I made these rolls to go with a Christmas dinner at my mom's house right after this video came out last year. My father in law was living with us at the time and he kept commenting on how good they were. My wife ended up giving him all the leftovers; about 10 rolls total. The next morning I came down to see if he wanted to go get some breakfast with us and he was eating the last roll with apple butter. We lost him to kidney failure on February 4th this year, but he managed to remind me how much he appreciated and enjoyed these rolls while in the ICU. I don't think you can ask for higher praise. God Bless you, Kent. You have brought families together around good meals and we appreciate you.
I've been cooking for 60 years but never have I baked home made rolls or bread. Everybody was impressed with how these turned out. I have been ORDERED to make them again and try other recipes. Thanks for the lesson!
These rolls look just like grandmas. I can't wait to make these to see if they taste the same. If they do, I thank you kindly for reminding me of her kindness and passion for baking.
Mr. Rollins, I have to say the best meals I have ever made (besides my buche de Noel, French Canadian Yule log Christmas cake) was always on top of an open fire. I once made some beer can chickens in my massive Dutch over on the fire while camping, well I took off the lid and it went WOOF, made me jump back and squak and dance like a chicken until I grabbed the lid and put it back on. It felt like an hour went by but it was literally second. Needless to say, when the chicken was fully cooked and I served it to my extended in laws family of 22, they were absolutely amazed, the skin was crispy and so flavourful, the meat including breast were juicy and extremely flavourful as I had not only rubbed lemon/garlic butter under the skin but injected it with herbs and spices! God bless you and yours, to all the viewers/commentators, Merry Christmas and happy holidays
Those look so yummy. I'm always looking for a good roll recipe. I usually fail at them so I buy them. I will try this one before the holidays when my body lets me. Thank you so much. You made my day today Mr. Kent. Keep me in your prayers and I'll keep you in mind. God bless you all
Grandma and mom both taught me to spread bitter on the top of rolls when they come out of the oven. Your the first person I've seen who does it the way I do. Good job!
OMG did you take me back in time to my childhood. My grandmother used to make homemade rolls 😋 I LOVED them right from the oven with butter melting on them. Mmmmmmm 👍 😋 Semper Fi 🇺🇲
Even if I've been retired since 2018, I never seem to have time to bake. But I _gotta_ try your recipe! My mom used to buy Parker House rolls and real butter especially for Thanksgiving. I think your rolls would taste even better, even without melted butter on them.
I cannot tell you how many times we have watched this video. My 2 year old requests this video daily 😂 and my 8 year old has her favorite sayings from the video already. Love all the videos!
Thank you so much for your videos, they are the best and I hope you never stop. My dad never taught me much so I like to think of you as the internet dad that teaches me cool things❤
Took me a few tries to make types of bread, but once you get it, it's pretty simple. What made it click for me is I used a kitchen scale and measured my ingredients in grams. Made things way easier for me. I never thought of using a thermometer though. Generally use one for meats. Think I'll give it a try for my bread to see if I can improve my process.
Hello Kent & Shannon! Your such a great story teller as you cook. Brings back memories. You remind me of my mamaw, she and grandad lived the next farm over. We would have Sunday dinner all the time. Mamaw made the best biscuit and a table full of food. Yum yum that was very long ago. Keep dancing ,love your recipes. USA, Rhonda
Hi Kent and Shan what a great recipe me and my boyfriend will definitely be making these from now on we just love watching your channel keep up the great work
Kent, you are a treasure. I watch you with my kids and they love you too. At my daughter's request I made the elk chili you made using local bison in place of the elk and that was some darn good eating. Keep it up and may God richly bless you and your family.
I made these as a practice run tonight for thanksgiving tomorrow and they were the best yeast rolls I have ever made! I added some garlic powder to the flour before proofing them and I cannot wait to make another batch tomorrow. These were a 10/10
My Dear Friend.... You go through a lot to put these video's on.... cold, wind, rain, snow, dust and many other environmental challenges.... Things that people don't consider.... We Thank You and Shann. You are an American Treasure.... p.s. give the pup's an extra squeeze for me.... Tnx Doc.
Gotta love cooking outdoors when the breeze is blowing the yeast out of your measuring spoon. Those rolls looked terrific. The simple things in life are the best. Thank the Lord that chuckwagon cooks had those temperature probes back in the Old West. Even had special holsters on the belt next to the Colt.
some of you probably think it's just product placement, and it definitely is, but knowing the temp is so helpful. Yeast rises best at a specific temperature and bread is fully cooked at a specific temperature - having a thermometer probably doesn't feel super cowboy but when you can nail it because you know you did it right, you'll feel like one
I made your roll recipe tonight and baked in my 10”cast iron skillet and wow what flavor they had. I also made a braised rump roast and family ate good tonight.
That looks so good. I like the way you wake up the dog " Major " and say,It's time for work to test the rolls. I love that vest it should be on your merch site
I’ve been baking bread rolls for years now but I am going to give these quick rolls a try this thanksgiving they look so good and I love a quick yeast roll recipe. I’ve never watched your videos before I’m definitely going to check out your other ones as I enjoyed watching this one so much. You Have a wonderful day sir
I’m gonna have to make these at deer & javelina camp. Doesn’t get much better than hot, fresh bread from around a fire. Thanks for sharing and for this great channel Kent!
I love making Breads every week. I share with neighbors and they also appreciate. I also have done in the Dutch oven out over by the fire pit when camping .❤
Well Mr Rollins I just recently found you here on the you tube and have to say after watching your video's on seasoning cast iron you showed me I was doing it half right. I always cleaned it with kosher salt and never soap from witch I learned from my dad. So after the salt cleaning every time I would dry it and oil it well every time I went to use it it was sticky and the food was hard to keep from sticking. So after watching all the video's on how to clean and start from new I seasoned it 3 time like you recommend. The first thing I cooked in it was beacon and I cleaned it right off the stove with hot water and I still had to use some salt then i heated the pan and use grapeseed oil again. Today I made these rolls in it in the oven and they turned out great for the first try. and I did grease it with butter for cooking them. 20 minutes at 400 with the pan starting at room temp and they where perfect. I took the rolls out immediately and they where not stuck and the bottoms where light golden brown as where the tops. I then put it on the stove on medium heat threw a half stick of butter in and a pound of Tennessee Pride sausage and made gravy. when I added the flour to cook it down it stuck to the pan but when I added the milk it all came up and the rest of it slid around like glass. I only had to clean it with the hot water and my soft bristle brush. Reseasoned with grape seed oil and it looks great and now. I'm happy and it's easier to cook out of all ready all thanks to you. Much Love and respect to what you have done and are doing. Prayers to you the wife your family and the pups.
These rolls looked so good I could almost taste them! And the out-takes at the end when BOTH of you said they were so good made me want about a dozen of them!
Sir thank you I'm sorry my uncle and I missed you in casper . He got sick and I was out of town. Very seldom do I miss a video. Hug that young lady ,and pet them dooggs. Yes I lose the hat when you pray for our GIs. Blessings from Wyoming.
💛...🇺🇸...oh my oh my oh my...i'm usually the one that makes the homemade rolls for our family get together at thanksgiving... and kneading the dough by hand is the best therapy for my arthritic fingers... so soft and warm...
Gonna do a practice run on these tomorrow so I can make sure I’ve got them tasting right for thanksgiving. I know I’ll be talking about you two on thanksgiving for sure . Planning on adding your black eyed pea soup too. Can’t wait . Thank you so much . Love watching all your videos ,your doggies and your dancing always makes me smile .😊
Some people watch for the recipes and walkthroughs, I watch for the dance! Good man, Cowboy! Thank you for the support, sir, it was trupy an honor every day I got to wear the flag on my right arm. Infantry!
I won’t be kneading outside here in Cody, Wyoming! Wind goes from 0 to 25 mph in no time! 😂 I use a heating pad under my sourdough that is rising overnight because I keep my house about 58F at night. I use my dutch oven often for bread.
Am definitely making these for the family on Thanksgiving. Thank you again for sharing all of these great recipes and wonderful videos. Hope you and your family have a great and blessed Thanksgiving!
Thanks Kent and Shannon for sharing this with us. Them rolls looked great, love those fresh home baked rolls. Stay safe and keep up the great videos and the fun you all have around there. Fred.
Mouth watering video as always!!😋 Kent and Shannon thanks for all you do!!! Holidays around the corner and both of you are my greatest gifts!!!!🙏 God bless you and your families be safe and take care!!! !!!!🙏🙏
We were gifted a nice bread machine just before covid, that got me into bread making. Since then we haven't bought any bread from the store. Matter of fact we got so use to the freshness I would hate to go back to store bought. A good brat or cheese steak on a fresh roll is over the top.
Thank you Kent and Shannon The rolls looked awesome but boy did they need some Kerri Gold and a slathering of beef gravy. Yum!!! Take care and God bless.
You might want to discuss problems with the temperature tool you advertised. I wanted one and the company has no idea what they are doing. They just lost my business. The smell of Fresh Baked Bread is one of the Best smells on Earth. It takes me back to the mid 60s when we lived over a Bakery.

Love the winds on the plains
When my mother used to make homemade bread when i was a youngun, she'd start the yeast in the morning. If she wasn't ready or the yeast wasn't, she'd just add another dash of sugar and flour, and let it sit.
Now, sometimes we got VERY airy bread, sometimes we got fairly dense bread. But we always got bread! And it was always tasty.
Technically, bread from the store is better. But it sure doesn't taste like it. That homemade bread was very inconsistent. But it was always welcome, and the variance was just a surprise.
That and the house always smelled nice. Baking bread and brewing coffee are some of my favorite smells. And i don't even drink coffee. ^-^

I love watching you teaching everyone how to cook
I had some legs for it, off a honey extractor. This made it the perfect height. Had a tent sluice smoke stack that was just setting around like the legs. I put it on the side. I put a thermometer on the lid. The fire plate is a pizza pan I had to buy some 18" grated, to grill on, and set a drip water bowl on 👉 I LOVE IT ♥ Can even cook bread in it. as a oven. WILL BECOME THE WORK HORSE ON MY PATIO 😎for small and large cooks> Like a turkey, or hamburgers
God bless you and yours!
