Yes, but a dress watch was not featured in the classic 1994 anime OVA series "You're Under Arrest" at exactly 2 minutes and 35 seconds into the first episode. This watch however, was ;D
My favorites are Sousou no Frieren and The Apothecary Diaries! I can't believe they both aired in the same season and also both are getting 20+ episodes! We've truly been blessed
Me too we’re really blessed!! They’re some of the only animes I loved so much that not only did I want to really buy the manga to show gratitude and experience it some more, but I felt like a new man afterwards
2023 is so absurdly stacked that it might actually be greatest year for anime of all time. You could maybe argue 1 or 2 more years could take that spot. But personally no. and that is only counting unique anime this year, not sequels or movies. it gets even better doing that.
One thing I liked about My Happy Marriage that really positively surprised me was how respectfully and realistically Miyo’s trauma was treated. In lots of the “escape my abusive family into the arms of a hot, powerful, protective husband” type stories, it’s like the protag’s problems end when she gets the guy, and then it’s just wish fulfillment. For Miyo, it’s very clear that her abuse has SHAPED her and affects the way she perceives her fiance and herself. Once he learns of her trauma, Kiyoka even comments that “this isn’t something that I can fix quickly or easily with affection and compliments,” and he realizes he will have to work WITH her to help her regain HER confidence so they can both move forward. The moment Miyo finally stands up for herself ends up being much more impactful as a result, bc we have seen her genuinely have to WORK for it. (Plus, Kiyoka being understanding and supportive of her journey makes him 10x more attractive as a love interest lol). Side note, but the show also did a good job of Miyo gaining confidence not only through, gaining a friend in her fiancé, but in expanding her circle more broadly. Multiple scenes or even episodes focus on her relationships with the housekeeper or her future sister-in-law, and those female friendships actually end up helping her as much as her romance. It’s great.
@@Dyundu If you started early, I think it helps to have a few eps to binge for this one. I picked this one up about halfway through it's run and probably would have fell off if I'd started from week one. Was a bit of a slow burn to get fully invested, but was definitely one of my favorites of the year too.
@reggie1025 as a weekly watcher I agree. Episode 1 was hard work and I was very worried the show would just be "trauma porn". Luckily that couldn't have been more wrong!
I always look forward to your videos and analyses. And the fact that you put in the time and dedication to watch every anime year is mind blowing to me - someone who hardly has time to indulge in the medium I love. I love your content man!!
I noticed he chose not to explain the plot of Astro Boy's Greatest Robot on Earth arc, likely because looking up the premise or seeing the first page would give away who the murderer is. Does Pluto work better if you go in blind to keep the mystery aspect, or is it more effective as a modern reinterpretation of an already great story?
@lucinae8510 I went in "blind" in the sense that I've only read Urasawa's own manga, and I haven't watched Astro Boy. It's perfectly self-contained; you don't need to know anything about the original arc. Just keep in mind that most (if not all) characters come from Astro Boy, but (AFAIK) become much more fleshed-out in Pluto.
Frieren is masterfully written IMO. It has been a long time that I have anticipated every new episode of a series the way I anticipate Frieren Friday’s. This series is the complete package, for me.
Frieren is my favorite of the year, and even if I still prefer it to Pluto, Pluto is definitely the best of the decade for me... After A Place Further Than The Universe and several others I don't bore you guys mentioning. In short, what I mean is that Pluto is the best of its kind after Monster, and I see no point in comparing something like Frieren to Pluto, each a masterpiece in their own category. Is Beethoven's 3rd Symphony better than Mozart's Jupiter symphony? Well, they're both classical works, but Beethoven was already immersed into a moment of very radical change that would lead to the romantic period, so it makes no sense. Is Tristan and Isolde better than Don Giovanni? By which standards? These comparisons don't make sense to me.
I did not seek out anime RUclips content for YEARS because I didn’t want to kill a pretty great algorithm. Eventually, I sought out Frieren YT videos because I loved the show so much. F*** that algorithm. I was SO HAPPY to see that so many other ppl also instinctually dubbed it “Frieren Friday”. Absolutely tickled me. For half a year, that was the best part of my week. I’m 35. I’ve been watching anime for 20 years, and seriously watching for 7-10. Frieren was the first time I truly considered an anime when scheduling my adult-ass week.
I'll be honest. It has been a long while since I last watched a Glass Reflection video, even though I've been subscribed for a few years. But man, I absolutely love your style of commentary Arkada. It's somehow both soothing and very entertaining, leaving me captivated the whole time, and before I know it, half an hour has gone by. I guess what I'm saying is, it's good to be back. Thank you for providing so much entertainment (and anime recommendations) over the years. :D
I watched it like halfway through but I had to drop it. It got too corny and cringe for me personally Maybe it got better but I was cringing through it all🤣🤣 Just to me ofc!!
@@pianistofthemosthigh totally get it not being for everyone. I will say it got better as it went along. The 2nd half had more serious moments that I really appreciated
I was so surprised. I watched a few episodes and to me it wasn't even as good as Ancient Magus Bride. I'd never place it above Heavenly Delusion either. Made me do a double take.
I am with you on Apothecary Diaries! As soon as I saw the first 4 episodes, I jumped at the chance to find the manga to read it. And both the manga and anime are INCREDIBLE! There are small tweaks to scenes that work because translating from still motion to animation needs adjustment and everything was handled PERFECTLY!
I appreciate the shoutout to Tearmoon Empire at the start, that show was legitimately the biggest surprise of the year for me. Also, I just put Sacrificial Princess, Otaku Elf and Apothecary Diaries in my PTW list, you've completely sold me on those
I agree with your opinion on "farming life in another world" I was so confused when suddenly Ru got pregnant, like it came out of nowhere, so I read the manga. Damn, they remove all the mentions of sex in the anime. Some jokes suddenly start to make sense. Like why the MC wants more male villagers, or the "big bed" scene, or why Ru really wants Tia to stay in the village and why Tia invites other girls to the village. The MC is a literal sex demon with unlimited stamina, so weird that they remove such an integral part in the anime.
@@amara560when I watched it I thought it was just the usual "horny joke" with no deeper meaning to it. But turns out the MC has been having sex with everyone in the village, it just never mentioned in the anime. They even have a schedule of who will have sex with the MC each day. Of course, this gets removed in the anime.
I love that the show doesn’t treat its viewers as dumb babies by explaining everything. It gives you clues to piece the story together yourself. Hopefully it’s gets a second season, because it was one of the best shows all year!
Easily the best show of the year. Respects the audience to put the pieces together and unlike shows such as Lost it actually gives us those pieces to assemble. Nearly everything we see in season 1 can be explained and the few we can't fully explain we at least know what is going on.
It felt like something between The Last of Us and Shinsekai Yori. I absolutely loved it, and it blew my mind once I realised that one of the two stories being told was actually in the past and seeing the tragic ends of some of the characters we had been following. Personally it's second only to (the first half of) Frieren to me.
My choice for AOTY is Insomniacs After School. A realistic and down to earth anime romance that is both honest and compelling, it does absolutely everything it needs to do in order to tell its story while avoiding doing anything that would take away from that same story. It is the simple tale of what happens when boy and girl meet, and I love it for that.
Agreed wholeheartedly about Insomniacs, it is such a wholesome story, and I am in love with the kids and their relationships! I read the first few chapters scanlated, bought the first 6 untranslated takubon so I could read them, translating them myself, and I've been buying the licensed translations as they (oh so slowly) come out. If there is a blu-ray coming out I'm buying that, too, it's just that good. IMHO, of course.
Many new ones for me, thank you! Honestly, if I hadn't watched your other videos, I might have doubted your taste. But now, I'm just thrilled you've given me more to explore.
Thanks for this. A few I'd bookmarked and a few you've confirmed :) . Also, thank you for getting me to try Slice of life. I'm currently going through _The Demon girl next door_ for down time.
My Happy Marriage is literally about a happy marriage though. She was treated bad in the past, but after got married she loved her husband and her husband loved her. So yeah, the title of the show is just right
I know top 10 lists are inherently subjective, but this felt more subjective than I've ever heard from you. Also would have loved more of your personal opinion versus just a summary of the anime. I was really looking forward to hearing more of your thoughts since in 2023 I also watched the first episode of every single anime. I hope we'll get a deepdive on some of these later on.

I always love watching Glass reflection's best of, because its always so different from everyone else's. I always find amazing gems here, Will never forget watching Shirobako as a recommendation from your video, all the way back in 2016
I'd love a series going back (time permitting) looking at older seasonal (and available) that might have been missed due to the massive amount of anime just buried
Yessss so happy to see My Happy Marriage on here. Not only a great romance and a great working worldbuilding period drama and great animation, but the opening is one of my top OPs ever, if nothing else everyone needs to see that. So much emotion and characterization and the music fits perfectly.
I'm just getting back into watching seasonal anime for the first time in about a decade (last time I followed anything currently airing was back in 2012 or so) and have watched very little modern anime other than a handful of things that some good friends have recommended to me. So a list like this is super useful for giving me some ideas of things to check out that are recent-ish. Already watching Frieren, and it's absolutely goated.
Oh brother you have missed out Since 2012? The years stepped on the gas after that. The years after never stopped getting good. Plus Jormungand aired that year and you probably missed that one. It's a good one tha you should absolutely check out. Specially if you liked Black Lagoon.
A fantastic list. Agree with all of it. I have yet to watch My Happy Marriage yet, due to not having my Netflix sub active at this time, but it's on the list to be binged the next time that I do reactivate the sub. I have seen everything else though and what an excellent year it was. XD
I can’t get angry at your #1 because I slept on Frienren for the first half of its release and dear god do I enjoy this sleeper of a series. Your video on it was spot on
Vinland Saga season 2 is my "Anime of the year" but that's not important. The reason I'm saying this is because watching Vinland Saga weekly is the reason why I picked up Stardew Valley and I was obsessed, so much so that I didn't watch anything for 3 months straight and finished the game. Its so fascinating that we both picked up Stardew Valley around the same time for 2 different series altogether. Anyways, you should catch up with Vinland Saga if you haven't already and yk get perfection in Stardew Valley if you have the time. P.S. Play on the beach farm 🏖️
@@jmaddey85 welcome to the club 🤝 I have been watching anime for 10+ years, and I have never really had a clear favorite anime until I watched Vinland Saga, such a masterpiece
the lack of Vinland Saga mention, even in the comments, caused me to actually google whether or not it came out this year. am I in another dimension?? why isn't it here??? like, okay, I am not dissing any other anime that is here... but Vinland Saga _has_ to be among them. I rate it at least as highly as Pluto, and I friggin LOVE Pluto. I know Vinland Saga came out earlier in the year, and a lot of the other heavy hitters are newer, but please. there is absolutely no reason for it to be absent.
Frieren is personally my favorite of this year as well. That first episode made me tear up at the end, and I hardly knew anything about the hero. One of my favorite comments in the show was, "You know I had a dream about my wife last night," followed by Frieren's response was just so perfect. Those who have seen it know what I'm talking about. For those that haven't, watch the show, it's worth it. My Happy Marriage is a close second. It just hit well with me, and I loved it. The surprise anime of the year for me was Dark Gathering (which actually has the perfect title by the way). I saw it and said, "Eh, why not." What I ended up watching was a great horror anime that actually chilled me to the bone in some ways (Meatballs, man, the meatballs). It just hit another spot that I haven't had hit in a long while. I wouldn't recommend for the squeamish or those that don't like horror. But, if you're not and you do, WATCH IT!
For Heavenly Delusion, at the end of the anime there was only like less than 20 chapters left to adapt. Now there’s a bit more but it’s monthly so it only comes out every so often. So it might not be because of low viewership (although it could be) but because of lack of material.
GR always has the caveat of "this is just my opinion, some of these are not popular" but I'll be damned if I haven't been coming to this YT for YEARS to filter through because I have the exact same taste and I know if GR recommends in a top list, I will love it. Thank you for your continued work over the years! This elder weeb appreciates you.
Oh damn, this made me realize I never actually finished My Happy Marriage. I was fully intending to, but because it's on netflix I quite regularly forgot to check it for new episodes, so as it stands I've only watched 10 of the 12 episodes. Time to remedy that before continuing this video
In no particular order my top 10 anime for 2023 are: - Vinland Saga season 2 - Trigun Stampede - Gundam: The Witch From Mercury - Oshi no Ko - Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 - 100 Girlfriends - Frieren - Pluto - Heavenly Delusion - The Boy and The Heron
i just want to thank you for sharing your top ten 10 anime for 2023, because of this video, i was able to watch the anime sacrificial princess and the beast of king, and i had a blast, finaly got a youtube anime chanel that i can trust.
As a 30 something year old anime fan I really appreciate this channel as his tastes are more closely aligned with my own. So many anime sites and RUclips channels would be quick to give top accolades to the most mainstream Shounen battle shows, but Glass Reflection's opinions, likes and dislikes are more on the mature side.
Saw Frieren coming for the top spot but I truly enjoyed it so far so I can understand why you praise it so much. It is truly gorgeous from an artistic standpoint and well written from a story standpoint. All the characters truly feel like real people with emotional struggles and not stereotypes. If you haven't seen it I tell ya to watch it. I have started to read the manga simply because of how good it is and I usually don't do that.
You mentioned that you started reading apothecary diaries, I started reading it as well. It's very rare for me to pick up a light novels series or a manga. The only other light novels I've ever read were monogatari and re: zero. After reading through the 10 volumes of apothecary diaries that have been translated, I started reading Ascendance of a Bookworm on a hunch. I'm extremely glad I did, this series is just incredible, and I really hope that the upcoming anime of the third part does the novel justice. The final volume should be coming out in the next couple of months (translated that is), and I'm absolutely looking forward to completing the series as well as seeing it adapted completely to anime eventually. The same goes with apothecary diaries, I'm glad that it got a season 2 because it's such a fantastic series both animated and as a novel. As for frieren, I'm worried that if it does get a season 2 it won't be at the same level as season 1. From what I understand, it was animated by the same people who did one punch man season 1. They generally don't do sequels which might mean that we end up seeing a significant drop in quality as far as animation and overall quality goes. I really hope they see this through to the end though; it is truly a beautiful story. As an aside, while I like manga, I prefer a novels and unfortunately frieren is primarily a manga. One of these days I will read through it, but for now I'm going to wait for it to get more animated seasons.
really solid list. my top list would also include Pluto, Oshi no Ko, Frieren, and Apothecary Diaries. I really did like Otaku Elf, but not enough for it to make my list. I think the other six for me would be Undead Murder Farce, Handyman Saitou in Another World, Skip and Loafer, Insomniacs After School, Bang Dream It's MyGo!!!! (yeah, I'm not kidding, and I'm not a fan of the bigger franchise, this is just the show on its own), and 100 Girlfriends. I could talk myself into swapping in The Dangers in My Heart, My Love Story with Yamada at Lv999, MagiRevo, Ancient Magus Bride s2, Stardust Telepath, or if I want to get myself in trouble, Onimai.
I'm so glad you liked Farming Life in Another World. It's definitely my go-to comfort show that I looked forward to every week and it still manages to be memorable to this day.
Frieren's great! And now i need to make sure Pluto is on my netflix list. Im not even sure how i felt about Monster in the end, but it was different and certainly makes me intrigued to see something by the aame creator.
I'm so glad you liked The First Slam Dunk! It absolutely blew me away when I watched it and it instantly became a favourite for me too. Just the way it made me and the whole audience sit on the edge of our seats in anticipation and excitement was truly special for a cinematic experience. I really hope it comes to streaming soon so more people can experience the glory of it.
@@CianaCortodoes Frieren get really good at some point or am I missing sth? Im like 5 episodes in and its mid tbh Dont get me wrong, its pretty and original, but definitely not earth shattering Vinland is waaaay better imo
I'm definitely more of an action fan than you but Frieren and Heavenly Delusion I'm fully with you on. For me those would probably be my top 2, followed by the continuation of The Ancient Magus' Bride and then some fun shounen/fantasy series.
Damn, putting that farming anime at no10 took gut. And that’s just awesome. I probably dropped it after a few episodes to go watch some other unremarked anime, but I definitely see the appeal.
My personal best 10 of 2023 1) Frieren 2) Jobless Reincarnation 3) Oshi no ko 4) JJK 2 5) attack on titan 6) skip to loafer 7) heavenly delusion 8) the apothecary diaries 9) campfire cooking in another world 10) demon slayer
Yup, I'll be looking forward to that Frieren video. As I reflected on how much I like it, I quickly came to the realization that this anime is clearly the best I've watched ever since FMA: B .
Based on your argument for including the Slam Dunk movie (released in North America in 2023), you could also include, or at least mention Kaguya Sama, The First Kiss That Lasts Forever.
Frieren is not just best of the year, it's the best of the last *10* years, I think. I don't know I've ever seen something that does as good a job at having a both cerebral plot and gorgeous visuals.
Top 10 for me. 1. Frieren 2. Oshi No Ko 3. Vinland Saga s2 4. Fate Strange/Fake movie Next 3 are basically interchangeable 5. Mushoku Tensei s2 6. SpyXFamily s2 7. Eminence in shadow s2 Next 3 are basically interchangeable 8. Undead Girl Murder Farce 9. The apothecary diaries 10. Edomae Elf
@@antonverminck5953 yea, also it is a tragedy that the movie did not get more attention. It totally surprised me, and it is currently my top ranked anime fate series/movie.
That manga is *ridiculous* with how good it is. How dare that mangaka. :) I may have put my husband off by explaining it as "ageless elf outlives her party and is taking a journey while she processes their passing" but then I said "But it's SO much more than that!" I'm going to get him to watch it, somehow.
You have given me information I did not have for some of these shows so I will check them out. From the clips that you showed, I don't know how I feel about that Slam Dunk animation.
While none of them made this list, Spring 2023 had to have had the best set of romances of all time. Insomniacs After School, The Dangers in My Heart, Skip and Loafer, Yamada-kun at Lv999, Galaxy Next Door, and more. It was nuts. Yes, Spring is always when the best romance anime come out, but that group was insane.
Skip and Loafer was probably a top 3 of the year for me. The way it portrayed romance was just so pure and I'm completely fine with the two title characters to just become best friends and never actually date.
16 Bit sensation: Another layer is got to be the best anime in 2023. It is nostalgic to look at the past of galgame, and also almost chilling to have commentary of the current gaming and also possible future of gaming
Did anyone watch My Home Hero? Easily my favourite of the year. If you like incredibly tense narratives with high stakes and morally complex characters, I cant recommend it enough. If you loved Breaking Bad or Ozark, you'll love My Home Hero.
@@amara560 fair enough. The animation wasn't the traditional anime style but I wouldn't say it was bad. And I wholeheartedly disagree about the pacing. It was one of the best paced things I've ever seen. I'd recommend checking out a few more episodes. Even though I had work in the morning, I couldn't stop watching and just had to see the next episode. Binged it all in 2 days.
I feel moderately miffed that Link Click didn't make the list. I am not saying it should be first place but getting placed even in honorable mentions would have been enough. That being said I think it is funny how it is mentioned how series not yet finished wouldn't be on this list and the #1 spot isn't even finished this year.
i new you'd love Sacrificial Princess and the King of Beasts. good new on more content from that world, there is a sequel manga that is ongoing about their son Richard. said sequel manga, The White Rabbit and the Beast Prince is 4 volumes deep.
For My Happy Marriage , I recommend you to read the light novels because seriously they made me feel a completely different experience. The pacing in the light novels was perfect. Watching the anime disappointed me a great deal even though so many loved it. . . . Just found your channel and I'm loving your videos. It's great to see someone trying to watch everything even if it's a shoujo. Thank you for appreciating all demographics and genres❤😊
I'm glad I finally see someone putting Pluto as one of their favourites of the year. And of course it had to be you. We need more Naoki Urasawa representation. 😁
My Happy Marriarge was a rather good anime that needed about 3 more episodes in its run time. But as Arkada said, between Kiyoka being wounded and cursed, the Saimori family backstory and mini arc, and Miyo finding her true, inner strength on her way to save her beloved, it feels like the second half of the series was supposed to be split between two seasons and it wasn't given that opportunity.
I love how high Apothecary Diaries is here, it's such a fun and intriguing show and what makes it special is that it has these believably smart characters that are actually well-written, especially when it comes to Maomao as a protagonist. She might genuinely just be my favorite character anime has put out this year and I dived into the LN immediately after the first cour ended (although just read the first volume for now) ^^
This is why i love Arkada he is the one that has very different shows on his top list compared to every other anituber i love Edomae elf so much noone talked about it tho
Just started the video and I'm here to say "The 100 Girlfriends who really really really really really love you" is the Harem anime to end all other Harem anime. Rentaro is the Chad we all wish we never have to be. No more will they/won't they nonsense. No more best girl war. Every girl is best girl (Hakari😁). And they all bath in the light that is the best harem mc ever. Heil Rentaro.😊😊😊

Looking forward to seeing that gushing about number 1 anime. And as a German speaker, it's amazing to hear you say that name so often. The ending may be paramount, but some shows even transcend that... and I agree
Damn, talking about Heavenly Delusion and not mentioning it's production values is wild to me. The Animation and music of it stand shoulder to shoulder with it's characters and the world.
It really was! The OP was lit. The animation, especially during the fight scenes had such fluidity. And the episode by Trigger (or at least one of their directors) although a bit of a deviation was actually one of my favourites.
Frieren is worth gushing about because while being a manga (and very talented adaptation) it has the vibes of a good fantasy novel, strokes tolkienesque fiction that are hard to properly describe. And despite that, the anime and manga use 'show don't tell' soooo freaking well. So many somber and little details are hanged here in there, as a piece of dialogue or as a visuel cue. Every frame and panel are working to progress the story. It's so rare and refreshing to see a story so laser-focused in the current landscape full of formulaic battle mangas and SoL timewasters.
Not just a fantasy novel but also the vibe of a fantasy JRPG like Dragon Quest and SNES Final Fantasy. I wouldn't be surprised if there is an RPG of this anime coming out in a year or two.
A classic dress watch would look better.
Yes, but a dress watch was not featured in the classic 1994 anime OVA series "You're Under Arrest" at exactly 2 minutes and 35 seconds into the first episode.
This watch however, was ;D

One thing I liked about My Happy Marriage that really positively surprised me was how respectfully and realistically Miyo’s trauma was treated.
In lots of the “escape my abusive family into the arms of a hot, powerful, protective husband” type stories, it’s like the protag’s problems end when she gets the guy, and then it’s just wish fulfillment.
For Miyo, it’s very clear that her abuse has SHAPED her and affects the way she perceives her fiance and herself. My own favorite anime of the year was _Pluto_ .
An excellent adaptation of incredible source material. _Pluto_ is arguably Urasawa's best work.
I was surprised it wasn't higher up the list!
Just keep in mind that most (if not all) characters come from Astro Boy, but (AFAIK) become much more fleshed-out in Pluto.
hmm, i thought pluto was his weakest work (still pretty damn good), imo his best work is 20th century boys

I genuinely thought it flew under the radar when I was watching it, a real sleeper hit
Sacrifical princess surprised the hell out of me. I am so happy it got a spot on your top 10 animes of the year list. It's really really good
I watched it like halfway through but I had to drop it. It got too corny and cringe for me personally
Maybe it got better but I was cringing through it all🤣🤣
Just to me ofc!!
It fucking was, so fucking good
I am with you on Apothecary Diaries!
Also, I just put Sacrificial Princess, Otaku Elf and Apothecary Diaries in my PTW list, you've completely sold me on those
This video got me to binge My Happy Marriage. I consider it THE hidden gem of 2023.
I agree with your opinion on "farming life in another world"
I was so confused when suddenly Ru got pregnant, like it came out of nowhere, so I read the manga.
It sounds like it needs a directors cut 🤔, either that or it simple wanted to be a cartoon.
Huh, I picked up on the jokes, but it did feel weird that she was suddenly pregnant. Might need to check out the source material
@@thetruth3068 Haha that's hilarious 😂
@@LittleFighter2005It is a cartoon
Watched Heavenly Delusion two days ago, happy to see it in the list, was surprised how good and strange it is and that many people missed it.
Finally someone said it and gave this series the praise it most definitely deserves
It was a great show, I hope for a season 2
How great the manga was, still not as great as the manga.
I was surprised this wasn't in his top 10! It is in mine.
Many new ones for me, thank you! Honestly, if I hadn't watched your other videos, I might have doubted your taste. But now, I'm just thrilled you've given me more to explore.
So happy that Sacrificial Princess is on here!
Thanks for this.
A few I'd bookmarked and a few you've confirmed :) .
Also, thank you for getting me to try Slice of life.
I'm currently going through _The Demon girl next door_ for down time.
Ohhh that's a great one, have fun
My Happy Marriage is literally about a happy marriage though. She was treated bad in the past, but after got married she loved her husband and her husband loved her. So yeah, the title of the show is just right
I know top 10 lists are inherently subjective, but this felt more subjective than I've ever heard from you. Also would have loved more of your personal opinion versus just a summary of the anime. I was really looking forward to hearing more of your thoughts since in 2023 I also watched the first episode of every single anime. I hope we'll get a deepdive on some of these later on.

Nice list!
As someone who personally don't look out for slice of life/slower anime, your list and perspective is really nice.
Yessss so happy to see My Happy Marriage on here. Not only a great romance and a great working worldbuilding period drama and great animation, but the opening is one of my top OPs ever, if nothing else everyone needs to see that. So much emotion and characterization and the music fits perfectly.
agree
Totally agree! We need more My Happy Marriage!😊
I'm disappointed more people aren't talking about it.
Im glad you guys loved it. It's kinda boring tho
@@jianyuyj2016 i respect your opinon.its not everyones cuppa tea so yeah
Got the chance to watch The First Slam Dunk in theaters, & since then I’ve been anticipating the day that it will FINALLY come out on Blu-Ray
Oh brother you have missed out
Since 2012?
Your video on it was spot on
FINALLY someone gave Sacrificial Princess some appreciation!
I agree, Vinland Saga is the best anime I have ever seen
I’m a new anime fan at the ripe age of 38 because Vinland Saga was so good.
@@jmaddey85 welcome to the club 🤝
I have been watching anime for 10+ years, and I have never really had a clear favorite anime until I watched Vinland Saga, such a masterpiece
Yes!!! Freiren!!! Also my favourite anime of the year, no doubts! Everything about it is perfect, I can't wait for your next video!!!
The first slam dunk is so good. One of my fave anime/films of this year. I love it so much.
the lack of Vinland Saga mention, even in the comments, caused me to actually google whether or not it came out this year. am I in another dimension?? why isn't it here???
like, okay, I am not dissing any other anime that is here... but Vinland Saga _has_ to be among them.
My fav of the year should be pluto, but surprisingly its trigun stampede for someone who never really heard of the classic series
Thanks Arkada for your #2 pick. I would have missed it. Instant buy.
Oh damn, this made me realize I never actually finished My Happy Marriage. I was fully intending to, but because it's on netflix I quite regularly forgot to check it for new episodes, so as it stands I've only watched 10 of the 12 episodes. Time to remedy that before continuing this video
I did the same thing, so you aren't alone. Netflix had some good stuff this year!
My best of 2023 was Vinland saga season 2 i loved that shit from start to finish.
But it was so fucking slow 😭
Yeh s1 was way bettter
@@Ru_90Nah. Its only slow if you wanted nothing but action (which is kind of against the whole main message of the first season, war = pain)
@@Ru_90it's not supposed be fast paced and rushed. It not a shonen anime to begin with.
@@onahandstanddon't watch the show then. It's not meant to be an action series.
In no particular order my top 10 anime for 2023 are:
- Vinland Saga season 2
- Trigun Stampede
- Gundam: The Witch From Mercury
- Oshi no Ko
- Jujutsu Kaisen season 2
- 100 Girlfriends
- Frieren
- Pluto
- Heavenly Delusion
- The Boy and The Heron
i just want to thank you for sharing your top ten 10 anime for 2023, because of this video, i was able to watch the anime sacrificial princess and the beast of king, and i had a blast, finaly got a youtube anime chanel that i can trust.
The outfit and cadence are giving Twin Peaks, subbed immediately
I really appreciate your sensibilities when critiquing anime
Always insightful and reliable
Frieren's great!
And now i need to make sure Pluto is on my netflix list. Im not even sure how i felt about Monster in the end, but it was different and certainly makes me intrigued to see something by the aame creator.
I'm so glad you liked The First Slam Dunk! It absolutely blew me away when I watched it and it instantly became a favourite for me too. Just the way it made me and the whole audience sit on the edge of our seats in anticipation and excitement was truly special for a cinematic experience. I really hope it comes to streaming soon so more people can experience the glory of it.
Frieren is that good!!!! It's beautifully animated and presented.
Same director as Bocchi the Rock. If he's willing to just alternate between these two shows for a while that would just be everything.
Holy sheeet u sold the hell out of that Slam Dunk. I went straight to watch it and man I thank you 🙏🏿
I just happened to watch the first slam dunk at the cinema when it came out! it was nice!

I probably dropped it after a few episodes to go watch some other unremarked anime, but I definitely see the appeal.
my favs were def Frieren, Heavenly Delusion, Oshi no Ko, and Otaku Elf. looking forward to next vid!
The fact that Vinland Saga season 2 is not on here makes this list seem entirely incomplete.

4) JJK 2
5) attack on titan
6) skip to loafer
7) heavenly delusion
8) the apothecary diaries
9) campfire cooking in another world
10) demon slayer
I really liked the Edo history vignettes in Otaku Elf that they dropped in every episode.
"Maomao's gremlin energy" gives ME energy. She's SO awesome!

You have given me information I did not have for some of these shows so I will check them out. From the clips that you showed, I don't know how I feel about that Slam Dunk animation.
I've been away from anime review channel for a while. Good to see i've missed so much interesting series. Time to go back 4 years and catch up
Frieren is one that I just started watching, and I totally get why you like it so much
While none of them made this list, Spring 2023 had to have had the best set of romances of all time.
Thanks for the video, put a couple of these on my list to catch up on.
Your seasonal and yearly are great to watch everytime. Keep up the good work

I watched the first episode, but the animation quality was so bad and the pacing was off. I hear the source material is worth reading though.
@@amara560 fair enough. The animation wasn't the traditional anime style but I wouldn't say it was bad. And I wholeheartedly disagree about the pacing. I feel moderately miffed that Link Click didn't make the list. I am not saying it should be first place but getting placed even in honorable mentions would have been enough. That being said I think it is funny how it is mentioned how series not yet finished wouldn't be on this list and the #1 spot isn't even finished this year.
Remember that Link Click is a sequel. It came out on Spring 2021
Glad to see you back, I was concerned that you had been away for so long!

Honestly a bit surprised Zom 100 didn’t make the list
love and appreciate these detailed reviews. your channel is awesome!
How did Hell's Paradise not make the list? It touched my very soul!
Tearmoon and the Great Cleric are probably the best "dumb fun" anime so to see them in the shoutouts is very deserved indeed.
Just started the video and I'm here to say
"The 100 Girlfriends who really really really really really love you" is the Harem anime to end all other Harem anime. Rentaro is the Chad we all wish we never have to be. No more will they/won't they nonsense. No more best girl war. Every girl is best girl (Hakari😁). And they all bath in the light that is the best harem mc ever. Heil Rentaro.😊😊😊
I'm sorry, you misspelled the best girl's name. It's spelled "Suu Hifumi", but you may not have gotten to that part yet :)
The first season got through 6. So at that pace we're looking at 16 seasons and a movie to finish the whole thing, right? 🤣

Right? The visual spectacle not even being mentioned saddened me.
@@pendaco ED WAS ALSO REALLY GOOD
Frieren is worth gushing about because while being a manga (and very talented adaptation) it has the vibes of a good fantasy novel, strokes tolkienesque fiction that are hard to properly describe.
