      You’re probably not as disconnected as you think. There was a huge migration from mostly Norway to Scotland in what is commonly referred to as the Viking period. Most of the west and north of scotland was under the control of vikings for hundreds of years, so Scots today have a lot of Viking blood. I’m Scottish and my family name is Tunstall, which is originally Norse.

    • @occamraiser
      @occamraiser Год назад +1

      Scotland has no particular claim to pipes or drums. Drums are about 250,000 years old and pipes have a far older heritage in european countries....and ofc Cumbria and Ireland. So while scottish nationalism has wrapped itself in plaid and bagpipes it is not really novel or uniquely scottish, beyond the particular clan based cloth patterns, which are pretty uniquely scottish. Although on further consideration - what is scottish? Pictish? Norwegian? Celtic? Scotland is no less a mongrel race than English. All Scottish nationalists seem to have completely in common is a centuries old persecution complex, even after Scotland's royal family took over England!

    • @heatherjeal
      @heatherjeal Год назад +1

      I don't have any Scots blood that I know of, but the pipes have called to me since I was a toddler, and first heard them on a record at my Aunt Nancy's. I made her play it for me every time we went to visit. And any parade that doesn't have a pure band, IMHO, is not worthy of the name.

Bless my President Trump, he can do far more right, even when they have done so much wrong. Its about time NAFTA dies a death & the Dem's go down in flames. My former party of 50+ yrs. I myself was accused for using 'UC Berkeley' in an online statement (I was born and raised in the UK, NOT California) and without any evidence was accused of lying because 'Californians don't speak of it that way.'. You and others are guessing and it means nothing. Maybe it is what you GUESS maybe it is a Native American woman talking generally and using the colloquial expression 'Indians' to be more understandable to others. Who knows?
      Why not just address the points made by this person in service to the discussion instead of avoiding what matters and playing moralizing 'gotcha' based on nothing but guesses. You sound like you're trying to do some "lefy bashing" and sway the conversation in an attempt at being a victim with a "they'd probably...".

      @Rusty Evans Gerd MAY be racist or Not but I see it more as the beauty of expressing one's culture. The 'pride' bit sounds very insecure. 'Proud boys' , 'Gay Pride!' Seriously just do your thing and have pride in your achievement and how you treat people and work. Do what you DO and let others do theirs. Simple, Peace!

Black or otherwise, we share Genetics, its is time to bury those RACIST THOUGHTS. And face it, there is no difference between us, once we do DNA, we find the real truth. Maybe once we understand cousins brother sisters. Family of a humans on earth, then there will be peace.

I am more spiritual, I do not believe every word I hear. Or do I believe the Bible, Koran, or Talmud as you say. These come down to some person in the history of that faith wrote down what they wished, or believed. We have to give to our God's what is his, and what is mans, be ever careful, to not follow EVIL, or fake News. Jewish ppl, are just people, with the same blood DNA as many Muslims and they have ancestors in common. It comes down to human beings putting religion aside in one way. What I believe may not be what you do. This should not make me want to wipe you and yours off the face of the earth .

    I live in Scotland and play the Djembe to the Pipes and it is great for pub sessions but only with jigs & reels. The Pibroch is just the piper and a slow air. They say that you have to experience "lament" to emotionally play a Pibroch. The whole UNITED KINGDOM and beyond experienced this when Pipe Major Paul Burns, the Sovereign’s Piper, performed the traditional Lament ‘Sleep, dearie, sleep’ as the congregation stood at the end of the service in London’s Westminster Abbey. (Good Pipers are not noticed but a bad one is !)
