This is my favorite Broadway show. I wish I could have seen it with this cast, but I did get to see it with The Pointer Sisters and they were fabulous.
I’ve just found this. Oh my. This is fabulous. I’ve seen this show all across the country and even in Vancouver BC. One of my all time favorite shows. Great performances by all. I saw Nell Carter and Ken Page perform Honeysuckle Rose on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. It was in 1978 just before the show opened on Broadway. It was quite a performance.
I saw it in Paris in 1981 with 3/5 of the original cast--there it was called Harlem Swing, for some reason--and this revival. My favorite number was "Handful of Keys," but when Nell Carter took the stage, you knew who was the boss!
Yes, after I typed my comment, I realized that "Harlem" would convey the type of music to the French. The lady I lived with and her grown son also saw it and loved it, even though they didn't speak English.
Nell was a close friend of mine for years. There was only one Nell.
You can say that again !!!👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
The whole cast was so talented but have you noticed that they look even better here 10 years later .
I wish I could've seen this show and w/all the original cast! I'm at least grateful to see it on youtube! They are all amazing from start to finish!
I got to see this show onstage in DC. I’ll never forget it.

Agreed. This is a lost gift. Any chance you have full segments of each number?

Very interesting. I can see how the words "harlem" and "swing" might have meant more to Parisians than the original title.

Interesting fact... Nice to know.
TRUE
What a gem!
Nell was soooooo good!
She made it seem so effortless!
1:11 "How Ya Baby" is so mesmerizing that I've got to show to my 10-12 year old musical theatre students.
Just as good or better than 1978
Fabulous As Always 😉
NELL WAS BEAUTIFUL AS ALWAYS
