Thank you for mentioning Yatagarasu! It definitely went under the radar for a lot of people. The first half of the anime was absolute gold (especially the ending to the first half... literal goosebumps), but sad to hear you didn't enjoy the second half as much. I can relate because the second half did feel less intriguing at first, but the last few episodes reveal so much more about the world, why the crown prince acts the way he does and why they shift from ravens to humans. I liked it so much that I wish there was a second season or at least English novel translations. I hope you at least get to read a summary of the ending for closure :)

DanDaDan is my Anime of the year, simply for that fact that it got me back into Anime big time. No show in years made me want to watch Anime again this much.

Also, it is very similar to Natsume's Book of Friends, which is my 3rd favorite show of all time, so I'm probably a bit biased
My favorite anime of this year was The Dangers in My Heart…because that was the only anime I watched this year. However, even if I did actually watch more anime, I feel like it still would’ve been my favorite. It was just such a good romance anime!

Really thought you'd mention A Sign of Affection, it was a standout for me. Also, yes DanDaDan is my number one, but I'm also a manga reader and am biased af.
The first cour was sort of...mid tbh. They only had 2 solid fights and the rest was all talking. It was setting up the next cour which is going to be where the climax is.
@@Boomdizzle99 I personally thought it was great. Set-up oriented for sure. But the character writing was still great, the events were exciting, music/ acting was phenomenal. And scenes like capellas intro and Subarus speech were peak Second cour will be even better though, for sure
I never comment, on any videos, but by god thank you so much for having dungeon people on this list. I loved that show so much for no reason I could explain and I am so glad to hear other people felt the same as me.
You have no idea of THE SCREAM THAT I JUST SCRUMPT with that Frieren switch up because I was there with you. You continuously prove why I made the right choice following this channel. All of your pics are all of my pics(just a slightly different order) and since I watched all of Frieren this year, I get to keep it as my number one for this year🙌🏽🙌🏽
Thank god you mentioned Youkai san. Between Insomniacs, Youkai, and Yofukashi, Liden has actually been on a decent run lately. They do vibes extremely well. My list: 10. Gushing over Magical Girls 9. Train to the End of the World 8. Grandma and Grandpa Turn Young Again 7. Girls Band Cry 6. Jellyfish Can't Swim in the Night 5. Dandadan 4. Orb 3. Giji Harem 2. Youkai 1. Shoshimin Series If we're including sequels, 1 gets replaced by Monogatari, 3 gets replaced by Oshi no Ko, Konosuba 3 replaces Jellyfish, and Hibike 3 replaces Girls Band Cry Overall an insanely good year imo. Lots of great stuff.

Anime I have finished this year, and therefore my defacto list Frieren Dungeon People (seriously thanks to Akada for recommending this earlier this year, I watched the WHOLE thing in a DAY and then moved on to the manga) Gushing over Magical Girls Dragon Ball Daima 7th Prince Solo Leveling
My absolute favorite this year was I Parry Everything. Yes it’s not good but for some reason I rewatched it instead of finishing Dandadan. I’ve rewatched it three times. It’s “nice guy wish fulfillment” but it perfectly scratched my junk food itch. The year previous I loved Handyman Saito in another world and it has similar vibes for me.
Do correct me if I'm wrong, but from your commentary on Windbreaker you seem to adopt a point of view where if a manga is to be adapted, then the show should give us as much material as possible for the viewer to feel like the anime is advancing at a good pace towards the actual state of the manga? How would you reconcile this implied need of faster progression with the desire (I'm sure you share it) to see faithful adaptations that won't rush and possibly spoil the source material?
Guess for me it's kinda easy, as I base my picks on when series end. After all, I've been told many times that the ending is paramount! And thus: Frieren it is! As for the rest of the list....that's gonna be a bit more difficult....Dungeon Meshi sure is a contender, as are Undead Unluck, Kaiju No.8 and Spice & Wolf. Maybe Dandadan, though the rather random ending left me rather unsatisfied with that one. And Orb would obviously be, if not for the fact that it is still ongoing and will thus have to wait....just like Frieren last year.
Thanks a bunch for recommending Spice and Wolf! I’ve been hooked ever since I watched the first adaptation. I even started reading the novel, and it’s been an absolute blast.
Dungeon People is a tough pick to defend for me and there are others that I disagree with (especial dan da dan placement). BUT.... I do not watch a best anime list to know which anime is better, I can figure it out on my own, I watch Arkada's list to learn about hidden gems I miss every year. GR did an amazing job this year and I am now on my way to check out Yatagarasu. Good Job and keep it up!!!!
The feeling you had with Dungeon People I had with 'My Wife Has No Emotion'. It had a lot of heart in it, and even some themes about what makes something human, have emotion, or autonomy over itself. Ow and Tonari no Youkai-san definitely scratched that same itch for me!
I think the final couple episodes of Yatagarasu pulled the second half together a lot. It ended up being my No 2 of the year, and I do recommend finishing it if you have the chance.
My deer friend wasn´t my cup of tea either. I jumped on the hype train and episode 1 was fine but in episode 2 I was already noticing something isn´t right. Dropped it one or two episodes later. Syndrome was right "...and when everything is ridiculous... nothing is"
Ok. I’m going to do it too - my #1 anime of the year was “I parry everything”. Yes, DanDaDan is super awesome, and a standout for its excellent writing, creative animation, and memorable characters. But there was only one anime this year that I waited for with great anticipation every week, and it was not DanDaDan. Anime can hit a lot of weird vibes, and the one “I parry everything” was hitting really worked for me. Anime of the year 😂
First person I've seen also love Orb. It is so amazing and I just found it on accident. It's... beautiful and gutting and optimistic and demoralizing all in one show.
I always enjoy checking out GR lists as there's often something different in his best of year, and I've enjoyed a few of his personal recs like Reincarnated as a Sword, which was sweet as hell. My top of year was Frieren (as it finished this year) and Kimi ni Todoke S3, which no one else appears to have watched, so gratifying seeing Kazehaya, Sawako and co wrap up their stories.
I was happy seeing Orb in the thumbnail. The music is my favorite every episode I listen to the opening&ending. With dandandan I'll listen to the opening a few times but usually skip it to watch the anime but orb I love the music. Latest episode was nice drop a nice timeline data.
I'm glad you enjoyed All-Guy's Mixer contrary to your first impression of it! It's probably not top-three anime of the year material to many people, but I think it's a really enjoyable series.
I honestly thought you were going to make Shangri-la Frontier as best of the year, as to me it was a show that really made me wait to see it on its drop days.
I agree with you on Yatagaratsu, and I have watched it all. The twist within the 4 episodes you said you haven't seen in the vid is even worse. It's based on a multiple novel series that's about the fall of that empire, so it looks like the first half of the season is the 'happiest' part of the story.
You're absolutely right, in several points here. I also rate Dungeon Meshi above DandaDan. I enjoyed it, but it's definitely got the same vibe as something like Fooly Cooly and when something is more of a "just for fun" I can never rate it as number 1. I haven't heard of Dungeon People, but now I'll certainly check it out.
As a re zero fanboy I just wanted to say I watched this after avoiding being poisoned by looking at the comments and your take on season 3 is just funny in a good way 😅 yes, people complain about "waifu wars" but it's so obvious your jokes there are well intentioned and not writing the show off!!! So I appreciate that tbh. Serious takes on re zero are done to death after all so who wouldn't appreciate a rem joke other than who is rem? 😭😭😭 ANYWAY! Please know that Rem is a pivotal part of EVERY re zero arc, despite what people say. Subaru's entire character arc here is because of the grief over her, in all pf season 3 this will be the case. The problem is when people cynically try to guess the author's motivations. Tappei wrote arcs 1-4 very quickly and audience reception definitely didn't motivate Rem's coma. He also didn't demote her to a side character. Okay slightly spoilery but I'll try to be completely vague about it so you can't predict any of it: I love Rem's character and how she's handled. In arc 3 you see Emilia confront Subaru's putting her on a pedestal, but Rem never does that, she only goes up in Subaru's eyes. So when she's gone from everyone's memories and in a coma, Subaru's idealised version of her essentially canot be challenged. Although she called him her hero, she's more like one than he is because noone can fact check or get to understand her outside of his perspective. So what do you think will happen when she wakes up? I'm not really spoiling because everyone assumes she will and that's THE goal of Subaru in Emilia camp right now(which kind of takes over from any royal selection stuff since Subaru is obviously obsessed with getting Rem back). Do you think this will end happily? What about Emilia's future trial where she sees a Rem she can't remember holding Subaru's hand. She says she believes prayers are meant for asking for forgiveness. Why is she talking about forgiveness in such an ominous way? Rem's future arc is being set up right now, so if you're a Rem fan, forget about romance and focus on her character because it's foreshadowing her getting more focus. Always appreciate you including non binary people in your outros btw! 💖💖💖 I respect you a lot just for that.
Arkada out here praising Orb for having a complete source material to not deviate from, but I feel like we've been here before. We all know damn well ''completed source material'' didnt stop CloverWorks from butchering the second season of Promised Neverland.
Imagine feeling like you need to call yourself a "contrarian" for having and expressing totally reasonable opinions and preferences about-- *checks notes*-- anime of all things. Fun video dude :3 I was thinking about checking out Dungeon People and might make a point of it now before Winter anime pick up.
As an Old Fart, Dandadan's Ultraman and tokusatsu callbacks really resonated with me. For those who don't know, the 1966 Ultraman series was shown in the after-school slot in many US towns and cities from 1966 until the mid 1970's. I grew up on it and various "man in rubber suit" monster movies (tokusatsu)*. Maybe I will try to go back to and finish Kaiju No. 8, but I found the segments where the main character gets insecure and acts like a child really, really annoying. That is the kind of element that I found funny when I was much younger but now just wince when it happens. * One of my favorite terms for tokusatsu is "Suit-imation". You know, like "animation", but with characters in rubber suits.
Yeah! The all guys mixer anime was one of my favorites this season and Tonari no Yokai was my favorite of the year. Love hearing someone who appreciates my under-loved faves
Top of my list are dandadan, one piece fan letter, and dungeon meshi I've heard a lot of good reviews for orb.. I'm yet to watch it. However, I haven't really heard anything about Dungeon people before. So excited to see it
I appreciate your number one. XD my number one's are judged by the same metric, so i guess my number one this year was probably... monogatari. Or if we arent counting continuations, it was migi & dali
What your number one slot was going to be was throwing me for a loop until the honorable mention. And I really do agree with you about anime that are technically better anime than this one existing. But that number one also had a premise and concept that I really had an interest in, and that was enough for it to separate it from the rest of the pack.
hahahaha, Dungeon meshi got my mom into anime. FMA brotherhood was a great follow-up, she passed up frieren at first, but after fma she loved that one, now onto IBO, since we couldn't find the og gundam compilation movies (hidden in netflix...)
Kaiju number 8 is hands down an amazing show with a great intro, characters, and over arching story line. Delicious in Dungeon is a Netflix hidden gem and I can't wait for a season 3. Also, the number of beautiful IRL who fell in love with Senshi is inspiring. I respect DanDaDan for being unique, but the constant fan service and rape situations should warn everyone that picking this show as #1 is a serious RED FLAG!!!
Fun video, I enjoyed watching it! Really has that old-school anitube feel to it which I love :) Did you ever watch any of Shoushimin Series, by the way? I'm curious how you feel about that one.
lol bad timing on the vid in a way as Reincarnated as a aristocrat season 3 was announced like right after. So there is your answer i guess. (I love the show too)
Next year has walpurgisnacht Rising, witch hat atelier, the summer hikaru died, CITY the animation (closest to nichijou season 2 we'll get), steel ball run (delusion), and many seasons 2 of amazing shows. I'm excited for next year!
Wtf your videos aren't showing up in my subs I keep finding you 5 rows down my recommended. I know I don't watch every one of your videos but I still like your content and god I think I've been watching for over 10 years now o.o so what the fuck youtube.
Orb is very relevant to what is currently going on in science. There is an almost dogmatic protectionism of the current model of the universe, while at the same time, there are those in science treated like heretics for having a different model of the universe. It is not something to be debated here, but the anime Orb is very topical to current times.

Really thought you'd mention A Sign of Affection, it was a standout for me. Also, yes DanDaDan is my number one, but I'm also a manga reader and am biased af.
I know it was slipped between seasons but did you get a chance to watch DEAD DEAD DEMONS Dededestruction Arkada?
I remember when i started watching your videos like 10 years ago and I swear you haven't aged a day
Oof, that re:zero section hurt. No talk about all the great aspects, just a rem comment
Sad panda
The first cour was sort of...mid tbh. They only had 2 solid fights and the rest was all talking. It was setting up the next cour which is going to be where the climax is.
@@Boomdizzle99 I personally thought it was great. Set-up oriented for sure. But the character writing was still great, the events were exciting, music/ acting was phenomenal. And scenes like capellas intro and Subarus speech were peak
Second cour will be even better though, for sure
You do great work, thanks for these
I never comment, on any videos, but by god thank you so much for having dungeon people on this list. I loved that show so much for no reason I could explain and I am so glad to hear other people felt the same as me.
Did not expect that number 1 but it would be in my top 10 as well. Every friday i could not wait for the new episode to drop
You have no idea of THE SCREAM THAT I JUST SCRUMPT with that Frieren switch up because I was there with you. You continuously prove why I made the right choice following this channel. All of your pics are all of my pics(just a slightly different order) and since I watched all of Frieren this year, I get to keep it as my number one for this year🙌🏽🙌🏽
orb and trillion game are why madhouse is my fave studio.
truly quality over quantity.
Another Trillion Game enjoyer !? You love to see it.
7:15 - GOOD NEWS! "Reincarnated Aristocrat" announced their 3rd season just before you posted this!
Thank god you mentioned Youkai san. Between Insomniacs, Youkai, and Yofukashi, Liden has actually been on a decent run lately. They do vibes extremely well.

at a perfect time for me to watch anime during the break! thank you so much
Anime I have finished this year, and therefore my defacto list
Frieren
Dungeon People (seriously thanks to Akada for recommending this earlier this year, I watched the WHOLE thing in a DAY and then moved on to the manga)
Gushing over Magical Girls
Dragon Ball Daima
7th Prince
Solo Leveling
My absolute favorite this year was I Parry Everything. Yes it’s not good but for some reason I rewatched it instead of finishing Dandadan. I’ve rewatched it three times. It’s “nice guy wish fulfillment” but it perfectly scratched my junk food itch. The year previous I loved Handyman Saito in another world and it has similar vibes for me.
Great video, will try to watch your number one.
As usual one of ma guys who knows stuff❤😊
My deer friend wasn´t my cup of tea either.
I jumped on the hype train and episode 1 was fine but in episode 2 I was already noticing something isn´t right. Dropped it one or two episodes later.
Syndrome was right "...and when everything is ridiculous... nothing is"
Pssstt... Arkada!
Tighten your tie. Student Council President is coming this way. And she looks MAD!!
Thank god my favourite anime guy who's fav anime is also made in abyss discovered orb and has put it in the best anime list of 2024
Made in abyss still greatest anime ever
@robertsalfelder8111 absolutely agreed
Your number 1 was definitely in my top 10 of it's season, and I did quite enjoy it, but I don't know if I'd put it in my top 10 of the year.
Shout out to the few people (including me) who actually watched Dungeon People.
No Look Back? Or is anime movie not included in this list?
I always enjoy checking out GR lists as there's often something different in his best of year, and I've enjoyed a few of his personal recs like Reincarnated as a Sword, which was sweet as hell. My top of year was Frieren (as it finished this year) and Kimi ni Todoke S3, which no one else appears to have watched, so gratifying seeing Kazehaya, Sawako and co wrap up their stories.
Everybody has different tastes. Watch what YOU LIKE. 🧐👍
Not sure I would have checked out Frieren if not for this channel. Glad I did..boy does it go hard.
I was happy seeing Orb in the thumbnail. The music is my favorite every episode I listen to the opening&ending. With dandandan I'll listen to the opening a few times but usually skip it to watch the anime but orb I love the music. Latest episode was nice drop a nice timeline data.
2024 is a banger year for me, but then I actually liked Makeine.
I was genuinely hoping for "Review week of awsome 2024"
I remember u doing it way back in 2020
Hope u do it again
I'm glad you enjoyed All-Guy's Mixer contrary to your first impression of it! It's probably not top-three anime of the year material to many people, but I think it's a really enjoyable series.
I honestly thought you were going to make Shangri-la Frontier as best of the year, as to me it was a show that really made me wait to see it on its drop days.
As a Reincarnated Aristocrat, I'll Use My Appraisal Skill to Rise in the World just got greenlit for a season 3 right after the last episode.
Yay! So glad to see I'm not the only one that really liked Dungeon People. Also glad to see Yatagarasu getting some much-deserved attention.
I also love how Dungeon Meshi handles steaks.
ANYWAY!
I think it'd be fun to only hear your thoughts on season 3 after it's completed tbh. You uhhhh...might hate it lol. I hope you'll like it though.
"Orb" has a link cable in my mind to speedrunning at GDQ. Whenever I hear it, someone in my memory yells out "Orb!" in my mind's ear.
Arkada out here praising Orb for having a complete source material to not deviate from, but I feel like we've been here before.
We all know damn well ''completed source material'' didnt stop CloverWorks from butchering the second season of Promised Neverland.
ah good, Glass Reflection season wrap up. because as we all know, the ending (of a season) is paramount!
Unwanted Undead Adventurer is far better than That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime in my opinion.
Yeah! The all guys mixer anime was one of my favorites this season and Tonari no Yokai was my favorite of the year. Love hearing someone who appreciates my under-loved faves
Dungeon Meshi’s anime adapted just about half the manga, I think season 2 will be able to do it really well, great story
Top of my list are dandadan, one piece fan letter, and dungeon meshi
I've heard a lot of good reviews for orb.. I'm yet to watch it. However, I haven't really heard anything about Dungeon people before. So excited to see it
Dungeon people definitely was one of my top for 2024
I appreciate your number one.
19:30 when he said "Ohhhh dungeon meshi" i laughed out loud
Kaiju number 8 is hands down an amazing show with a great intro, characters, and over arching story line.
Delicious in Dungeon is a Netflix hidden gem and I can't wait for a season 3. Also, the number of beautiful IRL who fell in love with Senshi is inspiring.
I respect DanDaDan for being unique, but the constant fan service and rape situations should warn everyone that picking this show as #1 is a serious RED FLAG!!!
Fun video, I enjoyed watching it! Really has that old-school anitube feel to it which I love :)
Did you ever watch any of Shoushimin Series, by the way? I'm curious how you feel about that one.
lol bad timing on the vid in a way as Reincarnated as a aristocrat season 3 was announced like right after. So there is your answer i guess. (I love the show too)
GR is the only anime youtuber I watch. We have the same opinions, and we always like the same anime. This man is the best judge.
Next year has walpurgisnacht
Rising, witch hat atelier, the summer hikaru died, CITY the animation (closest to nichijou season 2 we'll get), steel ball run (delusion), and many seasons 2 of amazing shows. I'm excited for next year!
Wtf your videos aren't showing up in my subs I keep finding you 5 rows down my recommended. I know I don't watch every one of your videos but I still like your content and god I think I've been watching for over 10 years now o.o so what the fuck youtube.
On a side note, first half of beastars s3 dropped a few weeks ago and nobody’s talking about it
Orb is very relevant to what is currently going on in science.
There is an almost dogmatic protectionism of the current model of the universe, while at the same time, there are those in science treated like heretics for having a different model of the universe.
It is not something to be debated here, but the anime Orb is very topical to current times.
