They start off with the first of two pilots of The Muppet Show, The Muppets Valentine Show that premiered on January 30, 1974. Wally is trying to come up with material about love, but is struck with writer's block. Thanks to special guest Mia Farrow, he is struck with inspiration...with mixed results.
Being the first Muppets special ever created, how well does it hold up 50 years later? Listen and find out.

It’s definitely a great starting point for the muppets. It’s always fun looking back on the early days.

Oh this is going to be a great series. Thanks for raising the idea, Kevin. And nice to know you're a fellow admirer of Sam and Friends. Just a shame so many of those shows are lost media now.
I remember seeing the Muppet Valentine's special when it was aired on Nickelodeon when they had the rights to air Muppet media. While it wasn't as entertaining as the Muppet Show and other later works, it still had a nice charm to it. Mia Farrow also had great chemistry with all the puppets, and they were able to look at all the different ways love can be expressed in both humorous and heartfelt ways. Though it's just strange to watch one of these where Kermit isn't running the show. Wally just did not work as a host; he was too generic. Also, the sketch on Koozbane was kind of nightmarish.
I echo your thoughts, Patty, that it would have been interesting to see them do more specials based around a central theme. A shame that never happened.

Love the muppets so much. My favorite muppets movies are muppets from space, muppets take manhattan, and muppets 2011 movie.
