Did you hear the news that modernized Catalinas are planned to go back into production? And they've already got contracts, people are already planning to buy them. They have both military and civilian plans. Depending on how well it does, we may see a new renaissance for flying boats! Imagine if other companies see the Catalinas blow up the market and realize there very much is still a very profitable market for flying boats, and more new designs start popping up again. That's a dream for me.
Some Florida-based company that wants to start shipping by 2029, after a quick google search. I forget the finer details, but it gives me hope. Seaplanes are my favorite part of aviation history and I hope they do make a comeback if the modernized Catalinas do well.
What about a non flying boat? Just asking wether or not that’s possible despite not being the direct intended vehicle. Like when people made/make boats in Kerbal Space Program.
Sick, I was hoping that you'd be able to make flying boats in this game. I loved making seaplane fighter jets in Simpleplanes. Also it has to be said that your ability to make interiors on these bigger aircraft is insane. Great job.
The great thing about flyout is that it doesn't model stress concentrations and material fatigue, meaning your windows can effectively be as large and pointy as you'd want, especially with that large panoramic viewing window in the rear.
Love it, I have a soft spot for flying boats. My one critique is that it's honestly too small. Real examples like the Latécoére 631 were tall enough that you could stand up just about anywhere. Also missing a shower given that this thing's probably gonna be flying for an entire day on some routes. Those bubbles and lounge are a plus, though. Luxury of a zeppelin, speed of an airplane.
This is great Messier! You always make very engaging content, and this plane looks incredible, honestly, I'm surprised your able to get videos out as quickly as you do, so a little bit of a wait in between videos is probably perfectly fine with most of us. But thanks, I will 100% be buying flyout the day it comes out, and only because of you do I know it exists so thank you.
Your best project so far. It deserves some military versions, as transport (civilian too), AWACS, anti-ship, anti-sub, gunship, bomber and maybe an air refueler. Cheers!
Gorgeous plane, nice work bro! I also love the alt-history of flying boats being the mainstay of civil aviation; though in retrospect maybe it’s best we developed all those runways on land, I can’t swim lol
With a range of over 10K miles, "Albatross" is a very apt name! I see the dihedral right at the fuselage, but I was wondering: are the wings slightly anhedral after that point?
the plane itself looks great, but the interior could get some upgrades. for starters I like your idea of giving everyone cubicles, like trains, the problem is the weight balance, not sure how you would fix that, since there is not enough space for cubicles on both sides. also you probably want the dinning areas as close as possible to the center of lift because its the area with less turbulence, so people can eat comfortably even in turbulent weather. or on the other hand, you want the beds there, so people can sleep without vomiting. the kitchen is way too big, you could probably have like 10 cooks there and stock enough food for a week. you are also missing the crew sleeping area, so maybe you could reduce the size of the kitchen and use it as a sleeping area for the crew.
It's such an awesome game! Unfortunately, no mouse control. The one thing I and others expected to control our planes. Hopefully in the next update there will be so! Tip 1: Hotkey options: Can't combine hotkeys (Shift + 1) Just one number/letter Tip 2: Not enough controls: I can only control collective pitch, gearbox, lights, with a very limited amount of options. Would be great if all those things were in the list of Controls TIP 3 (Visual): I noticed the PropellerPitch visualisation doesn't work when it's controlled manually... I hear the prop change pitch but the visual of the prop (starting with fine pitch) is the same. Except when selected Feather. Then it shows the prop change pitch. That's it for so far. So much potential in this game! I can't complain.
If you're talking about a luxury airliner then you could also assume that they might develop a noise cancelling system for the engines, similar to how noise cancelling headphones work. It'd almost certainly weigh less than a bunch of insulation(which isn't saying much, since that insulation would likely be puffy foam) and it would provide a better experience which is what the selling point of a luxury aircraft would be.
you should of made one of the side pods an f16 style bubble canopy like those old 1950s Landseaire PBY Catalinas, i think it would really completed the luxury look, Calum has an excellent video about them if you want to know more
lets say hypothetically theres some sort of emergency aboard the aircraft while passengers are sleeping with very well made earplugs/muffs. in this hypothetical situation, would you have a VERY loud alarm aboard the aircraft to give the passengers time to brace/otherwise prepare, or would you forgoe an alarm system entirely to reduce panic. perhaps just a quieter alarm system specifically for the crew?
it would be pretty cool to have a “budget” aircraft made by this company aimed at making water/air travel as cheap and efficient as humanly possible without being a glorified flying coffin. basically a version marketed at small travel companies/private use
Well, you've done it again Messier! Your videos have once more made my day. Whether I watch the full video to see how you made it and all the design issues, or I zone out and listen to your calming voice describe the process along with the chilled-out music in the background. You truly are a master of your craft and every time I need to relax, I put on one of your videos. So thank you, and continue to make such entertaining content.
Before WW2, there were some insane concepts for truly impressive flying boats. The youtuber Mustard covered a concept I believe. WW2's mass deployment of people making airstrips everywhere did a lot to make the future of the true "skyliner" not come to fruition. Its an interesting thought on what-ifs. Side note, what if you tried reproducing something from the Disney Animated series, Tailspin?
I thought Zeppelins were the old flying boats...(?) Oh! Well, ok...take-off & landing from the water; not the large, luxurious, versatile take-off, landing, & docking airships that were awesome until the Hindenburg had to ruin the whole concept for us all. It would be cool though if dirigibles were a part of Flyout; it'd be interesting to try out hybrid aircraft...
Watching your channel grow so fast is awesome. I can’t remember how long I’ve been here but I remember watching some of your first videos if memory serves; at the very least you were still a pretty small channel. Keep it up man Also I can see this being more of a private aircraft, like the larger private jets people like drake have
My man, can u try to make the Curtiss Wright xp-71? It's a big heavy fighter with one 75mm in the nose abd two 37mm, also in the nose. I find it that is a very bizarre and fascinating plane, although is a shame that was never built a prototype, so can you satisfied my curiosity?
I think you need a second channel where you just have the planes autopilot until they run out of fuel. No VO, probably no music. Not me wanting a 8 hour vid of the glider :) but it would be cool to see them just fly and eventually at the end they just run out of fuel and fall out of the sky. Or attempt to land.
Could you please do the same however in reverse, create a C-5 (AC-5) Galaxy Super Gunship!🙏👍 The C-17 and B-52 and of course something of your own design!
One of my planned aircraft, the NC-550 FReD would be too big for a runway, so instead it would take off from water, and would stay flying for a long time. Im constantly redesigning it, so if you want updates let me know. (I know no one asked, just wanted to mention it cuz the video is about a passenger flying boat)
It would be cool if you made the billionaires pleasure yacht version of this plane. Instead of being a cruise ship it’s a smaller personal plane capable of carrying a group of maybe 8-12 in the sky in the most extreme luxury possible for extreme durations, without utilizing exotic technology like nuclear turbines. It could use solar power and hydrogen fuel cells. It would even have an retractable helipad. It would be so cool to have a swimming pool where the bottom is a transparent material, so you feel like you’re swimming through the sky.
Looking at the proppunk map, even tho theres the same amount of water navies dont seem like they would function the same since the oceans are not interconnected the way ours is. Im really curious how this would change maritime shipping and naval war practices.
I'm not sure it would be possible for the to occur permanently... One ocean would end up at a higher level than the other and a seas worth of water pouring into another would split the land mass again... I think there's a theory that something like that happened with the Mediterranean
First off, we don't have to get the albatross (name comes from the Albatross Company, a German company that used to make military aircraft during WW1 and WW2) cause modernized PBY Catalinas are gonna be planned to go back into production
Did you hear the news that modernized Catalinas are planned to go back into production? And they've already got contracts, people are already planning to buy them. Oh shit i would absolutely buy one and make a house out of it
I need to know what these are called and who is making them.
@@PvtMartin78Its just called thr NGAA Catalina II
really?!
Some Florida-based company that wants to start shipping by 2029, after a quick google search. I forget the finer details, but it gives me hope. Seaplanes are my favorite part of aviation history and I hope they do make a comeback if the modernized Catalinas do well.
You keep making these so engaging yet so easy to play in the background. This is true skill.
That’s so real
messier managed to become my lunch, homework and goodnight video company along with sam sulek
I have a feeling that Messier is gonna be KSP's Matt Lowne and Scott Manley of Flyout
You are making my desire to make flying boats in Flyout 100x more feel justified Messier... So just thanks for that!
How about a flying submarine?
Jet powered seaplanes?
Could this aircraft also work as a strategic bomber?
What about a non flying boat? Just asking wether or not that’s possible despite not being the direct intended vehicle. Like when people made/make boats in Kerbal Space Program.
@@adastra7939 Martin did this! I definitely want to
I love the turret blisters converted to observation windows. Basically she is a big PBY Catalina
Seen this on the DC very excited to watch this masterpiece be built.
I’m so happy that the game is finally coming out
Yesss i heard that and was so excited because i thought it was still months out because i never looked into it or heard it anywhere
Sick, I was hoping that you'd be able to make flying boats in this game. I loved making seaplane fighter jets in Simpleplanes. Also it has to be said that your ability to make interiors on these bigger aircraft is insane. Great job.
I will have to play this game just to recreate the interiors and exteriors of IRL aircraft
Did you post them on the website? I’m interested as to how they work.
The great thing about flyout is that it doesn't model stress concentrations and material fatigue, meaning your windows can effectively be as large and pointy as you'd want, especially with that large panoramic viewing window in the rear.
RIP Flying Boats, I love seeing old black & white documentaries about then when I was young...
This is my comfort RUclips now :)

God i love flying boats and floatplanes. This comes from a big, big love of porco rosso, but they're probably my favorite kind plane.
ah, a b-36 style bugeye cockpit
I want to put these on to go to sleep but I find myself just watching the whole thing.
This man is single-handedly ruining my sleep schedule.

The advert for the Albatross
Love it! Especially the first class "blister" lounge!
Your best project so far. It deserves some military versions, as transport (civilian too), AWACS, anti-ship, anti-sub, gunship, bomber and maybe an air refueler. Cheers!
Rex’s Hanger? This is the greatest crossover of 2023.
Absolutely beautiful design!
What a beautiful airframe! Amazing work
I think it would be cool to see you make a medium-sized private jet (Challenger 650 sized) and giving it a super detailed interior
Gorgeous plane, nice work bro! I also love the alt-history of flying boats being the mainstay of civil aviation; though in retrospect maybe it’s best we developed all those runways on land, I can’t swim lol
AMAZINGNES!!! Cool to finnaly see the whole map!
I'm looking forward to Friday release of Flyout.
With a range of over 10K miles, "Albatross" is a very apt name! I see the dihedral right at the fuselage, but I was wondering: are the wings slightly anhedral after that point?
40k already, congrats man well deserved!
You should make a ground effect aircraft (commercial or cargo or a moving SAM platform)
That is truly beautiful. i would fly in that
This channel is so amazing!
Constant creative designs :)
I can't wait for the game release tomorrow! (at the time of writing)

Would be awesome for a full on vip version of this, like almost a flying house, with a bed room, living room etc.

Holy crap this is a sick design! Can you do a like 300 passenger supersonic or possibly hypersonic aircraft
you should of made one of the side pods an f16 style bubble canopy like those old 1950s Landseaire PBY Catalinas, i think it would really completed the luxury look, Calum has an excellent video about them if you want to know more
yo I've always wanted flying boats to make a come back but I guess I'll have to settle for Flyout
Amazing work, hope to see more civilian aircrafts.
Definitely looks more like a flying boat that Convair would build.
lets say hypothetically theres some sort of emergency aboard the aircraft while passengers are sleeping with very well made earplugs/muffs. in this hypothetical situation, would you have a VERY loud alarm aboard the aircraft to give the passengers time to brace/otherwise prepare, or would you forgoe an alarm system entirely to reduce panic. perhaps just a quieter alarm system specifically for the crew?

Good job on interior.. u are setting good standards for us before the game releases
Awesome description of the future of Float Planes!
I love these videos so much
It’s like an AN-225 and a PBY Catalina had a drunken night together, and this was the result.
Hey man, hope you get better! Really like the boat/plane too

A video idea for the future could be to build an aircraft to win a Schneider cup like event in the flyout universe
Looks like a mixture of Tupolev 95 and Consolidated PBY Catalina 😉

Backstory and design so good that I had to search up if your aircraft were real.
@messier82ac you know what would be cool? a giant military ekranoplan you know like that russian KM or lun but made even bigger
Day 7 of asking Messier to make an Ekranoplan or a cargo GEV
(We’re getting so close)

I love your vids m82!! Could you possibly do a tutorial for us less knowledgeable on propellor engines please?
I love this guy idky i just love him. The videos are 10/10 keep it up i wanna see your imagination create some truly cool planes

Can't wait for flyout to come out in 2 days, this game looks so fucking nicee
your building skills have improved drastically since the last stealth plane you made, pls re-attempt
Hey I always love this stuff man keep it up!
The passengers: "Nothing could possibly go wrong with this!"
Ryanair management:
The Karen and her 5-year-old demon: "Are you sure about that?"

I think a cool idea would be a something like a B777 but with 4 engines
Basically highly fuel efficient and fast but with 4 engines

ITS OUT YAAAAAAAY

Requests 1. Make a hypersonic concorde like airliner
2. Make a flying boat thats also a fighter jet
Nicely done. Are you planning to create your version of the Spruce Goose?
I'm sad because I'm not gonna be able to play flyout when it comes out:(, I have so many ideas.
Why beds? Just have layback seats
so basically the Latécoère, but bigger and more modern
Locks like a an 225 mixed with a sea plane
That gives me an idea, what if you were to create a jet powered seaplane of that size?
@@adastra7939 good question would be a interesting idea
