tiny itty bitty split shot and pretty much that's it. Then I cast it out wait for the trout to hit. In about couple of seconds after I cast out. it's like a Feeding Frenzy with the trout. With the salmon eggs I do catch some nice big rainbows and brookies.
I used to be skeptical about power Bait.. But I love these power eggs they work awesome I will say it is better to use 2 rather than one They Float. much better that way.
I like to just add one to the hook of the lure I am trolling, be it a plug or an apex. but sadly, it's banned in many of the lakes I fish. but I will also add one to a spinner for casting as well. it's amazing how good some fish can be at being able to just take the egg without getting hooked.
I grew up calling that a crappie rig in SW Michigan and we used it for catching dbl headers of yellow perch out on Lake Michigan. As I recall the packaging calls it a Crappie Rig.
Great job although I’ve had to develop these techniques through trial and error over the last 10 years and that polymer not I would do a drop loop keeps it even further away from your Main line and I use a fishfinder instead of an egg sinker sometimes you could have wind kicked up and have to change your weight out
You don't know. So you have to adjust different heights. With a bobber if it sits in one place the rig is stuck or hitting things on the bottom. With practice in spots you will learn the heights.
Thank you so much! I’m just learning and trying to teach my kids to fish with no one to help us 🤯... trial and error and im sure a lot of laughs from observers 😂😂😂
Great video!! But that whole thing about "real salmon eggs sink" doesn't really apply to this since they are stocked trout and I'm sure they do not spawn here.
Actually, it does. Many reservoirs, lakes and ponds have inlets and outlets where trout do spawn. And, keep in mind, if they sink and sit on the bottom trout aren't going to eat them. Knowing that salmon eggs sink naturally is a vital tool for all anglers minds.
I use the pautzke bait at the packs river use diffent kind of baits and I did not catch not one fish nor a bite Tony zuniga 3665balboa ct las cruces New Mexico may be no fish in the river
Go team Pautzke! Not sure who is saying that you can't use salmon eggs in reservoirs. It's one of my main "go to" baits solely or combined with another bait. Also, I disagree with you on setting it on the bottom. We have always put them at or near the bottom in reservoirs here in southern Idaho. Mainline to a swivel to leader to baitholder hook with the weight either above or below the swivel. And have always gone to Green Label as I personally think that it's the best. Good information though! Go team Pautzke! Best salmon egg products on the market!
seems like tying the salmon egg hook to the line below the dough bait would be a bad idea since the fish would bite right into the line if they ate the Salmon eggs. Seems like a great way to lose big fish
Why not just rig up a 1 hook flapper made of fluorocarbon so you're always just off the bottom at your desired depth, surely easier than a float unless it's the lead in the water being a concern?
Too bad they could not demo their technique by catching something. The ones at the end of the video with the baby trout they caught, was it their technique or just a simple set up?
im sorry but one of your eggs and a worm has been killer in the lake on the bottom. from bass and crappie to cats and sucker, but i like the slip bobber thing
This video helps a lot, I fish a local stocked lake and I only ever fished your product in streams but now I can use them in lakes.

Mark,
Thanks for being part of the family.
Do the salmon eggs work for wild trout?
When putting ur weight on the main line always remember to slip on a bead to protect the knot when tieing the swivel on. Tight lines! 👊🏽
I love the third setup I use powerbait and pautzke dough bait on the bottom
I like how the left earbud works when joe talks and the right works when Jeff talks
Those eggs are what I grew up with 55 years ago! I still use them!
Awesome video! Great tips for an ole Texas boy fishing trout for the first time.
Thanks for watching.
Im in the same boat im from northeast tx and im goin out of state with friends
I been using the 2 hook dough bait / egg set up for years with much success .
Nice video. Going to have to try the salmon egg and power bait setup on next trip out. 👍

Great set up for clear water steelhead fishing.great info video

Shawn,
Sometimes we drop down to a size 16!

Thanks good techniques. Do you have a rig that avoids eels when lake fishing for chinook salmon? Regards, Frank
Good tutorial. Thank you
What knot is it again at 5:15 for attaching the egg hook to the leader line? Thanks!
Palomar
On that last method how are you keeping that rig and your eggs off bottom without bobber?
Thanks and I use Pautzke salmon egg and it’s really amazing to use.
Great information and video Joe

I use two hook the way I learned here and I got two fish in one rod.
I grew up calling that a crappie rig in SW Michigan and we used it for catching dbl headers of yellow perch out on Lake Michigan. As I recall the packaging calls it a Crappie Rig.
very clear and well explained - thanks!
What a awesome video
Is there a list someplace for the bobber equipment that I should purchase for trout in a river?
Sean,
Bobbers should be available from any retailer that sells sporting goods.
@@TeamPautzke Thanks, what I mean is in terms of the specific size / equipment, etc., that was used here, is there a specific type to pick up?
What is the 3rd set up called? Can't find it and can't see it close enough in the video. Searched both brands.
For South Bend it is the TSR-10 or TSR-8. For Eagle Claw it is the Salmon Egg and Cheese Rigs.
Unfortunately using two hooks on a single line is not legal in my state. I wish it was though, cause this method looks amazing!
I drive by the Pautzke warehouse everyday and would love to do a tour.
I like big fish eggs and I can not lie
Is it effective on wild trout on untouched ponds and lakes?
Too effective, when fished properly.
@@TeamPautzke I will try out a jar this weekend, i'm sure Canadian Tire has some available. I will update here then.
Can you recommend me a color?
Hi Andrew,
All the salmon eggs work well when used properly. Tire should have a limited selection.
@@TeamPautzke Aye... I got me the Pautzke Fireball Red eggs. Will try these, hope i catch fish with em
I use " indicators" Fancy name for fly fishing bobbers that easily attaches to your line to keep my salmon eggs off the bottom.
We do that sometimes, too. Works well.
Agreed,Same here
Using the slip bobber how does it know when you’re at 10ftish? Or how do you know?
What weight slip bobber should I use
Tackle box is not complete without that smell.

How do you know how tall the weeds on the bottom are?!
You don't know. So you have to adjust different heights. With a bobber if it sits in one place the rig is stuck or hitting things on the bottom. With practice in spots you will learn the heights.
Once you've opened a bottle, how do you keep it from spoiling or going bad.
Normally, most people use the jar the day they open it. The fish gobble them up quick! If you don't pop the seal they won't go bad.
I havent had any luck with salmon eggs. Is it because I'm only going for the stocked trouts?
Then you aren't fishing them properly. Salmon eggs have been the most successful trout bait in Cali since 1934.
What kind and size hook for the inline drop shot?
I love those salmon eggs I just went up to donkey creek in California and caught 8 fish with those
I like Jeff Bezos giving me fishing advice, also I buy everything on Amazon!
Me to
😂😂😂😂
Cut it out
I like green label and on the bottom fishing 🎣 in lake and pown not much in to bopper fishing.
What rods do u use
We aren't married to any specific rod. Having good bait is more imperative.
Nice video!
Thank you so much! I’m just learning and trying to teach my kids to fish with no one to help us 🤯... trial and error and im sure a lot of laughs from observers 😂😂😂
Most would be friendly and willing to give you a tip or 2 to fish your area
Do you use fluorocarbon line with salmon eggs
Hi James,
That depends on the clarity of the water. If it's super clear then yes.
What size weight were they using????
That changes depending on where you are fishing: depth, etc.
@@TeamPautzke so what's a good size weight for a lake
That changes depending on the size of the lake you are fishing, what rig you are using, how far you are casting, etc.
Method 3. Those are standard two hook bottom rigs used by pier fishermen for decades in saltwater.
Great video!! But that whole thing about "real salmon eggs sink" doesn't really apply to this since they are stocked trout and I'm sure they do not spawn here.

I’ve actually seen brood stock laying eggs so I’m sure other trout eat them
When will be the next time you guys come back to NM
Riley,
It will likely be a while. We've been there three times in a year.

What’s the name of the song when the videos start?
We call that in Canada a "Pickerel Rig"'
Michael R. Foreman I call salmon eggs and salmon egg powerbait on a slipsinker rig the salmon egg surprise
nice

Nice

Carolina rig is king for lakes and res

Please watch the other 100s of videos we've posted. They show if it works - or not.
Those rigs at the end are pointless. Dropper loops or double palomars would achieve the same thing and be more cost effective.
just use a small corky to float the eggs of the bottom
And just think you can't use a normal hook in string in flimsy rod nowadays we're going for the biggest hardest best etc
im sorry but one of your eggs and a worm has been killer in the lake on the bottom. from bass and crappie to cats and sucker, but i like the slip bobber thing
Don't be sorry. That's a good thing!
Taste better than caviar...yummy
Count how many times Joe says "actual" or "actually"........ 😂
Drinking game?
Great info but the volume discrepancy is annoying.
I must have caught over 1000 Trout on These!
Is it called a double drag
(not really Rick and Morty) I like to eat big fat, juicey salmon eggs
So this whole video is basically a simple float a carolina rig and a pickeral rig!
Just add a live worm.
my right ear hated this video
Lets see this video title is "how to rig up" . Then he says there's another video on how to rig up. Am I missing something here?
hatchery trout will bite anything
All trout will bite eggs and artificial when fished properly.
modern version of the old trusty salmon egg sundae..
My salmon eggs fall off or squish when placed on my hook and im left with the shell?
Ninja k it’s cause their water hardened eggs
He tied in that salmon egg hook upside down. Anyone else notice that? Lol
Can I get any free samples I got enough junk in my tackle box!!!
Put a marshmallow on it.
Wher do you get a slip bobber?? Really?? Lol
Where's Julians whiskey?
