wgcl g 98 was my favorite station from 1978 till 1984 when i had to leave cleveland, never went a day without listening to the station, loved DJ uncle vic - they also played american top 40 on sunday afternoons - which i kept track of constantly - this is when radio was great in cleveland. when cleveland lost wgcl 98.5 fm to wncx 98.5 - radio went dead. long live the memories of wgcl g 98.5 fm 216-578-0g98 CLEVELAND, OHIO. BRING THIS STATION BACK!

One of my best memories of WGCL was staying up late on new years eve for the top 100 songs of the year countdown.

@robbiesyohn WGCL flipped to classic rock as WNCX in Oct. 1986. 98.5 is still WNCX to this date. WQAL had a beautiful music format until 1990 when they switched to CHR. If you search "WGCL 1986" there is an aircheck from about a month before they flipped to WNCX.

First we listened to CKLW AM out of Michigan before FM was a thing, then G98 FM for a short time when FM kicked in, then 100.7 WMMS The Buzzard from day one and many years after, till I think they went off the air around the early 90's, then listened to 98.5 WNCX classic rock which was old WMMS music and Howard Stern. Then one day I couldn't listen to classic rock anymore. Around 4pm they played like 3 second clips of a song, and you had to call in and guess the name of the song. I nailed it everyday, and it drove me nuts the people who didn't know, but we didn't have a phone at the time, and I went back to WMMS and have been there ever since.

I so agree. I loved Uncle Vic. I thought he had the sexiest voice. Boy was I disappointed when I saw the guy for the first time on The ghoul show. But I also liked Dancin' Danny.

Lmao... I bet you were disappointed to say the very least when you seen Uncle Vic ! I lived in Elyria, Ohio and we would party at Uncle Vics night club and Big Dicks night club. I went to Big Dicks more.
