      Yeah, I feel like this is the closest I will ever get to “a Magic: the Gathering” anime.
      Which seems odd since there are so many card game anime out there. But they, you know... suck.
      At least, they in no way capture what draws so much passion to the best game in human creation. (The aforementioned M:tG). While Chihayafuru totally does.

    Chihayafuru has quickly become one of my favorite shows of all time over the last year. Its an amazing, beautiful show. Its a show about personal growth and has so many wonderful characters - all with their own hopes, dreams, and desires. All the characters live their own lives - they don't exist to orbit around the MC. The adults are fully fleshed out people, and I really relate to some of them.

    The Taichi you describe at 9:00 for whom everything comes easily is actually Komano's caricature of him. Episodes 2 and 3 make it clear that Taichi works harder than most people think.

    • @kaitlingrace6176
      @kaitlingrace6176 4 года назад +1

      Actually, at the first everything was easy and didnt care much about stuff. But he started to work harder just for karuta in highschool. He realized how impt chihaya and the actual sport is to him. So he works hard and improves a lot even if he fails sometimes.

    • @proper1420a
      @proper1420a 4 года назад +3

      @@kaitlingrace6176 It appears you've forgotten a couple moments in the grade school arc. In S1E2 at 17:25, after Chihaya complains that Taichi is such a good athlete and student, and Taichi proudly claims that he was born with it, Chihaya teases him because she knows he made flash cards to learn the 100 poems, and he begs her not to tell anyone because they'll think he's lame. And in S1E3 at 15:10, Harada tells Chihaya he's impressed that Taichi could get into a highly selective middle school while also playing karuta, and we get a shot of Taichi sleeping at a desk on top of study materials. The implication is clear: Taichi liked to project the image that it all came easy to him, but he actually worked hard to take advantage of his talent.

    Wanted to mention I like the subtle zoom effect to keep the image feeling dynamic, but I really feel that the zoom in needs the camera to start a little further away from to be more subtle and not risk bordering on claustrophobic, the zoom out was pretty good at this distance though. Also feel some of the other editing, particularly at the start was happening just a bit too frequently and was making the editing itself too noticeable and somewhat pulling me out of the video. Like the effects overall, just felt there was too much too fast, again mostly in the first couple minutes, but still somewhat at other parts, though it is possible the latter examples would have been less noticeable and worked as the intended punctuation if the first couple minutes hadn't been quite so jarring and had me looking for such things.
    Still that aside thanks for the video, I will be sure to give this a watch in the near future :D

    From the moment I started it last year with the confirmation of S3 to the long awaited release of S3 it truly is a beautiful anime both in its narrative/story/plot/character development through which I literally had to binge watch in 2 days(Even skipping one day's sleep). But there's always a BUT for every masterpiece in the making.
    The pink elephant in the room that is called Season 3 which everyone was expecting - All I gotta say is, while the story and the plot are still on point something is going wrong with Madhouse's sudden drop in animation a few episodes in which becomes more and more noticeable by every episode. So while like Arcada I do recommend Chihayafuru from the bottom of my heart, I've got to let everyone interested know not to suddenly be disappointed and continue it for its beautiful story~

    Very good video! I'm so thankful for your hard work to give out really good anime recommendations. More people should know and watch the masterpiece that is Chihayafuru. The growth of the characters and how they change throughout the series, like you mentioned, is the best part of it. You always explain everything in detail, from plot to characters. Keep up with the good work! (By the way, the video quality is so good! Camera, editing, content, everything! Congrats!) (Also, Taichihaya

    Really cool video, I hope some people were convinced to try it after seeing this. Also re:the camera movement, I didn’t see a problem with it, I thought it was kind of cool, but I guess everyone has different preferences.

    Holy shit, this anime. I normally don't watch these kinds of anime, but after your passionate explanation of why you like this one I was convinced to give it a try. And I totally get what you mean with character development. 3 episodes in and I'm already completely invested. Also the touching moments. Didn't think it was possible for me to feel a little teary in the very first episode already. It's recommendations like this one that I watch your channel for. :)
    EDIT: 12 episodes in now. This anime is amazing. :) I usually play games while watching series/anime/whatever. But not this time. Got so interested around episode 5 that I stopped playing games and just watched the anime. I find it hard to stop watching, but alas...work is waiting for me tomorrow again. Time for bed. =/

    Amazing show. Totally agreed. For me it's all about the cultural element, combined with the lovable dorks. This show has managed to tug at my heartstrings more than almost any other series. All the characters are so wonderful, both protagonists and antagonists. I've found myself cheering for everyone at some point. One of the antagonists is a legit favorite char of mine! And I love that it really shows the "Karuta World" too - the microsociety that has arisen amongst all the high end players and how they know each other, and keep encountering each other again and again. Yeah, I adore this show a lot.

    This series is now my second favorite series. Overtaking Evangelion, One Piece, Monster, Monogatari. To be honest very few things separate my top 5 and I love them all. But they're just something magical about Chihayafuru. I can rewatch it multiple times and get hit in the feels every time. From animation to soundtrack to characters and most importantly beautifully poetic written script. Every time you feel this series cannot get any better, it does. It's unreal.
    I too urge everyone who has not given Chihayafuru a watch. to do so. You'll feel every emotion under the sun that makes us human. Even Must Watch is an understatement. Thank you Yuki Suetsugu. This series is a Gem.

    I'm so happy to see a Chihayafuru video from you! This is one of my favorite anime, and I feel like it's finally getting the attention that it deserves.
    Reasons to watch Chihayafuru:
    1. Characters and their development
    2. It makes you laugh, cry, and feel a large range of emotions.
    3. The animation and music
    4. The tension of the karuta matches
    P.S. It would be great to see a video on Haikyuu which is also technically current, but came out years ago. IMO, it should be watched for the same reasons mentioned above except replace karuta with volleyball.

    My fave anitubers are keeping me really busy, right now!
    MB has me hooked on Iruma-Kun
    BG = Mushshi
    And now GR = this one (I ain't even gonna try to spell it)
    And thank you so very much for deciding to focus more on older anime! I've only been watching anime for little less than a year now, so I rely on anitubers & bloggers for my shows, & I've discovered that I really like shows from the early 00s like Gunslinger Girl & Haibane Renmei, but, besides Beyond Ghibli & MB when he's doing a list, most folks focus on the hip & current stuff. So educate me, sensei!
