When I first went on line, looking for some video clip about how to play the guitar on Hotel California by the Eagles, without the use of a capo. I was quite surprised to find there was hardly any, or at least anything that was easy and simple enough for most to learn and play. While some of the videos on You Tube were great, I personally thought they were not realistic and friendly enough for most beginners, especially, the fingers stretching. Not having the biggest of hands my self, these methods just won't work for me, and not to mention, how does one playing it standing up with the guitar hanging low? After having read some of the comments posted on these videos, I looked into it and came up with my own and made my first video last year(2014). It was probably not the best video, however, I believe the idea is what truly matters. Some of you had requested for an additional of a more detailed tutorial video. After having spent quite a bit of time off and on, and due to other projects I was working with in the same time, it took the longest time for me to get this video done. And I must admit, it was pretty challenging just to put the video together. However, because of the longer time It took, new ideas and improvements came up. Compare to the first video, the new clip should be much better and more complete with fine details. To simplify the lesson, I've purposely changed and left out a few notes, which you could eventually and easily add them up, once you've memorized the melody. I hope this video gives you the help you're looking for, as it was intended to.

literally when I searched for hotel California intro tutorial in the RUclips, I only found the normal chord playing which is absolutely not helping because everywhere is same but this is the exact intro that the Eagles played . This is by far the best and most accurate representation of the original intro that I've seen on a 6 string. Thank you so much for making a tutorial video for it! Always wanted to learn how to play this song.

Good tutorial, way better then the other intro videos ive seen. I have been searching for 6months trying to find a decent explanation and for a intro that sounds right. I know this is old but just want to say thanx and solid job.

You should do some more guitar lessons. I've been playing this with a capo for a while, mainly because it was easier, but you explain this so well that I'm going capoless on this now. Yeah, it's more of a challenge, but I know it will be worth it. Thanks for this vid.
stevo53 . It's probably best to play this song with a capo. However, it wouldn't be possible to switch to all the solo parts in the same time . Which was why I came up with this idea. It's good to know both ways, with and without the capo. Thanks for your comment. Cheers

its was great... i played the song last night at band practice....i play so many covers and do alot of shows and it helps to get accurate transcriptions to songs...it helps for speed and keeping fresh music... thank you again.

Hi Dat, thanks for the tutorial. I love the no capo version as I learned to play using the bar 7 capo. Is it possible to post the chord shapes as some are tough to see over your fingers. I just want to be certain I've got it right

@@datnguyen7108 hi Dat. I managed to work them out. And I've decided to have the capo on bar 2 so I can play deeper sounding chords during verses. Means I have to adjust how I play E9 which is a bit tricky. Thanks again for liberating me from the capo and making this classic riff seem beatable! I'll be playing your version at my band's first get together since lockdown in 2020 this next Saturday. I'll be proud to do it!
