      it could also be that they aren't giving up their tactical advantage. three things every spec ops soldier/veteran will tell you is the secret to their success in battle, and all three were on display in that attack.
      speed, surprise, and violence of action. gen tech needs to stick with the tech and leave tactics to the pros.

      @Dillon Brunschon great question. let me answer it this way please, with a question.
      what airport or bridge seizure operation, or more to the point, rescue operation, has relied on drones and or guided missiles rather than putting boots on the ground?
      answer; NONE! why, several reasons.
      1 accuracy. if you're going rely on those then you can't be worried about civilian collateral damage or the people you are trying to rescue. a hint, a grunt with a rifle is more accurate and has the ability to shoot or not shoot. guided missiles don't. example, assignation of Osama Bin Laden.
      2 lethality. again consider collateral damage and damage/death to the ones you are trying to rescue. for example the use of guided missiles 1000 meters is considered danger close for the guys on the ground. call me silly but I don't think Mando and baby Yoda were 1000 m away from the guild members during that firefight.
      3; cost; the cost of one of those missile/drones is far more than the cost of a squad of infantry.
      4; reliability; technology is not infallible. it can and WILL fail. would really suck to fire one of or multiple missiles only to have the tracking system break down or get jammed and instead of hitting your target, it hits say idk a hospital for mentally ill children, circa Tripoli Libya 2010.
      hope that explains it. guided munitions and drones have a place on the battlefield, in the real world and in Star Wars. however in Star Wars drones didn't do all that well.
      but the bottom line is you can't win a war without putting boots on the ground. in some special missions, which is what that Mando op was, you have to use infantry/spec ops troops.
      to you and yours have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

    Hey I love your videos but your comment about jetpacks using jet fuel and oxygen not working in space is not completely correct. While there is no oxygen in space, there is nothing keeping the jetpacks from bringing their own oxygen. Most space rockets today have fuel and oxygen tanks specifically for this reason.

      @dominatorcda7180 5 лет назад +5

      @@howardman3926 I think the idea of these jet packs being powered by jetfuel is very 21st century thinking in a highly futuristic scifi. Star wars has a seemingly limitless supply of power so why someone would use a highly explosive and heavy liquid when there are most certainly other more compact, and less volatile materials that can easily exist to explain it? Plus if the jetpack is made of beskar it would be highly resistant to blaster fire.

    • @MUJUNKY
      @MUJUNKY 5 лет назад +3

      the other option, totally negating need for separate tanks, is a monopropellant. mono propellants are incredibly dangerous, being that they have a tendency to go off by themselves, and especially one energy dense enough for some of the jet pack feats in the EU. The young boba fett novels have him flying a jet pack for I think a few hours, maybe less. So if this propellant has the energy density to lift say, an 80lb object for two and a half hours at 1-200 mph, if it were to take a blaster bolt that thing could level a city block.

    9:04 some would argue that showing your absolute strength in battle is a tactic in itself to demoralize the enemy. If one single Mandalorian already gave that hard of a fight, then a large handful all of a sudden show up blasting with the best gear, your best option is probably to break contact and spare yourself.

  • @taitano12
    @taitano12 5 лет назад +19

    Two things:
    1) The Pacifist Movement shows that groups like Deathwatch and other hyperviolent Mandos do not represent the true culture of the Mandalorians. The warrior spirit was one that they used to great effect and conquered a large sector of the galaxy, but their artistic sensibilities and the very idea of Foundlings belie the true nature of The Mandalore - toughness and conquest, beauty and liberty, strength and honor, Justice and equality. Genociding entire species was just a part of war; a time when in-the-moment justice sometimes needs to be swept aside for long-term goals including righting larger injustices or reigning in the chaos of a lawless region.
    2) Gatling-gun Mando probably turned off his pack after turning back and went into freefall, turning on his pack in time to stop his fall with the last of his fuel. After all, they were now (temporarily) out in the open and among their kin, so refueling would not be a problem. The battle would have been over the instant our Mando got away, and, being all bounty hunters, pirates, and the like, the battle would have been seen as just business. That "just business" stuff would also be why they would have to start searching for a new hideout immediately, since turning them in for a bounty would be just business and in no way personal - a concept that Mandalorians understand to an almost genetic level.
    Edit: I would LOVE to see Baby Yoda become a Foundling. A Mandalorian of such intense power with The Force would be just about the only thing Papa Palpatine couldn't stop. LOL 😆

      There is a huge misconception about mando culture that gets ignored a lot: they are not individualistic. By that I mean they value "us" over "me" in regards to their actions. For them everything they do is for the prosperity and protection of their family, clan, and culture. Being a mando is all that matters and they are willing to do whatever it takes to protect their own. They fight, they improve, they get good at whatever they do. It is why they go out into the world as mercenaries. It allows them to hone their skills and get an idea of what is going on in the galaxy. And when mandalore gets threatened they return.
      This is also why they fought each other in that nasty civil war before the pacifists took over. Each side believed they were preserving their culture the right way. The pacifists showed up after the devastation because of how much they value their own people and knew how dire their situation was militarily. It ultimately didn't work out because of the vulnerability that the pacifists saw themselves and because they forgot how adamant their own people could be at protecting their culture.
      I could honestly go into a huge rant on this topic of Mando culture as they get seen as nothing more than people in space armor being badasses with blasters when they are soooooo much more. Like the Norse people all being viewed as Vikings or Celts as barbaric berserkers.

    1. Love this channel, has a lot of interesting stuff for the star wars fan.
    2. Recoil shouldn't be an issue, because lasers aren't "projectiles", they're focused energy/radiation. How many times has your lazer pointer kicked back? Again, nothing against the channel, I think the video is still great.

    • @MarioPerez-ng9it

      Technically L.A.S.E.R.s are light amplified by stimulated emission of radiation and move at lightspeed. There would be no dodging and no missing unless you are lightminutes away. These bolts move much slower than lightspeed which makes plasma the more reasonable projectile. Still, recoil would be equivalent to pressing a button.

Baze malbus also used a heavy blaster cannon paired with pack. Plus the mandoa were not looking to kill the bounty hunters. Thrawn himself says it to Ezra that he had no intention of burning the planet before the command center heist, as its people were not a threat, however since there is too much resistance he will have to do so.
      Now I can't imagine the same option was there for Mandalore. Their people are known for revenge and wouldn't be content with the Empire just leaving, so the best option for the retreating Empire was to glass the planet. Remember no one really had the resources to take on the imperial navy head on until Endor and that wasn't a fair fight either with the full rebel navy present. Mandalore was hopelessly outmatched in space without considerable help that was not present at the time.

    Jet packs can work in an emergency, but for extended usage and incorporated tactics and strategies, take clues from the most successful air forces and guerilla fighters (both of which share many similar philosophies): quick slash attacks and hit-and-fade methods to maximize damage at a point, and only use large numbers to execute as many of these as possible at one time - get in quick, one or two quick hard hits, and and get out at least as quick.

      But it depends on the blaster bolt. Because they always travel across the screen at relatively the same speed, it really depends on the scale. Because of this, I'm pretty sure the Imperial Star Destroyer blaster bolts that shoot Tantive IV in A New Hope are ridiculously fast, but the blaster bolts from hand-held blasters are very slow.
      Personally I like to think though that, in universe, they probably actually are as fast as bullets (maybe the slower, sub-sonic ones, but still). I think they just slow it down so it looks cool in the movies.

    I have two points to make.
    1. You were partially right about jetpacks using fuel and oxygen. We don't see any intakes on jetpacks, so it's pretty clear they mix solid fuel and oxidizer ( that's how rockets work by the way ) , they can work in space with no problem.
    2. In my opinion Mandalorians tactics at the end of 3rd episode were perfectly valid. Mandos utilized "violence of action", descending stright into fight they forced enemies to take cover/retreat. Bandits didn't have time to return time, when you're fired at from air first thing you want to do is to survive. If Mandos were to start this slowly the fight would be drag on way too long.

    1) Weight isn't necessarily a problem in the Star Wars galaxy; all the different planets have different gravitational field strengths at different altitudes so it's just not that simple.
    2) Those jetpacks can work in space as well, the oxygen is inside the jetpack
    3) I don't expect there to be much recoil in an energy weapon be it a gatlin or an e11. At the end of the day you're firing plasma which has the same density as gas. Don't expect a lot of recoil!
    Otherwise great video, can you dedicate an episode to asking why microjumps weren't used more often?

    They can definitely handle more than 20 ‘bursts’ as this directly contradicts what we see on the screen, unless by a ‘burst’ they mean 10 minutes of flight
    Star Wars technological prowess can fit a fusion reactor inside a gonk droid, and fuel enough to power the Death Stars within a small portion of the Death Stars themselves - so it’s doubtless easy to contain a huge amount of highly energetic fuel in the jet packs

    As a soldier, a jetpack allows for extreme mobility. This allows for rapid assaults, Fast repositioning, and extremely quick retreats. The force that maneuvers better than its enemy is sure to win in modern combat. Add in all the weapons Madalorians have, especially in their armor. And the jetpack becomes even more effective, especially when an enemy squad finds its cover negated AND coming under rocket fire from above. When used properly, the jetpack is an excellent tool. When abused and used excessively. However, it becomes a liability, especially when AA weapons are in play.

    Also considering you have pretty much near impervious armor with beskar steel, with the added mobility of the jet pack there isn't much issue of ''being exposed'', there is also the shock value you have as a Mandalorian flying in with jet pack and all guns blazing, the reason clones and then imperium had all white armor, it was to instill fear to the enemy and to signify the enemy ''we don't care if you see us or shoot at us we will kill you regardless'', though ofc to a even basically trained person the shock isn't as effective but then again, we are speaking about Mandalorians here, they have earned that fear and awe in Star Wars universe

    In my personal opinion. I think an urban environment's jet packs could be incredibly useful as a way to quickly get up to rooftops or to get off them. You got to think of it like this. Say you're with your squad and you're moving through buildings and such and you're being attacked from the top of a staircase when you go to clear building. Wouldn't it just be easier to land on the roof and attack them from behind with some guys keeping them from coming running out of the bottom. You literally turned their biggest advantage, the fact that you have to assail up the stairs to come and get them much like we seen in Fallujah and you turn it to their worst enemy. You catch them in a pinter maneuver with literally no escape and no way to fall back away from the situation. Mix that with having an easy way to get over fences, barriers, and other obstacles That could impede troops. It could allow for incredible speed and blitzkriegs using the element of surprise and speed to compensate for the downsides of a jetpack. Plus keeping at low level flight just above the buildings would still provide cover in many of situations. I think a practical jetpack that would offer short stents of flight Could be incredibly useful. But that's just my two cents on things. An open terrain and such a would still be kind of useful for navigating mountain terrains and other areas where climbing would be difficult. Especially areas that would have deep snow and other less than favorable weather conditions to travel through. Why instead of having to swim across the river you could send a vanguard over the river by flight and simply take that side of the river while bridging equipment is pulled up for heavier vehicles.

    How strong would a Standard Forerunner soldier with a Class-12 combat skin compare to a squad of Spartan 2s with MJOLNIR armor?

    • @sephirothsenpai
      @sephirothsenpai 5 лет назад

      Spartan 2s would still shred

    • @salvagedude625
      @salvagedude625 4 года назад

      My only point of reference for a Class 12 is 343 Guilty Spark's dialogue in Halo: Combat Evolved in The Library, where it states that MJOLNIR V is a Class 2. Depending on the order of magnitude of which the difference between the classes of combat skin, it could mean that the quality ranges from incredibly strong to trying-to-kill-a-Spartan-with-a-rotten-orange strong. The combat skins were designed to adapt to hostile weaponry, thus necessitating either several different weapons or taking down the target with very few shots. Taking gameplay stats from Halo 5 (because that's what i could find on Halopedia), it would take four body shots to kill a Spartan. The issue with using these stats is that they aren't lore-based, but it's what I could find. If the Spartans are armed with MA5Ds, they'd almost certainly lose. They'd need heavy weaponry of multiple varieties, preferably both plasma, conventional, and hardlight. The Spartans could win, but they'd have a tough time and would need to be specially equipped and be lucky. Blue Team, some of the best Spartan 2s out there, couldn't beat the Didact in anything resembling a straight fight. The combat skin the Didact wears allows him to pick up and seriously damage John-117's Mark VI MJOLNIR armor, meaning that the Forerunner warrior would likely be able to do very well in melee combat. Short answer, the Forerunner soldier with a Class 12 combat skin would be able to wipe the floor with the spartans due to the inability of the Spartan's weaponry to pierce the combat skin. There are only two advantages I can think of for the Spartans: the ability to use squad tactics and possibly stealth. The Forerunner would have both the offensive (more powerful weapon, armor making them much stronger, and other offensive systems) and defensive (basically the entirety of this post explains the armor) advantage.

  • @jesupcolt
    @jesupcolt 5 лет назад

    I know it's not a one to one comparison, and it's just a video game. But, I don't recall seeing a lot of players pick jet packs in Halo Reach's multiplayer. They tended to be easy to hit and leave you exposed, and there weren't a lot of sneaky vantage points on the map you could get to only using the jetpack. It tended to mostly be armor lock and sprint. Even in the Halo lore, Spartans and other UNSC forces seemed to only use jetpacks for mobility or EVA actions in space. And, Spartans probably have more protective armor than the Mandalorians.
    Jump packs might be more useful for assault troops, like in 40k. That is, if you can find a way to prevent the user from breaking their legs upon impact.

      fast rate of fire automatic weapons and "area of efect" weapons are kinda rare in SW, blasters would overheat insanely fast if fired at rapid rof ... so considering most they would face are semi automatic rifles and handguns AND considering even durasteel armor is more than enough to deflect a hit here and there having a Mando soldier zipping around from place to place in mid air is kinda problematic especially considering they are all excellent marksmen TRAINED to fire from the air using HANDGUNS ... that pack a bigger wallop than a rifle ...

    I like how you said that, nothing wrong with some historically aware space politics, it's half the reason the Gundam series is such an amazing classic, but at the same time theres something great about just seeing some mandalorians doing their thing with little concern for what the greater galactic community thinks. I feel like that's part of why we love our scoundrels and bounty hunters so much, they have their personal politics at times but at the end of the day it usually just comes down to a personal honour code and whether there getting paid.
    Nothing wrong with going full historically inspired space politics, in a universe where the main conflict at the moment is space libertarians vs space fascists it's expected. But in that context the characters who chose to stay by the sidelines for the most part tend to stand out in an interesting way.
    Ps: I REALLY want to check out the mandalorian right now but unfortunately dont have the money for yet another subscription I will use a lot less than can be justified given the cost.
