    One thing that you really didn't mention, though it's important: All of this only matters if people play well. Either 4 good players, or a competitive environment.
    If I had to choose between an Orochi who just feeds revenge while getting external blocked, or a Lawbringer/Bash Prior who just sits on the point and tries to hold it, stall it from being sneakily captured, you know my choice.
    Since it isn't a choice I can make, I stick back myself, as I have no intention fighting with an useless teammate at my side, versus 1-4 enemies who just spam me with bashes and 50/50 guessing game moves. I sit on the point, boost, slowly gain points, go clear mid when it saturates, then I stroll back. Hold the point versus the occasional opponent that comes, then cry when few meta characters beat my pick from the other 70% of the cast, and my team can't get either mid or the other point versus one person.

    I personally think that boosting the nearest point to the enemy spawn with 2 people total is a good way to keep them away from mid and your nearest point.
    The reason why is it demands your opponent's attention on some maps, thus making them waste their time and keep them away from other objectives.
    Except of course if they finally grow a brain, communicate as a team and gank you 4v2 or prioritise other objectives (which still are maybe defended by other 2)
    This is at least my way of seeing this, because i mostly play and communicate with my team of 4.
    But i still agree that one person won't make much of a difference if they're alone in the lobby with randoms.

    I disagree with this argument partially because one major variable is missing and that's the enemy attacking your boosted point. While you are correct that boosting all game is not good, staying on one point, depending on your enemy, can be good. If the enemy gets behind in points, your point is likely the first place they will go to and you will begin to stall and your teammates can help. If you win that fight, you get a major boost on the scoreboard and in points. This makes it so "boosting" and "defending" combined are well worth it. That said, if someone's point never gets attacked, which is very rare from what I've seen, then yes, only boosting is a not sound strategy. Ideally your teammates would focus on stalling the other two points and force your team to only have the points.

      I'm just going to copy and paste a comment I made.
      Competitive player here, this isn't a viable tactic considering how if two people boost one zone the entire match the 2 people at mid are still going to have quite the tough time especially if they aren't going the correct heroes for mid. In most competitive scrims and dominion tournaments, a heavy like Black Prior or Warlord only boosts when the team doesn't know where all the enemies are if they do, that is when they leave for rotations and help their team at mid. Plus it isn't BAD to boost a zone it's just that boosting the entire match is utterly terrible.

    • @demonwolf570
      @demonwolf570 4 года назад

      @@lepyramid5730 2 people boasting a single zone is bad optimally but 1 (preferably heavy for the additional points for defending a zone) allows you to get the most you can out of a zone but unless you're capturing a zone in Breach it's pretty redundant.

    Thanks freeze, I had been wondering for a while why my team had been mad at me for us winning a game. Their main point was the fact that I was boosting a zone all game, and I hadn't understood that. Thank you for letting me know and others know that its a bad thing to boost all game. You really helped me freeze, and I hope others take your information as well as I did. Although I will say, when my teammates invited me to a party to ask what I was doing all game they were quite rude, I can understand they may be tilted after a match but really it would've gone the extra mile for them to explain why what I was doing was a bad thing for the team and not to do it anymore. I can't be hopeful for people to be like that anymore as I am playing For Honor of all games. (at least its not league of legends)

  • @Zayl1016
    @Zayl1016 4 года назад +1

    Hey this was actually quite eye-opening. I will say though that when you are boosting a point and also managing to fight off ganks with a pretty decent antigank hero (like JJ), you're doing way better. If you can consistently beat a 2 or 3v1, you are doing your team real well as even though you might not be gaining points with a contested zone, you are depriving two other important zones of a number of heroes. I have had games where we should have lost but a good warlord/conq/JJ was fighting off ganks in a zone most of the match and thus kept us in good standing.
    But I used to genuinely think if I parked my ass in a zone, the unattested point accumulation was worth it and the longer I stayed there the better it was. Thanks for the vid!

  • @reonthornton685
    @reonthornton685 4 года назад +1

    The best thing to do is to play to your hero's strength if they have good minion clearing capabilities, or just keep an eye on what's going on elsewhere in the map if you are boosting. Boosting all game can be a good idea but only if you're having to defend it with some regularity. If your enemies are focusing the other points and your team can't dislodge them, you need to assist them.
    In other words, stay aware of what's going on in the battle and keep to where you are most helpful, even if that doesn't look like you get the most points.

  • @albedoalbatross
    @albedoalbatross 4 года назад +1

    Though there are some points I agree with, there’s also the point of teammates actually guarding the point from enemies. In a perfect FH match, yes I can see the team actually dealing with a 4v3 if the teammate does nothing but boost, but you also forget that the enemy might also try to point rush and gank the point guard. So technically it can range from 1v4 to a complete 4v4. And the way you made it seem was that the enemy would go after the other points other than the boosted zone

    • @albedoalbatross

    First off: Thanks a ton for this video. Trying to explain to people how they are not contributing to the team's success, despite them top-scoring is such an absurdly frustrating task. Maybe this will change some people's minds. I feel like the biggest issue however stems from the fact that the game's UI straight up "lies" to the player. If you just look at the HUD, it seems like holding the midlane only gives +1 score a second, while holding A and C gives +2, so naturally A and C seem way more valuable, especially if you boost. In reality though the scoring works differently:
    - Unboosted capture zones grant 0.74 points/sec (44.4/min)
    - Boosted capture zones grant 1.85 points/sec (111/min) a x2.5 multiplier
    - Holding mid lane/minion zone grants 1.35 points/sec (81/min)
    - "Farming" mid (ie. killing minions as fast as possible) gives between ~40 and ~70 points/min, depending on the map, with most maps giving ~50/min (0.85/s)
    If Ubi wants people to actually play "properly" they should honestly start actually displaying how much each point contributes to the team. You can't fault people for making bad decisions, if they are given incorrect information. Renown probably also needs to be looked at. Especially Heavies get ridicolous renown for just parking the bus at home base all game.

    Personally I've found my favorite strategy working in 4s is to have a designated initial anchor on a home point while the rest of the team runs to the mid-lane initially, once the mid Lane is taken, the enemy team ends up in a choke point on B fighting for control, at which point the initial anchor can rotate out with teammates as needed to keep a constant presence in mid, or they all rush the initial anchor point and we simply rotate our anchor point to the one they decided not to focus on. Executed properly this strategy yields an initial 2-300 point lead, even if you lose your anchor point fairly early. And as long as you can maintenance the minion lane after that and run back captures on the main points then you're good.

    One of my strategies as Orochi as crazy as it is, is to attack zone A as Attacker or C as Defender since those are closest to the enemy spawns. For example, if we are playing sanctuary bridge, or any map that has a point closer to the opponents, run to their point and hold it as long as I can. I agree that it's not good to just stand there on a point all game BUT if you leave it every now and then to Clear B and help teammates on mid or nearby in general I think it is reasonable. Quite often I'm in a Situation where I have nowhere to heal since no one was defending our "gimme point". The result is that the team gets slaughtered most likely if they already lost some or a lot of health which then leads to the opposing team having more time to secure these objectives + B while we are dead. It also gives them renown when they pick up these easy kills which makes the rest of the match more of an uphill battle even if you team up and try to take back your home point you get fire flasked, spear stormed etc. you name it. it is very hard to get ouf that situation and more often than not it results in your team breaking. So it's a thin line between being useless and uselful. People need to find a middleground
    Edit: watched more of the video and you mentioned most of what I've said

    As a slow ass Highlander main, I tend to stand on points as long as I possibly can. If there is a 3v4 fight going on, I try to wait long enough for a teammate to gain revenge or to asses if they need my help at all. If so, I will have usually boosted the zone long enough for us to have an advantage so I come in to help. If we are getting steamrolled, I like to capture the opponent's zone and boost it, which forces them to either lose points overall (as our zone will be contested more often) or come attack me which takes pressure off of my teammates. Worked well for me so far. Of course, if a teammate comes in and starts boosting the zone, I leave immediately. In my experience, unless we are winning by a landslide the enemy team will eventually come to challenge my boost, so I end up contributing to the fight without having to leave the zone. If the enemy has mid and their zone boosted, there is not much point for me to boost our zone, so I try to leave and capture one of theirs or contest it to reduce their point income.

    I boost all game if the point I’m boosting is CONSTANTLY being attacked (as in a defeat one guy and not 5-10 seconds later another one comes along. It sucks to have two enemies constantly attacking your point and your three teammates can’t seem to contest B OR the other point against two enemies. Surely that would be an exception because it happened to me often?

    I stay at one point normally until the minion lane is lost, then I head over to clear it. However, If backcapping is happening 4.6 seconds every time I leave any zone I'm just just stay at it for the rest of the game because I'm not abandoning my team in a 4v3. They are actively trying to take this point. Freeze didn't mention this type of situation but it happens quite a bit on smaller maps. Especially a lot on Shard.

    I think a great video idea would be explaining why those changes in the recent testing ground that made more attacks unreactable (or harder to react to) is healthier for the game. The warrior's den did explain the concept behind why it would be healthier if more moves were more unreactable but you could tell a lot of people either misunderstood what was being said, or didn't listen to it.

    I think the ideal strat is pair roaming at the start, two break off their pair to the middle lane who have strong/stronger minion clearing than the partner.. Since both instances have the mid lane decently close to both points switch off and panic back-up if the first pair gets that 4 player deathball on one point.
    Divide and conquer is good but solely depends how the other team even works to begin with, if they strictly deathball then it's a simple game because though they have the most kills in some instances they play more recklessly feeding the oh so useless revenge we always need lol increases a team's improbability of dying to deathballing.. Unless of course they gank smart which is often the case but I still think this is the overall best strat for Dominion.

    I do find it's more beneficial with a bunch of randoms simply because while holding it I'll frequently be attacked 1v1 or 2v1 at the point i'm holding. This often results in an even or better situation for teammates and of course an easy spot to come back from minion and heal ( at which point i'd leave the point for minion lane ). I can see how with a team that's communicating this is bad. But too often i find if I leave our point all that happens is teammates won't notice the other team running right past them and sniping the point. Then everyone gets scattered , potentially dying in awkward situations and now opponents end up holding 3 points until respawn. And at this point usually enemy team will have 3 or more people come to the closest spawn point and it turns into a big brawl at that point that takes awhile and meanwhile they'll still have minion and their closest point. Obviously on the right team staying there all game is bad, but with a bunch of randoms as long as enemies keep coming my way it seems to work well.
    edit : nm , i made this point before the 5:00 minute mark, he just covered this.

    Honestly, I always assumed that rotations were pretty common (at least as long as injured players have the sense to retreat when injured and not die needlessly). Even still, pretty annoying when you have teammates using mid clearing classes try to boost when you're using someone who can't clear mid nearly as well. Guess that's why we don't play with randoms.
    If you do see this comment, I'd like to suggest a video about something like "what to do when breaking" or some such (especially for situations where even holding all zones won't cause your team to rally). I feel like a lot of people will just do whatever they were already doing even if you can no longer rally. Not sure if I'm doing things wrong by trying to gather everyone together for a last stand or if the randoms are by splitting up and trying to push the zones. I could honestly see either one, or both, being wrong.

    I see your (Freeze) point, and I agree that an extra teammate in ganks is generally more valuable than one boosting a point all game, but allow me to pull up some points on why people do this.
    -People don't trust their teamates. In solo matchmaking, it's hard to coordinate a team objectively, so usually they just go around killing people and leave behind unprotected points. There were also times when my randoms were feeding the deathballing team at A, so I just camped C in hopes that they moved on. By the time my teammates gave up on feeding them, we still had a chance of winning because I farmed C and B.
    -Another reason is because the player sucks. One of my friends is new to the game, and she struggles against the people I matchmake with her (I'm a much higher rep than her). We tell her to sit the point, because she becomes a liability in ganks, feeds people revenge, and cannot hold her own against most people. We opted to let her take a defensive playstyle by camping points, and so far it has worked out fairly well in both the enjoyment and strategy of each game. If she encounters someone, we rush back and help her as she holds them off.
    -It's actually a viable strategy. I know you (Freeze) literally said that camping a zone is more of a detriment than a help, and I agree, but sometimes it's for the better. Having a boosted zone all game is a huge benefit to the team score wise. IF your team is capable of 3v4ing the enemy team (via revenege gain, seperating them, deathballing, etc.), then it would actually help more by boosting a zone and leaving them to their own devices.
    To be honest, boosting a zone the entire game or not is not an individual problem, but is rather part of the bigger question, "What should I be doing right now?" If your team has control of the map, is absolutely destroying the enemy themselves, find you more problematic than useful in fights, or is just so incompetent that you need to carry your team point-wise to stay in the game, than staying at a point(s) instead of helping the team is completely viable.
    However, like you've (Freeze) said, if the team needs help in a critical gank that they're struggling with, need help capping points, or anything else that needs additional assistance that you are capable of doing, than you should leave and help.
    It's all about what you should be doing in reaction to the current situation, not cemented rules on how long you stay at a point. If you need to camp or help, do it to the benefit of your team. Thank you for listening to my Tedx talk.

    It's definitely frustrating when people sit on a point, though I'm less inclined to be annoyed by it if the map is something like Sanctuary Bridge and they are sitting in the 'home' point for the other team, since the other team tend to throw throw themselves at that point. Also not so annoying if it's A point on The Shard, since that just seems to be where pretty much *all* the fights happen. I'll just bounce between B and C then to keep them clear and capped.

    It's common knowledge that even if you can't clear mid, you still have teamfighting potential, so expecting your teammates to do all the fighting for you is not only hurting yourself and your own experience but also hurting your teammates as well. It doesn't mean don't boost especially if you don't have the kit to clear out minions quickly, just don't sit there all game, lookf or something to occupy your hero and their particular skill set. Anti-Backcap, teamfights/gank, and switching and opponent around could help out quite a bit as long as your teammates are rotating properly.
    All in all, before even watching the video I can already tell you that this is just a good example to follow, you don't have to and you can play the way you like, but ultimately everybody knowing the strat is gonna help out allot, especially in full random lobbies.

    Hey Freeze, you think you can drop a video on what the term, 'reactable/unreactable' actually means? Not just for me, but for everyone. I know you did reactability videos before, but a fresh and updated one (especially due to the recent Testing Grounds stuff) would be great.
    From what I've seen around the web, people seem to have completely different ideas of what it means and it's infuriating how off some of them can be. Some people seem to think that '*UN*reactable' means 'so fast you can't even move your guard fast enough', where others mean it's just fast enough that it isn't a free parry/punish every time. This mostly pertains to mix-ups that don't involve something innately unblockable, as you always have the option to block those (which is easier than parrying).
    I'm tired of misconceptions of what unreactable even means, especially the '33% chance to block because 3 directions' example a LOT of people are somehow *still* throwing around. I know this sounds convoluted but to try and provide a proper example, a lot of people still think the recent Testing Grounds changes turn the game into a complete guessing game (at *all* times) so fast you can't even block *ANYTHING* without guessing, which is a load of garbage. I'd love something to help put everyone on the same page and help stop misuse of the terminology. Again, long winded and confusing question but I hope it sort of makes sense.

Just because Im boosting all game doesn't automatically make it 3v4 for my team on the rest of the map. I usually have 1, sometimes 2, enemies who insists on taking my zone and will keep coming back to me over and over everytime they spawn. So im boosting most of the match, while still getting kills and team is fighting 3v3 or even 3v2 on the rest of the map.

    Overvaluing group fights loses more games than overvaluing boosting. If someone is just waiting to leave and back cap as soon as you join the group fight there's no point in going. Putting points on the board is more valuable than winning a group fight until you're breaking. Your team in the 3v4 just has to cover each other, stick in their minions and fight their minions off the line. If they do that, they will have the point advantage. The comp community can't seem to adapt to any strategy that isn't just outnumber and gank your opponent. It's an overvalued strategy. If you leave the boosted point you're risking an even bigger point disadvantage to now have 4 people clear the line instead of 3. If your team can't clear minions off the line in a 3v4 and give you the faster point gain while boosting, then there's not much hope of them winning a 4v4 group fight anyways. So what happens if you come off the point and lose a 4v4 anyways? You just lose the game faster.

    I boost a point after I take mid then sit and boost while my friend kills minions then go and help him when people go near mid

    Or when you see two point holding the same point while forcing me and the other teamate to do all the work while they spam emotes and get "high" kill games.

    When I played I sat on a point until a teammate called for help. Cause if I leave a point unattended then the enemy would just simply capture it. I guard the point until someone releases me of my duties or I see the whole enemy team on the minion line or the other point. To make up for my absence, I always went for the point closest to the enemies to distract until my teammates captured the other point and/or cleared the minion lane. Was my strategy bad?

    good vid, but I think thats too much for random lobby to handle. Especially when enemies still sometimes like to doomstack and win all fights, but loose the game cause of points. Also: regenerate in dom? Is that really the best 4th feat for conq?
