Shazam! - Rare & Obscure Music
Добавлен 29 дек 2016
Just a music geek who started accumulating records/cds/tapes at the young age of 5, when I forced my mother to buy me a copy of The Beatles' "I Want To Hold Your Hand."
What you'll find here is an eclectic collection of music (and the occasional video) which I feel deserves a broader audience. I own nothing here and if you feel any of this music should be removed from this channel, please let me know rather than flagging the content. Now on to the music. Enjoy.

Charlie Burton & Rock Therapy - Rock & Roll Behavior (1977, non-LP version)
Charlie Burton passed away Sunday, September 15th at age 73. If you lived in the midwest in the 1970s/1980s and you loved bar band rock & roll, you may have witnessed one of the many wild performances of Charlie with his bands Rock Therapy and, subsequently, the Cut-Outs.
Please enjoy "Rock & Roll Behavior," the 45 rpm version of the tune from 1977, which is different from the version that appeared on his first LP.
RIP Charlie Burton.

Michael Nesmith - Joanne (Monkees?) demo 1969
Просмотров 2,3 тыс.Год назад
I'm not sure if this early demo was recorded for possible inclusion on a Monkees album after PRESENT, but what IS clear is that, when this demo was recorded, Michael was still active with the Monkees. It's interesting (and fun) to spectulate what might have happened if this appeared, in an arranged version of course, on a Monkees album and as a single.
Michael Nesmith - Wax Minute (Live 1974, Unedited)

"Wax Minute" live at the Zig Zag concert in 1974 with unedited intro. And yeah, Michael, I do believe it IS in "A".
The Brains - Money Changes Everything - Original pre-Mercury 7"
Просмотров 8182 года назад
Original version (pre-Mercury) of this great tune. This was on the independent Grey Matter label. Check my other videos for the "official" Mercury release from 1980.
Angel From Montgomery - The Dancing Hoods (John Prine cover)(1988)
Просмотров 2574 года назад
I always thought John Prine's songs would sound great rocked up just a bit. This excellent version of the John Prine tune can be found on the 1988 album "Hallelujah Anyway" by the Dancing Hoods. RIP John Prine
The Monkees - Last Train to Clarksville - Manchester, England - 3/15/97
Просмотров 2094 года назад
In 1997, all four Monkees did a short tour of the UK in support of the JUSTUS album. When the tour moved to the United States, Nesmith declined to participate and the tour was completed by the trio of Jones, Dolenz and Tork. This performance in Manchester was one of the last times all four Monkees performed as a band. It's a shame that there is official recording of any of the UK shows.
Crack The Sky - From The Greenhouse (1989, 2019) The Best Pink Floyd Song You've Never Heard
Просмотров 2755 лет назад
Originally recorded in 1989, this is the band re-recording the tune for 2019. Usually these "re-recordings" don't go well, sending the listener back to the original tune. This, however, is the superior version by a band that's been around since 1975. Written by band leader John Palumbo, this may be the best Pink Floyd song you've never heard. From the album "Crackology," which is available (alo...
Mars Bonfire - Born To Be Wild (1968)
Просмотров 16 тыс.5 лет назад
This is the rarely heard original version of the tune, written by Bonfire and made famous by Steppenwolf. Mars Bonfire (Dennis Edmonton) was in an early version of Steppenwolf (The Sparrows) before embarking on a sporadic solo career. Bonfire continued to write the occasional tune for Steppenwolf through 1975. From his solo album "Faster Than The Speed Of Light," released in 1968.
#15 The Swimming Pool Q's - "The Radio in Memphis" (2003)
Просмотров 2246 лет назад
In 2003, the Q's reconvened to record their first album in 10 years, "Royal Academy of Reality." Predictably, the album, which may have been their best, went nowhere. The album's best track, "The Radio In Memphis," is featured here. The entire album is very, very good....sort of like prog rock meets the Beach Boys with a touch of the Beatles tossed in for good measure.
#14 Bruce Cockburn - "Strange Waters" - Rare Live Version
Просмотров 8306 лет назад
Recorded live on the "Charity Of Night" tour. The original version can be found on Cockburn's "Charity Of Night" album.
#13 Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers - "Ways To Be Wicked"
Просмотров 11 тыс.6 лет назад
In the early 1980s, Tom Petty wrote a song specifically for the alt.country band Lone Justice. The song was called "Ways To Be Wicked" and it turned out to be a decent (and pretty much the only) hit for Lone Justice. Petty never released the tune on one of his proper albums. Here it is for you to enjoy!
#12 Robin Zander (Cheap Trick) - "What's Her Name?" - From Unreleased 2010 Album
Просмотров 5 тыс.6 лет назад
In 2010, Robin Zander recorded a solo album entitled COUNTRYSIDE BLVD which remains unreleased. This Buddy Holly inspired track is from that album.
#11 Michael Nesmith - "The Candidate" (Live on the Country Suite Show 1972)
Просмотров 7866 лет назад
One of the rarest Nesmith items I've discovered is this rare Nez appearance from 1972 performing "The Candidate," one of the more obscure tunes from AND THE HITS JUST KEEP ON COMIN'. Sorry for the sub-standard sound quality, but I have not heard this one elsewhere and I feel fortunate that this recording exists at all.
#10 Garland Frady - "The Barrooms Have Found You" (produced by Michael Nesmith) 1973
Просмотров 7536 лет назад
This was the final track (and the only original tune) from Garland Frady's 1973 album "Pure Country," which was produced by Michael Nesmith. "Pure Country" was one of only two albums released on Nesmith's Countryside label. The song features the backing of Nesmith's Countryside Band, which also backed Nesmith on his "Pretty Much Your Standard Ranch Stash" LP, as well as Ian Matthews 1973 releas...

Amazing!!!!!!!!
Saw The Brains - Paradise Club - Boston
I knew the Cyndi Lauper song was a cover but I never heard it til tonight...October 8 2024
How fun! It sounds very Alt. Country & Tom pulls it off singing it💘🎩🎸💘
The dollar bin at Amoeba is gold mine for those willing to venture.
I've never been a fan of the fade-out so I like this ending much better. Great song, killer bass!
This song debuted at #36 on our local radio station (WARM-590) on October 4, 1970, inched a little higher, and two weeks later dropped out of the top 40. But that was enough to plant the song in my head, and now 54 years later I love it just as much as ever. (Who else would rhyme wisdom with prism?) Nice to hear this early version with his beautiful falsetto leap reserved for the final verse. Thanks, Shazam!
70’s and 80’s music scene in Atlanta was pretty cool. The Brains, Guadalcanal Diary, The Producers. All awesome bands.
Pylon, 86, The Roys, Swimming Pool Qs, etc...
I just love this song so much! Michael is so talented and sings the best country songs ever! I go album by album every night even though he isn't with us anymore! I plan to meet Michael in Heaven for sure!
He was so funny He is missed
Well, he says its not in A, but I play it in A and it work’s absolutely fine 😉…😊
Cyndi Laupers version is the one I heard at 14. It was always my favourite song of hers. This is the first time hearing the original. Its good but it needs some 80's synths. She made it bang. Bring it on dorks! Lets go!
Kind of a Robert Hazzard vibe to this original. She mustve really dug his style cuz she covered his Girls too.
Never be another...Love you Mike
I love the man and the singer... Miss you Mike...
I guess I'm the anomaly here. I only knew the song from Delta Moon. Never even heard this one or the Lauper version. To me, Delta Moon is the best version of the three.
No body does it quite like the heartbreakers!!
A lot of people here are criticizing Cindy Lauper. But the fact there are so many comments about Cyndi Lauper actually proves what a stamp she put on the song. If nobody knew about her version, nobody would be commenting on it.
It's all in the past now 💔
The wink of Papa Nez! That and a song like this are the perfect therapy! 🎵
The one and only Papa Nez.
I’ve been listening to the Against Me version for years and only just learned it was a cover. I’d also never heard the Cyndi Lauper version. I like them all, great song.
Didn't realize Against Me covered this. Gotta check it out.
I played this song and several others off of this solid album, while doing a DJ stint at WGHR (Green Hornet Radio) at Southern Tech in Marietta GA in the late '70's. It was one of the most requested albums. Great stuff. RIP Tom Gray.
One of my favorite songs.
RIP Scott. NJs own. This albums long out of print. And GLASSFINGER!
Fantastic cover of Cindy Lauper's song. Very emotional.
This portrait shows his spiritual stage as if he is an old wise man. The Old Wise Man is one of Archetypal images in the C.G.Jung's theory of Psychology for dream analysis, universal motif of wisdom all around the world. He could gain his own inner depth of Mind as he had said " I Me Mine.".
I didn't know this band. This is a superb song
Every member in this group except Tom went on to play with the Georgia Satellites.
Original song is great but Cyndi kicked it up to the next level.
Tom's band Delta Moon released it, and it's the best version, by far.
The man with a thousand voices
Thanks for posting and sharing! He also played Joanne on this show. I’m big Nezhead. Hit me up if you want me to send stuff I might have you might not. Thanks
Thanks for posting and sharing! Nez is the man!!
I loved this Brains song from way back. Then years later Cyndi kicked the shit out of it big time. But Ill always love the Brains doing it. A raucous rock n roll band with an unbelievable great song. Perfect
Cyndi had good taste to cover this 🥰🍻
I saw this tour. Excellent performances from Bruce and Band members. Excellence.
Saw The Brains in Burlington VT at Hunts ... sheesh ... how many years ago? Great show - great band!!
ALL MY LOVE, GEORGE!!! THANK U FOU HIS LIFE #❤🙏✨
It was a true treat to get to sing bgvs on this record for Robin! One of the highlights of my career
You won't find a bigger Petty fan than me but Maria & Lone Justice own this banger! They were truly amazing in an LA period of such amazing bands and diversity! A great band gone way,WAY too soon.
What a great song, and wow, what a great performance. The whole Zigzag concert is amazing. Love how Nez worked it out on the spot even though he hadn't played it in years - it's a complex song! And he pulled it off. Consummate professional performer!! Miss you Michael. Thanx for all the sweet music and the grand ride!
Anyone else think John Waite's "Tears" is almost a copy of this . Listen to both and see the similarity
great song! great vid! thanks :)
many blessings
I love this song! I miss you so very much Michael. ❤
A song that stays in your head, very beautiful song.😊
Never heard this before but what a fantastic song. A German drama on Amazon Prime called Luden brought me here as it's in the soundtrack along with some other great 1980 songs
One of the Truest songs ever written!
This sounds as if it would've been on "All Things Must Pass."
Cyndi did it better
