That was a savagely unfair summary of the positions of Cal Newport and Scott Galloway. Sleazy move. Otherwise a strong video, with good points, well argued, and well presented.
I appreciate the comment, Jeremy. That was not at all my intent, but having rewatched the video I can see where you're coming from. My intent was to highlight two of the most prevalent viewpoints I've seen on this question: the follow your passion view vs. the follow money/practicality view (and I wasn't intending to do a full summary and critique of their positions, but rather to point out that we're often presented with a false dilemma to choose exclusively either passion or practicality). I'll link the two main videos I watched from Professors Newport and Galloway, so anyone who stumbles onto this video can form their own opinions: ruclips.net/video/sjiP6sDyN-E/видео.html ruclips.net/video/EZIPjKbry1w/видео.html I want to emphasize that I respect them both as intellectuals, their content is well worth watching, and I have no doubt they've helped many people. I'll also pin your comment so hopefully this gets seen. Take good care!
I am so glad that the algorithm recommended me one of your videos and i took the time to watch some of them. Your videos give me really some hope in challenging times. And not even hope, but also a plan to how I can help myself to feel better. Thank you!
I was checking your channel just yesterday and wondering if you would post again soon since it had been a while. So glad to see your video pop up. These days in regard to success, I get reminded of this quote "Everyone fails at who they're supposed to be". I feel the older I get, the more unsuccessful I am because who I am becoming doesn't match the general idea of success. It's truly a privilege of a lifetime to become yourself. And it's an ongoing journey.
Thanks so much, RNITHYA! I love that quote as well, and I appreciate you sharing your insights and for your continued support for what I do. Big love to you as you pursue your ongoing journey, my friend. PS This video should've been out sooner but I had a minor hand injury which made editing a lot slower than usual!
I rarely comment on youtube. However, your content is the best. I always go back to your videos to keep myself on track. I am a young entrepreneur from the Philippines who is on a constant back on forth from "I may have made a mistake, I'm not built for this" to "I can do this, my time will come" Your wise words, backed by research and sources, has made a profound impact on my mindset. Keep doing what you're doing, you are a blessing to us.
Thanks so much, Kix! I appreciate you taking the time leave such a kind and heartfelt comment. It warmed my heart to read, and your support means the world to me. Feeling like you've made a mistake and second-guessing yourself is an absolutely normal part of the journey. Keep doing what you're doing too, my friend. Big love to you and yours
Just as someone elso mentioned in the comment section. I also rarely comment on videos. But your channel is a exception. Your channel is pure wisdom. I believe your videos can help many people who are struggling in life with different dilemmas. I hope you continue to create videos because we need this wisdom in our day and age. P.S. i have missed this video uppload. But now when i went back to your channel i found it. And it spoke directly to me. Im in the mist of figuring out what i want to do with my life. And this came as a bliss. Sincere a nurse from Sweden. 😇
Wow, thanks so much for taking the time to leave such a kind and heartfelt comment, Johan! It really warmed my heart and made my day. Thank you for the important work you're doing as well. Big love to you and yours, from Canada
I rarely leave any comments But this time I'd like to write something I'm currently struggling a lot with moving forward in life due to a shitton of inner demons. I feel like I'm this close to finally succeed. But at the same time the closer I get, the harder it is for me and the more pressure I feel up to the point of unbearable Your thoughts help me with going through this, because sometimes just saying things to yourself is not enough and you need a voice "from outside" Especially when this outside voice is telling you things you resonate with So yeah, thank you for all the work you're doing Really appreciate it
I really appreciate you too, Libby! I'm rooting for you as you move forward on your journey. It takes tremendous courage to follow your bliss. Big love to you and yours.
Philosophically, I have always felt that if people could get up in the morning and attend to their interests in life, All positions in the work field would be filled by people would have a passion for the tasks
Hey man. Thank you so much for your really inspirational videos. When I watch it - it give me a hope and an inspiration. You are amazing. Thank you for sharing your vision about passion and all that things!
Was unable to comment when first viewing this segment. Viewed a second time! So appreciate your channel. Thank you! I came to know the same as you. Required several years however. The two erstwhile knowings that contributed the most: Asking many times over, Who am I? Why am I here? What am I to see and do in the interim. And most of all, taking action. Break pattern! Seek signs and symbols. Ask myself, what do these signposts and symbols mean. Seek meaning. The tool that contributed most to that which I noted-I found a book in 2005, The Artist’s Way. Began journaling. Attended the author’s 12 week workshop after moving cross country to Santa Fe. My life has never been the same! 💖🤠💖
Nice job, the blended approach concept with bliss being the intersection of what you love, what you’re good at and what is needed really hit the mark for me. It’s both practical and aspirational. My bliss, which I am still finding has to do with communication, the divine and transforming peoples ideas of what life is about.
Hello! I always check to see if you have downloaded a video. I love the thought provoking, inspiring videos you put out. I always share them with my sons. This video resonated with me as I retired, back in May, and relocated to our ranch. I have recently started writing as it is something I have wanted to do since my youth. I didn't do much during my peak working years (RN), as I was divorced and raising my sons. Now, I have the luxury of time to enroll in writing courses and research story outlines that I have been sitting on all these years. I dream a great deal and some of my stories come from these dreams. In your video, you discuss "affordable loss." I am grateful to devote time and money to my book projects, whether I make money on them or not. I wish everyone devotes at least 15 minutes a day to their passions...I regret not having done it sooner. Regret is a hard thing to live with as one is left unfulfilled and yearning for more. Gods blessings ❣
What a beautiful comment, SilverTree. Dreams are such a rich source of inspiration for me too. I have the same wish that more of us can find time to devote to doing the things we love. Big love to you and your sons as you embark on a new journey of writing and sharing your stories and creativity with the world ❣ I appreciate you, my friend
I had a nudge to watch your videos and this is the one I have felt drawn to and also since I didnt see this one yet! It brought tears to my eyes!! Thank you!
Something I'm continuing to learn is that the desire to obtain success can always change and look different for each individual at different stages in life. I love what I do but the money is not sustainable so I have to find something in me to move in another fulfilling direction. It's ok to start over😢Thanks M.I. for the confirmation.
Another great video, Elson. I always like these into the first minute of watching because of how much trust I have in your work. I really appreciate the way the universe expresses itself through you and your art.
You're the best, Sukhwinder, thanks so much. The universe expresses itself through you too and I get so much inspiration from you and all the wonderful people who watch and leave such kind and thoughtful comments here. Big love as always, my friend
Came across this video today, grabbed my journal and took the time to apply the knowledge to my own life. Thanks for the effort of making this video and the insight was very helpful. Have a nice day :)
“Belief comes only after you’ve taken action” “Looking for slow and steady progress” “Start by finding and making one small bet” “Look at what worked and what didn’t. (Paraphrasing now): tweak as necessary.” “Be patient, because it will take time to see results” “Small wins eventually add up” “And ultimately, you can define what success means to you, in a way that empowers you to live a life that’s true to who you are”
Ayyy, brother! You used my comment in the intro! 😃 This one is going to be helpful....rather, this one is _also_ going to be helpful. Along with most of the rest of your library.... The three-list breakdown was what I was hoping for. I'm not dumb, but sometimes I miss the simple steps everyone else seems to get intuitively. It's always been that way. I kind of just roll with it now. I'm going to try it on. I think things are on an upward trajectory for me at the moment, and hopefully I can maximize this momentum with some aid from people like you. Thanks again for your content. I truly believe the world is a better place with you in it.
Thank you, Spacegoat for inspiring this video, and for always being a bright, insightful and kind presence in the comments. This exercise was not obvious to me before I learned about it, and I'm really delighted to hear things are on an upward trajectory on your end. Big love as always my friend
Beautiful video with powerful examples and quotes! I have found meditation as an incredible tool to guide me to the life I love. Keep up the amazing resources, advice and stories!
Success….it really is such a relative thing that in many ways is subjective to your ‘starting place on the grid’. Of course there are outliers who hit the home run but they are at one side of the distribution. The more I move myself forward and help others do the same the more I see that the only person you can judge progress against is the man (or woman) in the mirror. That is to say that success is, in a lot of ways, outside of your control given the amount of moving parts. BUT, each and every day you can gauge your progress against the improvement in character, competence and capability habits that leave you very ready to seize the opportunities that will arise the longer you put in consistent shifts of effort. Yeah, the more I live it the more I see that whilst persistence is good, how consistent you are acts as a force multiplier. Onward & upward 👍
5:41 but I really am not good at anything. Believe me I never wanted that to be true. I have done a lot of self reflection over the past few years and I still come up blank.
Hello Muralath. Years later I learned that this exercise we did is very similar to the westernized presentation of 'Ikigai' as it is often presented in the west (although many would say it is not an accurate representation of Ikigai), and also Andre Zuzunaga's "Venn diagram of purpose."

Easy solution: Make the money your passion
IKIGAI
Hey Elson, I know you usually don’t do this but is there a way to contact you privately and talk?
Oh! This is icky guy!
Hello Muralath. Years later I learned that this exercise we did is very similar to the westernized presentation of 'Ikigai' as it is often presented in the west (although many would say it is not an accurate representation of Ikigai), and also Andre Zuzunaga's "Venn diagram of purpose."
Scott Galloway (who you show in the beginning) was cut short on the clips you showed. He says that you should develop passion through mastery. Find or build a system that creates financial security then, through repetition, once you master the art of making money you become passionate about it. It is just one way however it deserves a more detailed explanation. Thank you for your video.
Thanks for the comment Skipper!
