Exactly. A lot of us amateurs don't have the time to get really consistent. Played a not-so-great round today, only 3 solid driver tee shots, one solid 3 wood tee shot, and hit the pin for the first time on a par 3. Few good shots but not enough for a good score for my skill level. Oh my God... that final point was gold. Learning shot shapes from "inconistency" and changing set up at address. Oh the irony of it all. This video was really down to earth, Chris. Thank you.
Great video. In spite of a lot of hard work at the range over the last year, I haven’t improved from a 3 handicap. After watching your video, paying close attention to the beginning with the grip, I realized that I was lacking a couple of fundamentals in that area. I implemented the neutral grip as you described and immediately noted the more consistent striking on the club faces of my irons. After getting more comfortable I took it all to the course and shot 1 over on the front and even on the back. Thank you for the great video. I’m a subscriber to the channel now and look forward to more content!
Hey I would like to thank you for this video I put this into practice today at the range and I have improved so much in just one session so thank you for that I can't wait for tomorrow to see just how much it improved my game
Fade irons lose carry distance, land soft. Draw irons run out, & if pulled finish off line. High irons lose run time; low irons may run more if I don’t dig too much!
I was so hoping that the next grab from your bag was finally going to be the magic dust that MUST be involved! 🤣 Seriously, although I appreciate you running through the "fundamentals", I'm wondering what a realistic amount of time or number of swings, a person should be doing to get that "muscle memory" to be able to automatically perform consistently on the course. And, I think some of the inconsistency a lot of amateur also experience comes from the fact that we aren't always hitting our shots from prime locations on the course.
Hey Ed, yeah I hear that a lot, theoretically the swing should be the same, so I would first check set up and then strike point on the club face as those two things can cause issues with the driver 👍
Unlike you, I am inconsistent hitting iron shots (pulling them left probably from swinging over the top), but hitting 12 or 14 out of 14 fairways with my driver. Switching to a Ping G30 SF (straight flight) driver helped me hit most fairways. Just close the face slightly at set up, take the club straight back the first two feet, hinge the club face up, then lead with the lower body before swinging in a in to out path toward right field. Good luck.
You make the swing look so effortless, my problem with consistency is impact, meaning hitting top, short, I have no problem with aiming or direction just solid impact on a regular basis, I feel my set up is okay, trying to focus on takeaway, (speed and direction) shallowing out the club, hip movement to begin downswing and follow through I may hit the target correctly maybe 15% of the time, I am 62yrs old, so I don't expect to smash it, but after being away from golf for 25yrs, getting 200yds with driver is okay..just wish I could strike the ball at the ball all the time..Is it possible that some people(me) just doesn't have what it takes..my short game is fine, long game has always been my weakness..
Experimenting that’s what I’m doing right now , I am even treating myself to the Mizuno 919 or 912s on the 9th of December Chris time for a fitting never been fitted before playing off 10 so let’s see if I can get a single figure 🙏 .
Love this drill. How does this eventually end up becoming part of your swing? Is it a case of just doing repetitions of the drill at the start of a session?
Excellent Chris. Its quite odd but if you visualise a fade or a draw somehow the body adapts your swing to bring it off. I have played for many years so my body has learnt to do it through trial and error I suppose. Thanks David
David that is the best way to play, once you have trained abs developed the skills, you can head onto the course with just the shot in mind abs execute, that’s the ideal way to play 👍
Great vid again Chris just wondered when courses are open again would you fancy doing a vid with say one of your pupils and play say 4 holes and explain your format on the course and give us mere mortals😊 a idea hope you set up playing different holes .think you would be great as you explain things so well 👍
Another very useful video, Chris - developing a neutral everything is a great platform for consistent golf. A couple of points, though: a neutral grip doesnt achieve much if the clubface isn't aimed at the target and (sorry!) your two pitches into the ravine were waaaay left ☺
Hey Rich, thoug to say without seeing the swing, but it will be most likely losing the body angles into impact, or the club shaft being too steep during the downswing 👍
My iron game is totally consistent. Every swing is a state of confusion and I have no idea what is going to happen.
Precisely my issue...incredible how each shot is an adventure in odd geometry...
😂🤣
Ha, ha. Best comment by far😀
Couldn’t of said it better 🤣✊
Lol consistently inconsistent

Wow hit the pin on a par 3!! Must have been close to going in! Hope the vid helped and yeas that last point is so important 👍

Best coaching video's around. I'll be at the range practicing this today! Thanks Chris
Thanks Rolf appreciate that 👍
“If we can aim straight, swing straight, point the club straight, the ball should go straight. Solid advice
Chris, Thank you for this video. I have watched a lot of instructional golf videos and this is right up there among the best I have seen.
Funny, I spent my 2 hour practice session at topgolf doing just this .. this morning. Finally! Got ahead of you on 1.
Great to hear and super useful to do 👍
Hey I would like to thank you for this video I put this into practice today at the range and I have improved so much in just one session so thank you for that I can't wait for tomorrow to see just how much it improved my game
I love your videos. I need to watch more!
Thanks
I have a very difficult time especially with my hands, do you have a video on hands going through the swing?
Fade irons lose carry distance, land soft.
Draw irons run out, & if pulled finish off line. High irons lose run time; low irons may run more if I don’t dig too much!
Best content for beginners in YT seriously. If you have buddies wanting to learn golf get them to subscribe to this channel
Thanks appreciate that
Great video Chris, can’t wait to practice next week and see the fall flight
Thanks Lewis hope your good
All good thanks, hope you and the family are well. Wondered if you were taking bookings for feb?
I was so hoping that the next grab from your bag was finally going to be the magic dust that MUST be involved! 🤣

Great video Chris once again. I am very consistent iron player but when it comes to a driver I am very inconsistent . any tips for that..thank you
Hey Ed, yeah I hear that a lot, theoretically the swing should be the same, so I would first check set up and then strike point on the club face as those two things can cause issues with the driver 👍

With the grip I was told to hook my right hand small finger under my left hand index finger when gripping. Is that not correct?
Notice you used a tee when striking ball.Is this a good rule to use in practice?

Wow bet you can’t wait! And yes experimenting is valuable but also fun 👍
Love this drill. How does this eventually end up becoming part of your swing? Is it a case of just doing repetitions of the drill at the start of a session?
Another good Vlog Chris 👍👍👍
Thanks appreciate the feedback
Haha after 10 minutes of explanation, he goes to hit it, and it goes directly left 😂 that’s golf for you!
And that was a good one for me 🤣
These checkpoints applies to all irons?
Awesome video Chris, I’ve got my mevo plus all set up in the man cave, will be working on these drills. 😀😀😀
Love it! Great for practice
3 things to bring to a deserted island:

Golf balls

😂😂😂
Don’t forget your alignment sticks
I’m all in, when do we go? 😂
I'm a big fan of Chris but vote for a pretty girl instead!))

that alignment line doesn't look like it's lined up to the Target it seems left isn't it

Hey Gordon, I actually have some plans to do this, so great idea. Not exactly sure of the details yet but will involve a student on the course 👍
Thank you Chris look forward to seeing you teach on the course 👍
GREAT video 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thanks 👍
Another very useful video, Chris - developing a neutral everything is a great platform for consistent golf. A couple of points, though: a neutral grip doesnt achieve much if the clubface isn't aimed at the target and (sorry!) your two pitches into the ravine were waaaay left ☺
Thanks John and yes both valid points 👍
Chris, I'm consistently hitting off the toe. What can be causing this?
Hey Rich, thoug to say without seeing the swing, but it will be most likely losing the body angles into impact, or the club shaft being too steep during the downswing 👍
Thanks for your help. Your videos are great!
Awesome video.
Thanks Jamal
Done
Great
Good tips. Do you consciously think about striking in front of the ball?
I personally don’t know, but it can help for some
I’m consistently inconsistent
would be more convincing if buddy could keep a shot in play
