After getting many DM's after my last video called 'how to REALLY get a grade 9/A* in GCSE ART + EXAMPLES'. A lot of messages were about how to do artist research and annotate your artwork in general. Also thank you for all the lovely comments on that video, it means a lot :)
So today I decided to break it down and tell you easy tips to improve your annotating skills, and I give you examples of how to do this. So grab your pens and note it all down!
As some of you will just want to see how to annotate specific areas of your work I'm going to leave a break down of what i talk about so you can skip accordingly if you don't want to watch the whole video!!

Although, I do not always agree that annotating and artist analysis is worth so much % of your grade and I think it should really be based on the ARTWORK. It is a great way to improve your grade if you are struggling with the drawing etc.

Omg I just saw your video and your artist research pages are WAYY more detailed than mine. I’m in year 11 and my teacher hasn’t really taught us how to write artist research so I’ve been writing wafer thin paragraphs and now comparing yours to mine I’m panicking because we just started the external exam prep.
I'm in year 9 and in my school we start our GCSE courses earlier so I started it this year. Because of the current situations I'm a bit anxious but this video was really helpful thanks! ❤️
THANK YOU FOR THIS! I used to have quite a chill art teacher who expected good annotations and nothing too crazy. But then i suddenly got a new teacher and her annotation standards are A LOT higher so i stressed out a lot. This will definitely help with with them!
So useful. My daughter in year 10 has a rubbish teacher, she doesn't tell them what they should be doing, hasn't taught them anything and last week said 70% didn't pass last year, shocking. So thank you for helping by doing this.

This is the artist research format that the teachers give us:
**Artist Introduction**
Introduce the artist - what is their name? Where are they from? What type of Artwork do they create? What are the dates of the
work? What is their Artwork about? Is there a meaning or purpose?
**Explain**
Explain why you have chosen this artist for your research - is it the style of art? The medium they use? The subject matter? What
can you see in the images? How does the work make you feel and why? Why does this work relate to your project?
**Formal Elements**
Think about the formal elements that they use most in the work - Which elements stand out the most? How have they been used in
the work? Be descriptive.
**Analyse**
Analyse their work - what do they focus their subject on? What are they trying to portray? What does the viewer think first? Is there
a hidden message? How have they created the artwork? Why do you think they have done this?
**Influences**
What may have influenced the work? Subject matter? Objects? Artists? See if you can name other artists and explain why.
**Quotation** - Find something interesting that the artist has said.
**Opinions**
What do you think of the work? Why?
How will you use the work of this artist in your own work?
What media will you use to replicate and inspire your own work?

I love doing art and all but I hate annotation 😭 it's so annoying having to annotate EVERYTHING I do
my art teacher just told the class “make sure you waffle. the examiners love waffling, tell them why you used that colour, why you used the media, what you liked and what youd do better next time, as long as it makes sense just waffle” 👍

Thank you so much for this video! This is great help for me since I will be starting my art after the summer holiday and once I will be back at school. You have no idea how helpful this oh my god! My art teacher speaks pretty much the entire lesson but seems to say nothing at all 😭😭 i honestly had no idea how to lay out my book or how to do art studies I was so confused

My art teacher is always grilling us for not writing our essays, especially artist analyses, properly. Somehow I've managed to write them "properly", but it annoys me that he never teaches us *how* to write them.

Hi I'm currently in year 11 and I'm studying an artist who creates layered portraits using shadows and facial structure. I just wanted to know how you edited your photos to look like shepard fairey because the styles of the artworks are similar xxx
If most of my work has a meaning behind it should we talk a lot about it or only take like one or two lines because my topic is something which has a deeper meaning so I all of my pieces have a lot of writing just in the meaning part of it 😅.
I'm not doing gcse I'm doing IGCSE so the annotations would be the same

What do you think the ratio for art to Annotations should be in a sketchbook? I fear I'm writing too much - 60% art and 40% writing is what I'm doing
Corey Carter I actually think that’s about right, as long as your writing is relevant and clear I think that ratio is good!
My art teacher just doesn’t like me so he gives me lower marks... 😐
They can't actually do that plus it's probs not the teacher so don't blame them xx

I hate the anotation part am literally doing this shit right now and Tommorws my final day of igcse exam and like idk wth the heck am writing i was never told and stuf in school cuz we didn't had a teacher for two years and now i have to do two years art igcse together to submit to Cambridge shit to act as if we are sone perfect human robot for real i am not so perfect i cant do this anymore 😭 my anntation is shit and messy and am so bad at anotations i wrote ver less am bot gonna do that part anymore its shit

@@charlottec1108 actually horrible i had to take a picture of every.single.page.
Then, i had to retake all the pictures bc i didnt read my teachers instructions properly. This + waiting for all the pictures to download from camera -----> computer took *HOURS*
After that there were issues with sending (i sent a link to my teacher which expired about 7 days later aaaand she opened it too late).
I re-sent them through email which also lonnnnng. i got there in the end though im literally just happy its over😅

My teacher thought as how to blend and apple in grade 9 and left the rest to us no teaching in drawing or what so ever only an apple 🙂😐

Go onto Pinterest and find the image u like and there should be a website link. From that try and find the artist who created that piece
