Hey! PB !!
I had one today! water coming through the ceiling in a bakery below a flat! After scratching my head. After destroying the bath panel and generally faffing about one of your older videos popped into my head!! long story short a hot tap dribbling and water tracking back into the bath tapping hole down the pipework and onto the cakes below!
Cheers PB i got a doughnut!!!
Pipe bending tutorial was spot on pb, handing over to Marcus and then slipping in the clips like a glove
Thank you mate it seems to have gone down well so I’m pleased with it
I'm not a plumber but there is something entirely satisfying about watching a couple of professionals who know what they are doing take pride in their work. I was raised in Loughborough so if my ma and pa need a plumber I can tell them where to look (well, if the price is right - we all know what Midlanders are like 🤣)
Hi Pete, I mentioned to Kevin (one of your other contributors) that there is an excellent example of the secondary hot returns by another you-tuber that uses a stupid accent sometimes, but this is also excellent.
These new vaillant combi boilers are quite good. We fitted some of the new ecotech exclusive models combined with senso net displays. Perfect for high qualitity homes. That cheaper one like in the video is good aswell. Really easy to use and good mobile app.
Great video. Liked the explanation and no waffle or constantly repeating what’s going on. Quality.
Thanks Ian glad you liked it
I am a building contractor & use a plumber who is semi retired & is a font of all plumbing knowledge......so he thinks! I love watching your videos & coming up with a suggestion or tool that you have used, the look on his face... priceless!! keep up the great content.
Cracking job, turned out really neat.
Nice installation! That piping was brilliant! 👍😃
love watching your vids PB. great to see other plumbers show a passion for what they do and are proud of it.
Mate thanks so for explaining about the secondary return
Glad you liked it
i just took out a worcester this week that had this pipe configuration. One flow from boiler & 2 returns, we spent 20mins looking for a zone valve before realising there was an extra pipe going into boiler. Internal diverter controlled the coil & CH,
I love that you don't know PB (in the best way possible) because it seems like 99% if the time you know EVERYTHING but you were both the first to admit you weren't sure. Everyone loves genuine problematic jobs like this with a great outcome 👌🏻
I definitely do not know everything, and I’m happy to admit that.
if you don’t know something, don’t be afraid to ask questions to find your answers
Mighty video's lately PB!
thanks Jonathon! and thanks for joining the channel it means a lot
Great video as always . Thanks for asking about our week . Thought only I had a shit time this week 😂 I was wrestling with a new bathroom install with old internal cast metal stack . Then head butted a shower tail before I had chance to stop end it nice slice of skin complete with hair removed 😢😂 have to laugh or would give up. Still better than being in my office dealing with all the property management 😄
That expansion vessel bracket is so nice!! Great for light commercial applications aswell
PB on a roll with the RUclips uploads lately 👌🏻🙌🏻
I’m trying mate, hopefully gonna keep it going
@@PBPlumber I know how busy I am at the moment, so hats off to you for keeping the uploads going mate - 17 years in the business and you have taught me numerous stuff since watching you! Keep it up
I do enjoy watching your video's. Absolutely spot on!
Some really interesting and useful information. Thanks for taking the time to do these videos PB
thank you mate I’m glad you enjoyed it
Lovely work there guys and great choice of boiler 👍🏻 Marcus looked proper camera shy 😂
Great effort Peter! Well done lad!!
Cheers glen mate
Great work again, I used my thoroughflush for the first time last week and was very impressed. I was toying with linking it up with the magnacleanse next time to show the customer how much it cleans.
yeah they are great aren’t they. you could just discharge it into a bucket and drop one of your magnets in the bucket
@@PBPlumber that's a good idea save messing about👍👍
Great video as per. Marcus seems a great lad. Obviously very knowledgeable like yourself. Pleasure to watch u both work.
Always excellent
love the pipe bending ,fab.
Great video PB 🙏
Maybe one of the returns should have been used as a direct dedicated return from the cylinder..? Iv always been told to bring a dedicated return from the cylinder to as close to boiler as you can..? Great vid as always mate 👍
That's what I was thinking and maybe they tee'd in to prevent it dropping the water out the bottom of the boiler, I don't know, just guessing.
Always wondered how secondary return worked, thanks for the explanation and also how that vaillant wiring centre works 👍🏽
Hi CP, the secondary return is explained and demonstrated by another you-tuber, the one that uses the stupid voices, but really good, as it easily explains the concept.
Nice video, like that control 👍
thanks Dave, yeah its nice isn’t it
Nice job gents, enjoyed seeing it through.
Nice job lads 👍
Great video as always I’m new to being self employed as a plumber and one thing I am struggling with is pricing stuff could this be a possible video for the future ? 👍🏻
Hourly rate 9/10, for quotes figure out how long it would take times that by your hourly and add an extra hour for just incase if it's a long or tricky job. Or get a day rate £250 a day for anything over 5 hours etc etc
I don’t do this job anymore, but still love to see new stuff. Things are always changing.
Top job keep them coming
thanks Neil, gonna try
Another great video Peter, keep up the great work 👍👍
Love it PB... keep them coming :)
Thank you for your efforts. Great explanation.
Merci beaucoup
Excellent vid as usual great explanation of secondary return and Vaillant controls 👍
The dream team, another great video thanks dudes 🤙🏽
Great work, really enjoy the videos 👍👌
Thanks Jonathon 🙏🏽
Hi Pete could you do a video explaining all the differences between a full gravity system, semi gravity and sealed system.
The moment we have all been waiting for!
#sundayrelease
Really nice informative video and it’s nice to see you working with someone you have great banter. Have you ever had an apprentice or maybe do a job with Allen Hart that would be something to see?
Roast beef dinner glass of 🍷 and PB 👍👍👍
Amazing video, last week I had to wire one up with 3 zone heating on combi, shame on me but I ended up call Vaillant, and still couldn't make it work took me 2 hours to figure out.. nice control but weird how the 2 port valve control.. 👍👍Good job
Had the same day on Tuesday when nothing went right took
Me till Friday to get over it good to know I’m not alone tho.
Looks like the boiler has a built in mid position valve on the return, driven by a stepper motor. Perhaps it failed some time, so an external midposition was added as a cheaper repair, and so the two returns were linked under the boiler.
That’s a great shout mate, didn’t think of that!
When I worked in a hotel it had trace heating on the hot water. Crazy amount of cable for 173 rooms but it worked well
Good job! Keep up the good work. Could you do a diagram explanation/explanation of how to plumb in a system, boiler and hot water cylinder.
Hi pete have you had to change that drain off yet I got mine for bes there alright on cold mains but had issues with them on heating just weeping 👍
What a video really appreciate your breakdown drawings, yea ive seen alot of other you tubers using pushfit, there excuse using a pump so not a continuous run so to speak
I reckon solder will be obsolete in the next 2 or 3 years crimping is just so convenient and quick. I use it on industrial sites were welding / soldering doesn't really seems to be used that much anymore. Great video PB love the content
What a nice fella ya mate Is...
yeah he’s one of the nicest most genuine guys I know
Not enough of his stature about
Good morning. As a matter of interest had the radiators been getting hot on hot water only on the old system by any chance ...That bracket for the auxiliary expansion tank was very neat ,not seen that before. Which brings me to that very expensive looking wiring control box set up , wow what happens if a component fails .Is any of it repairable or is it a new unit .What is the guarantee on it . Things like this look amazing but going forward they look very expensive if they go wrong . Perhaps somebody making a mistake with the wiring blowing a component I first came across weather compensation controls perhaps 40 years ago, cannot remember what they were called but they were in the wiring center ,they were useless used to bridge them out .But I dare say thing have moved forward . I am retired now and looking at what you guys are fitting now I feel quiet relieved . I have always said it's worth paying the extra to get good tradesmen .In the long run it can work out cheaper and save a lot of grief. As an afterthought would it have been better to remove the three port and make the system 2 times 2 port Wiring is less complicated because you do not need the extra wire from the clock and cylinder stat .I always found a two port system easier to fault find.but you may need an external by pass as well Which I think was on the original system .As another comment elsewhere The optional connection might just be alternative to a joint return into the heating to ensure the race do not hear up on hot water only .
So that boiler is one of the first versions of what Viessmann ended up doing so you didn't need a 2 port valve and didn't need to T the cylinder in as the last thing to prevent self-circulation of the heating. I have never come across one that's worked well regardless of being piped up by the book or not.
Always great videos for a newby like me. Why would you fit that expensive control unit when a normal wiring center does the same job.
Love it as always!
You seem to have some to have some good electical skills as well. Is that cause your a gas worker as well?. I am a electrician but i would love to learn some plummingin the future.
Used to fit them Edens, vbx, cbx and sbx, no issues with any of them
Top man PB 👍
Great videos being posted. With the 2 returns linked together, were the radiators heating when the hot water was on? Footprints are the the tool!
Hi PB, have you got the part no for the expansion vessel bracket? It’s a great idea.
Thanks
Pretty sure on the ariston unvented cylinders we used to fit, the secondary hot water loop used to be teed into the cold feed into the cylinder (just added this incase someone does come across it onsite) as there was no tapping on the cylinder.
Quite a few systems do it like that. Makes more sense to me to mix the hot return basically with the incoming cold mains into the cylinder. Basically pre heats the water as it enters into the cylinder (well in my opinion it does anyway haha)
Lovely job gents, I’ve yet to fit the senso comfort, I’ve got a big job where I have 3 zones, hot water and secondary circ and will be using it there!! Didn’t realise you could run the secondary pump off a senso but makes sense, set it as on off circuit. Right I’m off to fuck some hep secondaries in 😍
I love Viessmann
Fab video you's two! Sorry Pete but how was the secondary return piped in? I think I missed that part... Maybe
Great method of bending will use that from now on! Always struggled with a method I always did it by eye. Most tutorials use complicated maths.
Also the secondary return not allowed in plastic. There is a guy on RUclips who said it CAN BE RUN IN PLASTIC if its on a timer and not constantly running... is this true? As I thought it would be ok as it would only be the same as running a tap for few minutes... keep up the good work bro
Another great vid PB, pipe bending vid was awesome but how do you figure out and mark where the centre of your passover is? With the flue - where is your flushoe??? I bought mine on your recommendation and love it
I’ve still got it mate I just don’t keep it on the van and was working away with Marcus so not local to my yard
Hi buddy great vids first time I've commented been watching for a while now, just interested what the book is that you use when explaining the secondary return diagram, I want to purchase it to brush up on a few regs cheers
Before watching PB I have been playing Fallout 3 and I see Nuka Cola bottles everywhere. Probably I am going crazy....
love a bit of fallout
Just came across this video mate ! Good stuff 👍👌 what plumbing book were you referencing from ?
I normally use copper but surely if the secondary return is on a timer it’s not classed as continuous so speed fit could be used? Interesting to know👍
Oxygen barrier pipe required to stop air permeating as it will have warm flowing water which may create air locks and system corrosion . Much as a heating system would with none barrier pipe
@@Rickblues46 Was just curious mate, as it said it couldn’t be used, regardless of pipe type, cheers for reply
Good video PB ...I have a question for pb or anybody else. Is there a downside to fit an expansion vessel one size too big? Because to me it makes the vessel last longer
Does not make it last longer, but there is no downside only upsides from it.
On the flush how would you just power flush just a Firebird oil boiler which now makes a load gurgling noise when it fires up to heat the water side ?
Did u do an electrical course to wire up heating systems?
top job👍 what is the brand of the vessel and vessel bracket ?
Hi Pete, did you get a result on the fluxinator that you did did recently?
Talked him out of that drain valve 😁
Hi PB,
What was the name of the text book that you were using to explain secondary return theory? It looks a useful resource.
Really good enjoyable video.
Cheers
David
Question for you which iv always wandered on unvented cylinders that I can't find an answer to in any of the g3 books...,say an unvented cylinder of 180 litres capacity comes with an 18 litre expansion vessel and then you add a secondary return of say 100 metres in 15mm copper (extreme length i know but bare with me)...baring in mind that 1 metre of 15mm copper holds 0.14 litres of water that would equate to and extra 14 litres of water capacity to the cylinder, would that mean that your 18 litre expansion vessel was technically no longer big enough for the cylinder due to its capacity being increased,I can't find the information anywhere on tolerances for unvented cylinders and secondary returns pipe lengths limits for this or is it not an issue although when you think about it,it is
Great job PB and vid was interesting tell me did you fit a low level drain off ? As it looked missing but obviously Vidio constraints etc
yes mate we did it was low down on the return to the boiler near the cylinder
Ciao,
Hi mate
Do you know if the VR71 can be wired to control/ accept demand from dual UFH circuits? Just wondered if they accept a demand from non Vaillant controls. There’s not much online about them.
Great video, very informative as always.
Cheers
Adam
So if you was to replace an unvented cylinder do you have to add a 2 port on hot water side to a Y plan if it didn’t have it before? Seen plenty without it
Every plumber looking at that thorough flush thinking they could probably make one with a set of lever valves and hoses 🤔
yeah a few guys have. the guy who made it is a plumber he makes them in his shed after work so its nice to support him
What happened to the expensive flue jig you had a couple of years ago?
Flue shoe think it was called. Like the bucket. I use Stanley fatmax toolcase. It has a pipe cutting rim in it.
Nice video again PB and Marcus!! I was wondering if you could tell me exactly what wiring center you put up and those two controllers next to it. You said one of them picks up from the boiler and sense that to the second controller and then the second controller will send it to the vrt77? Anyway, the secondary return shouldn’t be longer off than ultra max 8h due to legionella
Did u not go with the nexgen drain off pb?
Hi how do you rate the thorough flush after using it on a few jobs thinking of getting it as an easier setup than the Norstrom powerflush I currently use
Great job as always, just a question on the thorough flush what do you fill in the benchmark I.E system cleaner used. Looks like a great bit of kit
I have done my G3 4 times. At 2 different training centres. Only recently, did I learn, not to use speed-fit . On the secondary return pipe. Why I never told this is a mystery.
Hi Kevin, I did my G3 recently to move into renewables, but the speedfit was explained really well by Steve McGreevy at SERC ( in N.Ireland), glad to know that safety is being thought of.
@@davidb2464 Hi Dave, Yes most training centres are on the ball. I now use MLCP. I would guess, the first time I sat my G3, the issues with plastic pipes, wasn't well known? Sat my last few at TC Training, Birmingham.
How long did the flush take
💯
Thanks mate and thanks for joining the channel I really appreciate it 🙏🏽
How to join that channel?
cheeky nuka cola bottles 6:47 what’s your favourite fallout?
Better than a Hollyoaks omnibus
i'm in the U.S. I like your video's, great explanations of your work. but am I to understand that you actually use copper with solder fittings for your natural gas supply to boiler. That would not be allowed here. Thank You
We sure do. Yeee haaa
What do you make of the diverter valves on vaillant?
Where is the video where you hit a LIVE RUNNING Pipe ?
Hi Paul what book is that.
