The most bittersweet part of that last line is Mark acknowledging that he's gained so much. An empire, his family, the entire universe being improved thanks to his work. But now, after 500 years, he doesn't have the one thing he told Nolan he would have after 500 years: his father.
Just as it was on this RUclips channel, I'll remember summer 2018 as my summer of Invincible. Man, what a ride. It was my first time reading and was probably the longest continuing run on a comic I've ever read next to Akira. Read 5-10 issues a day and would've read more if I could. Some of my favorite characters in comics, that's what really pulled me through this book and where I think it succeeds best. Characters you care about and REAL consequences. The only thing that felt jarring about the ending with all the time jumping was when it shows Eve on her "deathbed" looking like she was 5000 years old really confused me as to how much in time they had jumped ahead, especially with the Viltrumites not aging as quickly. I was just like, "Where are we in time here?" Felt like Kirkman had to tie up a lot of ends in that final issue, but maaaaan what a trip. I already want to revisit the series.
Johnny Athey the summer of Invincible will live with all of us, friends! I personally loved the ending how they gave us so much over such a small number of pages. Really made you feel like you experienced Mark and his family’s whole lives. I’d love for a follow up around Marcus or Terra, but for now, I’m happy just enjoying it’s amazing conclusion.
@Imperius Rex after reading Miracle man, I have got to say it sounds a lot like Rex wanted to be almost exactly what Miracle man ended up being at the end of Invincible, which makes it even more terrifying to imagine what kind of "brave new world" Rex had planned for the human race.
I read the whole comic the year you uploaded this. And I’m so glad I get to experience it as a show. One of the reasons I’m happy I exist as a comic reader.
I’m ready for this!!! Just finished Invincible just 10-15 minutes ago, definitely one of the greatest series I’ve read and binge read ever. Really enjoy how your series on this. Goes nicely with the compendiums, as I watched an episode every time I finished one. Definitely worth the 3 weeks of me reading this great series. My first series outside the big two, and I’m excited to read more non marvel/dc books. Love these videos and series.
Great video . Sad its over but I look forward to your up coming video. My wife is way happier now since the mustache is gone! The summer of Invincible will not be forgotten
Kevin Hylton it will live on forever, inside each of us. A figurative mustache grown onto our very souls. Thanks for lending your mustachioed visage to our show!
Oh hell yes. Good ol' Invincible. Why I remember when they gave us the first episode of this trilogy. I was a young man back then. Now...well I still am. But now a shady intelligence agency has co opted my laptop.
Great job on part three guys. Bring the whole series to a complete finish! I started reading Invincible month to month around issue 100. Without a doubt my favorite comic book ever. I love how the book ended, how it left open the story just in cause some else was going to write more invincible stories. I love that it is a complete story. One author, mostly one artist. Not alot of other books can claim that! OMG THE ART OF RYAN OTTLEY! I wish i could afford his original art. My god can that man draw something amazing!! Blah blah blah the books is so fucking good! I try to get anyone who reads comics to chk it out. Can't wait for the animated show/ movie that are in the works. The death of Angstrom was my favorite issue of the who story! Holy Fuck sums it all up! Love the Invincible podcast! Beens listening to them since 3rd episode. I'm glad they shouted out ur RUclips channel so I could find this awesome take on Invincible. I could keep rambling on but I won't. I'll end it with dope viltrumite mustaches guys!!!
Kotton bd thanks for the kind words! And for checking out the show! Awesome to hear that you found us from those gents over on the Invincible Podcast; class acts those guys.
I was saddened when Oliver died. I believe the reason why he didn't survive the Viltrumite "spearing" was because Oliver was half Mantis Race. Throughout the series we have only seen full Viltrumites and Viltrumite/Human hybrids heal from near fatal injuries. (Although, I believe Viltrumite/Human hybrids heal or even possibly regenerate better than purebloods.) Here's my proof... Way back in issues 71 to 78 or trade #14, a young Oliver fought Thragg and got his bottom jaw ripped off. Later, he gets a new prosthetic jaw replacement and doesn't actually heal on his own, he needs the ole healing bath/tank thing. Now, in that very same storyline, Mark got his guts ripped out by Conquest. Later, Nolan finds him dying, and...just scoops up the guts, shoves them back in and wraps Mark in a bandage. Without any medical technology Mark is later seen completely healed with no scars.
Just finished this compendium. Wow, the five year jump was shocking. I was thinking that creature that sent Mark into the past would ultimately show up at the end but no. Either way it was great a read and another great video from you guys.
@@brandonsjsj weird, right? I remember thinking that his choice to not go back would end up leading to this devastating end. But no. It never comes up again.
@@johnnieriot13 in fact he probably made the best possible ending he could- I’m honestly surprised they didn’t just pop in to say “we didn’t expect you to be able to kill thragg” or whatever
@@brandonsjsj I kinda wish Invincible never ended. I like the idea of it being like a Spider-Man man or Batman. Living on for every generation to have their own but I agree if it had to end he found the best possible ending

I finished reading Invincible 3 days ago and I can say it is my favorite superhero series ever! All carachters are great! I also love red heads, so let's just say I am a big Atom Eve fan! I started reading it when the first tpb came out but I slowed down since having kids in 2010. Now I have the same feeling after I've read the best comics. I am happy and grateful, but also sad because all other superhero books now suffer by comparision with Invincible. Of course I would have loved to read more detailed stories instead of an overview of Mark's life, but I think the last issue acheives a sense of a life legacy and hopeful look at the future. I discovered your channel because I wanted more Invincible content and I am now a new subscriber. Your videos are great, thanks guys!
RIP the Viltrumite staches :’( This was such a fun video series, thanks guys! Seeing how much you like them, I’ll have to go check out those spin offs and that Invinicible podcast. I don’t know how important it was to your reading experiences, but do you guys have a favorite colorist on the series? I loved John Rauch’s contributions; he made it look like light was projecting off the page. Speaking about the art, while reading through the letters page of Invincible’s individual issues, I was sad to see some people not digging Cory Walker’s art on his last little arc on the series. While people were calling for the return of Ottley, I was hoping for more from Walker, whose art I was so happy to see on the final issue. He killed those panels with Terra fighting in the gladiator match thing. One of my biggest disappointments with the series (there are very few) was seeing Oliver kick the bucket when I hated him for his betrayal. I loved his character until then, but thankfully Ursaal came to heal my heart as an awesome purple Viltrumite to replace Oliver. Anyways, can’t wait for that interview with the podcast crew. Keep up the great work!
LostintheSound'16SP yeah- I def noticed some of the colors where “shinier(?)” than others. Especially around women’s cleavage. (!). I loved that Walker got to finish off the series. I prefer Ottley, but it seemed only appropriate that Walker started and ended the run. And he knocked it out for the park.
Imperius Rex huh, that’s some enlightening information. I’m gonna have to go back and check out Rauch’s coloring on women, didn’t notice that before, or must’ve forgotten, haha
Clearly the spear technique is the signature move of the viltrumite empire. It is an honor to be speared by a true viltrumite. It means they respect you. Ask Thaddeus what they do to people they don't respect.
Had to thank you guys for this Retrospective series. This comic always looked cool to me but I never got around to picking it up until watching you two cover the series. I just finished the final trade today and I hope the Amazon series coming out is at least half as good. I'm sure there will be some changes (and that's cool too) but I hope they at least keep the heart of the stories even if it isn't a perfect transition from the page to the screen.
Awesome to hear! Always great to find out that we helped someone discover a great comic. Fingers crossed for the series, but I feel like it's in relatively good hands. And the fact that it's animated opens it up to a much faster-pacing, and world smashing adventures!
Best. Superhero comic. Ever. Js. Aaaand we can hope he DOES a next series starring his son. Good lord.. Great episode guys & lol at Troy to the Max shirt!
Oh 100% agreed & nice now I've got a Gladiator name. Troy to the Maximus! AND... Dave! Lmao everyone needs a homey named Dave. Lol have a great night :D
For sure. If Hickman, Ottley and Walker wanted to come back in a few years and just do a fun one-off featuring some of the seeds they planted for the future storylines, that would be amazing.
Some of my favorite parts about this series are the moments when Mark criticizes comic books. My favorite one was when he talked about how annoying it was for companies to create new number 1's.
The one that always comes to mind is when Mark and the comic shop owner complain about how lazy it is for artists to re-use panels, only for Ottley to cut and paste the same image repeatedly during their conversation.
I just finished reading it before watching these videos. It was so good. I only wish that some subplots were resolved in a satisfying way instead of dropped. Or if we get to find out the future of some side characters like Monster Girl.
I'm gonna go out on a limb here but killing a clone has got to be fairly traumatic for the cloned person. You'd be watching "you" get killed. Another you but not a different you.
just recently read the whole series and GOD DAMN is this good, it has the tropes but it isnt ham fisted , it feels like they trust the reader to fill in some gaps.
