You’re probably not as disconnected as you think. There was a huge migration from mostly Norway to Scotland in what is commonly referred to as the Viking period. Most of the west and north of scotland was under the control of vikings for hundreds of years, so Scots today have a lot of Viking blood. I’m Scottish and my family name is Tunstall, which is originally Norse.

Scotland has no particular claim to pipes or drums. Drums are about 250,000 years old and pipes have a far older heritage in european countries....and ofc Cumbria and Ireland. So while scottish nationalism has wrapped itself in plaid and bagpipes it is not really novel or uniquely scottish, beyond the particular clan based cloth patterns, which are pretty uniquely scottish. Although on further consideration - what is scottish? Pictish? Norwegian? Celtic? Scotland is no less a mongrel race than English. All Scottish nationalists seem to have completely in common is a centuries old persecution complex, even after Scotland's royal family took over England!
I don't have any Scots blood that I know of, but the pipes have called to me since I was a toddler, and first heard them on a record at my Aunt Nancy's. I made her play it for me every time we went to visit. And any parade that doesn't have a pure band, IMHO, is not worthy of the name.
My ancestors came here to America from Scotland .i love the culture the musjc the history. It is in my heart and soul. I wouldn't want to be anyone else.❤
I don't have Scottish bone in my body, but i will always be grateful to the men of The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders with whom Dad was billetted early in 1944 when he was a green 22 yr old working on PLUTO, testing it across the Firth of Forth. They treated him as one of them, despite his southern English accent standing out a mile when they took him out for a night in Edinburgh. Thanks to them, I'm here to tell the story.

I live in Scotland and play the Djembe to the Pipes and it is great for pub sessions but only with jigs & reels. The Pibroch is just the piper and a slow air. They say that you have to experience "lament" to emotionally play a Pibroch. The whole UNITED KINGDOM and beyond experienced this when Pipe Major Paul Burns, the Sovereign’s Piper, performed the traditional Lament ‘Sleep, dearie, sleep’ as the congregation stood at the end of the service in London’s Westminster Abbey. (Good Pipers are not noticed but a bad one is !)

I am more spiritual, I do not believe every word I hear. Or do I believe the Bible, Koran, or Talmud as you say. These come down to some person in the history of that faith wrote down what they wished, or believed. We have to give to our God's what is his, and what is mans, be ever careful, to not follow EVIL, or fake News. Jewish ppl, are just people, with the same blood DNA as many Muslims and they have ancestors in common. It comes down to human beings putting religion aside in one way. I live in Scotland and play the Djembe to the Pipes and it is great for pub sessions but only with jigs & reels. The Pibroch is just the piper and a slow air. They say that you have to experience "lament" to emotionally play a Pibroch. The whole UNITED KINGDOM and beyond experienced this when Pipe Major Paul Burns, the Sovereign’s Piper, performed the traditional Lament ‘Sleep, dearie, sleep’ as the congregation stood at the end of the service in London’s Westminster Abbey. (Good Pipers are not noticed but a bad one is !)
