If the pattern says to sew the sides of the dress then this will totally close the sides leaving no gaps or stitches un- stitched. If you use this continuous stitch method it doesn't go into every stitch along the side so the seam is not as strong or closed up...also its not as tight of a stitch as sewing the sides stitch it may elongate the sides of the dress a bit throwing off the size.....hope that helps answer your question .....cathy@ the crochet crowd :)

the joining as you go method can be used to have a more decorative blanket. for example if you use two colors you can make half of the squares in one color then use the join as you go method to finish it of as you make all the squares of the second color. in this way it becomes less of am eye sore to perfectionists :) and the "bleeding" of the colors looks more purposeful. i hope this was helpful.

Hi Mikey! I LOVE your tutorials! I'm thinking about how to attach two sides of a crochet dress. The pattern says to sew them, but I'm wondering if the "join as you go" method would work just as well. Or is there a reason not to? Would the seam "tickle" too much or is it subtle enough. I know you're all really busy, but I'd love to benefit from your experience and save myself a bit of trial and error, if you can find the time to answer. Thanks so much! Your videos are inspiring!!!

I do a back loop only crochet to unite the squares, the single crochet in the back loop only allows you to seem all different colors together without color bombing the next square, so you only see the color of the squares and not any of the seeming colors.

@lmrivera61 @lmrivera61 That is a Cardinal singing in the background. They have a powerful call. It's the singing of the male of the species. He must be close by to the house.
This is what they look like if you're not familiar with them.

I see how this works for granny squares..but what if you're making an infinity scarf, or joining just two straight lines of single/double/triple crochet? Where do you choose to go back into the other square?

Is there a left handed version of this method?

@SpiritBear12 Sorry, the site would not let me post the link to a picture of a cardinal. :-(

Mikey, I think this one takes more effort, and isn't as pretty as the single crochet, uniting the squares
