How to build a Mining Rig on a Budget

  • This video will show you how to build a mining rig with a strict budget. I have tried to do a build where I keep the costs down to help people who might not have a massive budget but still want to get into mining. In this build I really only buy three parts. Power supply risers and graphics cards. The rest I was able to get for free.

Also which hard drive are you using ?. I thought it would be a great science project with my nephew and I'm buying the parts to assemble it and just want to make sure I get everything right . thank you and thanks for the vids you got your self another subscriber.

When I look at the numbers on a small scale, the cheapest thing to do is get a used Desktop that has at least 3 PCI expansion slots. You can find these for $100 - 200. Then that covers your hard drive, MOBO, operating system, monitor, mouse, and keyboard. Then you just swap out the battery with a 600 watt one, buy 3 1050 GeForces, and a set of risers and you're pretty much there. The only last hassle is getting the computer to recognize the cards and configuring your mining .bat files and setting up a wallet and all that. You are not going to make a lot of money, but you can make about $60-90 per month, so the system will pay for itself in about a year. The good thing about a small rig is that it is totally quiet and uses minimal power, maybe $1 a day or so. Also, depending on where you live, it almost doubles as a room heater! I am mostly mining ZCash and PIRL right now. Once the system is set, you can basically forget about it. The three 1050s generate 2-3 dollars per day. But since it is all going into crypto, I see it as a long-term investment.

Mate Brilliant! I have been looking for this exact video since early 2020, instead I learnt mining by 100's of videos of other builds. Still very useful content from Vosk and RPM. All I wanted was step by stepo build, I searched high and low for months, but here we are June 2022, better late than never, even more excited your in OZ. Nice tidy job, was worth the wait, I'm buying a Dell as a "Transistory" office machine, then this I will do. Lotta talkin but I get excited sometimes out here in rural QLD, cpl hours from Toowoomba, plenty acres, time for Solar Man Mining Shed :)

I recommend getting used GPU's if you are just getting into mining, unless you have money to spend (I don't cause I'm a student). I got a used HD7990 for around 280 $ that has 1000k avg H/s (CryptoNight). Also a used 290x for 130 $ that has 500 avg H/s. I do however recommend to not cheap out on a PSU and buy a new one to keep your rig running smoothly.

What do you think?

This is a really interesting video ! Thanks for sharing it!
Since I am a newbie computer-tear apart ambitious miner myself, I would like to ask you for some help or advices.
That 65W power consumption its impressive , and to be honest with you I would love to be able to achieve a similar result.
I have a mining set up with one GPU Sapphire rx 570 4gb (Elpida memory), Bios modded and under-clocked; thats what I got so far using Claymore:
Etash at 28.5 HMS drawing 150w from the wall (85w only from the gpu)
Equitash at 250 HMS drawing 130w from the wall ( 75w only from the gpu)
Cryptonight at 700 HMS drawing 100w from the wall (50w only from the gpu)
In the video it seem you are mining some cryptonight at 600(ish)MHS ; at only 65w ! Is that really achievable?
Would you mind sharing some more information like the SSD/HDD and cpu model and power consumption ?
I would be great to have an hint on how the pc performs on Idle mode and perhaps to see how the gpu is doing on wattage itself while mining !
that would help me and I am sure lots people save some energy bill ( and in Belgium its not cheap :/ ) !
Cheers for your time and merry Christmas!

How would you get 5 card working? I don't see enough slots to plug in risers am I missing something? Just wondering because I have a similar computer and if I can get 5 working I'll get a bigger power supply.

    • @123myIT

the amount of cards you have is determined by how many the board can support some board can support 8 cards but only have 6 pcie slots. You can use adapters. I have not been able to test this rig yet but will do an updated video shortly :)
