@@wonkavite Ironically, Telma Hopkins actually performed with the Supremes as a last minute replacement for Diana Ross for a few concerts in the mid-'60s. She was actually Berry Gordy's initial choice to replace Diana when she solo.
Who else remembers watching this episode?! Nel Carter was a household name in the 80’s.. we would sit and watch this hoping Nel would have a singing episode. They all sounded so great. I don’t care what anyone says about the 80’s and how much they make fun of it but hands down had the best tv programs that were pure family fun. Even the commercials were entertaining. This was great. Thanks for this
@@springdaye4451 Been a year I know, but if you havent look up Lynnes Broadway singing here on YT. She won a Tony award for for her acting and a lotve great roles for her singing.
Interesting enough Lynn Thigpenn and Nell Carter passed away the same year a couple of months a part from each other 2003. Two good people with awesome talent

If you can watch this without a smile on your face then you must be having a real bad day! I tend to forget that Lynne Thigpen was a talented singer as well (I love watching her in "Godspell"). And I could listen to Nell Carter and Telma Hopkins all day long.
I grew up watching Gimme A Break and this scene is responsible for me discovering this kind of music. Fantastic. Watching this now it makes me wonder if the makers of Sister Act were inspired by this for the Whoopi girl group opening scene?
I love this scene cuz nell was giving us a dinner and a show. This was so funny and entertaining. We all know Nell wasn't gonna be the backup singers. Okay?? Lol
Yes it was especially for a little kid television culture and movies it was a special and amazing time and it would be nice to be able to go back for a respite from this crazy world of today
I miss Nell. I often wonder how Dreamgirls would have played out if Nell Stayed on as Effie. Especially if Lynne camevl in as Deena. I also love Thelma. I miss the days watvhing Gimme a Break with my momma
