Mars Bonfire - Born To Be Wild (1968)

This is the rarely heard original version of the tune, written by Bonfire and made famous by Steppenwolf. Mars Bonfire (Dennis Edmonton) was in an early version of Steppenwolf (The Sparrows) before embarking on a sporadic solo career.
Bonfire continued to write the occasional tune for Steppenwolf through 1975.
