This is the second time Obama has singled out Las Vegas in one of his speeches. The first time he slammed Las Vegas things went down hill in our city with the cancellation of many conventions and meetings that were scheduled. Oscar Goodman mayor of Las Vegas is absolutely lived about the comments mad by Obama and say we will not except an apology and he also stated he will do his best to give Obama the boot when he tries to visit Las Vegas later this month. It will be interesting to see how Las Vegans react when Obama comes into town.

And the real reason people come to Vegas is to have a good time, not get rich if that is what you think then you are the one with major issues
I like the fact that the Mayor is talking down about Obama. He's not a God, but everyone is treating him like one. Obama should of started a rock band, not become the president.
I live in Las Vegas and I am effected deeply by the economy here. If Obama had only said it once I could let it slide. Now a second time? I will be FIRMLY standing behind my wonderful mayor...

@gargost ...1. Gambling generates tax revenues that fund legitimate programs and EMPLOYS many people in service-related industries.. 2. Prostitution in NOT legal in Las Vegas, so the city generates no income from it. You're right...better for companies who took TARP money to move their conventions to cities where there is no illicit activity & a higher Christian populus, like San Francisco or LA. @gargost ...and it costs Detroit less than $4K to produce a car, yet they charge $20K. So don't support Detroit. And they pay farmers subsidies not to grow crops, so don't support any state with farms. There's quite a bit more to Vegas than the "excess" you see on the Travel Channel...and there are honest and faithful Christians who live here and have nothing to do with the Strip. You're as clueless as the President is...

What is wrong with saying that we shouldn't blow our tuition money in Vegas? Give me a break, gambling drives people further into misery. Those that have money, let them do what they will, but most of the people that gamble do so with the little they have left.
And yes, Las Vegas is a place of excess!!! Any honest and faithful Christian knows that, and should not support Vegas!
You are talking about him showing up for one weekend with maybe 1000 idiots following him around. That is piss ant revenue. The damage he causes by saying to Americans not to come to Vegas hurts our economy weekly. There is way more to do in Vegas than just gamble. He should have just deleted Vegas out of his speech. Should I not vacation in Atlantic city because there is gambling there? Obama shouldn't single out any American city in a negative light, which one is next yours?

Well, there is a difference between spending money and blowing money, this man wishes that people will BLOW all their money on Vegas while the president talks about being wise in tough times!
I'm sympathetic to it there...I like it there and have unimaginable ideas that would not only change economy but even change geology....Help those and make it self sufficient.
I wouldn't go to las vagas because I don't like gambling it ruins peoples lives but I wouldn't have said what obama did because it was a jerky thing to say.

@bpersohn- the excess I'm talking about has nothing to do with how much it costs to produce anything. The mayor of Las Vegas it is not complaining about people not coming to enjoy the nice Christian life of Vegas. He is complaining about Obama's comment affecting the gambling and prostitution industry- a great source of revenues for the city. Gambling and prostitution are supported by the majority of Nevadans. Don't come telling me that this modern Babylon is full of wonderful Christians.
Hopefully Obama will have something in common with JFK !
