      @@kirabarsmith9353 Definitely agree here, many addicts deal with shame with having to keep their life secret, and it leads to a lot of problems. Coming out and admitting this type of thing is not easy to do and may have inspired others to step out and seek help.

    i didn't know she had a drug problem. i was just a child (born 1980) when she was famous. i remember watching her show. i always found her to be beautiful.

    Life is difficult. Period. People cope in different ways. It doesn't matter. Her spirit in this world was a blessing. And her soul is mourned...at least by this boy. You often never know what someone's going through...

    Her daughter looks so much like her its amazing! I hope Nell is in a much better place & her soul is at peace. Used to watch re-runs of *Gimme A Break* every day when I'd get home from school to an empty apartment when I was 7 yrs old. Nell was my *mom* throughout my early childhood years when my mother had to work & couldnt be there. Rest in Eternal Love _Mama_ Nell 🙏❤

      Nell carter reminded me of my own mother. I lost my mom when I was 14 and watching Nell helped ease some pain.

      yeah, it's sad she died at the young age of 54, she was on the way to making a comeback at the time too. I feel like she didn't really have a very happy life overall though. :(

    I loved Nell Carter. Gimme A Break was a telivison show that I couldn't miss an episode of. For some reason she came across my mind and I had to goggle her

    Given that she was stating that she doesn't NEED cocaine, her following statement was probably that she (or any other former addict) never stops WANTING it. It's like that with alcoholics as well, which is why all addicts have to take it one day at a time.

    She is true she is honest she is a star what a beautiful soul with all of that strength she had even after all of the forces this world places on our shoulders. She is a true inspiration and a class act talent. They do not make empathic talented lovely souls like her, now we’re left with communal and overt narcissists that believe the world owes them when they don’t have half the heart she had not to mention a fourth of the talent she possessed

    My Dad used to love 'Gimme a Break'. I did too but I really liked her role in the movie 'Modern Problems' with Chevy Chase. I think that movie was the reason I couldn't wait for the sitcom to come out. I was weird, for some reason I felt like listening to the theme song from that show and it led me here. I don't remember Nell Carter going to rehab. Glad she decided to get clean. Requiescat in pace, Nell and thank you for the memories from my childhood.

      In her documentary, she stated that her 2 weaknesses were cocaine and shoes, that's what she blew her money on every payday.
