Leveling Up a City & Completing Supply Chains in Manor Lords! | Ep. 3
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 22 апр 2024
- Our burgeoning community of Waldbrand now has all of the tools to thrive; however, most everything in the community is imported and susceptible to shortages whenever trade becomes backed up. And that makes it really difficult to complete our ultimate goal - taking over all of the lands of the realm and uniting them under our rule.
To resolve this, we're going to build out supply chains and we'll need to grow our city to have families to work in all of our new industries. We'll do this by leveling many of our buildings to level three, while also growing outward a bit. We'll also battle, but in a much more strategic way then we have previously. By the end, we'll have a leveled up city, complete supply chains, and be ready to grow outward into other regions. Enjoy!

We're going straight Manor Lords until we beat Hildebolt! Two more episodes in the series coming in the next few days!
🪑
Do you have any advice for starting a city in cities skylines 2
Yesss!
Sounds great, really enjoying this. Thank you
@@Colxy- there are great playlists on his channel you can play along with, he has plenty of advice on starting a new city
"The density increases, we get more families, and we can send them to the mines."
You sound like a Charles Dickens villain lol.
As someone who grew up in a village founded in 1100's all houses on the kings road face it. Even houses built behind others had access to the kings road. So a long drive allowing you to have a second house behind the first. Along the mile and half that cuts though the village with a village that now has 2000 houses. Every single one along the king's road face to it.
If you look at the historical growth of all the villages in most counties in the UK, France, Germany, they mostly expand out from that main road.
Yes - we build houses away from arterials now because motor traffic makes them unpleasant, but the practicality of daily life would mean houses should face the King's Road and all the gross stuff done out the back (think outdoor toilets, manure, fermenting urine for laundry) would face away from it.
@@SephStuff plus walking centric cities even now we still see facing large roads, not motorways of course.. but with the advent of the car as you said the dynamic behind roadway layouts changed and nowhere more so than in countries that are car centric
@@danielwarren7110 Yes, even things like facing the warehouse buildings off the road - when the "traffic" is all on foot there is no issue with doors being right onto the King's Road, in fact it would make the King's Road better!
Yeah, the idea of keeping entrances away from the main road is really a modern traffic management thing.
It's definitely a very American city planner type of mindset.
Apparently oxen are best placed near logger camp as they are used the most with relation with logs: pulling in recently cut trees and transporting logs to work sites. Placing them around town will add an extra trip because they must travel to the log camp, pick up logs and then travel to build site (or travel to log camp to help bring in felled trees).
Also you can help with food by making some houses produce chicken eggs and carrots. The plot size matters for carrot output
Great point! I'll place them there from now on!
@@CityPlannerPlays love the series! its how I was introduced to your channel and binged your timberborn too!
Yes, you can set up huge burgage plots with just the house and extension for an extra family to help on the outskirts of the city so you get the most bang for your buck
What if logs are stored in a storehouse though? Stone, tiles, etc... I think it would make even more sense to place oxen near your storehouse.
Amazing episode. I did want to shout from the rooftops that you deleted your farms when you almost ran out of food lol, but you fixed it by solving your trading post bottleneck.
Especially since you can pasture sheep on fallow fields if you upgrade and fence them.
More Manor Lords! Can't wait to play this on gamepass later this week!
How was this comment posted an hour ago if the video came out 15 minutes ago?
@@lawrencecarpenter2501 they're a member so they get access to the video early
You could go on over to Twitch and watch him play for like 6 hours but beware we just screw around over there so it not really the same type of thing you see here on YouTubs.
Wait ML is on game pass!?
@@chuckymoss4400 yeah.
Gambesons look likes clothes. But is actually a type of Medium or light armor that you used to put under any mail or chestplate to dampen any blows. It could also be used without armors, since it was thick enough to fend of sword slashing.
That you can build both is very cool.
As a City Skylines Player and Total War player I am looking forward to this game! That said, Phil your battles stress me out so much. But the city building is as enjoyable as ever!
Downright painful watching Phil try to fight a battle 😂. Town looks great though haha
Just be aware that Manor Lords is not a TW killer. It has military units and battles, but even the largest battles will not be on the scale of very small battles in Total War.
@@spamfilter32 oh I’m aware, I’m not expecting total war
Units facing the wrong way and archers running past enemy units... I don't get it 😂
@@Burdenist that while on max speed lol. So stressful
One detail I really love is how the roads stay small with little traffic, but the more traffic, the wider it wears. Cool little detail ❤
Remember, when you upgrade to level 3, it doubles the residences in that plot, so if it’s a double it becomes 4 families in one plot. And if that plot is specialized plot like tailor then 4 families are now tailors. So at 9:30 when you made 3 plots tailors, later when you upgrade that will mean you’ll have 6 families as tailors.
I had an idea Phil!
What if you created a Waldbrand in Cities: Skylines 2 to be the present days expansion?
Interesting for a live :D
Phil could maintain the kings road and church position, make the city European themed. But since phil is more familiar with US city layout, maybe the lore could be the region was redeveloped after “the war”. So the city can be more vague in its layout
That sounds awesome
That would be so cool to see
YES! Boost this comment so that he sees it!
Such a cool idea!
The little details are just sublime in this game. The developer cant be applauded enough imo. The tailors auto assigning the seperate focus' is such a small touch that speaks volumn to the attention and intentions behind the games development.
Manor Lords was my introduction to your channel, and I love your videos.
Welcome and thanks for being here!
Same
Seeing your decision about the road @22:50, makes me think that you never had to walk home after a hard day in the mine.
I grew up close to a large iron works (smelter), and saw workers make their way home with heavy steps. Some tipped their cap when passing the church.
This was of course back in the 60's, so I guess not many today remembers much of it.
This is really bothering me now. The massive detour to get home just aint right.
His placement of production makes no sense. He planted a forest on top of his kiln. Just to make sure that if there's a fire the whole forest _and_ the town burn down.
He's importing all his basic food and has less then a years worth of stores. He didn't upgrade a burgage to a bakery but destroyed the communal ovens (WTF!)
Just remember he's an American city planner and the concept of walking anywhere, let alone building a city with walking in mind, is totally foreign.
@@jamalgibson8139 This explains everything, I couldn't put my finger on why the planning was going the way it was so thank you!👍👍
How many of us are screaming for him to put people on the stables? Man has a whole fleet of transports and no one working them 😂
8:35 in most RTS games trees and woods can be used to your advantage to hide your troops from the enemy. Allowing you to set up ambushes, or leave a group of archers in the woods to fight from.
I still have to finish the last episode after I almost had a stroke at Phil thinking he won the battle against the raiders but overall, I love this series
I was wondering if eps 2 and 3 were recorded in one session lmao didn't seem like he saw any of the comments from the last episode about combat...
Good question! Recorded in half. So the first battle in here is previous to comments/stream, the second is after.
I also saw how his troops were being demolished and how he was meanwhile thinking he won the battle. That was indeed a situation which was a low point of the town and his oversight...😂
As a Total War player, I've been tearing my hair out for two episodes. So good to finally see tactical gameplay.
You don't need to be surprised by the mercenaries arrivals... If you look by the cost it tells you which region they will arrive in.
You could also order your own troops to walk during travel so they arrive fresh to the fight instead of having to wait nearby to recover.
I love that of the several Manor Lord games I've seen, Phil's is the most militant.
its 2am here in the UK and I'm so glad I clicked youtube before bed to catch this! Love all your videos bro!
Thank you so much Combo!
Don't forget to sleep!🫣😉
Glad to see the strategy from stream seemed to improve the combat! I'm guessing once you start declaring wars, the opposing armies are going to be hardier.
A couple of things I noticed:
4:30 -- It looks like the weapons and armor are not consumed when creating units, so if you only have 25 spears in storage, you will only be able to have a maximum of 25 spearmen. This might mean, as your armies get larger, you'll need more general storage just for weapons. Also, keep this in mind when you switch to "Full Trade" and start exporting military stuff. Don't want to accidentally sell all of your spears or something!
13:25 -- Did you rebuild the farms somewhere else off-screen? I'm guessing the reason you ended up with food issues was because those farms were a majority producer, in spite of the low fertility. Makes me think the yield might not be so sensitive to the soil fertility, which might mean flax/etc. could still be viable in your current map tile.
29:50 -- Importing lambs is interesting... If you were to set "import lambs" to, say, "keep 100", then set "export sheep" to "keep 0", would this be a money printer? Namely, if it costs nothing but time and a few families to tend to the sheep, after the first 100 lambs grew up, I think you'd have a constant flow of gold as you exported the adult sheep for 20gp apiece, only to replace them with new lambs for 10gp apiece.
30:30 -- I was wondering about this during the stream: so it _does_ look like there is some mechanical impact of having multiple trading posts. Good to know! Also, I think all of those trades that occurred with no employees makes me wonder if the trades happen automatically and the employees only go and fetch the trade products. I wonder if you were to stock a trading post, then remove all of the assigned families, whether the stock would still get traded.
46:46 -- It looks like the foreign carts are separate buildings (next to the market tool, which you can see just after 46:48, before getting covered by the Marketplace tool-tip). If I understand the usage, as long as you have local wealth, then families will exchange local wealth for food/fuel when supplies are low. [Mechanically, I really like this, since it sort of lets you use your local wealth as a safety-net for necessities. I imagine this will help soften logistics issues in the end-game when you should have tons of local wealth, but might run into logistics bottlenecks once local trade networks get complex.]
Thanks, Phil, for the fantastic videos! I'll try my best to make it to the stream Thursday. Looking forward to seeing the Great Ale War!
1 - Good point! I want to trade some of the weapons, but I think I need to be careful about that.
2 - I didn't. In the next one, we're building a farming village that will provide food for the whole region (if it's even needed....)
3 - I'm going to take your advice and switch it in the next one. The recording was finished, but the audio is bad in the second half so I have to redo it. Look out and see what happens!
4 - It seems as though there is, but it's difficult to quantify right now. I think you're right about how it works - there are some "variety" traders that will come even when a route isn't purchased, and I think they will spawn extras with additional posts (as best as I can tell anyway). I think you're half right about the workers - they also open up stands selling traded goods at the market, so without them I think those end up empty, too... so twice the bad news.
5 - Oh man, you're right! I'll have to give that one a go in the next video, too! Great catch!
And the stream is going to be epic! I think I may have made a pretty tragic mistake though... but more on that Thursday!
1. I think weapons are consumed only when the unit who uses it died. Otherwise, they are stored in the burgage plots I think. When you rally them, they run home and grab weapons :D
The dev actually nerfed the price of sheep due to them being a game breaking money print. Cool that you caught this just by watching a vid
Thank you for continuing this series, it's getting me through finals!
Happy to help! Good luck and knock them outta the park!
Please keep playing Manor Lords! Your commentary is always insightful and makes watching these series so enjoyable!
So I’ve been watching this game for a while and for the past few days I’ve been been trying to see as many let’s place as possible, having said that this is probably one of the four best let’s play/tutorial that I’ve seen so far, especially with the amount of communication explaining what’s going on and great detail and excellent city building as far as practicality and economical function. I have enjoyed your videos immensely.
Loving Manor Lords! Amazing how well you adapted to a whole new game. And it's amazing to see how your background lead to a unique and believable town!
"I don't want all the miners going past the church anyway" 22:45
Understandable 🤣
This is such an excellent series! The game looks like a lot of fun, but I find from watching various different people making videos on Manor Lords, yours are by far the most useful in terms of passing on knowledge about the game. Love your style!
Hello. This is me engaging.
Also, I'm very much enjoying this series! You and One Proud Bavarian make the waiting time just about bareable
Hey, Phil. I really strongly suggests that if you want to fix this whole food storage problem to just build a butt. Tone of fields around your settlement cause. That's how medieval villages were. You had 3 times as much land taking up in farmland that that you did the actual city. It will really help your food situation. And it will look more historically accurate, just saying, kill 2 birds, one steam ugly, she're interfrip. Instead of planting war trees, it's time to plant the field and another field and fact free war. You need the farm land.
Absolutely the plan for the next one! The problem is poor fertility here, but all the surounding regions are pretty outstanding!
Watched you for city skylines, subscribed for more Manor Lords!
Burgage plots with long narrow to medium width back yards yield more vegetables to the community food supply. Smaller shallow back yard plots are fine for chickens
This game looks so good can't wait for the release this week. It is exactly what I have been waiting for in a city builder. Great video
Also, History/Language Trivia Time! "Sidearms" are basically any melee weapon that isn't a spear or polearm (obviously). That includes swords, maces/clubs and hammers/picks.
These weapons were often used with a shield, but they were also carried as a backup weapon for a polearm or such, hence "sidearm".
In german, these sidearms were collectively referred to as "gewehr", which is related to a word meaning "to defend". The modern meaning of the word "gewehr" is "rifle", because (as far as I understand) it came to refer to a soldier's primary weapon.
I'm simplifying a bit, since I'm writing from memory and also this is a comment, not a Wikipedia article, but anyone with more knowledge on the subject should feel free to fill in.
In swedish, "sidearm" was called "värja", which has the same basis as the german "gewehr", meaning "to defend/ward off". When firearms began to appear on battlefields, these to were included in the collective use of "värja".
The modern meaning of "värja" is "rapier", i.e. a fairly specific type of sword. I won't get into detail, but there's a lot involved in the the terminology for different swords, and in defining exactly what a rapier is and has been throughout history. That would probably be _several_ Wikipedia articles, and I'm not up for that.
That's a different development from the german "gewehr". Swedish does use "gevär" for "rifle", but as far as I know that's a loan word from german.
This has no effect on the mechanics of Manor Lord, of course. I just thought you might find it interesting to add a bit of context.
I would guess then that something like a claymore would not be considered a sidearm.
Some more etymological information, though I'm sure you all could guess, "sidearms" are named as such because those "arms" all had the capability of being carried in a belt loop where as a spear or polearm had to be held.
This is my new addiction. Watching Manor lords playthrough 😅
This game is so immersive. My favorite thing though, is the focused game play. No indecision to really speak of and a good eye for aesthetics. Great stuff.
Yeah, it has a -very- tightly bound gameplay loop.
It looks like a hell of a game.
Loving the variety of city building game play! ❤
In Total War games. Trees break line of sight, Also protects your troops from archers and is considered difficult terrain.
Will have to see if it's the same in this game. One thing I know in this game is that it may mask bandit's approach. So it goes both ways.
I'm pretty sure that it does because I've lost track of them when they go into the woods. Their icons even disappear, so those are good points!
Hey! I really have enjoyed this series and your expansion into games outside of the CS world. It's really enjoyable and fun insight you have on simulation games in general! Love the new content! Keep it up!
Your town looks great! I love the asymmetrical shapes and the forest makes a beautiful scenery!
Love the videos Phil! You alone are making me excited for the game. Love your build style, helps a lot.
May I recommend taking the time to understand the battle dynamics? You'll find winning battles to be almost guarteed when you understand unit controls, height and cover advtanages, etc etc. Your troops won't automatically engage enemies, hence why your archers just kept walking while they were under attack at the start of the video. They need to be positioned and ordered to attack.
Sorry if my comment seems patronising, trying to help!
Loving the pedestrian centric build you’ve gone for with the town centre. Hopefully sir Chucklesworth IV doesn’t get his way as the local ealdorman 🤬 the gall of that jumped up carriage merchant.
I love your videos! Thanks to you I’ve fallen in love with city games! I’m definitely subscribing
These episodes are really enjoyable to watch. By the time you realize, you've already gotten to the end of another episode. The editing is also really well done, with cuts paced just right so it doesn't feel like the video is dragging on too much.
This game is basically a realistic version of kingdoms and castles. I personally don’t like city build aspect games but I’m always down to watch one! Love the fact that it’s a medieval time city builder game!
I love Kingdoms and Castles! It has such an amazing art style, lol.
You need to better arrange your military units in battle. the spear units should be arranged in a line facing the enemy. if they get flanked theyll die quicker. positioning is a big part of winning battles with minimal casualties.
Check the second battle and let me know if that one is better
@@CityPlannerPlays Haha for sure! Its crazy how it works exactly the same as total war, like there has to be some kind of copyright infringement. lol
Not how that works
In fairness he’s not an RTS gamer as far as I’m aware haha, he’s a city planner for a reason hahaha
Also the "battle stance" buttons on the left side are no action buttons. They don't order your troops to take action now or stop moving, it's just telling them how to behave in battle.
So ordering troops to "hold ground" does not make them stop, also "fall back" does not make them retreat. If you want your troops to take action, you need to command them to make this action.
They are useful though as in a bigger battle you could tell your center troops to fall back while having your flanks to hold ground or push so you can better surround the enemy.
Really enjoying this series. Games like this are so much fun but a bit daunting. Watching you always gives me that crucial information I need to play to my full potential.
I'm so excited for this game! I've been watching a lot of videos about it, and it's a testament to how long I've been watching your channel that I keep yelling at the screen of other players to respect roadway hierarchy.
Babe, wake up! City Planner Plays posted another Manor Lords video!
I have good and bad news Phil. Good news is you're an awesome content creator... bad news you are no Sun Tzu.
Nice work man! I enjoy your play through the most out of all the ones I’ve watched.
This is becoming my favourite serious! So much fun to watch Manor Lords
It really interesting coming back to this series after watching One Proud Bavarian play. He is far more historically focused, but it is fascinating seeing a modern planners approach. That said I like how you consider aesthetics and don't just make a boring American grid, makes me wonder what the modern day city of Waldbrand would look like.
It would be so cool to see the next settlement layout be more around the manor. Have the storehouse and grainery within the walls, burgage plots around with markets. Could build a second wall around it all, I'm not sure how well the castle building works just yet.
I can't wait to play this game!!
One Proud Bavarian's latest video explained how to create a manorial walled town. The sequence of steps is crucial: you cannot add town buildings after the wall is built, but any town buildings present before the wall is *planned* become unclickable and can't be upgraded.
1) Build the manor.
2) In castle planner, plan but don't build the wall - first expand the circumference with the little planned guard towers so it's big enough to encompass the town.
3) Build the whole town!
4) Once all the town buildings are built, you can set the city wall to being built, which could take a few years.
This way you can still upgrade your city buildings, assign them upgrades etc.
Your castle planner doesn't appear to have an option for nested walls, so you won't get a separate wall around the manor itself in such a manorial walled town.
@@hanneken4026 awe yes I just checked that video out (thank you!). I didn't realize it was like that, i wonder what it will become at full release
Thanks for the great videos I especially love the manor lords videos!
The Manor Lords content has been Amazing! I've tried watching other creators, but always find that it doesn't live up to your content!
Not sure if pointed out but it looks like you don’t have a family assigned to the sheep farm
Phil: Let's eliminate our farm, focus on other production trees.
Also Phil: why are we not producing enough food??
So nice videos! I've watched all three of them in once!
Loving this series man. Got me checking every day for the new episode
I could be wrong but it didnt seem like you have a family working in the pasture :)
I wish CS 2 building construction looked good as in this game
I can't wait to play Manor Lords tomorrow!!! I will have a blast!! Played it on Steam's Demo Fest long time ago, looked good and interesting and it was on my radar for a year and a half, so finally tomorrow is going to be the day!
And there is so many great city builders coming, Frostpunk 2, Kaiserpunk... This is going to be a great year for city builders!
Loving these videos! I've been psyched about this game for a while. Cheers :)
Did you ever actually build the food and wood carts you unlocked?
No, he seem to believe they meant that foreign traders would put up stalls in his markets
Instead of Manor Lords OR CS2, what about Manor Lords AND CS2 ;)
I’m really digging this series. Can’t wait to see more!!
Love the CS2 stuff, and I'm emotionally invested in Magnolia County, but I can't imagine how invested I'd get with a CPP series with that level of lore in Manor Lords. I'd be devastated to hear about Pikeman Chuckles taking an arrow from a bandit...
Almost everyone is overlooking this mechanic: Big plots = backyard farms | Small plots = hens/goats
CPP:
# deletes all farmland, mill and bakery
# doesn't replace them
# adds more population
# peasants start starving
*surprised pikachu face* :o
Absolutely loving this series!
Always a pleasure to follow along :)
If your super shy like this emoji 🏰
Your fighting Gameplay is just bad man. You are making the same errors every time.
Absolutely loved this series and have subscribed!
Been searching ur RUclips everyday just hoping that you posted another episode. Finalllyyy!
Been waiting for that game for years since I first saw the initial teaser. So excited to play it in a couple of days, looks like it's living up to the expectations. Can't believe that it was developed by just 1 person
I really like manor lords, but I also really love MC and all our other skylines maps. You're just really good at emergent storytelling narration.
Im obsessed with this series!
Really enjoying this series! :)
I’ve really been enjoying this series! Such a good looking, cool game 😍
New subscriber here. I am really enjoying the Manor Lords videos. This look so far like everything I hoped other medieval games would have done.
I’ve been waiting for this all evening!🎉
Honestly not sure how much I like this game, but im always stoked to watch you play it haha!
Just an incredible series of videos. Watched them all. You're going super fast, but I know you're trying to get as much in as possible. Can't wait to get the game on 4-26. Battle was much better today. You should upgrade the manor/castle next video.
I am so excited for this series. Keep up the great work!
Love this series, got so excited to see a new video after just finishing the other 2 episodes
Really enjoying this new game/series. It’s a good thing too, ever since you announced your displeasure with CS2 and the reduction in posted content with that game, I’ve been having withdrawals from ya and I know you stream but I can’t find time to watch it with work and the kids.
I’m really enjoying this and thank you for your wonderful production quality, very interesting and informative content.
I appreciate that! I'll have more CS2 content soon, but I have been enjoying the variety and am glad that you're along for the ride!
Loving this series, hope it doesn't end!
Absolutely loving these videos!!!!
After this series finishes, Phil should make a present-day Waldbrand in cities skylines
discovered your channel due to the manor lords content but i think i will be sticking around. definitely love your style and approach when it comes to these type of games!
LOVE your Manor Lords content!
I've always loved your content and I can't wait for this game to come out. Keep up the good work.
Finally! Loving this series!
Love this series! So excited to watch tonight
I’m loving the series! But do also enjoy the story of magnolia! Altogether a great channel and can’t wait for more manor lords!
I honestly cannot wait for manor lords to release, as a fan of both the strategy and colony SIM genres this game blends to two so well. So very excited
These vods are awesome. Love the content.
Definitely one of my favourite series at the moment
