Thank you for your effort and time in testing the lenses. The fact that you test affordable items is particularly helpful, as only very few people can afford the expensive equipment. I'm always happy to see a new video from you!
Thanks a lot for the great suggestions. Everybody was complaining that there are not lenses available for Nikon crop system but you opend a complete new world to me!
Thank you for the great overview. Very valuable and saved me from a bad purchase decision. Would love an update on this video at some point in the future (maybe Nikon releases a new DX lens in the future and then it‘s time for an updated market overview). Many greetings from Germany, Jens
Wow thank you so much for the comment Jens!! Much appreciated. Working on an updated list which will drop next month. Greetings from Greece! I was actually born and raised in Hamburg so it's always nice seeing comments from there. Much love ❤️
Please time-stamp the video if you could - both for the recommendations AND the non-recommendations. I am glad to see you made comparisons and different recommendations within lenses of the same "batch" - such as the Sigma trios and the 7artisans 0.95 trios. That's quite rare to see because most would think their performance is identical. For further lens venture, I definitely recommend trying out some Laowa offerings. None of their lens even have electronic contact for exif, but they produce a lot of unique designs unseen anywhere else with competent optics.
Will do the time stamps when I get the time, thank you for the recommendations! Love the laowa lenses. You can find great wide angle stuff there and at a good price. Definitely should've mentioned it in the video. I try to inform people about laowa in the comments. 🙏
I am Using Nikon z50 and I use Nikon 50mm 1.8s and it’s fantastic for portrait and it’s everyday lens , for landscape 16-50 and 50-250 for birds and animals .
While I have expensive full frame Z cameras, I bought a Zfc to have a very lightweight kit, where I could experiment with 3rd party and manual focus lenses. Your list is super helpful. I hope that Nikon starts generating small, light, primes, like the 24 mm f1.7 but in other focal lengths. I would love to see 15mm, 35mm DX options. My current kit: Nikkor 12-24mm PZ Nikkor 24mm f1.7 Pergear 35mm f1.4 MF Nikkor 40mm f2 Viltrox 56mm f1.7 Saving $ for the Viltrox 75mm f1.2!
Oh my god a 15mm and a 35mm would be amazing in such small sizes! You have an impressive selection of lenses for the zfc. I took have a full frame system but I use it only for work. The zfc is just way too convenient😁
I really like your content, I love it that you produce content for the nikon Z FC (even more, I love it that you really adopt it!). Your reviews are sincere, organic and well made, unlike tons of other reviews we see here that just follow the same format and have the same content. I just trust your word more because I know you actually use the camera, you talk from your experience and you actually show your work. Thank you also for the honest and adapted lens recommendation, you are so right to do it sincerely and exclude expensive-ass lenses, which are not "compatible" with the financial context of nikon Z FC users. Really great and sincere content overall, I sure am following you :)
Thank you for this video. I use the Nikkor 16-50mm and the 50-250mm lenses with my Z30, and use the FTZ II to shoot with my FX lenses (Sigma 35mm 1.4 ART, Tamron 150-600mm, and the Nikkor 50mm 1.8 G). The Z30 works fine with all of them, and I don't regret buying the Z30 because the quality of the RAW files is just amazing.
Thank you so much for this video. Could you compare the image quality between 35mm 1:1.8G and 40mm F2? I owned the 35mm 1:1.8G and if the image is still excellent on Zfc, then I just need to buy FTZ. I heard that 40mm is not too sharp and that made me confused.
I'm asking myself the same! Haven't found a direct comparison anywhere. I own the 35 and while IQ is very nice, in my experience AF is notably slower from say the Z 24mm 1.7 and does hunt occasionally.
Bro. I have those 2 old lenses (35 and Sigma) and they still amazing at ftz II adapter. But I'm saving up money to get some new lenZes. Thanks for this video! I've watched it a few times and always come back here to review and think again. Btw... Have you seen the new z50 II? Pretty cool!
Great video , thanks ! In the Ultra wide range there are 4 Z DX manual lenses that could be suggested i think : The laowa 9mm F2.8 + 10mm F4 , the Nisi 9mm f2.8 and the Meike 10mm F2 ;)
Hey Ilias, you directed me here from your other video of street shots in the snow. I have watched this really helpful video on Lenses for my Zfc and I have managed to get second hand an unused Z 40mm f2 SE, which I am chuffed with and now goes alongside my kit Z 16-50mm Lens. I really fancy adding the Viltrox 13mm f1.4 that you recommend, if I can get it second hand, as I would really like the extra wide angle for Landscapes and Architecture. My one worry is size. I sold my Nikon DSLR and Lenses and moved to the Zfc for speed and portability which makes me go outside to take photos. My photography interests are: Street, City Tourism, Landscape & Family photos. How do you feel about the Viltrox 13mm, is it too much of a lump, if one of my strong requirements is to have all 3 Lenses and the body handy in a small bag? Keep up the great work. Chris
Excellent thought process there my friend. Well the 13mm is definitely "bulky" in your camera bag. You might want to check for laowa lenses. They are manual focus but that shouldn't be a problem since you want a wide angle lens for landscape and architecture. Laowa lenses are even wider so you might like that. But in terms of image quality, nothing beats the viltrox , especially wide open or at f2.8 (important for astrophotography). If you find a good deal on the used market, I would suggest to get it. But at the end of the day it's your decision so you might find something else. Cheers my friend 🥂
Awesome content.. we are using nikon z30 right now. We want go upgrade to a new lens for talking head videos like yours. We are confused with nikon 24mm f1.7 and sigma 30 mm f 1.4. Can please guide us ??
Both are good lenses for talking heads. The sigma will create more bokeh but you will have more room with the wider 24mm. If you have the kit lens try to zoom on 24mm and on 30mm and see which focal length work's better for your room. I prefer the viltrox 23mm. At f1.4 I have nice bokeh and it's perfect for my room. But we all film in different scenarios so use your kit lens and see which focal length is the best for your room
In my opinion, the best value for money in the telephoto-zoom range for Nikon Z (although for Full-Frame) is the Tamron 70-300mm, which gives us a focal range in APSC systems, like our beloved Nikon Z fc's, of 105-450mm, however it has not any stabilization system but the price is very compelling.. You should check it out also! Greetings from Mexico! 🎉
If you expand to f-mount options, then the old AF-P 70-300 is a very competitive alternative: has VR, has a cheap DX version, and is *sharper* on the long end.
@@pseudoryx9284 yes, however is a bulky solution as the adapter is not enough "pocketable", but yes indeed, there is several valid (and cheaper) options if we consider the previous mount lenses
Hi man, thanks for your video! great and very informative!!! You have got a follower!!! I have just a question... would the nikon 24mm f1.7 be a good option for astrophoto? I kind like taking northern lights photos. I am not a master photographer, but I try my best. I have a sigma 17 - 70mm f/2.8-4 that I used on my Nikon d3200. I want to upgrade to a z50, so I want to know if the lenses option would give me decent photos as well. Would the nikon be a better option to what I already have? thanks in advance!
If possible get something wider.. You can use the 24mm but you will have to create a panorama since it's not really wide enough for this type of photography. Your best option is the viltrox 13mm 1.4 but Samyang and Rokinon make the legendary 14mm f2 (if I remember correctly) which is cheaper. I personally shoot the stars with the TTartisan 10mm f2 but that's because I haven't invested in anything astrophotography related yet.
Thank you for the information man. I have a Z30 and soon I will start vlogging and travel but I hadn't any chance to find the right Lens so far but the first one you mentioned its imo the best option. I will get the Viltrox 13mm (also because I love making astronomy pictures) and i hope I'm doing the right decision 😅
The 13mm has no stabilization, and the z30 has also no stabilization.. so be careful with these movements. I prefer vlogging with the kit lens at 16mm because it's stable enough or simply use my GoPro. For astro the viltrox 13mm is amazing 🥂
I have Nikon 35mm 1.8 and Nikon 70-300(all for Z mount lenses) in MY Z50 and they works very fine for me. The choice was dictated by the price and availability of suitable lenses. My camera is two years old now.
By the 70-300 you mean the Tamron right? Both of these are full frame lenses so if you decide to upgrade to a full frame camera you will have good glass already 💪
I always wanted to get into photography, so glad I found your channel Ilias! I just bought a Z 50 16-50mm Kit (still waiting for it to arrive). Because of your videos I added the Nikkor 50-250 and 24mm DX lenses . I also ordered the Sigma 56mm. My next purchase will probably be the Sigma 16mm but my wallet needs to recover first 😩.
You have an EXCELLENT kit right there. I'm sure you will enjoy every moment with this camera and these lenses. Btw my wallet has divorced me so I get how you feel 😂
I am considering a Z50 and got worried about there not being affordable choice in lenses out there, but you really opened my eyes. Some are still somewhat pricey, others much more achievable. That said, I'm very much in a captive market for now, here in Yucatán, Mexico, where choice will remain very limited and imports highly unattractive. One kind you did not touch upon is macro, which does have special interest for me. Are any of your recommendations also capable performers as macro lenses?
Sadly I don't do much macro work and I have not tested lenses for this specific purpose. When I want to do macro photography for jewelry (weddings for example) I just use a macro filter Infront of my lens. This basically makes my lens a macro lens without loosing much quality 😁
@@IliasKoureas is this one of these rings you put between the body and the lens that elongates the barrel, as it were? I'm not strong on the technical terms, but that's how I understand it. I understand it reduces light inlet but somehow brings the minimum focus distance far closer than normal for the lens used. In fact, if this is a recommendable workaround for at least some purposes, I may consider it, because frankly I may struggle to justify the expense for the macro purpose only, especially if there aren't lower cost options around.
@@benjaminvis nope these are macro tubes. They are popular but they neglect the quality a lot. The filter's I'm talking about go Infront of the lens. They have the same effect as a macro tube BUT they don't limit the light that is coming inside your camera and from my experience they don't reduce the sharpness as much. Also since they are filters you can easily put them on top of your lens and when you don't need them just unscrew them and continue shooting.
@@IliasKoureas that sounds even better. Do you have an example of a manufacturer? I suppose it will depend o the lens threading size if they work with the lenses you've got available.
thanks foe the video it's good to know there other lenses i can use for z50 other than, I'm reluctant to Sony a6400 or Nikon z50 because of choices of lenses. by the way when using these lenses do you still need a adapter? ty ps: Currently right now im still researching of what to buy between the two.....
Glad you liked the video mate! Sony has for sure the most lenses available BUT all the best ones like sigma trio are available for Nikon now too. You don't need an adapter, just make sure to get the Z MOUNT lenses and they will fit on your camera. If you don't care about the viewfinder I would also look at the Nikon z30 which is a good value camera as well. Fujifilm xs10 is also amazing at this price point
Hi! I really enjoyed your video here and thank you for your time to prepare that overview! As I watched it I am almost convinced to buy sigma 56 mm for my Nikon Z50. But for now I’ve got Z DX 16-50 mm, Z DX 50-250, Z DX 24mm 1.7 and Z 40mm 2.0. And 40mm 2.0 is my favorite lens so far. But I would like to love 24mm 1.7 as well - the time will show I guess 😅 I use it from time to time but it has not caught my heart yet, hah
I film all my videos on the Nikon Zfc . In this video I used the 23mm 1.4 from viltrox and I have it around 1 meter away from me , maybe a little bit more.
hi I just found your channel and love the style of your photos. Expecially the chill vibes you get from your night photography shots, capturing those lights. I have a noob question, I own a z30 and was wondering if it is okay to get a full frame lens for it or should stick with dx lenses. definitely gonna check out that Viltrox 13mm f1.4, it looks sweet!
Thanks mate I appreciate it! You can always put full frame lenses on your DX body but just remember about the crop factor. But since there are so many great apsc lenses out in the market it's hard to recommend many full frame lenses, unless you are planning on getting a full frame camera. The 13mm 1.4 for example is amazing and costs around 500$. A full frame lens like that would cost 3 times as much.

24mm vs 26mm: The 26mm is actually quite smaller than 24mm. Practically, Z Fc with 26mm fits on a coat pocket (or even on smaller bags) - 24mm doesn't. So, in terms of Focal Length it makes sense what you are saying, but in terms of practicallity, I believe I will use my 26mm more (the 24mm actually is brand new - I got it yesterady for my Nameday :)). 26mm makes Z Fc looking similar on size with Fujifilm X100 series. I am not using 26mm on FF mainly because I do not like 26mm FOV (also 26mm is quite weak at the edges), but I love the 40mm FOV on Z Fc.
@@stavros.fourfourianakis but the 26mm is also twice the price and is a 2.8😭 but yeah if you actually have pockets that fit the zfc with the 26mm then go for it. During winter the zfc fits with every lens inside my coat, but during summer it won't fit in any of my trousers. I would kill for a Ricoh GR just because of the really small size of that camera
@@IliasKoureas Sometimes you have deep pockets for cameras and trips and nothing more 😂. If Ricoh GR didn't have the infamous dust issue it would be ideal (I do own GR I with the 21mm adapter and the GR III, so currently I am using it with an adapter and a filter). Ευχαριστώ για τις ευχές!
Thank you. I make video tutorials on how to make beaded jewelry. I have a z30 and a micro lens and a kit zoom lens. I have problems with the focus when I move. I tried so many settings and nothing helps. Would you recommend the fastest one of these lenses that would be on focus even when I move?
@@IliasKoureas Hi, thank you so much. In settings I applied very fast focusing back when the object is out of focus. I also applied to follow the object for a long time even if there is an object passing in front of it (like my finger). Unfortunately it doesn't work.
Thank you for your review, it's really helpful. What do you think about Nikkor MC 50mm 2.8? I'm thinking of getting one, seems pretty universal, also macro is definitely an advantage
Since I don't do macro I don't have a clear opinion on that. As long as you get something else for your portraits I can see the 50 2.8 being useful for someone that likes macro
On an APS-C sensor 50mm it is 75mm, is not universal lens range. The universal range for APS-C is 20, 24, 26 or 28 mm or after calculating the crop factor 30, 36, 39 or 42mm.
Pretty similar sharpness but the lenses themselves are different. If you are looking for a small street photography lens then the 24mm is the answer. If you want a street photography lens but also a versatile portrait lens in one then the sigma is for you. Personally since I'm doing more street photography I would prefer the 24mm because of the smaller size and the wider focal length.
First, thanks for your really nice and informative videos. They helped me a lot to decide, that i wanna have the Nikon Z fc. Im a really beginner, and that will be my first real camera. so i wasnt shure, what is the right Lense for me. And now I know that i bought the right bundle! I found a real good deal for 850€ with the Kit Lenses 16-50mm and 50-250mm. hopefully they will be a good start for photography... so thanks for your help and see you on your next videos! ;D
It's a great deal my friend. Two really good lenses. They are not so good for night photography but for everything else they are awesome!! Welcome to the world of photography 🙏
I'm pretty much set on upgrading my old nikon D3400 DSLR to the nikon Z FC and I've read many alarming critics regarding the lack of IBIS. It doesn't bother me to a point of not wanting the camera, but I would love to hear your opinion about it. I suppose not all of these recommended lenses have VR or image stabilization, right? How do you manage this overall, even with night photography? Is the lack of lenses and camera stabilization not that big of a deal afterall?
Personally i dont care about the lack of ibis. I shoot with this camera all the time around iso 3200 and the outcome out of the sensor is great. For example most of my night street photography is with the viltrox 23mm 1.4. No ibis and no VR in the lens. I just shoot wide open , 1/60 shutter speed or so and bump up the iso. The trick in these situations is to burst and not single shot. When you burst your 2nd and 3rd image will be as shaky as your first image because you dont shake your camera by pressing the button halfway through. Of course having IBIS helps out but i wouldnt care as much about it.
Nice video, I have a question, if I’m just a casual street photographer, in your opinion it would be worth it to spend money on the Nikkor 24 1.7, can be considered as an upgrade or I’ll be just fine with my 16-50 kit lens? (Ignoring the inherent pros and cons of both lenses, only focusing in their qualities)
If you find yourself shooting in dark situations then the 24mm will for sure do wonder's for you and is definitely worth buying. It compliments the kit lens perfectly. For example when I'm traveling I use my kit lens during the day because it's so versatile and I switched to a wide prime (like the 24mm) during the night to get good quality low light images.
I don't know, the 35mm 1:1.8G is pretty fantastic on my Z50. I keep that lens on the camera most of the time. I only have two F-Mount lenses so it's not that big of a hassle with the FTZ
I am thinking of going with either 24-120 f4 lens or 18-140 DX f3.5-6.3 lens for my Z50. I am a hobbyist and don't do any professional work. I want to take good pictures during travel and photograph moving toddlers. Also want good portraits capability. I am not too concerned about the wide angle focal length. Will the lack of VR on the 24-120 be a big issue? The concern I have with 18-140 is the f6.3 aperture at the longer end. Which one would you recommend? Thanks
if you ever plan on going full frame get the 24-120. If not then i feel like that this lens is not wide enough for travel photography. Id get the 18-140mm Yes its a bit slower but its also cheaper , you get more reach and more wide perspectives. And at 140mm you can also get nice bokeh due to the compression.
Hey im considering buying my first photocamera, the Z fc. I want an allround lens for travel, hike and portrait. What Bundle you think is best 1. standard kit 16-50mm 2. 16-50mm + 50-250mm or just get the pricier 3. 18-140mm and start moving on from that? Best regards
16-50+50-250 Much more useful. With the 18-140 you are locked to a big lens all the time.. with the other two lenses you can use mostly the small 16-50mm and switch to the telephoto lens if needed.
@@IliasKoureas Sony, just for the sake of lens/accessory availability. Everyone's pushing it for the last few years, and it is an awesome ecosystem to be honest, but I'll hold of just for now.
@@denisjames24 Truth be said , there are so many lenses to chose from when you are using sony cameras , its by far the best ecosystem. I would also consider fuji cameras. They have a great lens lineup as well. If you eventually pull the trigger look for the newer sony bodies like the a6700. The older ones have terrible colors and you will lose so much time trying to correct them.
Imin Poland, so the only older gear i collect are old soviet lenses from the 80s like helios or industar as getting them here is super easy and cheap and the effects are amazing
to be fair these lenses are available everywhere because the soviet union made millions! I have 2 helions lenses myself and many other soviet union lenses. Good vintage glass but its not for everyday use.
my bro can u do a video of the zfc paired with the vintage nikkor 50mm 1.4 .. im curious to see the results.. i tried it on my d750. oof. but i bet the vintage lens paired with the zfc & zhong yi turbo 2 adapters looks amazing 😊
There are so many vintage lenses that I want to try out 😪 this Nikon 50 mil is legendary! But I think I'll start with the Helios that I have somewhere around the house laying around 😅
BEST wide lens is: Nikon AF-P DX NIKKOR 10-20mm f/4.5-5.6G VR 10mm!!! Its F mount but, work greats on my z50 (has autofocus) and its wider that any other. Also, its cheap and its not an old lens.
Its a really good option if you have an adaptor. Cheap in the used market too. Good glass But, i'll never recommend to people to spend even more on an adaptor just to use older lenses. I hate adaptors because they make my camera bigger and my workflow slower. But thats just me. Many of friends have and use the lens you recommend :)
@@IliasKoureas Thanks for your answer! In my case the FTZ adapter came with the camera when I bought it. In case you already have the adapter, this lens is a very good option, it works perfectly and gives you that extra 2mm that the ''powerzoom 12-28'' doesn't have, those 2mm are noticeable... I think Nikon urgently needs to launch a 10mm wideangle and a fish-eye for the Z (DX) system. WE NEED IT!!!! :_) Great video!
@@diegomontana1111 I use the TTArtisan 10mm f2. It's a manual focus lens but it gets the job done. There are also some laowa alternatives which are really good too! I doubt Nikon will release a 10mm soon :/
it depends. If you want a prime lens for everyday use (travel , street , events etc) then yes , the 24mm is perfect. If you want a prime lens for portraits and subject separation you should look at the sigma 56mm or the viltrox 75mm.
Thanks for your video. I'm using z50 with nikkor 50/1.8, not a bad lens but the price is ..... Anyway, I like to participate in crowded events, such as festivals or comicon. Due to the large number of people, the space for taking photos is quite limited. With the 50mm/1.8 lens that I am currently using, I can only take close-up portraits. I hope to be able to capture the entire scene (cosplay or traditional costumes), so could you please give me advice on which lens to choose ?
The 50mm is a great lens, I just don't like the price, that's why I'm not recommending it. Personally for events, parties etc I use the viltrox 23mm 1.4. It's basically a 34mm lens for full frame. So I think this or the Nikon 24mm 1.7 is good enough for these situations.
Hey, man, new sub, wanted to let you know that I own the z30. I didn't have any lenses other than the kit lens (which is great and all), but most of my lenses are e mount. Megadap makes an electronic mount adapter for e mount to z mount. Let me tell you that has opened up so many opportunities with the e mount lenses I own already, majority of them being Voigtlander. For AF lenses, the adapter follows Sony protocol, making AF and OIS functional as well (including eye AF). So that's an option, too. I definitely vouch for that adapter. Love your vids.
Thank you Luis!! Have you had any issues with the auto focus with these sony lenses on the z30? The one lens I love from the e mount is the sigma 18-50mm 2.8 which makes that adapter you are talking about really tempting 🤩
@@IliasKoureas it's called the Magadap ETZ21PRO, and while I do not own any Sigma lenses, their website states that Sigma is compatible. If you don't own any lenses (e Mount), then it may not be a fruitful purchase. However, if you have money to burn and would like to try different lenses since Z mount APSC lenses are rather scarce, then this is definitely a way to get that. Just a bit of caution as these adapters can be faulty at times, well, according to some reviews, the only issue I had is with my Tamron 20mm, it is a tight fit on the mount. My Sony 85 1.4 is superb on it though. Hope that helps. Thanks for responding.
Thanks for all the valuable insights! I would like to hear your suggestion as a fellow gear user. So, I am shooting on a z50 using the kit lenses or a vintage Helios 44-2. I mostly do night street photography and I am looking for a fast prime lens with autofocus. Do you suggest buying the Nikon 40mm f2 or the Sigma 30mm f1 .4? (although I find the last one a little wide for my taste)
Thank you brother! First and foremost , how do you like the helios on the z50? Im thinking of adapting one just for artistic projects. Secondly about your question. Since you dont really like the wide 30mm focal range i think the 40mm f2 is great option. I dont think Nikon produces anything else between 30mm-50mm for the z system. Maybe consider also checking out the sigma 56mm 1.4. Awesome lens but you already have a 50mm with the helios. If you have an f to z adaptor you can also grab the nikon 35mm G DX. These are the options that i would consider my friend around the focal length that you like.
Well, Helios certainly gives a cinematic look without even trying, so you can easily recognize photos taken with it due to its unique signature. The bad thing is that you will miss some shots along the way because of its rugged manual focus (focus peaking helps a lot). Overall, shooting with it is fun, its bokeh and colors are fantastic and it comes handy in low-light situations, so I recommend it. Ilias thank you for all your suggestions and tips, I will definitely consider these options. Keep up the good work!
Bro I am in huge confusion 😂 as I guess I told you before also I have Nikon D3200 and using the kit 18-55 for 4 years. I do photography just for hobby like taking my friends photos and photo of myself. So should I buy F mount 85 mm and continue with D3200 for more 1 or 2 years or should I invest on mirrorless like Z50. But I don't shoot much very rarely I take out my camera. Please help me brother
Try to find a used z50 in order to save my cash. And after a while you can even resell it at almost the same price you got. There's a huge difference in the sensor and lens quality from the d3200 and the z50. I was using the d3400 for many years but the Nikon zfc + the kit lens 16-50mm Z is just perfect. I've created some of my best images with this combo. And if you find yourself liking the z50 , there are many cheap third party lenses which you can buy and have fun with.
I cant decide between the viltrox 13mm and the nikon 12-28. Both seem to have their plus points.. if the nikon had a lower f-stop it would be a much easier choice
@@IliasKoureas thank you so much I really appreciate your response. One last question if I may, is the Viltrox ok to use handheld, not to heavy to carry around etc ?
No just no.. it's not a lot cheaper. Save a little bit more and get the Nikon 180-600. The Tamron doesn't even have VR as far as I remember. I love cheaper lenses but not in this case
Sorry, @@IliasKoureasonly just noticed your reply! The Tamron does have VR, but the consensus seems to be that it's inferior. 180-600 makes my mouth water for sure, but I worry that it will gather dust being so large. I occasionally shoot birds with an adapted AF-P 70-300 DX VR. This is very portable but lacks reach and is a little dark. Thanks for replying and keep up the great work!
Really like the video 🙌🏻 I have Z50 with 16-50mm kit lens. The issue i have with it is that 1. It is a dark lens and 2. Zoom range is limited. What type of 2nd lens would you recommend for a beginner like me? Prime lens or zoom lens? I really liked the Sigma 56 1.4 and Nikon 18-140mm. Btw you can pin your comment so it'll be easier for the people to checkout the list.
Pinned the comment 💪 Personally as a second lens I'll go for a fast prime like you mentioned. If you like portraits, the sigma 56mm is a perfect addition. If you like travel and street photography, something like a 24mm is better. If you want both then maybe look for a fast prime around 30-40mm.
I've been recently watching some of your videos and you've earned a new suscriber with your great content. Keep it up with the hard work 👍 I currently own a Sigma 17-50 2.8, and a Tamron 16-300 that I adapt with the FTZ besides the 16-50 kit lens and looking forward to buy the Nikkor Z 24 1.7 and maybe a portrait lens. As you said in the video, I'm really looking forward to have native Z options for the 17-50 and a decent telephoto such as 70-300 or so for motorsport and wildlife. P.S. I know there is a Tamron 70-300 out there, but it lacks any kind of stabilization and with the Nikon Z APS-C cameras lack of IBIS it may become useless on a Z50.
Exactly my thoughts! How is the older sigma 17-50 2.8 holding on with these newer mirrorless bodies? Do you have any problems? Back in the day it was my most used lens , I love that thing
@@IliasKoureas I haven't found any flaws on it yet but having to use the FTZ (first version) adapter. I took it to my recent trip to Switzerland earlier this year and the quality improvement was so great compared to the 16-300 I didn't bother to carry around the other lens. Pretty sharp and the focus worked great for me. That's why i really need to cover the telephoto range now with something at least comparable in quality terms with the 17-50. It's a pitty the Tamron 70-300 for Nikon Z doesn't have VR as it aims for the full frame cameras that already have IBIS... I'm pretty sure though that a proper Z mount lens would greatly benefit at least in terms of size and weight.
In terms of photo quality and resolution, which lens will be better out of these two? Nikkor 24mm f1.7 vs 7artisans 35mm f0.95? I am planning to buy a lens for my Nikon Z50. Confused which lens to choose. Please help.
The Nikon 10-20mm PZ is great. But laowa has many many ultra wide and standard wide lenses , so I would look towards there. Great company , great stuff. The released the 8-16mm just now and I also like the 10mm f4 pancake lens they have. Check them out and get the best one for you 😁
Hello, do you recommend nikon z40mm f2 lens (not se version) for nikon zfc about portrait, wedding, people photography ve videography? Thinking to buy this lens but undecided...
Hmmm I don't think you can do all these things with only this lens. It's a good lens but it's not wide enough for weddings (inside the church) and it's not telephoto enough to do portraits.. it also doesn't have VR so for videography you will need a gimbal. If you want to stick on a small budget I would go with the viltrox 23mm 1.4/Nikon 24mm 1.7 and sigma 56mm 1.4 or viltrox 85mm 1.8. Pick two and enjoy your weddings and portraits. Your clients will love the photos. 😁 I usually use the 23mm inside the church for 90% of the shots (I switch to the 85mm for a minute to get portraits from inside the church when nothing is happening) And later on for the portraits I just use the 85mm . But the 56mm is great as well
@@IliasKoureas I have Dji rs3 mini gimbal. So today I bought new lens Nikon 24-70 f2.8S z series lens and waiting to get this. Really excited for that.
Awsm review but pls say i want to know whether nikon z 30 with 16- 50mm kitlens video quality or z 30 with sigma 56mm f1.4 video quality is better. Especially in indoor very good lighting conditions.
Are kit lens 16 - 50 mm enough for very good video quality or do I need to buy sigma 56mm f 1.4. how much is the video quality difference between both lens. Pls say am really confused 😢😢
The 56mm is sharper and will give you more bokeh and is better for indoors because of the amount of light you can capture with the 1.4 aperture. But you have to be careful because it's not very wide. I don't know what you will be shooting indoors but personally I would prefer something around 20-30mm
As beginner, I've bought z30 with 18-140mm kit, want a lens for great prime, bokeh and wide starry sky or landscape photos, suggest me lens for that please?
@@IliasKoureas Can you suggest some? I'm looking at your video on Nikon 24mm f/1.7, out of that and 12-18mm and Viltrox 13mm, which would you buy if you had to buy only one? Please be patient with me as I have no first-hand knowledge, so just want to be on the safer side.
@@gambet0007 for starry landscape your best choice is the viltrox 13mm 1.4. Awesome lens , great for astro, vlogging, architecture , landscape etc. And for a bokeh lens I would go either for the sigma 56mm 1.4 , or the viltrox 75mm 1.2. Since you are a beginner I would suggest the sigma to save some money. The sigma is such a good lens and everyone will love your portraits and bokeh shots 💪 You might wanna buy the "bokeh" lens first because the milky way season is over and will start again next year during spring 🌱.
Because it's not my expertise 😅 I just use close up filter's when I do macro shot's, which is not often. I use them only when I take shots of ring's in weddings
Hmm that's an excellent question. This can be answered with thinking what type of photography you enjoy. If travel/landscape photography is your thing then the 18-140mm is for sure the way to go. If you like street photography you could go with the 24mm 1.7 so you can shoot during the day and during the night. If my main type of photography was portrait photography then the viltrox 75mm 1.2 would be on my camera all the time 😁 it all depends on what you enjoy to shoot
@@ALMV1987 hmm one lens for street and portraits? If we had a fast zoom available then this would be the obvious answer, something like the sigma 18-50mm 2.8 or Tamron 17-70mm 2.8 for Sony. Sadly we don't have these two excellent lenses available. In this case I would suggest the 56mm 1.4 sigma . Perfect for portraits and a good enough focal length for street photography. I don't suggest anything wider because I guess that you already have the small 16-50mm kit lens
Totally agree about the Nikon 28 f/2.8. Totally useless given the the new 24 f/1.7 DX. Super grumpy Nikon didn’t have that DX lens ready for the Z fc’s release.
Totally disagree. A few mm makes a big difference in the look of the pictures. If you don't think so, then it is contradictory for this video to then recommend 30mm primes.
@@GuillermoFerrari The 28 is a fine lens, and it focuses super close, giving you some great shooting options. If you also have a full frame Z camera, than it is the right choice. The 24 however, being a stop and a half faster, is the better choice if you are only shooting DX. I also prefer the slightly wider 35 mm equivalent view that the 24 offers.
I really dont go with your opinion on not adapting f-mount lenses. Everyone is selling them nowadays and you can get outstanding lenses in any desired focal range for very little money. Yes, they are a little bit beefier, what i personally like, but still wonderfull and affordable lenses and with the eye-af even better then they were on the dslr. i recently picked up the sigma 18-35 1.8 art for 250 euros in excelent condition. i can highly recommend that lens. Thanks for your content! Keep up the good work! Good to see someone who uses and recommends gear thats affordable for many people.I think many beginners and hobbyists like myself appreciate that.
Thats an awesome deal you got there on a true GEM. I have many friends that use adapted lenses and praise them. I always recommend people who just want to try out photography to pick a used D750 and used F mount lenses just because they are so affordable now. I just dont like using them on my nikon zfc. Cheers mate , thanks for your kind words and your recommandation 😁
Вау, на русскоязычном ютубе не нашёл примерно такие видео. Спасибо за полезное видео, у меня nikon z30). Хоть я и из России, но смотрю с удовольствием ваш канал, очень нравится ваше творчество))
Because not everyone cares about the build quality. If you are using your camera for walks in the park or anything casual why would you care about the build quality? Not everyone's priority
"I wouldnt invest in older F-mount" yeah you lost me. Z mount is dead on arrival while F-mount is famous for it's glass quality and breadth of options. Disliked. Especially when you can pick up an F-mount Tamron AF-S 17-50 constant f2.8 aperture for $150.
UPDATED 2025 VERSION HERE : ruclips.net/video/MR6gpfzAMlY/видео.html
Thank you for your effort and time in testing the lenses. The fact that you test affordable items is particularly helpful, as only very few people can afford the expensive equipment. I'm always happy to see a new video from you!
This is really heartwarming! Thank you!! 😍 Whats your current kit?
Thanks a lot for the great suggestions. Everybody was complaining that there are not lenses available for Nikon crop system but you opend a complete new world to me!
People just like to hate on Nikon. The only lens that is missing is a 17-50 2.8 and the lens lineup is complete ✅
Love this buyer's guide. I just recently purchased the Z30 and got the NIKON 24MM 1.7 with the camera. Saving this video for future reference.
That's an awesome camera!! I might get one as well just as a back up for weddings etc 😁 love the 24mm
Solid lens selection my friend 🥂
While I have expensive full frame Z cameras, I bought a Zfc to have a very lightweight kit, where I could experiment with 3rd party and manual focus lenses. Your list is super helpful. I hope that Nikon starts generating small, light, primes, like the 24 mm f1.7 but in other focal lengths. I would love to see 15mm, 35mm DX options.
My current kit:
Nikkor 12-24mm PZ
Nikkor 24mm f1.7
Pergear 35mm f1.4 MF
Nikkor 40mm f2
Viltrox 56mm f1.7
Saving $ for the Viltrox 75mm f1.2!
Damn thank you so much!! This made my day !! :)
That's awesome!! I always tell people to get the z30. A small beast perfect for everyone
Thanks for this - I am about to buy a Z30 so these reviews are great - top man!
That's awesome mate , enjoy your new camera!! The z30 is great. I was thinking on getting one too
I've own z30 and I'm regretting
Great information. Thank you for the time and work it took to review these! 😀
Thanks mate 🙏
Thank you so much for this video. Could you compare the image quality between 35mm 1:1.8G and 40mm F2? I owned the 35mm 1:1.8G and if the image is still excellent on Zfc, then I just need to buy FTZ. I heard that 40mm is not too sharp and that made me confused.
I'm asking myself the same! Haven't found a direct comparison anywhere. I own the 35 and while IQ is very nice, in my experience AF is notably slower from say the Z 24mm 1.7 and does hunt occasionally.
Thanks a lot for your excellent advice.
Will release an updated list in a few days ☺️
The 35mm and the sigma will be always legendary
Not a fan of the new z50ii. I wouldn't go for it. Hoping for a better apsc soon
@@IliasKoureas me too! Nikon need a respectable D500 replacement
Great video , thanks ! In the Ultra wide range there are 4 Z DX manual lenses that could be suggested i think : The laowa 9mm F2.8 + 10mm F4 , the Nisi 9mm f2.8 and the Meike 10mm F2 ;)
Thank you for the recommendations, will check these bad boys out as soon as i can 😁
Hey Ilias, you directed me here from your other video of street shots in the snow.
Very informative ... my first time in your channel ... now I'm looking forward to watch your other videos ... 🎉🎉🎉
Thank you mate! I appreciate you taking your time to comment. Cheers !!
I'll try to get my hands on it , if someone also has a Nikon full frame then the Tamron is a no brainer!! 🤩
Great video. I'm about to buy the tamron 150-500mm for use on my zfc.
For wildlife? Amazing
Really appreciate your effort. Great video. Do make more videos like this

@@IliasKoureas more about best value for money lenses
@@benjaminvis Hoya and JJC make nice ones. Search on Amazon for close up filter's and make sure to get a set of these.
Thank you so much for this!!
thanks foe the video it's good to know there other lenses i can use for z50 other than, I'm reluctant to Sony a6400 or Nikon z50 because of choices of lenses.
by the way when using these lenses do you still need a adapter?
ty
ps:
Currently right now im still researching of what to buy between the two.....
Fujifilm xs10 is also amazing at this price point
youre absolutely great man ❤️🔥
Appreciate it bro ❤️
I'm waiting for the 40mm f2 as well! It's coming in a few days in my mail 😍
Tamron recently released a 28-75mm f2.8 for z mount system. Looks really promising
Will make an updated list soon
Hi Ilias,
Thank you for your recommendations! I am wondering while you were shooting this video using Nikon ZFC? How far was is the camera from you.
This video is already a year old so the Viltrox 20 mm f2.8 didn't exist yet. But this is one that is on my want list!
Will make an updated version soon!!

Viltrox 13mm 1.4 (Superb image/build quality)
Sigma 16mm 1.4 (Great image/build quality)
Viltrox 23mm 1.4 (Only if you can find it around 250$)
Nikon 24mm 1.7 DX (Small , sharp , nikon native lens)
TTArtisan 27mm 2.8 (cheap, AF, small/light , acceptable image quality)

1. Nikon 28mm 2.8 (the 24mm DX exists) (Unless you have a FF camera)
2. Nikon 26mm 2.8 (again the 24mm DX exists) (Unless you have a FF camera)
3. Wide 7artisans/ttartisans MF lenses (terrible image quality, a hot mess) (except the fisheye)
4. Voigtlander 23mm 1.2 (Perfect build quality, beautiful rendering but really soft at f 1.2, really expensive for a manual focus lens) (only for the purists)
"NORMAL" PRIMES :
1. Sigma 30mm 1.4 (overall good lens especially for the price, the worst out of the sigma trio)
2. Nikon 40mm F2 (Sharp , nikon native , great price)
3. Sigma 56mm 1.4 (Excellent image quality , great price against its competitors)
4. 7Artisans 35mm 0.95 (great price fot that aperture, good image quality, has charachter , MF)
5. TTArtisan 50mm 1.2 (Under 100$, good image quality even at f1.2 , great build quality , MF)
I DONT RECOMMEND :
1. Nikon 50mm 1.8 (The sigma 56mm 1.4 is better) (Unless u have other FF camera)
2. Viltrox 56mm 1.4 (The sigma is better)
3. Viltrox 33mm 1.4 (The sigma 30mm is better)
4. 7Artisan 25mm and 50mm 0.95 (Garbage , unusable at 0.95)
5. Voigtlander 35mm 1.2 ( Amazing build/image quality but way to expensive for a MF lens) (again only for the purists)
SEMI TELEPHOTO/PORTRAIT PRIMES:
1. Viltrox 75mm 1.2 (GOAT, best portrait lens for crop mirrorless cameras, slow AF at f1.2 but razor sharp)
I DONT RECOMMEND :
1. Viltrox 85mm 1.8 (The 75mm is just better) (I'll sell my 85mm and upgrade to the 75mm)
2. Nikon 85mm 1.8 (Same reasons as above) (Unless you have other FF camera)
ZOOM LENSES :
I recommend basically all nikon zoom lenses. Amazing glass , you cannot go wrong with it
1. Nikon 12-28mm PZ
2. Nikon 16-50mm kit
3. Nikon 18-140mm
4 Nikon 50-250mm (get it with a bundle or used)
24mm vs 26mm:
The 26mm is actually quite smaller than 24mm.
@@stavros.fourfourianakis Χρόνια πολλά παρεπιπτόντως, να χαίρεσαι το όνομα σου !! ❤️
Ricog has dust issues? why is no reviewer mentioning that?
Thank you. I make video tutorials on how to make beaded jewelry. I have a z30 and a micro lens and a kit zoom lens. I have problems with the focus when I move. I tried so many settings and nothing helps. Would you recommend the fastest one of these lenses that would be on focus even when I move?
Hey, I will take a look at your channel and give you my suggestions.
What focus settings do you use?
@@IliasKoureas Hi, thank you so much. In settings I applied very fast focusing back when the object is out of focus. I also applied to follow the object for a long time even if there is an object passing in front of it (like my finger). Unfortunately it doesn't work.

@@IliasKoureas OK, I will
Excellent video 😊!
Glad you liked it!!
Great list Ilias, thank you!
Thank you mate, let me know if you have any questions 😁
Do you prefer the Nikon 24mm 1.7 or Sigma 30mm 1.4, and which is sharper? Great video
Very informative. Thank you very much.for this video.
Thanks Tony let me know if you have any questions 🙏
Thanks for the thorough video. I have a Zfc with the nikon 18-140 only but I'm very tempted by the new 24mm 1.7 for night photography
I think the 24mm would compliment your kit greatly for these night photoshoots
Now we also have VILTROX 27mm F1.2 PRO, do you recommend it? Thanks!
Yes it's probably the best 20-30mm lens
I don't know, the 35mm 1:1.8G is pretty fantastic on my Z50. I keep that lens on the camera most of the time. I only have two F-Mount lenses so it's not that big of a hassle with the FTZ
It's just a matter of preference. I love the 35 DX so that's why I recommend it in the beginning of the video.
Thank you so much, man, this was a great list of options, really appreciate it! :)
I'm happy that you found value man 😁💪
I am thinking of going with either 24-120 f4 lens or 18-140 DX f3.5-6.3 lens for my Z50.
@@IliasKoureas Thanks! Great video btw, only sticking to the budget options for this set up!
@@tnrranadive as you should! We don't need to spend thousands to capture our memories 😁
16-50+50-250
Much more useful. With the 18-140 you are locked to a big lens all the time.. with the other two lenses you can use mostly the small 16-50mm and switch to the telephoto lens if needed.
I like your logic and common sense used to make this great video.
Thank you mate!
@@IliasKoureas i own a Z50, was considering changing the camera / system for a long time. I think I'm gonna give it another try with the sigma lenses.
@@denisjames24 What system were you thinking to switch to?
WHEN THE REVIEW ABOUT THE NIKKOR Z DX 12-28mm f/3.5-5.6 ??

There are so many vintage lenses that I want to try out 😪 this Nikon 50 mil is legendary! But I think I'll start with the Helios that I have somewhere around the house laying around 😅
BEST wide lens is: Nikon AF-P DX NIKKOR 10-20mm f/4.5-5.6G VR
10mm!!! Its F mount but, work greats on my z50 (has autofocus) and its wider that any other.
Also, its cheap and its not an old lens.
Its a really good option if you have an adaptor. Cheap in the used market too. Good glass
But, i'll never recommend to people to spend even more on an adaptor just to use older lenses.

@@diegomontana1111 I use the TTArtisan 10mm f2. It's a manual focus lens but it gets the job done. There are also some laowa alternatives which are really good too!

I have the z50 w the 16-50 and 50-250. Also have the 7artisans 7.5mm 2.8 II. What should my next lens be? The Nikon 24 1.7?
Thank you for sharing your experience I really curious about to Nikon dx 12-28 vr Lens. Image quality.
Christopher fox has an amazing review on that lens. It's worth it if you like these focal lengths.
@@IliasKoureas and I have not had any issues with auto focus, only on my 16mm Sony pancake lens, I'm assuming because it's old (Sony NEX line old).

Hello! What lens would you recommend for portrait photography? I have Nikon z50 😊
Sigma 56mm 1.4 is the sweetspot 💪

No just no.. it's not a lot cheaper. Save a little bit more and get the Nikon 180-600. The Tamron doesn't even have VR as far as I remember. I love cheaper lenses but not in this case
Sorry, @@IliasKoureasonly just noticed your reply! Personally as a second lens I'll go for a fast prime like you mentioned. If you like portraits, the sigma 56mm is a perfect addition. If you like travel and street photography, something like a 24mm is better. If you want both then maybe look for a fast prime around 30-40mm.
I've been recently watching some of your videos and you've earned a new suscriber with your great content. Keep it up with the hard work 👍
I currently own a Sigma 17-50 2.8, and a Tamron 16-300 that I adapt with the FTZ besides the 16-50 kit lens and looking forward to buy the Nikkor Z 24 1.7 and maybe a portrait lens.

I usually use the 23mm inside the church for 90% of the shots (I switch to the 85mm for a minute to get portraits from inside the church when nothing is happening)

The 56mm is sharper and will give you more bokeh and is better for indoors because of the amount of light you can capture with the 1.4 aperture. But you have to be careful because it's not very wide.
Viltrox 13mm
Totally agree about the Nikon 28 f/2.8. Totally useless given the the new 24 f/1.7 DX. Super grumpy Nikon didn’t have that DX lens ready for the Z fc’s release.
True 😂 we also need an SE version for the 24mm !!
oh no! I just bought 28mm f2.8 se, I didn't know about this DX f1.7. I paid 146usd. Is it still a good buy?
Totally disagree. A few mm makes a big difference in the look of the pictures. If you don't think so, then it is contradictory for this video to then recommend 30mm primes.
@@GuillermoFerrari The 28 is a fine lens, and it focuses super close, giving you some great shooting options. If you also have a full frame Z camera, than it is the right choice. The 24 however, being a stop and a half faster, is the better choice if you are only shooting DX. I also prefer the slightly wider 35 mm equivalent view that the 24 offers.

Lol true, I need to make time stamps for people !!
Cheers mate , thanks for your kind words and your recommandation 😁
i dont think sigma 56 mm is sharper than 50 mm 1.8
It is and its and it even creates more bokeh.
Вау, на русскоязычном ютубе не нашёл примерно такие видео. Спасибо за полезное видео, у меня nikon z30). Хоть я и из России, но смотрю с удовольствием ваш канал, очень нравится ваше творчество))
Wow thank you my friend!! Much love from Greece my Russian brother 💪
@@IliasKoureas ❤
You talk about like sigma or viltrox will be Nikon and Nikon will be sigma 🤷🏻♂️
I've no idea what you mean brother 😅
Why does everyone care so much about lenses being made out of plastic?
Because not everyone cares about the build quality. If you are using your camera for walks in the park or anything casual why would you care about the build quality? Not everyone's priority
"I wouldnt invest in older F-mount" yeah you lost me. Z mount is dead on arrival while F-mount is famous for it's glass quality and breadth of options. Disliked.
Especially when you can pick up an F-mount Tamron AF-S 17-50 constant f2.8 aperture for $150.
Lol ok 🤣
I literally suggested the sigma 17-50 2.8 which btw is far better than the Tamron but yeah 😂
You talk much to fast and and un-clear. Occasonally it's o.k.
Sorry mate , english is not my first language
I'm not english native and I undestood everything.
