All that's left is to add a smart battery shunt in the DC Neg cable where it comes out of that battery box and you will have the Fuel gauge for the batteries! Awesome tool to help keep the batteries topped off.

instead of changing the plug over you could get what's called an automatic transfer switch, its normally used to switch between generator and shore power, but small ones exist that would work perfectly for your setup.

I like how you used the yellow ext. cord wire for the runs, looks clean.

    Hi,
Nice setup by the way. Probably the best explaination video I have seen yet and I have looked at quite a few.
Was wonder how you wired the solar into it. I see you show the wires from the solar panels in to the converter but from there where?
    Thanks,
    Scott

Just the Video I was looking for. Great job. Do they make a Converter-Inverter combo?

I have looked everywhere for this info. Thank you so very much for this video. I also have flex panels on a cargo trailer with ac and dc also. I am going to be a full time nomad in my 14 ft cargo trailer. 7 high and 7 wide cargo camper. I knew the parts but did not know how to connect all together. Have you considered a transfer switch rather than plugging and unplugging the convertor?

Have question I don’t know if you can answer, I like your set up but, my question is that I’ve been watching other set ups and they have a surge guard right after the wire that come in from the shore power do you know why ? Why don’t you have one? What’s a surge guard ? Thanks

You did a fine job with that trailer. The best one I’ve seen so for. Have you ever thought about making money building those for other people?

I know it's been a while - but what is that right below the solar charge controller and then how does that hook into the system? Does the cables from the controller go to the bus bar? Or into the Converter, or straight to the batteries? Top notch job on this system and thanks for sharing -

I am converting an enclosed trailer to a camper conversion. I think you explained the DC, batteries, and converter pretty good to where I think I understand, and I think I got it. Just a quick clarification question. Do I connect the battery and the converter (also a battery charger) to the same positive fuse block and same negative ground block? If I'm plugged into shore power the converter supplies the power to the 12 volt fuse block, and charge batteries? And when I'm disconnected from shore power then the batteries supply power to the fuse box? So both are connected at the same time?
    Thank you in advance.
    Robert

Nicely done! I'm assuming there are 120v appliances that are powered by shore power when you're plugged in, and then powered by the inverter fed from the batteries when you're not plugged into shore power. But how do you make sure that the inverter AND shore power don't BOTH feed your 120v appliances and outlets when you plug into shore power? Do you have an automatic transfer switch of some kind, or do you do this manually?

Hey - Love the setup and how you demonstrate the entire thing in a way that's easy to understand. My question: Is the power converter not GFI protected, since it is not downstream from the outside GFI outlet? Thanks again for these incredibly helpful videos. You are a fantastic teacher!

Thanks again for part 2. I would really like to know how much money 💰 I’m going to need for this build. Do you think you could do a cost break down? I’m still trying to save the $8000 for the trailer I want.

WhiteOak 26 take your time, like I said. I’m still working on that $8k for the trailer.

Great video and systematic planning. Does your converter/charger wire to the positive bus or the battery directly or the DC distribution box?

    • @dr.brianadams6542

WhiteOak 26 Great thanks! One more quick question, could you have substituted a 300a circuit breaker for the 300a fuse and on/off switch coming from the house battery to the positive bus? Seems like that would work as a switch and a fuse?

Another couple questions for you, did you wire the ground to the neutral bus? Also your converter is a 60 amp, why doesn't that trip your breaker?

WhiteOak 26 hey whiteoak I'm finally starting this project, one quick clarification. On the 120 breaker box how did you deal with the ground? Did you tie it into the neutral bus and did that tie to any other ground (I assume not the frame?!?) Thanks for your help
